World Teacher Day

World Teachers Day

World Teachers Day is an annual event held to commemorate teachers globally and their dedication towards actualizing education for all. The World Teachers Day, which is held every 5th October, was launched by UNESCO in 1994. Considering the importance of teachers in shaping future generations, this day was dedicated to celebrate their efforts and thank them for their tireless hard work. It is the least the whole world can do for them.

HOW THE TEACHERS DAY BECAME A GLOBALLY CELEBRATED EVENT

World Teachers Day became a celebrated event in 1994. The holiday is symbolic and marks the adoption of the UNESCO Recommendation 1966 regarding the conditions of the teachers. The Recommendation established standards concerning the rights of teachers for their early preparation, recruitment, learning environment, and further education.

It’s to be noted that World Teachers Day is different from National Teacher Day, although both celebrate teachers. National Teacher Day is celebrated on the first Tuesday of the first week in May. World Teacher Day, on the other hand, is celebrated on the 5th of October.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WORLD TEACHERS DAY

The special day is chosen to honor the teaching profession, which many describe as hard. But, being a teacher, maintaining calmness and positivity even when you have a personal crisis is legendary. So, a day like this shows that everyone acknowledges their plights and efforts regardless.

While the day is to celebrate teachers and thank them for their impact on society, it also x-rays the current problems affecting teachers. There are still many issues some teachers go through in the world. This isn’t limited to academic liberty, academic furtherance, maintaining teaching standards, etc. Therefore, a day like this is chosen to discuss the various issues surrounding the teaching profession and solve them.

HOW WORLD TEACHERS DAY IS OBSERVED

Lots of people observe World Teachers Day in their respective ways. However, the simplest way people celebrate this special day is by buying the teacher a gift. The gift can come as an appreciation card, craft, etc.

Some parents also choose to celebrate World Teachers Day by making such teachers feel welcomed at home. These parents set up breakfasts or lunches for them and could even reward them with monetary gifts. The idea of the special day is to give teachers the best treat.
