GENERAL MANAGER

Last year we were light on the rain and this year Mother Nature appears to be making up for it We have had some bigtime rain events in the past few week Hopefully, as we progress through the year, we can get some weekly rain at smaller doses. The gully washers are not fun for anyone and make maintaining the golf course far more difficult.

I am pleased with the improvement we have seen on the north course greens in a short period of time. They are not where we want them yet, which means our foot will remain on the gas pedal. As I shared in one of my weekly updates, getting everything working in favor of turf health was instrumental. We believe we have done that. Over the next few weeks, we will be core aerifying and top dressing select greens to keep giving them the best conditions to thrive in.

The fairways are coming in nicely Many of you have commented to me about how nice they are playing As we continue working on improving the golf course, it is my goal by the end of summer to have sodded all needed spots by the end of the summer, focusing on some areas just off the fairways as well

Live Music was a fun night last week We will continue to offer our social calendar and keep seeing more people each time We certainly put these events together for all of you and encourage you to attend Coming up this month, fan favorite trivia night returns as well as Family Feud Night! More details to come on what that is all about

My commitment to improving this Club remains at the forefront Each and every day, I want to find ways to help improve your experience at and on the golf course My team shares in that objective, and we look forward to a great month

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

First off congratulations to (Jesse was having to look up who won) for winning our Master’s Pool. I think it’s obvious Scottie Scheffler is going to win a lot more before it’s all said and done He’s very Tiger-ess

Shifting gears, in an effort to always improve our member’s experience we would like to get a picture of all our members attached to their accounts Most of our staff know most of our membership, but we have new staff member’s joining the team from time to time or other team member’s that don’t work as often, making it hard for them recognize members at a glance We understand this won’t happen overnight but something we’ll have to chip away over time

The easiest way to do this is upload a picture to your membership profile Once you login to the membership portal click on Update My Profile Photo seen below Any picture will work…Facebook pic, Linkedin head shot, or Family portrait would be great. In an effort to get everyone ’ s picture faster, we may ask to get a picture at check-in or at the North halfway house time permitting Again, this is to help with us recognize all of our members’ faces and address everyone by name.

If you have any trouble getting logged into the Member Portal, email membership@blackhorsegolfclub.com and we will be happy to help you

Thank you again for the continued support and we will see you soon!

SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE

This past month we were able to get a lot of sand on top of and incorporated into the greens. We continue to top dress at a minimum of bi-weekly and will continue to do so to help combat our thatch layer. All of our ventings are really starting to make a difference in the plant health. As we continue to “ open the up ” we create more and more porosity in the soil allowing water and air to get down to the roots, all with the purpose of growing longer and healthier roots and creating more mass that can withstand the daily stresses that the turf goes through

We had a couple rain events in April that caused all kinds of “fun” for my team and I but they took the challenge and ran with it and we were able to move a lot of water off the course in a short amount of time and while the bunkers took longer than I would have preferred, we took the extra time to really make sure we cleaned as much of the silt and debris as possible before putting them back in order Anything we can do to keep the drains as clean as possible will benefit us in the long run

Our new rough mowers continue to be a bright spot for us down here They give us such a clean cut with little clipping issues left over to clean up We have now mowed all of our rough down to 1 5” and we have been able to keep them looking as good as I have seen them in my short time here.

May is another busy month for us as the temps we have been looking for are finally starting to show up for longer and longer stretches. I might be one of the few who looks forward to the heat of summer but for me it’s the best time to not only recover from all the winter stresses, but it’s also the best time to make improvements to turf conditions We will be slicing fairways starting this month in an effort to remove thatch as well as get the grass blade to stand up taller and give the ball a “teed up ” feel in the fairways It also helps with drainage and nutrient uptake

We have gotten all of our tees, collars and approaches mowed down to 400 of an inch and will maintain that throughout the year, weather permitting If we have another dry summer (seems like the understatement of the year) we will adjust mowing heights up to give the turf the best chance to stay healthy With the lowering of heights we have seen a little “browning” in some areas but that will heal up quickly as the grass gets mowed more frequently and consistently at that height We will be fertilizing tees this week as well as a bulk fertilizer application later this month to all the tees and fairways We are increasing our fertility in these areas to help promote as much growth and coverage in these areas as they see the most foot and cart traffic.

F&B DIRECTOR

We had an amazing evening at the Wine Dinner hosted by Chef Gustavo and Starter Vince! The feedback on the food was remarkable and it is safe to say I snuck a taste of each course too, except the scallops! I don’t do seafood!
