Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region Hospitals Give Thanks to Emergency Medical Services Workers During EMS Week As part of National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 16-21, Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region hospitals Lower Bucks, Suburban Community, and Roxborough Memorial Hospitals are honoring frontline professionals.

During National EMS Week, we are recognizing the important work our EMS members do for our communities throughout the Pennsylvania region. Over the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more challenging for EMS personnel on the frontlines who have continued to provide exceptional patient care.

To mark the occasion, Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region hospitals are providing lunch for their local first responders.

"We want to make sure that our EMS members who work with the Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region and help our patients in a time of need know we deeply appreciate their service and skill," said Jacqueline Pester-Babcock, RN, MSN, regional chief nursing officer, Prime Healthcare Region II. Pester-Babcock added, "We are thankful for their dedication every day. This week's festivities are just a small way we can show that we care about them.”

National EMS Week began under the direction of President Gerald Ford in 1974. According to the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, the week celebrates the important work EMS practitioners do in American communities.

EMS is a key element of our nation's health care and public safety systems. Every day, 24/7, in every community, EMS responds to patient calls for help in an accident or medical emergency, such as heart attack, stroke, a fall, difficulty breathing, drug overdose or acute illness. As strongly displayed during this pandemic, EMS is a vital component of our nation's ability to respond to public health crises.

Pester-Babcock added, “The pressures and difficulties they have overcome the past two years deserve our deepest recognition and thanks.”

National EMS Week also illuminates the thousands of first responders, emergency medical technicians, and paramedics who make-up a complete system designed to save lives.
