Vermeer completely redesigns its VXT600 vacuum truck The Vermeer VXT600 vacuum truck has undergone a complete redesign to enhance its performance and provide a lightweight machine that allows for a high spoil tank capacity.

The load capacity has been increased for road use, while components and technology have been optimized for reliability and serviceability. Furthermore, the machine has incorporated performance-enhancing features to boost productivity for vacuum crews.

With a 9.2 cubic metre elongated spoil tank design and 4,542.5 litre freshwater tank capacity, the second generation VXT600 vacuum truck weighs in at 18,143 kg. This new design allows for even weight distribution when travelling while maximizing the volume of material hauled.

“We made this truck as light as possible,” said Jake Jeffords, Vermeer’s Director of Sales, Marketing and Global Accounts.

“The weight distribution gives you the ability to put more payload in the spoil tank, so you’re on the job longer and being more efficient.”

The vac truck also features a low profile with a 3.7 metre height (with boom), so it can maneuver under trees, power lines and bridges.

It features a vacuum system that is powered by a 6,400cfm helical tri-lobe Jurop blower. With a 7-metre boom, a 20.3-cm diameter dig hose, a vacuum level of 27 inHg and a water pump that produces 37.9 litres per minute of flow at 3,000 psi, the VXT600 can dig quickly and deeply.

The VXT600 is also designed to operate quietly while on the job.

“When we dig, the machine's right around that mid 80 decibel level, so you're still able to operate and talk and communicate on the job,” Jeffords said.

Additionally, the boom dig hose can be stowed with the dig tube attached to minimize setup time between digs.

When it's time to empty the spoil tank, crews will appreciate the labour-saving functionality of the VXT600 vac truck. They don’t need to unstow the boom before dumping, and the tank's cam-over door is easy to operate. The spoil

tank can be lifted to a 50-degree angle for quick offloading.

For even more efficient cleanouts, an optional tank vibrator is available. A handwashing station is included for operator convenience.

“We have incorporated many features that contractors appreciate about the popular Vermeer VXT300 vacuum excavator to create the larger and more powerful VXT600," said T.J. Steele, Product Manager for Vermeer MV Solutions.

“We believe this second-generation VXT600 is exactly what the industry is looking for in a high-production vacuum excavator. It is an excellent choice for utility contractors who want to increase their potholing productivity. We designed the new VXT600 from the ground up with the goal of making the lightest 9.2-metre truck on the market.”

The VXT600 has a 17.8-cm LCD electronic display and a full-function wireless remote with the option of a belly pack or handheld unit. There are two chassis options available: a Kenworth T880 truck with a 510-hp Paccar MX-13 engine and a 6-speed Allison 4500RDS transmission; and a

Mack Granite truck with a 505-hp Mack MP8 engine with a 6-speed Allison 4500RDS engine. Both chassis have a 39,009 kg GVWR and two pusher axles.

Other customization accessories available for the VXT600 include a 180-cfm, 110-psi air compressor for dry digging and powering pneumatic tools, a 75.7 litre per minute water pump to allow crews to dig with two wands, a 420,000 BTU Dynablast hot water heater, and a cold weather kit to heat cabinets, water lines and valves.

Wacker Neuson introduces new utility track loaders in Canada Wacker Neuson has added two new utility track loader models to its lineup.

The SM60 and SM120 utility track loaders are now available in Canada, complementing the successful launch of the SM100 in late 2021.

The utility track loaders are ideal for landscaping, light site work, grading, auguring and general material handling. The step-up and go concept make operating the SM series of machines easy to use and productive.

The largest machine in the SM series is the SM120, designed for the professional who needs to lift, move and place more during their landscape, tree service and site work.

Perkins has developed a 13-litre next-generation diesel engine Perkins recently announced the development of its new 2600 Series, a new 13-litre diesel engine platform designed to achieve bestin-class power density, torque and fuel efficiency for heavy duty off-highway applications.

Available in 2026, the Perkins 2600 Series engine platform is designed for demanding requirements in construction and other off-road applications.

