Correcting Broken Links
The ultimate goal of the Link Checker report is to assist you in correcting any broken links it may find on your website. To correct a broken link found by the Link Checker: 1. Open your job as described in Viewing a Finished Job, above. 2. In the Reports pane at the left of the Link Checker Interface click the Broken Links entry in the Filters list and your results on the left will narrow to show you only those links that are not operating correctly. 3. Each link in the table to the right of the Filters column will have 4 pieces of information:
Status Code
This tells you the type of error Link Checker encountered when attempting to follow the link. For a full list of Status Codes see Understanding Status Codes, below.
URL
This is the URL which generated the error. To repair the issue you will have to locate this link on your page and correct it. The link text is not provided by the report so locating the correct URL can take quite a bit of searching.
From URL
The From URL is the page the error is located on. Clicking this link will open the page containing the error, a convenient way to find and correct it.
i:Create Page
This check box will inform you if the error occurred on an i:Create page. If this box is not checked the error may have occurred with a site resource (an image could be missing, for instance) or a missing external page. i:Create page errors are generally much easier to fix.
4. Click the link under the From URL column and your browser will open the page containing the error in a new browser window. 5. Activate the editor by pushing CTRL twice. You may be prompted to log in. You may not have access to the files necessary to correct some errors. Files with .js or .css extensions cannot be edited using the i:Create tools. For help with these broken links contact eSolutions support.
6. Locate the link that created the error and correct the problem. It may help to examine the URL column of the Link Checker report, as this will tell you the destination of the malfunctioning link. Most browsers will provide this information in the status bar near the bottom of the screen when you mouse over the link, so opening each link in the Insert/Edit Link dialogue should not be necessary. For detailed information on editing links see the Links chapter of the i:Create manual. 7. Repeat this process until all errors have been corrected. 8. Re-run the Crawling Job if necessary to confirm that the errors have been corrected.
