MR AREA CHAIRMAN’S FEEDBACK Fellow Tablers and Ladies

With the end of the year just around the corner we are still facing a lot of uncertainty with Covid-19. The lockdown might have been lifted, but unfortunately the numbers are on the rise in the Eastern Cape with PE being one of the hotspots. Members have been affected by Covid-19, directly or indirectly with family or friends testing positive. This is just adding to the year we have faced so far and all the good that we done under these circumstances. I think as RTSA we can be very proud of each Table and Tabler for what we have done throughout the year. It goes to show that we all have passion for what we do and especially helping people that cannot help themselves. I really think that the EP Tables have outdone themselves this year with all the projects and fund raisers held. These projects were held in the most difficult times and I can’t think of one project that was not successful. Hats off to each and every Tabler and Table Lady that made this possible. For the year I have completed almost all of my Chairman visits with just the one special visit left to Somerset East 113. We were able to have the Spring Conference hosted by Algoa 108 and I travelled to KZN for their Tri-Area and to George to attend 3rd ASSCO. Our Spring Conference was one of the best attended EP Conferences that I can recall in a long time. All Tables were represented for the day with a lot of peanut gallery members and 41ers in attendance. We were privileged to have some of the National Exec members in attendance and other out of Area visitors. I would like to mention a few of the guests: • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Christo Bezuidenhout – RTSA President Stefan Grobler – RTSA Vice President Alan Malan – IPP and EP PAC David Costine – ARTSA 2021 convenor Ryan Baisley – Border PAC and IRO 2021 candidate Gerhard van den Berg – Gauteng AC/IRO 2021 candidate Leon de Lange – Bushveld AC Ernst du Plessis – Border AC Cameron Day – NNCA AC Kevin Boonzaaier – NNCA PAC Fabrizio Altichiero – Past President and EP PAC Appart from all the big names mentioned already we had the following Past Area Chairman (PAC) from Eastern Province in attendance: Eugene Catherine 41er; Marinus Rautenbach 41er; Wayne Stevenson; Jannie Katakouzinos and Ernest Pretorius.

With the names mentioned one would know that the meeting was going to be held under a lot of pressure, but it was totally different. Even the sergeant had to look for certain excuses to take part in the meeting. The meeting was structured and all the necessary points were discussed and business was dealt with in a professional manner from all members in attendance.

3

It was also a special day for 4 new members that joined the EP Area. Kallie Steenkamp, Schalk Rossouw, David Allen and Carl Olivier were inducted by our National President Christo Bezuidenhout. There was also an inspiring special family moment when Carl Olivier received his member pin from his father Marius Olivier who is a 41er at the same Table that he joined. We hope that you will enjoy Table and all the best for the years ahead. The weekend after our Spring Conference we were a party of 9 Tablers travelling to Mtinzini for the KZN Tri Area. This was a great weekend and a special weekend for EP and NNCA to strengthen the twinning agreement between the two Areas. I would like to thank Marinus, Simon, Bhavesh, Paul (all 108) Cornel, Ernest, Neef (all 142) and our Border baby Ryan Baisley from EL 1 for joining me on the trip. It is moments like this that make our Table years’ worthwhile. I would like to challenge every Table in the EP Area to at least send one member per year to join the Area Chairman with his visit to KZN. And my challenge to the members is to try and attend at least one KZN Tri Area in your Table years. For my Table visits I was able to attend meetings at Alex/Kenton 210 (15-09-2020), Algoa 108 (3009-2020), Grahamstown 11 (07-10-2020), Jbay/Humansdorp 252 (04-11-2020) and Zwartkops 195 since my last report. At my visit to Alex/Kenton 210 I learnt a valuable lesson again in Table. The history and traditions that they have in the clubhouse is exceptional and that is why it is very important for any club to keep their clubhouse going for ever. This is where the 41ers before us made it possible for us to Table the way we do today. They also had a few guests in attendance, thanks to Past Area Chairman Pierre van Rensburg who brought them to the meeting. The Algoa 108 meeting was definitely the longest business meeting that I have attended in a long time. The length of the meeting was helped a little bit by the raiding Tables and their input at certain points. However, the Table is doing well and they have a few projects lined up.