The new platform extends Perkins’ mid-sized engines with eight power ratings from 456 to 690 hp

offering up to 3,200 Nm of peak torque. Industrial open power units configured with engine-mounted aftertreatment and cooling packs will also be available from the factory to reduce installation and validation costs for original equipment manufacturers.

All eight power ratings for higher regulated markets will be available on a common core engine, enabling OEMs to reduce their inventory and integration costs.

The combination of the all-new rear gear train, stiffer core architecture, and common rail fuel system reduces noise by up to 3 dB when compared with Perkins current 13, 15 and single-turbo 18-litre engines.

Perkins will offer 2600 Series engines configured to meet the emissions standards of higher regulated countries, such as Stage V, EPA Tier 4 Final, China Non-road IV, Korea Stage V and Japan 2014, as well as versions for lesser regulated countries.

The engines are also compatible with renewable liquid fuels, including 100 per cent hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO), B100 distilled biodiesel and up to B100 fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) standard biodiesel.

Additionally, its core architecture supports the future development of spark-ignited natural-gas and hydrogen fuel capabilities.

New Holland begins rollout of its C314 mini track loader New Holland Construction has announced the commercial availability of its C314 mini track loader throughout North America.

Designed to meet the demands of landscape and general contractors, the lightweight stand-on machine is purpose-built for maneuverability across diverse job sites and can handle an extensive list of tasks, including loading, dumping and drilling.

“The C314 mini track loader was constructed to effectively address the diverse requirements of today’s contractors,” said Doran Herritt, Product Manager for New Holland Construction North America.

“Given the indispensable role of smaller profiled equipment in the landscaping sector, having this machine included in one’s toolbox is paramount to help them address the specific requirements each jobsite has.”

The C314 mini track loader is powered by a 25-hp engine.

Its utility spans a wide spectrum of jobs, from paving patios and walkways to managing vegetation debris, as well as tackling light-duty construction projects like erecting foundations and decks.

Mini track loader attachments The machine is compatible with New Holland Construction’s suite of 29 attachments thanks to its auxiliary flow rate of 57 litres per minute.

Its common industry interface and 14pin electric multifunction control provide hook-up versatility with new and older attachments, including augers, trenchers, grapple buckets and rakes. With an appropriate rated operating capacity of

453 kg at 35 per cent of tipping load, and 89 cm of working space, operators can efficiently tackle mild structural projects.

These encompass tasks like laying footings for modest structures, handling fence line work and executing irrigation or drainage projects.

The loader also boasts a dump height of 51 cm for loading.

Unique operator positioning One of the standout features of the C314 mini track loader is its unique operator positioning, as the operator is placed in closer proximity to the drive and motor.

The arrangement enhances machine control, especially considering its stand-on configuration.

The mini track loader also provides more

stability, thanks to being situated closer to the core of the machine.

Several other features have been added to enhance the operator environment of the C314 mini track loader, including hydraulic pilot joystick control and loader and ground drive control lockout.

To improve overall comfort, the machine comes equipped with a cushioned platform, hand throttle and grab handles.

The wheel loader offers up to 5 per cent less fuel consumption and up to 15 per cent lower maintenance costs than the Cat 988K. Designed to maximize life-cycle value in moderate production applications up to 2,000 hours per year, the 988 GC can deliver production within 6 per cent of the 988K in truck loading applications.

Bobcat debuts E40 compact excavator, revises 3-to-5-ton model nomenclature Bobcat Company is expanding its compact excavator lineup with the introduction of the new Bobcat E40.

As part of the expansion, Bobcat is revising the model numbers for its 3-to-5-ton excavator line to better align with the industry’s size class.

The E40, which will become commercially available in late 2023, is a minimal tail swing compact excavator with less than 5 cm of overhang and a standard long arm.

With an operating weight of 4,164 kg, the E40 delivers a digging force of 7,284 foot pounds and a maximum reach of 5.5 metres and a lift capacity of 1,787 kg.

The compact excavator also delivers an over-theblade lift capacity and over-the-side lift capacity that’s comparable to conventional tail swing models.

The E40 is an ideal jobsite solution for contractors re-

ARA Foundation and Toro partner on community impact project in Langley, BC The American Rental Association (ARA) Foundation recently partnered with The Toro Company Foundation to complete a community impact project in Langley, British Columbia.

