Culture creation: pun intended. This bakery at the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Hudson Valley is designed to be a new hub for the regional grain economy of the Northeast. The glulam barn structure recalls the wooden skeleton of historic barns, combining two iconic formal cues of the campus. A bakery, cafe, and mill are combined in a space bridging old and new. programming to happen, and addresses the campus’ need for a new ‘face’ to welcome visitors.

This adaptive housing project imagines a future “Year tiple potential forms. The building takes cues from the site’s industrial past as a railway station, and residential unit are allowed access to both water and urban views. daycare in Ithaca, NY WOODWORKS: INTEGRATIVE STUDIO ARCH 2012 SECOND YEAR STUDIO: SPRING 2019 INSTRUCTORS: SASA ZIVCOVIC

This daycare is sited in a unique location in Ithaca, NY, in a valley between an urban and

sight-lines and changing heights as an important educational and architectural element. Children are encouraged to play within the tent-like structure of the building, constantly ascending and descending in activies of play and learning.

preschool for a desert climate “ADAPTIVE MUTATIONS” ARCH 1102 FIRST YEAR STUDIO: SPRING 2018 INSTRUCTORS: VAL WARKE, LUBEN DIMCHEFF

Drawing upon vernacular architecture in arid climates as precedents, this preschool was designed for a dry arid climate where water access and cooling needs are the main design concerns. Taking inspiration from Indian stepwells, this project is set partically below ground to increase cooling via thermal mass, and features channels that direct water into a central cooling well for children to play in.
