September, the back side of summer, and what a summer it has been so far Record-setting heat accompanied by record-challenging and breaking drought
The month of September is a month when most cultural practices are behind us, and it is a time to recover from the many stressors endured over the past couple of months Cooler weather and some needed rainfall will also help us get the course dialed back in Projects are coming to an end, and we are pleased with the SOX lake bank erosion and bridge projects Moving forward we will focus on details and returning to premium playing conditions Our plan is to continue with our nutritional, soil, and PGR (plant growth regulator) programs, making slight seasonal adjustments when necessary The next scheduled pre and post-emergent herbicide application will also take place this month
It is great to have a complete Agronomy Senior team in place as we move toward fall. We are excited to announce that Mike Anderson is the new Shadow Hawk Golf Club Superintendent. Mike performed double duty in July and August before moving over full-time from Black Hawk. Chris Teafatiller has settled in nicely as the new Superintendent at Black Hawk and Jose Tostado is hard at work and enjoying his new role as our Equipment & Facilities Manager.
September usually means those of you who had the opportunity to escape to more favorable climates are slowly returning. Club events and the Fall golf season are getting underway, and the Agronomy team is energized and committed to making it a memorable time for all.

As the warm breeze of autumn approaches, we can feel the excitement building in the air at Black Hawk Country Club. Wooden Fence season is just around the corner, and we're gearing up for an exciting lineup of events that will round out our team's year in style.
First and foremost, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community of Members. Your passion for golf, camaraderie, and the Black Hawk spirit truly makes this club the exceptional place that it is. "The Kettle" Member-Guest Event: September 14-16
Prepare to tee off with enthusiasm and skill as we gear up for "The Kettle" Member-Guest Event from September 14th to 16th. We're thrilled to announce that this event has sold out with a full waitlist, a testament to the popularity of our events. Keep a close eye on your inbox for future emails detailing course closure times. This promises to be an event that showcases the finest golfing camaraderie and competitive spirit.
Ladies Interclub: September 21
On September 21st, our beautiful fairways will welcome ladies from clubs across Houston for the much-awaited Ladies Interclub. Join us as we root for our very own Black Hawk ladies, who will be striving to claim victory and emerge as champions. Their dedication and passion for the sport truly shine, and we're confident they'll make us proud.
Save the Date: Club Championship: October 7th-8th
Mark your calendars for October 7th and 8th, as the prestigious Club Championship approaches The signups will open on September 1st, and this is one event that no golf enthusiast would want to miss As the anticipation grows, make sure you're ready to test your skills and compete with fellow Members for the ultimate title