The project was in support of the Pacific Riding for Developing Abilities (PRDA), a non-profit, therapeutic equestrian riding centre dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with a wide range of abilities.

Based in the United Kingdom, Tedd Engineering employs about 70 people.

The company generated about GBP 15 million in sales in the financial year that ended in June 2023.

Jura Creek Enterprises purchased Alberta’s first three Rokbak RA40 articulated haulers to move huge amounts of aggregates, stone and rock.

All three trucks were immediately put into production at the Crowsnest Pass quarry.

The site produces high calcium material including limestone aggregate, stackables and armourstone, with Jura Creek Enterprises selling about 1,360 tonnes of material from the quarry daily. The RA40s have fit in well, delivering both comfort and efficiency to ensure the operators have a “yabba-dabba-do time” while working on shift.

Each RA40 at Crowsnest Pass needs to transport blasted limestone to a crusher or trommel screen in about 2 km cycles. The RA40 articulated steering system ensures optimal manoeuvrability, enabling the hauler to navigate through tight spaces and tackle steep inclines with ease, a feature proving important to navigate the challenging Alberta terrain.

The 38,000 kg truck features heavy-duty axles, drivetrain gear reduction and differential locks to deliver their payload. With all three axles in permanent all-wheel drive, the articulated truck delivers ample traction, reduced driveline wear and reduced wheel spin.

“It’s brilliant to hear how well the three RA40 units have been performing on site for the Jura Creek Enterprises team,” said Rokbak Regional Sales Manager Greg Gerbus.

Second electric skid steer introduced by First Green Industries First Green Industries has announced the launch of the Elise 700, the second addition to its electric skid steer loader lineup.

The Elise 700 is a lighter version of the Elise 900. Designed with a lithium battery, the electric skid steer provides longer run times and faster recharging than traditional lead-acid batteries.

The Elise 700 is designed to cater to smaller construction and agricultural operations, offering a balance between power and maneuverability.

Its lightweight design, lithium battery and narrower wheels make it more portable and versatile than its predecessor.

“When battery-operated drills were first introduced into the market, they faced skepticism. Now, cordless drills are the norm due to their convenience and efficiency. Similarly, while electric skid steers may be a relatively new concept, they will become mainstream as more people recognize their benefits,” said Ken Pederson, Sales Manager at Evolution Mechanical, a Canadian First Green Industries dealer.

The electric skid steer weighs 3,500 kg and measures 1.7 metres wide, allowing the machine to be

Euro Auctions acquires Michener Allen Euro Auctions, parent company of Yoder & Frey, has acquired Michener Allen Auctioneering Limited, a Canadian industrial equipment and automotive auction company.

Michener Allen was founded in 1971 and has more than 50 employees operating from three permanent auction sites in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. As well, Michener Allen has affiliates across Canada to cater to its national contracts and provides offsite one owner auction services for customers.

The company runs about 50 auctions a year which includes seven major three-day showpiece auctions.

The acquisition aims to strengthen the existing North American operations that Euro Auctions has in the United States under the Yoder & Frey brand and will enable Euro Auctions to gain a foothold in the Canadian Market with the successful and established Michener Allen auction house.

Sennebogen opens new steel plant in Hungary Sennebogen has opened a new steel plant in Hungary to expand its capacity for steel assemblies and welded construction.

The 29,000 square-metre manufacturing facility and modern office complex was built on a 32-acre site about a 30-minute drive from the first Sennebogen steel plant in Balatonfüred.

"With this greenfield investment in Hungary, we are not only expanding our capacities to meet the growing demand, but also building reserves for the future," said Managing Director of the site Michael Seiferling, Shareholder Walter Sennebogen, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Walter Sennebogen.

large and heavy components up to about 30 metres long and weighing in at 25 tonnes, the new facility will produce 18,144,000 kg of steel structures per year in its current configuration.

Its warehousing, work preparation and intralogistics are optimized and geared towards the particularly large components and will deliver increased capacity. An investment was also made in modern machine tools and machining centres for mechanical processing as well as flame and laser cutting.

