It was nice to FINALLY get some rain after three record hot and dry months As many of you have discussed with me, we made a commitment to invest in the course to maintain great conditions throughout the drought we have experienced I would certainly not say we are back where we want to be on total rainfall, but the course responded really well to the heavy doses at the end of September.

We are really looking forward to the BlackHorse Derby at month’s end. We have worked with a committee this year to ensure the greatest success of this event. I want to thank the members of the committee for being a part of the planning process and helping us brainstorm the best ideas for a marquee event. Thank you again to Jeff Welch, Grant Hester, Dean Carr, Mark Grimes, David Hamilton and Carl McClosky.

I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that all members and guests must check in the golf shop prior to going on the course We want to insure and protect the value of the membership Please know that taking guests onto the course without following the appropriate check in process will be deemed unacceptable

Jesse and his team will also continue enforcing no show tee times It our responsibility to ensure that every member that wants to play golf has every opportunity to so, if at all possible Members that no-show or short-show tee times will be charged accordingly after an initial friendly reminder from Jesse If you are not going to be using your tee time, simply log in and cancel, call the golf shop, or email Jesse at jcampbell@blackhorsegolfclub com

We are thrilled to introduce a new member to our team who will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of our course - Chris Teafatiller, our new Golf Course Superintendent.

Chris joins us with an impressive background in golf course management, having worked at golf clubs across the city of Houston, including Black Hawk, for many years. His passion for the game and dedication to maintaining pristine greens and fairways align perfectly with our commitment to excellence.

As our Golf Course Superintendent, Chris will be responsible for ensuring that our course remains in topnotch condition throughout the year He brings a wealth of knowledge in turfgrass management, irrigation, and sustainable course practices, which will contribute to the overall health and aesthetics of our course

Chris’s approachable demeanor and commitment to open communication make him a valuable addition to our team He is eager to meet and gather feedback from our Members, ensuring that our course continues to meet the high standards we all appreciate

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Chris Teafatiller His expertise and enthusiasm will undoubtedly elevate our golfing experience, and we look forward to a playing the course under his care

If you see Chris out on the course, I encourage you to introduce yourself and share your thoughts. Your feedback and engagement are crucial in helping us maintain the course to your satisfaction.

Congratulations to our 2023 Club Champions! Blake Brown won the Men’s Championship with rounds of 74 (South) and 73 (North) Jordan Sloane defended her 2022 title with rounds of 78 (South) and 77 (North) to win the Women’s Championship After some great performances in the Scratch League, Larry Seidel posted rounds of 72 (South) and 76 (North) to win the Senior Championship Lastly, Carl McCloskey won the Blue Tee Championship (net) Congratulations to all of our 2023 Champions

We are looking forward to crowning our next champions this month. The BlackHorse Derby will help us close out the month of October. If you have never seen a Horserace, you should make plans to be at the Club on Sunday, October 29 as we determine the overall champion of the Derby. It is an exciting time with players experiencing as much pressure as they ever have.

This month we start the playoffs for Scratch League. All points will reset and we will battle it out for four weeks to see who we crown the Scratch League Champion on November 1. Anyone can still join us for Scratch League, so make plans to come join us this month on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. as we wrap up a great first season of Scratch League

September’s Burger and Bingo night was a great success. We had almost 40 players and that type of participation is very much appreciated As you can see in the photos, we had a diverse group of members and enjoyed the social atmosphere.

We have two new dates for your to add to your calendar October 17th will be another round of Bingo! This time paired with Chef’s signature tacos. We will bring Trivia back in November on the 14th and it will be Chili Bowl themed! Please be on the lookout for both of these RSVP links and let’s keep the social programming momentum

While not eligible for the photo of the month contest, our Pro Shop Attendant, Larry, submitted the cover photo for this month’s newsletter. Larry wanted to showcase the beauty of the course to his family and came up late evening to show them the quarry On his drive back in, the setting sun was beaming off the clouds behind the 18th green on our south course.