4

Grahamstown 11 meeting was held at their clubhouse and again we had some Tables rading the evening. Membership is looking good at the Table with the new members inducted at CVC. Some of the day to day business matters were addressed and plans put in place to make sure everything is in place for future. There were a couple of 41ers present the evening and it was good to hear the stories of how they Tabled back in the day. One thing is certain, the passion for giving back to the community can still be heard when they tell their stories. On 4 November, I had to rush through for a visit to JBay/Humansdorp 252. Not only did they ask me to be there early, they also went through the meeting swift and to the point. Again, it showed me that some meetings can be done quicker than others all depending on the circumstances of the meeting. The real reason for this quick meeting was that they had to play night cricket that started at 8pm. I was also picked for the side and what great fun it was. The next day my body reminded me that I have not played cricket for many years. My visit to Zwartkops 195 was well attended with 5 Tables raiding the meeting. The members of Zwartkops 195 are on a high and they have a few pipe liners attending their meetings and socials. After the reshuffle of members and portfolios everybody is more focused on what they need to do and I think 195 will only be stronger going forward. What made this visit special is the long awaited “Zwartkops 195 Crab that was handed over to me by Carl Olivier. A new Tabler that with the help of his dad Marius are bring back some of the great Zwartkops 195 traditions. I was invited to the Adelaide Vlakvark 500. This was my first time attending this project. While staying at Nico I experienced first hand how much work they do before they can start with the project. They plan everything to perfection for everybody to enjoy. The teams that take place in this also have great spirit and make it fun for everybody over the weekend. The project was well attended and I think it was sold out for next year. Not even the 20km walked in the mountains during the day will put me off to attend it again next year. Luckily my name is already on the list. The Kirkwood 78 golfers also attended the Algoa 108 golf day. The golf day was actually held the day after my JBay/Humansdorp 252 visit. With the rain during the day it cooled of the day and might have scared away some golfers. We enjoyed the day and it was well organized by the Algoa 108 members.

5

Myself and Vlooi attended 3rd ASSCO in George. The road trip was a bit different because the rest of the touring party (Alan and Marinus) went through on their own. The weekend was well organized by George 30 with everybody of ASSCO staying at the same place. They even had a shuttle from the accommodation to the venue where everything took place. It was great to see the rest of the ASSCO building friendships. The fellowship over the weekend was great, on the Saturday, we had a very constructive meeting. I am glad to report that RTSA is doing very well in all the Areas. There was some day to day admin that needed attention and it was resolved in the meeting. It was a privilege for me to represent the best Area and stand for what we believe in. It is truly a honour to be the Area Chairman of a great Area like EP Area. The ladies and kids enjoyed a fun filled day on the ladies’ tour and even had the opportunity to take the kids to the beach for the afternoon. I know that we are facing the same uncertain times that we have faced throughout the year with Covid-19. More and more of our members are affected by Covid-19, whether it is a family member or a Tabler himself. All we can do is to try and stay safe where we can. If you are running projects make sure all protocols are adhered to for the safety of yourself and that of the public. Be safe over the next couple of months and for those going away in December travel safe and enjoy the family time. YIT Johan Cheetah Bruwer EP Area Chairman. 2020/21

As Tablers we should remember that we are mere custodians of Round Table for the time we are actively involved in our Table years. What we create is what Round Table will become. It is up to us to drive #impactfulchange and make sure that we leave behind a legacy that our children can be part of one day. Johan Cheetah Bruwer 2020

E.P AREA VICE CHAIRMAN

Vice chairman- Feedback I cannot believe how quickly this year is flying past. It feels like Duncan Gnome asks for reports every second week as if the Trunk Tales has developed into a fortnightly magazine. On the membership side, we have started the year with 84 members and have since inducted 10 new members with only one resignation, totalling 93 members as at today. Unfortunately, we will bid farewell to 13 golden oldies who will be joining the ranks of the 41’ers club, leaving our area with a negative growth of 4 members. I believe that we will end the year strong with at least a breakeven in membership numbers. On that note, I was disappointed with response of the delegates at our Spring Conference when I raised the questions who took the time to 1) peruse the membership guideline I issued earlier this year and 2) who have implemented same or parts thereof. None of the delegates in attendance had

any reply herein which bears the question, why not? Is membership not a priority to the clubs in our area? Is membership considered an area exec issue? Please remember that the membership in your club is the responsibility of all the members, not only the Chairman and Vice-Chairman. It is however the Vice-Chairman’s responsibility to ensure that membership is addressed in each club and that conscious efforts are made to retain and grow membership. Kindly keep this in mind when electing your club’s Vice-Chairman next year as your club will require a leader who will attend hereto.