As is the case in all Sennebogen facilities, a holistic design approach was used.

Every step of the production process was considered.

To complement the manufacturing process, an ergonomic welding area to produce welded structures was created, as was a paint shop equipped to the latest standards.

"With the new plant, we are supplementing our previous steel component production capacity in Balatonfüred. The locations are also logistically connected via plant traffic," said Managing Director Michael Seiferling.

Sennebogen’s investment and greenfield approach

supports its growth strategy, while securing its supply chain. The new production facility also created 80 new skill jobs for construction mechanics and welding technology specialists.

According to Walter Sennebogen, the sustainability aspect also played a key role in the design of the new location.

“The plant is equipped with a photovoltaic system with an output of 2.4 megawatts so that it will be energy self-sufficient with the electrical power generated from its PV system,” he said. “The office building is also heated with energy-efficient underfloor heating and the production hall with low-temperature heating via concrete core activation.”

Sennebogen President Constantino Lannes explained the new facility is part of looking “beyond the machine” and meeting customer demand.

“We were thrilled to learn about this investment when it was first decided over 2.5 years ago and today this is going to allow us to continue to meet customer expectation in terms of meeting the market demand,” Lannes said.

DRILLING & FOUNDATIONS FROM CONVENTIONAL TO UNCONVENTIONAL JJA trades its diesel hammer for Junttan piling rig on navy yard project The Broad Street Quay Wall project has been hailed as the new gateway to a reimagined navy yard in Philadelphia.

It is an engineering feat years in the making. When completed, it will include two vehicle lanes in each direction, a two-way elevated bike lane and a scenic pedestrian plaza overlooking the Reserve Basin.

James J. Anderson Construction (JJA) is tackling the rectangular 214-metre-long jobsite. Located just inside the main gate of the navy yard, towering ships anchored in the square-shaped pocket of the Delaware River dwarf most of the construction equipment on site.

The navy yard operated as a United States naval base from 1876 to 1996 so it stands to reason that the underground conditions are as diverse as its history.

From an engineering standpoint, this project was necessary to abate the subsidence of Broad Street due to hydraulic erosion. “ The old seawall was cracked and leaking, allowing water underneath Broad Street,” said JJA’s Chief Engineer Bob Crawford.

“This area undergoes a sixfoot tide, so the water goes up and down in the Reserve Basin six feet twice each day.

The tidal ebb and flow getting through the seawall was undermining the roadway to the extent that they had to shut down a portion of Broad Street.”

The joints in the existing cast-in-place concrete wall – located 6 metres apart – had widened over time.

Every time the tide rolled out, small amounts of soil were removed. JJA has been at work on the project since June 2022.

“There was an existing concrete seawall sitting on a timber deck,” Crawford said. “Our overall scope was first to drive a line of NZ 38 sheet piles to create a new 700-foot steel seawall behind

the existing concrete wall, then remove the old seawall and timber deck on which it sat, and drive 12-inch epoxy-coated piles in front to support a new concrete pedestrian walkway.”

The new steel seawall had to be anchored to a concrete tieback sitting on batter piles.

The tiebacks sit 15 metres behind the seawall and 7.5 cm diameter galvanized tendons go from the steel seawall back to the concrete tieback.

“Once that system and the utilities are all in, we reconstruct the Broad Street roadway, new sidewalk, bike path and pedestrian plaza,” Crawford said.

To construct the concrete tieback anchor, JJA drove 158 pipe piles designed to be 24-metres long and driven on a 2V:1H batter.

During test pile installation, it was determined there were locations on the project where the tieback piles would need to be spliced and driven more than 30 metres to achieve design capacity due to changing soil conditions.

“None of the pipe piles on the project are seated in rock,” Crawford said.

The tension piles derive their capacity from skin friction with only a minor contribution from end bearing for the compression piles.

“We’ve seldom done friction piles so this was an experience to go through the test pile program and all the dynamic analysis iterations with Urban Engineers to determine that the production piles will attain the design capacity,” Crawford said.

