PROJECT 2 ENACT

An experiential journey is developed through exploratory apparatus seen through the lens of cinematic compositions. It is developed in several angles and possibilities to rigorously question its impact on occupants through a playful take on scale, intimacy, immensity, absurdity, etc.

REFLECTION

This semester was a journey for me to explore design and my own design language. It was a new challenge for me by choosing the cats in Georgetown as the topic for my final year project. However, I found it interesting because it was a unique experience to design a space with liminal corners for the liminal animal, the stray and feral cats.

In this project, the biggest challenge for me is to design a space that fits cats' and human's ergonomics. Besides, it was also a challenge while I'm exploring my own design language. However, I was lucky to have two lecturers who guided me to understand the design that I preferred. I personally think that I have a different design language from my classmate. It was a good thing but this has also brought me a bigger challenge, which is to let people accept it. During the final presentation, I found that a lot of people will prefer to look at the boards with complex and architectural designs. Despite this, I felt proud when both of my juries showed that they are willing to accept my design language after I explained it to them. Besides, I have successfully challenged myself to design a space with recycled items and did not choose to play safe with the color scheme. However, both of my juries have also given me some useful suggestions. First, I should have considered more about the cats' safety and refabricated the objects in my space. For example, I could have changed the material of the red stool in my Perspective 2 to let the cats hold the stool easier while jumping on it. Second, I should include more blue and yellow colors in my space as one of my research is taking about the color blindness of cats. Third, the space could be more cinematic like in the movie "Hotel for Dogs". For instance, every machine in my space could work together at a scheduled time. Forth, I need to challenge myself to create an "exploded sectional perspective" which I did not manage to make it during this semester.

In short, I enjoyed the journey of challenging myself. To be highlighted, it was amazing to get inspired by the works and artists that both of my lecturers showed me. This made me get interested in exploring other people's works and spending time understanding their design concepts. Lastly, I appreciate the suggestions, advice, and assistance from the supportive humans around me!
