Dear friends, In 1989, a small group of students who were part of the first generation of Erasmus mobilities met in Ghent to share their experiences and discuss how the newly created Erasmus programme could be improved. They all agreed on one key principle: the best way to continuously improve this promising new exchange programme was to ensure that the voice of students was always heard, and to make them full protagonists of the Erasmus experience. They also decided that besides the feedback and proposals for those managing the programme at the different levels, students were in a unique position to help each other and create a community of diverse yet like minded young people from all walks of life. That was the beginning of the idea of the Erasmus Generation, and indeed, also the beginning of the Erasmus Student Network. Thirty three years down the line, our motto of students helping students continues to capture the work of 15.000 volunteers across 41 countries, and our mission of the enrichment of society through international students inspires our initiatives at the local, national and international level. The Erasmus Generation Meeting has begun with the idea of being the most important student-led event related to learning mobility and student exchange all over the world. It is a place to come together as a Network, to learn from others and to come up with new ideas to do what we love. It is also a space to experience the diversity of the Erasmus Generation: a generation of shared values, a firm belief in the capacity of education and intercultural dialogue
to bring people together. It is also a space to have fun while meeting friends from all over the world, discovering everything that bonds us together and experiencing what being part of the same community really means. The first edition of our flagship initiative couldn't come at a more significant time: As we celebrate 35 years of Erasmus and the European Year of Youth, we want this event to be a key milestone in achieving a more empowered European youth through learning mobility. Your active participation and willingness to learn from and with others is the best way to achieve this impact. The programme shows the creativity, resolve and commitment of the Erasmus Generation to improve learning mobility programmes around the world and to foster youth engagement and skills development in the process. A wide range of session formats covering diverse topics closely interlinked with the mobility experience and the role of student and youth organisations will allow you to get new ideas that can help you to make a difference in your local section and local community. We look forward to seeing you at the very first Erasmus Generation Meeting. Let's work to enrich society through international students together. Juan Rayón González President of the Erasmus Student Network

We will have more than 800 participants, two Fairs, and more than 60 sessions happening during EGM - we understand that this may get too much at one point for some people. If you ever feel overwhelmed and like you need to distance yourself from everything, come to the quiet room. In the quiet room, there is no talking, no phones, no laptops - in other words, no distractions.
Have some emails to send? An international student back home is experiencing some issues and you need to assist them? You couldn’t wait to meet the members of your Buddy Section in person so you can plan new, exciting activities? You had a really good discussion you didn’t manage to finish during the session? Come to the collaborative room and work, work, work!

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our modern days. Its impact can already be felt all around the globe and its effects will continue to worsen over the next decades if the climate crisis is not addressed correctly. It is not too late to act, and we all have a role to play in saving our planet. Some have already taken up measures that impacted their lifestyles. Some are thinking about it. And some might not be convinced by their efficacy. In this Erasmus Generation Talk, you are going to get a better grasp of the current climate situation and the role and impact of individual actions in the fight against climate change.

The Erasmus+ programme is probably the most successful programme of the European Union or, at least, the best-known one. It condenses all the European values in a single programme. But, can we understand Erasmus+ without Europe? Is it possible to dissociate Erasmus and the EU? In this talk, we will see how the programme is the perfect mechanism to create European citizens and how we, the Erasmus Generation, can leave our mark in the European sphere.

It is unfortunately still the case that going on study exchange is often associated with slower study progress due to no full accreditation of courses or the inexistence of adequate subjects. This is shocking considering that the Lisbon Recognition Convention regulating course and period accreditations has been signed by 53 countries. In this talk I 12

will argue that mobility programs for faculty members can sway this conundrum. By experiencing exchange themselve, they become more open to student exchange programs. Therefore, they will join student representatives in redesigning curricula to allow for student exchanges without losses of time or other resources.

