In this workshop, you’ll dive into alternative energy sources by researching and designing your own solar oven. You’ll sharpen your scientific thinking skills through observation, experimentation, and problem-solving as you discover how solar ovens work, where they’re used, and the benefits they bring to society. You’ll explore which materials make the best insulators, learn to identify materials that capture and store solar heat, and analyze temperature vs. time data to understand energy transfer. After building your solar oven model, you’ll test it outdoors and even cook a simple meal using your design.

Este minimester de 4 días está diseñado para que desarrolles tus habilidades de expresión oral y escrita, creatividad y trabajo en equipo a través de una combinación de talleres, actividades vivenciales y presentaciones artísticas. Cada día incluye actividades prácticas y creativas que te permitirán explorar el arte de la narración de cuentos y la creación de títeres. La experiencia culmina en una presentación final donde podrás compartir tus historias utilizando los títeres que has creado.
En esta actividad de cineforum, veremos varias películas de géneros distintos como comedia, drama, ciencia ficción y acción, que nos ayudarán a explorar temas relevantes desde diferentes puntos de vista. Después de cada proyección, tendremos un espacio para debatir y analizar juntos aspectos técnicos, narrativos y simbólicos de las películas, además de conocer el contexto social o cultural que enriquece su mensaje. A través de esta experiencia, aprenderé a interpretar personajes, escenografías y contextos, y a descubrir cómo estos elementos influyen en el mensaje de cada historia.

In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the intersection of woodworking and music by designing and building your own functional musical instruments. Over four days, you will learn the basics of woodworking tools and safety, understand the physics of sound, and apply creativity and craftsmanship to bring your instrument designs to life. By the end of the workshop, you will have a completed instrument, ready to be showcased and played in a collaborative jam session!
In this introduction to journalism workshop, you will learn the key skills needed to be a journalist or reporter, including structuring articles, conducting interviews, and incorporating quotes to strengthen your stories. You’ll explore how to research and incorporate data, as well as gain handson experience with audio and video equipment for news reporting. Through research, practice, guest speakers, and hands-on training, you will learn to write newspaper articles on diverse topics, acquire multimedia for news stories, and edit videos, ultimately putting together your own news story.
In this workshop, we’ll focus on building a strong, authentic sense of community. Together, we’ll create a space where students from all backgrounds can come together to share their unique interests and talents. Our goal is to appreciate and understand each person’s individuality and value. What is digital art? How is it similar, and yet different from physical media? Come learn how to create illustrations with a drawing tablet in Adobe Photoshop, and the differing ways you can use the digital medium to create works of art. This Minimester will also reinforce some of the many foundations of knowledge and disciplines of 2D art. You are also welcome to use your own drawing tablets or iPads with Procreate or any other digital illustration software you know how to use. We will be doing different projects throughout the 4 days of the minimester and polish the artworks you decide to create.

In this four-day workshop, you will learn essential car maintenance tasks like changing oil, checking tires, and diagnosing electrical systems, while practicing safe driving techniques through real and virtual simulations. The workshop covers key topics such as the dangers of drinking and driving, accident prevention, and responsible driving. You will also observe car races to see mechanical skills in action. Additionally, You will become familiar with basic vehicle systems and safety practices, gaining hands-on experience to prepare you for real-world challenges in maintenance and, overall, responsible driving.
BILINGUAL POETRY
Workshop Lead: Luis Alvarado
This 4-day intensive workshop is designed to immerse you in the art of writing poetry in both English and Spanish. By exploring a variety of poetic forms—sonnets, free verse, and villanelle—you will develop your creative writing skills and deepen your understanding of how language, culture, and emotion intersect in poetry. You will write four poems: a sonnet, two free verse poems, and a villanelle. Two poems will be written in your own native language and the other two in your second language. The final product will be a bilingual poetry book where your work will be showcased in both languages, alongside optional illustrations that enhance your poems. The course will culminate in a poetry reading where you will present your bilingual creations to peers.
