MUSCAT: The ISC Goan Wing organised ‘Indoor Games 2016’ recently, at ISC Multipurpose Hall, Darsait. Islinda Nunes, co-convener welcomed the audience. She thanked each and every person present for their interest and commitment to take part in the games and recognised the work done by the organising committee for putting up such a lovely event, says a press release. Averyl Silveira said the opening prayer and Anthony Lourenco, convener declared the Indoor Sports Day open. The rules for each game namely, table tennis, carom and darts were briefly explained by the coordinators Ryan Fernandes, Wilson Pacheco and Rahul Parab. It was remarkable to see an overwhelming response from the members of the Goan Community who participated with great enthusiasm and energy. DJ Pravin kept the crowd in a cheerful mood with some great music. Lots of spot prizes were given during the games.

The chief guest for the evening was Ronnie Pereira. He is the first person in Oman to achieve a triple crown (singles, doubles and mixed doubles) in badminton in the year 1986. After that he was ranked in the top three in singles for the next five to six years and was unbeaten in mixed doubles for the next five years. He thanked the Goan Wing for giving him the opportunity to preside over the function. He wished the Goan Wing progress and prosperity for the future events. The guest of honour was Raul de Oliveira Fernandes. He is one of the founder members of Goan community of Oman and was also the helpline coordinator in the committee. As a token of appreciation the chief guest and the guest of honour were presented with a memento. The vote of thanks was given by Anthony Lourenco. He specially thanked Edwin Viegas, sports secretary and all other coordinators and volunteers for all the efforts put in organising the indoor games in a professional way.

Open day held at Muscat University

MUSCAT: Muscat University, Oman’s newest university which is partnering with the highlyranked Cranfield University and Aston University in the UK, recently held open day sessions for the benefit of students and their parents, at its temporary location in the Children’s Public Library building in Al Qurum. Professor Anthony Cahalan, the vice chancellor, welcomed the visitors and made a detailed presentation to them about the development and mission of the university and the strong support provided by the government and the founders to ensure the university’s success, says a press release. We are making the dream of Muscat University into a reality and we hope that by providing high quality international education in Muscat, we can empower Omani and international students to achieve their dreams.”

Pak Independence Day celebrated MUSCAT: Pakistan School Musannah celebrated 70th Independence Day of Pakistan on August 14 with enthusiasm and respect for the nation.