Collaboration between local sections, both at the national level and international level, through intersection events, knowledge sharing, and participating in each other's events has shown to have great benefits. Collaborating sections are more sustainable during transitions and organise more events than isolated ones. How can the contact between sections be established in an efficient and durable way, and how can barriers such as distance, different realities, budgets and size of sections be overcome to create long lasting relationships and great events? This campfire session aims to create an open space for brainstorming about challenges, and how to overcome them to create opportunities, based on what is already being done and what is still lacking.

ESN is the largest organisation supporting mobile learners around Europe, but there is still so much we can do to improve our work related to mobility promotion. This kind of peer to peer promotion is especially important to reach out to students who are less likely to participate in mobility, such as students with fewer opportunities. From collaboration with local schools to reverse buddy programmes, there are infinite best practices that our local sections can implement to become masters of mobility promotion in their local context. In this session, we will discuss current practices and explore ambitious ideas to upscale our mobility promotion game.

The new Erasmus+ Programme envisages a top-up for the green travels but it is not sufficient to cover the costs and therefore it does not incentivise the use of more sustainable means of transportation. The Green Erasmus project consortium is drafting a petition to ask European Institutions to amend the financial mechanisms used to encourage green travel. More than 70.000 students take part in Erasmus internships every year. These internships are a great opportunity to gain work experiences while enjoying all the benefits of an international experience. However, Erasmus interns face many added challenges, and we in ESN sometimes struggle to reach out to them. With the new European Strategy for Universities, internships are gonna become even more important: how can we make internships better? What changes are needed? What can be the role of ESN?

The Erasmus Student Network was born as an organisation of Erasmus alumni but, since that date, we have evolved to become the representatives of the Erasmus Generation, pushing towards increasing internationalisation in every aspect of our education. However, do we really act on those terms? How can we make young people feel the 19

ESN believes that international students enrich society through student mobility. However, student's don't always engage as much as they can with local communities - in order to ensure the international mobility of an individual has an impact on both the local community and the international student, quality interaction that stimulates intercultural dialogue and self reflection are needed.

Green (Erasmus) is More Than a Colour by Paola Di Marzo (ESN International) The Erasmus+ Programme is the most extensive mobility scheme in the world. Once Upon A Wiki by Božo Tadić and Theodoros Markou Many people don’t acknowledge this, but ESN Wiki is not just a relic of the past, but rather an oasis full of solutions, tools, guidelines, and documents (and many many more)! It should be treated as the main platform the average ESNer uses daily, the completed archive place for our Network, as it was imagined and still can become! During our events, we always talk about good practices exchange, a process that we should stop only talking about, but also take action, since we already have a place for it.
Have Your Say in the EU Youth Dialogue Process by Iva Ljubičić (Liaison Office) The EU Youth Dialogue (EUYD) is the European participatory process which, through cycles of 18 months over a priority topic, supports the implementation of the EU Youth Strategy and ensures the involvement of young people in the decision-making process in the field of youth in Europe through a dialogue between young people and decision-makers. Therefore, it is a key process, on the European level, that enables us to make different policies youth-friendly. The thematic framework of the 9th cycle of the EU Youth Dialogue is Youth Goal #10 Sustainable Green Europe and Youth Goal #3 Inclusive Societies under the title “Engaging together for a sustainable and inclusive Europe”. ESN has been participating in the EUYD for a few cycles now as a part of the INGYOs under European Youth Forum's coordination. In order to make sure we can successfully advocate for our causes and goals, it is of high importance that participants understand the process, its vitality and the connection it has with their volunteering experiences. Besides the process itself, it is essential to hear the input EGM participants have on the youth goals 3 and 10 which are currently discussed. That would make representing ESN at EUYD smoother and would lead to better outcomes for our Network, volunteers and mobility in general. Hence, the aim of this poster session is to familiarise participants with the EU Youth Dialogue, specifically the current 9th cycle and hear their opinions on the topic 'Engaging together for sustainable and inclusive Europe.

