RECYCLING ASSESSMENT PROJECT
Level Gloves has embarked on a journey to become a fully sustainable company and this next step is a milestone. We are now partners of Rematrix and RE-SPORT, two innovation hubs that study how to recycle and repurpose textile products. Rematrix is project born out of the will to give new life to fabrics at the end of their life span. The company works closely with us to create an innovative business model and manage the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems. The complex logistics, physical collection and processing needs of end-of-life products and industrial waste are successfully managed, digitized, and tracked in realtime using the in-house developed iSystem platform.
RE-SPORT is a spin-off of the University of Bologna, which develops innovative recycling technologies for the recycling of sports equipment and everyday life goods made of plastic or composite materials. RE-SPORT develops all the recycling process steps of end-of-life multi-material products, starting from the proofof-concept up to the industrial plant design, taking into consideration the environmental impact and the economics of the process.
We collaborate with RE-SPORT and Rematrix to study and assess the life cycle of our products.

1 - 2 MECHANICAL RECYCLING OF POLYESTER
GLOVES:
The recycling of polyester gloves begins with the removal of non-polyester components, followed by grinding the material for reuse. This process ensures a consistent and high-quality output, utilizing techniques such as injection molding and rigorous mechanical testing.
By integrating virgin materials and recycled PET from bottles, we enhance the properties of the recycled polyester, ensuring it retains strength and elasticity while minimizing its environmental footprint, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional gloves.
We employ cutting-edge recycling technologies, including PURELOOP’s filtration and solid-state polymerization, to maintain the purity and performance of the material, making it suitable for creating new fibers sourced sustainably.
3 - 4 SELECTIVE DISSOLUTION OF LEATHER:
For the leather components, we utilize a selective dissolution process. The leather is immersed in an alkaline solution (pH ≈ 13) of water and sodium hydroxide at 60°C for four hours, effectively breaking it down for recycling.
The remaining glove textiles, excluding the GORE-TEX membrane, are ground and combined with 10% by weight of PP-PE bi-component fibers. This mixture is then molded and heated at 140°C for ten minutes to create a non-woven textile.
This innovative approach, successfully applied in recycling mattresses and textiles, aims to transform used gloves and similar materials into high-quality insulation products.