On a positive note, I am very impressed that the COVID pandemic has changed the dynamic of table and most of the tables within our area have matured 20 years due to the limitations imposed by the lockdown and subsequent restraints. This forced tables to think outside the box and come up with new ideas to raise community funds. Tables have also learned to work smarter and not harder. Although these might sound like old quotes, never before has this been more true in table. Seeing that we were not allowed to do golf days, steak evenings and cabarets our area broke the mould. Suddenly, raffles made more money than a golf day, with a quarter of the man-hours. Adelaide 194 started a cookbook and sold hundreds. Algoa 108’s Heritage Day project sold more braai packs than all the Spar’s combined and even had Jan Braai frown, to name a few. In EP fellowship will never be taken for granted again. We had excellent attendance at our CVC weekend and Spring Conference and even Joe Tabler who only visits one table meeting every second month made an appearance and eventually closed the bar early Saturday morning. Area Chairman raids are now mini area conferences with clubhouses bursting at their seams with attendees. So in short, the gees is phenomenal. 8

I have also recently attended the Shadow Assco meeting in Bloemfontein. My predecessors told me that this will be a weekend to remember, but damn did I underestimate them? The meeting was conducted professionally and efficiently by our President elect and the Sergeant assured that all remained in order. I will still issue formal feedback regarding this weekend, but rest assured that our organisation is in great hands with Stefan at the wheel next year. We had awesome fellowship and I met some interesting, funny, and bat sh!t crazy gentleman who I look forward to working with in 2021. It was a great honour to represent our area at the meeting and can say with confidence that EP Area is an area to be reckoned with in South Africa and it is all thanks and every one of the 93 brilliant members in our area. Thank you gents for all the hard work you are doing and the impactful change you are bringing to our communities. Our great work often goes unnoticed, but bear in mind the lives you have changed during your table career. It might seem small to you, but there are people out there who’s lives will never be the same after what you have done for them. Thank you Mr Chairman for your leadership and guidance. I always say you have chosen a less than favourable year, but I cannot think of anyone more suited to lead our area through a year like this. To my fellow exec members, thank you for all your hard work and diligence, making our area a serious force to be reckoned with. Yours in table, Cornel Strydom PE West 142 Vice Chairman – Eastern Province EP Area VC out! YIT Cornel Strydom Area Vice Chairman PE West 142

E.P AREA TREASURER

Greetings fellow Tablers. I can hardly believe we are already in December! And without it sounding too much like a cliché, WOW! What a year it has been. Even though it has been a strange year, for our family it has been a very special year, that has now literally flown by. With November being a thing of the past, our little boy (our sunshine, smiley, busy, sleep stealing boy) is already 10 months old. It has also dawned on us, that our first-born is starting Grade 1 next year, we don’t know if we must be excited or terrified… Once again, I can confirm with a heart full of pride, that Round Table in the Eastern Province is strong, healthy and actively involved in creating #impactfulchange in our communities. Well done to all the Tables and every Tabler in our Area, you really have been doing good work during this year. The last couple of months started feeling like the Round Table experience we all are accustomed to. Thank you to Algoa 108 for hosting a great Spring Conference, even though I could only attend the meeting on the Saturday, the photos that were shared are testament to the wonderful fellowship that was had. Well done to the organising committee! I was also lucky enough to accompany our Area Chairman to my first raid of the year, when he had his Chairman’s visit to Zwartkops 195. This almost felt like a mini Area Conference and it clearly shows how hungry our Tablers are for some decent fellowship. Kirkwood 78 entered a team in the Algoa 108 golfday at Wedgewood, and it was fun getting out and playing on the beautiful course, even if some of it was in the rain! I hope you all have a good December, and that those that need to still catch up some work, get to do that. And those that need a good rest, may you also get to do that. May you all have a blessed Christmas time with family or friends and hopefully by the time we start our Induction circuit end of January, we as a Country are over the worst part of Covid-19. Yours in Table, Francois Calitz