European and international security concerns, Climate change and COVID-19 represent significant challenges to the European Union, its Member States and citizens. To tackle them, we as the future of Europe need to commit to a common state. This way, we can become a greater global force to be reckoned with – economically, politically, militarily, and culturally. The United States of Europe is by no means an easy task, but a long-term project with great prospects: cutting costs to national governments will allow us the opportunity to invest in health policy and climate change. Furthermore, the United States of Europe will unify people from all backgrounds, and strengthen European identity by bridging internal gaps through mobility and intercultural experience, which will make the United States of Europe a strong, resilient player. This gives us the ability to speak with a common voice and enables us to promote European values and peace in an international arena.

In this session we would like to focus the attention of participants on how volunteering can be a real chance for personal development and a booster for employability. We will share ESN Italy experience with the aim of raising awareness on the topic, inspiring volunteers from other NOs and getting new inputs on the topic: there is always room for improvement! In particular we will talk about ESN Italy initiative ESN & Employability which was carried out by the Project Manager and the Skills and Employability task force. Its focus was on transversal skills and experience we can acquire in ESN and can be spent on the job market such as team building, leadership, organisational management, communication and long-term planning.

Although our continent is at the avant-garde of this topic, some programmes are popping up around the world. What should be the role of ESN in promoting the implementation of these initiatives? Can Erasmus+ be replicated in Asia or South America? In this session, we will tackle this topic and discuss the importance of worldwide international mobility.

Our network’s identity mainly lies in Erasmus, a Euro-centric mobility programme. Probably a good 90% of our volunteers are Europeans. All our events are in the EU and its neighbourhood. Our Google calendar invitations are in CET. Our working language is solely English. None of this will persist if we want to become truly global. If we want to claim unity in diversity, we need to face the fact that we haven’t dealt with true diversity yet. Let’s start with a thought experiment: what would a Global Erasmus Generation Meeting need to look like?

High quality educational standards and a fulfilling student culture - sounds exactly like exchange in Finland! However, integration into the happiest country in the world might be harder than you expect. Finland may seem to be cold and icy and not just because of the weather. The introverted mentality, small language and obscured social life can become obstacles between you and an unforgettable student experience in the country. How can we break the ice and help exchange students to get to know locals better? How can we diversify local boards and attract Finnish students to ESN activities? Let’s discuss and share our international experiences!

The Erasmus Generation living in Germany is characterised by a vast amount of nationalities and backgrounds. Local sections are run simultaneously by internationals as well as natives - mostly with exchange experiences - resulting in an inclusive member structure of ESN Germany. One reason might be the universal use of English and our recruitment strategy. In this session, we present facts and experiences with internationals in local sections and are looking for a fruitful exchange of knowledge about multinational events and teams. 48

Since its first edition in 2015, ESN Spain has been organising almost uninterruptedly its Erasmus in Schools Camp. This initiative brings together children from different backgrounds with international students that are currently in Spain and volunteers of ESN. During a weekend, different activities are organised to highlight the importance of intercultural dialogue and to show how each of us, although coming from different cultural backgrounds, have much more in common than we usually think. The initiative has also been evolving and each edition brings a different perspective, with this one focused on the rural area. Do you want to know how it is organised? In this talk many tips will be given so you could replicate the initiative in your country.

The last student charter was written 10 years ago, and since then, the new Erasmus Programme has been launched, ESN is looking towards a global expansion to be the global network of the Erasmus Generation by 2025, and hybrid learning has become the norm. Let's give the charter a fresh new look as we have to our own network and erasmus programme, and guide our universities to what the students believe are most important. Is it possible to carry out impactful activities? Can we develop SMART projects within ESN? As ESN Italy, we’d like to propose a session that we already organised at national level and is considered to be a best practice, in order to share our experience, and foster knowledge transfer and sharing of inputs and insights on the topic. The idea behind the initiative is to provide an overview on project management, especially related to environmental sustainability and social inclusion. We'd like to simulate project development on the basis of grant writing: participants will be given scenarios (e.g. urban regeneration projects, but also entrepreneurship initiatives such as green start-ups) and will try to apply and design as ESNers. Moreover, we'd like to give insights on the topic by facilitators who also apply those skills at work. The main objective is to highlight the link between what we do in our own small way, at a voluntary level, and what we can achieve on a larger scale - in "real life".
