Project : Rebuild the port of Beirut after the explosion in 2020 caused by ammonium nitrate stored in the silos.
01
D
After the Explosion in 2020 the numbers of TEUs (Twentyfoot equivalent unit) passing through the port decreased by over 60%. When they had over 1,229,000 TEUs on average yearly. Over 200+ people were laid off and they had only 4 terminals working.
The entrance to the container terminal has four lane of highway connected to a single entry to the port. As well as exiting the port, it has just one single lane leading to the highway
Silos
Internal Roads
They are very congested and do not follow a grid
The silos in the center do not allow for quick discharge of grain vessels for it takes 3-6 days
Passenger terminal
Storage
Its characteristics do no allow for the terminal to recieve large passenger vessels due to a depth of 8m and an overall length of 204m
The container terminal is so congested because they allow containers to be stored for more than 6 months
Entrance
Local Professionals
They have invested millions in order to train over 600 locals in Lebanon

Electricity fails daily for around 2-3hrs leaving the city in darkness, as shortages and fuel prices silence the whir of the generators on which many rely to make up for the lack of electricity
Its characteristics do no allow for the terminal to recieve large passenger vessels due to a depth of 8m and an overall length of 204m
Due to hyperinflation it has left goods at an unaffordable price for the once affluent middle class, which now according to experts, ceased to exist
Local Professionals

Health
Since the main grain silo was blown open causing heaps of grain to spill out it has lead to a health deterioration in the area. The kernels by late spring nourished and sprouted into wheat, attracting rats and other pests contaminating the area even more.

They are still functioning but nowhere near where they used to be. The majority of the cranes have held up in order to help discharge and load.
Efficiency

The layout and configuration of the port will allow for ships to have a fastr turnaround. With the addition of the island, the setback and joinging of the conventional cargo

Master Plan
With features driven by successful ports like Shanghai, Singapore, and Valencia this proposal allows for the expansion and growth of Beirut’s city and port. The island will allow for traffic to flow with ease as they won’t struggle to turnaround. Making the wavebreaker into a pedestrian walkway links the public to the port.

Additionally, they may not have time for a dog or enjoy social spaces, but being around them makes them feel closer to home. Young professionals may still need some help saving money and therfore sometimes seek a home with a laundry facility, a gym, and enough storage. They seek safety features and the feeling of being a part of a community even thought they may not have time to socialize. They also seek an office space from which they may work from home. Married couples often times seek a safe home in which they could help create a community along with their pet. They are usually stable enough to aquire a in-unit washer and dryer, require their own office, and adequate storage. Additonally, they may want to workout alongside each other. The elderly often seek for activities to do and therefore would enjoy having a computer lab, social spaces, a dog park, while still feeling safe inside the community. They will seek space to have their own in unit washer and dryer.