E.P AREA SECRETARY

E.P Area Secretary Good day fellow Tabler’s, hope you all are doing well? Firstly, I want to congratulate all Tabler’s still going very strong in very difficult times and somehow still manage to pull off amazing projects and to keep their Table’s together. Feedback from secretary, thank you to everyone sending their minutes in to me, there is a couple of bad apples, but I still appreciate your effort that gets put in to these minutes and getting it in each and every month. At this stage, you all would have received the Spring Conference Area minutes; I have put a lot of work into these and really do hope you all get the chance to read through them. As Johan says, if there are any questions, please pick up the phone and ask me, we are always here to help. I have to compliment PA 177, JBAY 252, GHT 11, CRADOCK 37, Kirkwood 78 and Somerset East 113 for always being punctual and great sets of minutes and well set out. From my side, I finally have to work again and not work for Round Table, so I am not always available to assist immediately, and area minutes taking a little bit longer than usual, but these do get out timeously. I am also working on our EP Constitution and trying to sort out the wording and new amendments with Alan, and will hopefully get this done before the AGM. I am compiling all your minutes, to send through at the end of the year to Cory Library, because this will basically be the last year we would do so. Stefan did speak about this, at our Spring Con for Tabler World, we all need to get acquainted with this that we can start uploading our minutes and do our agendas etc. from there, it would make our lives easier and we would have everything on record to fall back onto. Then, I would like to just say, well done Mr. Area Chairman on a phenomenal year, staying positive for all of us even though you are experiencing a difficult year yourself. You are a true leader and you inspire us to table and live Table each and every day of our life. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and we will see you all soon at the Induction dinners. Yours in Table Wayne Stevenson

BUFFALO!! BUFFALO!! South Cape Area - The Original Buffalo Zone đ&#x;?ƒ It is believed that the origin of the legendary buffalo stems from the Wild West, where it was vital to have your pistol hand at the ready at all times. It was crucial not to drink with the hand you normally shoot with, giving birth to the rule of drinking with your non-dominant hand. The rule based on a life or death principle was instilled for life. During the Gold Rush era, famous pioneer & legend among men, Chris Jones, perfected the buffalo rule as a drinking game & used it to his advantage by intoxicating rival prospectors & stealing their gold. The rules of the Buffalo Club adopted by Round Table states that you must drink with your left hand (98% of people are right-handed), giving left-handed Tablers quite the advantage. In 1992 South Cape Area Chairmen, Ola Grinaker (92/93) & Trevor Griffin (95/96) introduced the Buffalo Club to Round Table Southern Africa at ARTSA 92 held in Port Elizabeth. As a pilot run, a 1000 pins were made with some 800 being sold in two days at the South African assembly. The official & iconic gold pins feature the Cape buffalo by design, either a full-body buffalo or a buffalo head pin. Since the introduction, Round Table South Cape Area has been the sole custodian of the Buffalo Club both nationally & internationally (RTI). Rikus "Running Bare" Badenhorst, past RTI President, played an instrumental role in promoting & implementing the Buffalo Club as an international movement. Badenhorst also ensured that the Club is synonymous with Southern Africa & more specifically the South Cape Area. The next time you hear the words "Buffalo!" when a member drinks with their right hand, take a minute to appreciate the origin of this beloved Round Table tradition. Chairman’s Feedback Round Table Grahamstown 11 Report - November The year is still 2020, and Round Table Grahamstown 11 can hold their heads high, in my opinion! We have had an engaging and impactful past 2 months, in respect to our communities and each other’s lives. Last month saw us host our annual Round Table Grahamstown 11 Golf Day, held at the Belmont Golf Club on the 17th October, 2020. The convener for our Golf Day project, and my secretary, Elrico de Bruyn is deserving of a very large amount of credit, and thanks! Not only did he manage and run the largest project for our Table for the year, having never even sat on a Golf Day committee previously, he did so with humility and in keeping with the highest professional ideals. Ryno van Rooyen also needs to be thanked deeply for all his effort in engaging with prize sponsors and donations. On the day, the rest of the Table and partners all climbed in, and a huge success was made of it! We raised very nearly as much as we did in the previous year, which is an incredible achievement under the current economic climate and a credit to our community who rallied behind us. I am extremely proud of my Table, and the community I am a part of! A report on the day is available in this edition of Trunk Tales, but it would be remiss of me not thank all our sponsors and everyone who made the day a success as well! Your contributions of time, energy, prizes, and sponsorships will go a long way to meeting our community’s needs! On the social front and business meeting’s side, things have returned to a pre-pandemic state, with masks and distance included. Council and business meetings have all been held in the outside braai area of the Round Table Grahamstown 11 clubhouse, to try and keep each other safe while still getting down to the business of Round Table. Our Area Chairman’s visit was a particularly enjoyable meeting, and Johan “Cheetah” Bruwer is thanked for joining us! The meeting also saw some 41’ers from many years gone by join us, which was most appreciated. We also need to thank the chairman Nico Schneider and the fine men of Adelaide 194 for their hospitality and having us raid their October business meeting! Attending the Spring Conference hosted by Algoa 108 was also a treat, and well worth the trip for some very decent and much needed fellowship!

