Third Place Market Market and Community Center, 2023

The design proposes a market and community center located on the north side of Sara D. Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Following the site’s essence, the proposal seeks to maintain basketball as a main community driver, challenging the program requirements, and placing a basketball court as a central organizational element.

The ground floor is treated as a public space, easily accessible, and with the minimum use of hard boundaries. Therefore, most public parts of the program are located there, including the market, event space, lockers (which double as a staff coat room), and bleachers that work as a continuation of the public space into the second floor, serving as the main circulation element in the sectional plane.

On the other hand, the second level is treated as a see-through skin, which serves as an open, public space while allowing light into the first level and wrapping the private programs for shading and privacy.

Third Place Market provides the community with a new type of public space, where neighbors can benefit from the new market and have a place to be – a Third Place.

Brooklyn Public Library and Film Center, 2023

Juxtaposing a programmatic organization aligned to the city grid with a sculptural envelope that unifies the program spaces, the building is split between two towers, one for production and the other for screening.

A central circulation core and two angled bridges allow for access between the towers while the existing library is treated as a plinth, simplifying its aesthetic. The roof functions as a new ground plane for the addition — an elevated urban plaza.

The Inhabited Bridge Social Housing, 2022

The Meta-house design proposes densifying a residential block in the city of New Orleans, envisioning an urban redevelopment impulsed by the closure of the nearby port and preventing future gentrification by empowering current landowners in the area. The design triplicates the number of homes on the block and offers shared amenities for the residents. At the same time, the proposal gives back land to the city by creating an urban plaza on the ground level and a multi-use elevated street on the second level.

The building’s increasing volume towards Tchoupitoulas St. establishes a threshold between the domestic scale in the Tchoupitoulas area and the larger industrial scale toward Annunciation Street. The building also creates an experiential transition between the urban plaza and a small forest encompassed by the building’s morphology.

Alicante Congress Center International Competition, 2023

The competition entry focuses on organizing the site with a congress center and office building as central elements. The congress center is positioned to the west, facing the sea, while the office building is near the marina entrance to form the endpoints of a transformative urban journey. A connecting elevated walkway, resembling a covered balcony, links the two, bordering a palm tree garden along the sea. This garden serves as the largest open space in the port, enhancing the overall urban quality.

The design emphasizes promenades and access routes, particularly those facing the sea. The unique character is defined by the thoughtful arrangement of pathways, creating a dynamic and visually engaging urban space that harmonizes with nature and promotes community connectivity.
