Welcome to October! After an extremely warm summer and September, we are all excited to have our fall weather and golf season upon us Many members made their way back to Houston last month from summer travels and for those of you back full-time welcome The golf course continued to improve during the month of September We got a hint of rain (just under an inch) which definitely helped but we certainly need some normal timely rainfall this month We enjoyed getting back in the swing of things and hosting a handful of well-attended Member events last month Congratulations to our Hawk Cup winners Mr Michael Bass and Mr Lasse Petterson This month we look forward to hosting our club championships and our member guest As always, continue to read on as the department heads have updates to share with the Membership If you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Happy Fall! As the leaves change and temperatures cool down, we invite you to make the most of this beautiful fall season at the Club! This is a perfect time of year to invite your friends to join you in membership to Shadow Hawk! Many of you have asked about our current membership availability. We are on a waitlist at Shadow Hawk, with that being said, we still have members leave the club from time to time for personal reasons or moving out of the area. For your friends and family who are interested in joining Shadow Hawk, we are offering a waitlist opportunity. They will have the ability to join the club as a “Member in Waiting”, they will be offered access to the club upon an opening of a member resignation. Please let us know if you have someone you would like to extend an invitation to explore membership at Shadow Hawk and the opportunity to join upon availability!

TURF TALK

Fall has arrived! In the Agronomy world, October typically signifies we have endured the many challenges summer has thrown at us and can now dig our cleats back in and make this final push to get those finite details dialed in and have a successful Fall season before prepping the course to for winter in proper fashion.

October is typically a busier month with those members who may have escaped the rigors of South Texas summer returning, the weather being much more favorable for playing golf, and of course member events. Our team will be super focused on details, replacing some of the Zoysia areas that did not survive the summer, weed control, and overall turf health. Our Winter pigment program will also be implemented this month on all short cut areas such as tees, fairways, and approaches

Tuesday – Wednesday, October 3rd - 4th – Ladies Club Championship

This event will have a Gross and Net Flight, depending on the number of players to sign up The objective of this event is to provide an opportunity for the Ladies to compete and crown a Champion for 2023 The format is Single Elimination Match Play This event is complimentary and open to Shadow Hawk Lady Members Tee times will begin at 9:00 a m on both days Please email Allan to sign up: amcdermott@shadowhawkgolfclub com

Monday Operating Hours in October

October 2nd – The golf course will be closed for the day for a private member outing. The driving range and practice facilities will open at 1:30 p.m.

October 9th – The club will be open a full day in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Tee times will begin at 8:00 a.m. and we will start taking tee times on Friday, October 6th at 8:30 a.m. The clubhouse will have full-day operating hours as well.

October 30th – The golf course will be closed for the day for a private member outing. The driving range and practice facilities will open at 1:30 p.m.

Friday – Sunday, October 6th - 8th – Men’s Club Championship

This event is also Single Elimination Match Play and complimentary to the participants Flights will be made based on handicap, with the lowest designated the Championship Flight This flight will tee off from the Hawk Tees, all the way back The next flights will be handicapped and based on the Blue and Silver tees, with the option to move forward if your Age + Handicap is greater than 75 Please email Adam to sign up: acreed@shadowhawkgolfclub com

Thursday – Saturday, October 19th - 21st – Men’s Member-Guest, The Hawk

The Hawk is our premiere event of the season and will close the golf course to regular play on these dates The Driving Range and Practice Areas will open at approximately 11:00 a m each day This 54-team event is full, but you may contact Justin to get on the waiting list: jengel@shadowhawkgolfclub com Player packets containing tournament details and a schedule of events will go out to all participating Members before the event