JJA’s first Junttan rig S i n c e p re v i o u s w o rk was performed with a crane-mounted hammer, JJA was a first-time customer for Junttan USA. Junttan USA rented JJA a PMx28 pile driving rig with a HHK5S hydraulic impact hammer

to drive the pipe piles in October 2022, while the contractor simultaneously scheduled a rig from another vendor to vibrate in the sheet piles.

When that rig became unavailable due to an emergency project, Junttan USA’s Sales Engineer Matt Eastburn saw an opportunity to expand the role of its rig.

Help from Canada Junttan USA had never rented a rig with a vibro package and leaned on its partners in Canada to supply the equipment to be installed

on the PMx28. The cross-continental partnership paid off. “For the sheet piles, we had the rig equipped with a PTC variable moment hammer, so we had to mount the power pack on the back,” Eastburn said. “We took off the counterweight and essentially used the power pack in its place.”

Junttan USA had Junttan Canada ship the vibro and power pack to the Navy Yard where the PMx28 was waiting. JJA provided crane support on the assembly. The

transition between vibratory and standard pile driving was seamless.

When the time came to drive the 40-cm and 46-cm-diameter piles, the vibro components were removed, and the counterweight and HHK5S hammer were re-installed. Aside from a small portion where a Philadelphia Water Department culvert pokes through the seawall, all pile driving was ultimately completed using the Junttan PMx28.

“We did all the engineering in house,” Eastburn said.

“Junttan USA installed the

vibro kit, which was supplied

by Junttan Canada. They had retrofitted it to a PMx28 they had in stock.”

The most challenging part of the engineering was the stability analysis to ensure that the rig wasn’t going to tip over while holding the 2V:1H batter and the 3,630 kg pile and 10,660 kg hammer.

“With the elimination of a portion of the counterweight, we were able to lay the leader back with a fulllength pile,” Eastburn said.

This allows the cutter to be twisted within a range of -50 to +95 degrees from its normal position to reach every corner in the excavation pit without a problem. The arrangement of the hose drums in the boom is highly streamlined thanks to cutter system, and the 30-tonne winch was specifically designed for use in the mid-sized range. With the maximum hook load of 43

tonnes, the BCS 185 can be equipped with a wide range of Bauer cutters allowing trench widths of up to 1.5 metres. As well, the Bauer cutter system is not subject to crane permit regulations, hence any requirements for the operators are eliminated.

Although Crawford acknowledges the PMx28’s ability to hoist and drive piles without falsework was the main factor for choosing Junttan, the operator’s ability was also factor.

“There’s a learning curve, of course. But once it has been overcome, production reached where it needs to be,” Crawford said.

The narrow site also made using a crane-mounted diesel hammer with leads and bottom falsework prohibitive.

“The crane would have to be positioned to control the top end of the leads where a majority of the pre-driving weight is located,” Crawford said.

“This would then require falsework at the bottom of the pile to maintain orientation and position. After complet-

ing one pile, we’d have to move the entire set up ahead every time. With the Junttan, it’s self-contained. It holds the pile and moves it ahead without expending time to disassemble and reset falsework.”

The sheet piles were driven straight and accurately as well also without the need for alignment falsework. At the completion of driving the steel sheet pile seawall, JJA had to connect a double channel waler to the back of the sheet pile to accept the tieback tendon connections.

The adjustments needed to attain proper bearing for the waler attachment were all less than one inch.

Eastburn added having a single rig offered JJA easier setup, better site access, and less equipment to maintain.

“Our PMx28 setup is transported in three loads, one lowboy for the rig itself and two falloff loads on standard flatbeds for the hammer and counterweights. It requires a little bit of machine support to assemble, but once it’s set up, you can track back and forth to each pile on site,” Eastburn said.

JJA finished its pile driving work with the Junttan setup in July 2023, but continues moving toward the timely completion of the project in December.

Extreme batter piles The key issue for JJA was finding an unconventional way to drive the 24-metrelong piles on an extreme batter that was not labour or material intensive. Although JJA has experience installing batter piles of lesser degrees, 26 degrees was a batter it had never encountered.

This angle was necessary due to the heavy loads such as large trucks and transports that will enter the navy yard.

