14 DECEMBER 1911 ON THE SOUTH POLE On 14 December 1911, Roald Amundsen was the first man ever to set foot on the South Pole - a groundbreaking achievement of such magnitude, that it is hard to grasp a century later. Years of planning, training and research made it possible for Amundsen to venture with confidence into the unknown. To conquer this last uncharted territory - a desert of ice, howling winds and temperatures down to minus 90 degrees Celsius - required massive courage as well as a mind so determined that it was only a question of when - rather than if - he would make it there.

ON THE SUMMIT OF AMUNDSEN PEAK, ANTARCTICA Little did Amundsen know, that one of his relatives, Jørgen Amundsen, would return to Antarctica a century later. The obvious choice might have been to retrace Amundsen’s footsteps to the South Pole. However, it was more of a challenge to venture on an expedition in Amundsen’s spirit - and thus began a journey into untrodden territory. The main goal of the expedition was to undertake a pioneer ascent of an unclimbed mountain, alongside testing Amundsen Sports’ unique clothing concept, the 3-Part Transformer System in its true elements.

Knee-length pants have many names; Breeches, Breeks, Plus Two’s, Plus Four’s, Knickers, Trews, Messenger Shorts etc. We call them Knickerbockers. Knickerbockers were highly popular in sports, due to their versatility and comfort, typically worn by skiers, rock climbers and mountaineers. Why they faded out during the 20th century, is hard to explain. Knickerbockers have a range of advantages over regular pants. They adapt to the rapid weather contrasts in the mountains, and provide vastly better moveability. We recognize this and have developed the world’s first technical knickerbocker. To test them in their true elements, we went on an expedition to Antarctica where the products were extensively tested for weeks. We are fully convinced that knickerbockers are superior to regular pants for a great many sports and activities. WHEN THE WHOLE IS BETTER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS We often find ourselves discussing which is the best fabric for the mountaineer. Is it 3-layer fabrics? Softshells? Cottons or even wool? Is it better to have insulated garments or not? We realize that all the above have their advantages and disadvantages. 3-layers are unequalled for waterproof, cottons for breathability, softshells for stretch and comfort, and wool for warmth. Together with 2x World Champion freeskier Ane Enderud, we set out to develop a collection in a FUSION of all the most fitting fabrics and properties. The result is a jacket, anorak and split pants in a FUSION of all these fabrics. During the conquest of the North West Passage, Roald Amundsen lived with the Inuits and learnt their techniques, equipment and know-how. One thing he brought with him to the South Pole, was the way the Inuits ensured extra warmth on the kidneys and liver areas to save the body energy otherwise used to protect these vital parts. We have integrated this idea into these jackets and anroaks, with triple insulation in these areas. The jacket and anorak features 7 outside pockets in addition to a large inside pocket in the jacket model. One of these pockets are the muff - a tunnel pocket on the stomach to truly keep hands warm. To allow for the same pocket on the jacket version, an asymmetrical front zipper has been designed. The split pants, are our version of a pant look with all the benefits of the knickerbocker and gaiter. They are split under the knees, and can be worn both as a knickerbocker and as full pants. A new and more water resistant integration between upper and lower part is introduced.

As hood trim Coyote fur is the natural choice to protect your face from tough winter conditions. The fur that we use is acquired in Canada in the most humane ways from wild animals only, and follows the guidelines of the Fur Council of Canada.
