Sintra

Gémeas Composed by several structures built throughout different periods of time, it is one of the most important Portuguese examples of the royal architecture justifying its place on the world map.

It is dominated by two large geminated chimneys, measuring 33 meters, that coronate the kitchen and are considered Sintra's "ex-libris".

Gémeas - The Twins - are inspired by the iconic chimneys of Sintra’s National Palace.

Sintra

Pena Fixed on massive rocks, it’s a mixture of different styles – Moorish, Gothic and Manueline.

Erected in 1839 by King Consort Dom Fernando II of Saxe Coburg-Gotha, on the top of the ruins of the Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Pena, and surrounded by walls and a drawbridge, is made of by the ancient Monastery with the “Torre do Relógio” (Clock Tower), the Patio of Arcos and the palace area with its huge cylindrical bastion.

Inspired by the beautiful palaces of the Bavaria and magnificently located, it leads us to fantastic stories and fairy tails.

The architectural lines and the most striking colors of National Palace of Pena were the mold base for this coffee service design.

The ocher yellow is the predominant color in the palatial structure, while the highest and most visually striking element is the Clock Tower on its rosy red tone. The surrounding walls and the towers cutouts show the grey tone of the rocks that support the entire Palace.

Therefore, those same colors were transposed to a set where there is a harmony in the lines of all the pieces that, combined with a simple and elegant dash, promotes the union between the classic and the contemporary.

Functionality: Coffee Service composed by a coffee pot, cups and their saucers, sugar bowl and a cake plate, both with cover.

Materials: Colored pottery with the original tones of the Pena National Palace, with shining glassy finishing.

On the cake plate there is an application that symbolizes the outline of Sintra Mountain, known by Moon Mountain.

Sintra

Serra Unesco’s classification as Cultural Landscape and World Heritage Site makes justice to the beautiful and involving Sintra Mountains.

An extension of Serra da Estrela mountain range that ends at Cabo da Roca, it is leaning against the Atlantic Ocean which naturally forms a condensation barrier that offers special climatic conditions and allows the development of a unique vegetation and highly rich fauna.

Also known as Moon Mountain, Serra de Sintra is visited by nature lovers and mountain climbers for its cliffs on the west side. With about 10 km from East to West and roughly 5km wide, has the highest altitude of 529m, in Cruz Alta.

The Mountain, filled of heritage built over several centuries, witness of countless stories that together embodies the individuality of Sintra.

This piece of pottery, designed with simple and pure lines, shows one of the cutouts that Serra de Sintra offers on the horizon - in this case the North side, where we can see the silhouette of the Pena Palace and the hillside of the Moorish Castle walls.

Alma According to UNESCO’s report¹ for the classification as Cultural Landscape and World Heritage Site in 1995,”the cultural landscape of Sintra, with its serra, is an extraordinary and unique complex of parks, gardens, palaces, country houses, monasteries and castles that creates a popular and cultured architecture that harmonizes with the exotic and overgrown vegetation, creating microlandscapes of exotic and luxuriant beauty.”

Sintra, in the oldest known denomination of “Suntria”, which altitud points to the “king star” or “sun”, have been named by Varro and Columella as Sacred Hill (Monte Sagrado). Ptolemy registered it as the “Moon Moutain” and the Arab geographer Al-Bacr in the tenth century described Sintra as «permanently immersed in a mist that does not dissipate».

In the second half of the nineteenth century, famous writers have immortalized Sintra at a time that it acquired the status of bourgeois village, essentially dedicated to the rest and pleasures of the elites of that age.

Considering simultaneously the natural richness and the patrimony built in the village and the mountain, the perimeter of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra is full of charm and soul, where its unique natural wealth is divided between architectonical testimonies created by human hand and the wonders of Mother Nature.