As the live loads will exert high lateral pressure on the new steel sheet pile seawall, they had to be counteracted by the batter piles in the tieback anchor.

“We’ve done batter piles before, but not quite this extreme,” Crawford said. “At this angle, we would have needed significant anchored

Lanca Contracting Limited is a familyowned and operated business celebrating its 51-year anniversary this year. Nathan Lancaster bought the business from his father, Keith Lancaster in 2008. Keith remains the company’s senior advisor and project manager. They were traditionally a commercial/industrial contractor but in 2016/2017 they diversified adding to their repertoire by entering into the residential market, building mid-rise condos. They average about 6-8 sites at a time, serving Brant County, Haldimand, Norfolk and Oxford County areas in South-Western Ontario. One of Lanca’s largest project sites ‘River Rail Business Park’ is located on Oak Park Road in the county of Brant. This 25-acre plot of land was purchased and subdivided into three parcels; lots A, B and C. Two out of three have been sold with the 10-acre ‘Lot A’ remaining available for sale. Bobcat of Brantford bought one of these parcels and entered into a design-build construction agreement with Lanca, resulting in their new state-of-the-art, 25,000 sq. ft. home on four acres of land.

National Pile Croppers releases new Quad XXL The latest development from National Pile Croppers is a new version of the company’s Quad XXL cropper, which is proving to be an essential tool on the HS2 rail project in the United Kingdom.

NPC croppers found a niche on HS2 where a variety of contractors and civil engineering companies have successfully used the Quad XXL. However, the rail project allowed NPC to further develop its XXL cropper.

With a project as big and as demanding as HS2, there has arisen a requirement for larger more powerful pile croppers.

“As we always work closely with our customers to ensure that they are getting the very best in hydraulic pile cropping, we soon identified a need for an even larger cropper,” said NPC Director Lee Aston.

The collaboration onsite led directly to the development of the new Quad XXL. “We have a well-proven and existing range of Quad croppers that cover virtually any requirement, with our Quad XL 1000 cropper for one being designed to be used for the reduction of augured (round) piles up to 1050 mm in diameter,” Lee said. “As with the entire Quad range, it utilizes four powerful and fully synchronized rams with specially designed blades to give a superb pile cut.”

As well, the cropper holds the cut pile

section safely for removal to a designated safe area. Utilized on piles with de-bonded reinforcement bars, it has proved to be the ideal solution when reducing contiguous and secant piled walls with spacing as close as 150 mm.

“However, on some parts of HS2 the Quad XL, although effective, needed to be super-sized to make it even more productive,” Aston said.

According to NPC, the new Quad XXL is a “true cropping behemoth” being designed and developed to deal with piles of between 900 and 1200 metres in size.

Weighing in at 3,675 kg, it is best used on an excavator of at least 31 tonnes in weight.

“Although big, the new Quad XXL is still easy to use, and our experienced support staff are at hand from the initial order to the installation on site to make sure that customers get what they pay for,” Aston said.

Operation of the new Quad XXL is simple, with the cropper being lowered to the ideal height. The jaws are then closed until pile sections pop free.

The broken pile section then can be easily removed for recycling to a dumper or a specified area.

“The feedback we’ve received has been beyond our expectations,” Aston said. “Our customers seem to want more and more of the Quad XXL as the targets and deadlines shorten on HS2. Despite its size and power, the new Quad XXL is as efficient as the other members of the Quad range, delivering an effective solution wherever it has been used.”

The new Quad XXL from National Pile Croppers is now available in the UK and will be introduced globally in the coming months.

CZM Introduces new LR95 long reach drill rig CZM Foundation Equipment recently introduced the LR95, the latest addition to the company’s long reach series of machines.

The long reach series is a unique CZM design that brings the high performance of CZM’s EK line to a boom mounted set up with increased reach. The LR95 is the longest reach drill rig of its class on the market.

The LR95 is mounted on a Caterpillar 330 next generation excavator base. This machine is powered by a Cat C7.1 Tier 4 Final engine that delivers 273 horsepower and more than 105,000-foot pounds of torque.

As well, the LR95 features a maximum drilling diameter of 3.35 metres, a standard drilling depth of 16.2 metres, a main winch pull line of 12,300 kg with two gears for high speed and pulling force, and an operation weight of 44 tonnes.

