Women's Day International

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the resilience, intellect, and leadership of women who have shaped Europe’s past, present, and future. From diplomats to scholars, activists to policymakers, women have been at the forefront of European progress, oftendefyingsocietalnormstomaketheirmark. Throughout history, remarkable women have contributed to shaping European integration, diplomacy, and social change. Simone Veil, a Holocaust survivor and the first female President of the European Parliament, fought for human rights and gender equality in EU policy Ursula von der Leyen, the current President of the European Commission, continuestochallengethestatusquo, advocatingforunity, sustainability, andinclusivity.

Breaking Barriers

As future European leaders, let us be inspired by the women who paved the way and take action ourselves. Let us challenge stereotypes, support one another, and create spaces where every voice is valued Because the future of Europe is not just shaped by policies and treaties it is shaped by thepeoplewhodaretobreakbarriers.

Butprogressisnotjustaboutthoseinhigh positions. It is about the countless female students, researchers, and professionals who bring new perspectives, challenge biases, and foster change within European Studies Every woman pursuing this field is part of a broader movement one that demands representation, equality, and recognition.

Throughout my career, first as a language student myself and now as a language teacher, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by intelligent, passionate women Let’s face it, language studies seem to be a bit of a ‘girl power’ discipline, because morewomenthanmenchoosethisfieldofexpertise, so I have been learning from and working alongside many truly inspiring women every day for my entire life as an adult I believe that over time, men and women have made great progress in blurring the lines between traditional gender roles which is definitelyastepforward Butlet’snotkidourselves,we are not quite there yet That is why it is so important to take this moment to celebrate the amazing women around us They deserve all the applause, confetti, andmaybeevenaglassofwine Theyhaveearnedit!