The rotary offers three operation and spinoff speeds as well as automatic gear shifting.

This model has a maximum reach of 3.83 metres and is ideal for drilling utility work, transmission and distribution, substation work and limited access jobs.

The long reach machines are equipped with a specially designed boom with two

lift cylinders allowing for a higher torque and crowd force to be applied to the tool.

Interlocking Kelly bars make it efficient to drill in rock and hard soil. Furthermore, round friction bars are also available for high production in softer soils.

The LR95 drill rig can be transported in one load, with the Kelly bar on and can be set up easily without the need for support equipment.

Like all CZM models, the LR95 comes equipped with real-time telematics which allows for remote monitoring and adjusting of drilling parameters, diagnostics, maintenance and troubleshooting. All CZM models come equipped with a host of next gen drilling features such as touchscreen display, auto drill, auto mast level, auto crowd and return to centre.

The control system includes a touchscreen display that provides information on torque and rotary speeds, drilling depth, mast inclination X/Y axis, main winch pulling force and crowd force.

The LR95 is also available with a lighting package, refuelling pump, a cold weather startup package, fine filtration system as well as tool and O ring kits.

By Jordan Parker For three generations, Inland Iron & Metal has been innovating in the metal recycling business, and they show no signs of slowing down.

The company has been run by the Scott family since 1962, and they’ve worked together to build an empire.

“I went to my Business Management class in university, and the first thing the professor said was never to go into business with family,” laughed owner-operator William Scott.

“But this family – We have something special. We don’t even think about things like that. We are one unit pulling in the same direction, and we’re all team players.”

That commitment to each other extends to their customers as well and serving them properly is topof-mind.

“Some companies that grow become more corporate. The biggest thing for us is we’re so hands-on.

We are there for the day-to-day and have our boots on the ground.

You don’t have to run through four channels to get answers,” said brother and fellow owner-operator Brandon Scott. “If a bin is necessary on a long-weekend Friday or holiday Monday, I jump in the truck and so do my brothers. We always do what needs to be done, and you can’t compete with that.”

jerseys and games. We’re also involved with Georgina Cares to help underprivileged kids, donate to the women’s shelter and more. We do our part. We’ve been here over 60 years, and people know what we are and what we do. Giving back is a no-brainer,” Brandon said.

For Inland, the logical next step is expansion, and finding land zoned for the work they do.

“We’re actively looking. With this core set-up, if we add a yard every year or two years, we want to keep the same level of service and grow volume. It’s about how much material we can move. It’s important to continue to take care of the community too,” he said.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s rewarding here. We’re a pretty happy company, and it’s an honest living.

Everyone is pretty on-board.”

Pictured here in 1962 is a new Caterpillar 977 crawler loader owned by A. Cope & Sons, a contractor based in Hamilton and Sarnia, Ontario.

This 977 was equipped with a ripper and side-dump bucket. It was the ideal machine for this road contract. It could rip tough material and with the side-dump bucket, it could load the single-axle dump trucks faster and reduce wear on the undercarriage of the crawler loader.

The Trackson Company, as early as the 1930s, manufactured attachments for Caterpillar crawlers with cable and later on with hydraulic

bucket loaders. “Traxcavator” was the name when Caterpillar purchased the Trackson Company in the 1950s. The name stayed until the new series of crawler loaders, the 933, 955 and the 977, were introduced in 1955. The 977H Series crawler loader pictured here would have an 1.8 cubic metre side-dump bucket and 110kW rated engine.

Cope & Sons had been around since the 1900s in the industrial sector in Sarnia, Ontario, focusing on the refinery business. They also bid on highway contracts in the 1930s such as the QEW and up to the 1970s High-

way 402. Today, it is named Cope Construction and still doing refinery upgrades and infrastructure contracts throughout Lambton County and beyond.

Rototilt launches a new generation of tool attachment frames To improve flexibility and the ability to accommodate more work tools, Rototilt has developed a new generation of tool attachment frames.

The launch includes four new frames in 41 new variations covering standard configuration, QuickChange and the demolition segment.

The tool attachment frame is the link between a work tool and the excavator’s machine coupler or tiltrotator and is key to making the entire chain work. Rototilt’s new generation will be able to match the majority of hole patterns on the market.

“Although the tool attachment frame is somewhat hidden away in the tiltrotator system, it is key to making the entire system work,”

said Jörgen Bergfors, Rototilt Product Specialist. “For users of QuickChange in particular, it is important for us to create a durable and flexible solution.

We have really listened, and this investment is enabling us to meet the need for significantly more work tools and areas of use. The attachment frames for certain tools will also offer a 6-degree compensation to work optimally below our tiltrotator.”

As well as providing a wider range for end users, the new generation offers new benefits for Rototilt dealers. This is achieved, in part, by the new tool attachment frames having the same basic design in both the standard configuration and with QuickChange.

“Our dealers will be able to stock fewer basic models and still easily create multiple different variants,” Bergfors said.

In addition to tool attachment frames for service tools, Rototilt has developed more variants for heavy work, which are especially useful in demolition. These include a version without a base plate, which can potentially be welded directly onto heavy work tools.

“With our fully automatic quick coupling system QuickChange, the excavator operator is able to detach and attach the tiltrotator very quickly, as well as switch to heavy tools such as hammers and sorting grapples. The weldable tool attachment frame will generate considerable benefits

for our users in the demolition segment,” Bergfors said.

As tool attachment frames are connected to the Open-S standard, end users can also combine Rototilt tool attachment frames with machine couplers and tiltrotators that use the same standard.

This makes it possible for work tool manufacturers to prepare their products for QuickChange.

“This is good news for anyone who uses couplers, work tools or tiltrotators within Open-S,” Bergfors said. “Other manufacturers of work tools, for example for the demolition sector, will also be able to offer this as a package to their customers.”

The new generation of tool attachment frames are scheduled to launch this fall.

FAE introduces new road planer for excavators FAE is expanding its construction attachment line with the RPL/EX road planer for excavators.

The new attachment is based on cold planer technology. Using the cold planer method, the road's surface is scraped and cut by the impact of special teeth attached to the rotor.

The RPL/EX has a specially designed layout to increase performance and reduce vibration. With these features,

the RPL/EX is an ideal tool to prepare roads for resurfacing or to simplify excavation operations.

FAE’s RPL/EX road planer is compatible with excavators from 8 to 14 tons and requires a hydraulic flow rate of 90 to 150 litres per minute. The attachment is able to mill up to 13.5 cm deep, and has a width of 45 cm.

The head comes standard with state-of-the-art technological and structural

features. This includes an adjustable hydraulic base that allows the operator to manage the machine’s working depth with precision.

As well, a wide-stroke self-levelling system allows the operator to keep the head properly aligned while in operation, and an adjustable right skid keeps the head aligned in overlaps.

The road planer also has specially designed teeth for use on asphalt and concrete

road surfaces.

Felco roller compaction buckets arrive in Canada Felco roller compaction buckets are now available in Canada from MGM Attachments.

The compaction roller buckets combine the performance of Felco’s wheel compactor w ith an excavator bucket shell. The combination allows an ex-

cavator operator to backfill open trenches and compact them using only one attachment.

This eliminates the transition time switching between a bucket and stand-alone wheel compactor, saving significant time on long pipe jobs.

Excavator operators can lay more uniform compaction lifts with a more than a 90 per cent compaction rate in most soil types. Using the compactor requires simply grabbing and laying out your lift, curling the bucket and compacting.

The larger roller compac-

tion buckets feature Felco’s sealed journal bearing system that does not require daily maintenance.

The smaller mini excavator roller compaction buckets have conventional flange type bearings to reduce the weight and cost of the tool.

Volvo Trucks appoints Matthew Blackman as Regional VP for Canada Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has appointed Matthew Blackman as its new Regional Vice President of Canada, effective October 1.

In this role, Blackman will report directly to Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America. Black-

man succeeds Paul Kudla, who served as Managing Director of Canada and is retiring at the end of the year, following 24 years of service with Volvo Trucks and 11 years at Mack Trucks.