Grahamstown 11 unfortunately had to say our official goodbye to Jonathan Bellingan, a valued member of our Table who contributed enormously to meeting the Aims and Objectives of our great organization. He has transferred to Umhlanga 155, and we as Round Table Grahamstown 11 hope and trust he will make the #impactfulchange there, that he made whilst with us! I see and envisage Round Table Grahamstown 11 going from strength to strength on the back of our Golf Day, with another few projects up our sleeve that have the potential to see us making a big difference to people’s lives in this difficult year! Yours in Table, Terence Bellingan, Chairman 2020/21

Chairman's Feedback First I want to congratulate Gnome (Duncan) for doing such a wonderful job, it is always pleasant to read the trunktales buddy keep up the good work. Cradock 37 is currently 8 members strong with two gentleman joining the 41’ers ranks at the end of the year (Cobus Ferreira & Harland Willard). Two awesome gents that we are gonna lose but they will not be lost maybe just grey. There is a few young gentleman that we identified who would be great potential future tablers, we still need to invite them to meetings so that they can see what Round Table is all about.

Our last project the Steak-Drive Through was a huge success and it will be back by popular demand. Steak-Drive Thru ‫ װ‬will be on the 6th of November and we hope to achieve more success. On the socials side, we had a poker evening on Friday 30 November at our clubhouse. The fellowship was good and we had an awesome night with cigars and cards. I hope we can raid a couple of tables in November and we will be having our annual Christmas dinner on the 11th of December at Buffelshoek Game logde. On conclusion I just want to congratulate Algoa 108 for hosting an awesome Spring Conference well done gents you were great. As always JCB you held a great meeting mr boss man. That’s it from Cradock 37 please gents lets stay safe and wees lekker met ander mense. YIT John “Celeb” Tom Chairman 2020/21

MY JOURNEY TO BECOMING A TABLER

I am Rudi Britz, currently 31 and a tabler at Cradock 37. I am married to a beautiful wife and blessed with 2 wonderful naughty boys. I am an Manager at the local Abattoir and my wife is the Gr3 teacher at the Preparatory School in town. I am a family man that loves working with my hands in my spare time and being out and about in the sun. I was approached to join table by Cobus Ferreira and immediately grabbed the opportunity to get involved. I have a passion for helping others and quickly learned that our table is not just about helping others, but also helping each other. Table quickly teaches you life skills and helps you grow in confidence and other social aspects. Family always comes first. From the first fundraiser and our eventful first raid, together with all that we have done, it is set in stone, that table is what all young men need, we are not just a group of humble young gentleman, but a brotherhood that has bonded for life. Chairman’s feedback Good day, to think that the year is almost at an end. Even with lockdown keeping most people at home for a while, there is so much that we did. On 4th of September we had our burger day. Fires were lit early morning and fresh baked buns were delivered. The men stood their ground behind the braai grids and the ladies prepared buns with garnish. People started to collect their orders, and some were delivered. At the end of the day we prepared 503 burgers. This was one of first projects where we could be together as a team again and we had great fellowship. Our raffle time closed, the lucky draw at our business meeting and broadcasted it live on Facebook. Thank you to each one who did purchase a raffle and congratulations to the winners. We hosted pint-for-a-pint together with the SANBS and Tops. In total we had 49 units donated and 11 people turned away that could not donate on the day. Again, thank you Tops for sponsoring the beer, the people for donating blood and SANBS for the friendly staff. Some projects to come, is Christmas shoot where we will be doing the cratering and run a bar. Valleihof braai, we will be braaiing for the old age people. The Ladies are also running their annual Santa shoe box project.

25

How glad are we that we can socialize again? Our socials and fellowship have been well attended. Again, we did not sit on our hands with membership, Carlo Botes Indicated at our last meeting that he will be joining table and paperwork has been dealt with. Welcome Carlo, you already shown great initiative and we wish you luck with your journey. George 26 visited us for our annually twinning arrangement. 3 of their tablers visited us. Friday evening we had a juice steak and fellowship at Sarel’s house. Saturday we took them to Sundays River for some skiing. Not many people were very keen. Wonder if Friday night had anything to do with it? Saturday night, Ryno made his famous ribs. Thank you, George and all role players, for a great weekend of fellowship. Kirkwood attended the Spring conference in good numbers. Luckily the sergeant were from Kirkwood and brought some proper “muty” to keep everyone in their place. Even delegates from national behaved very well. Yours in table #impactfullchange Louis De Bruin (Springkaan)

Cycling for the Greater Good Regardt vd Merwe and Johan Oosthuizen decided to ride a 500km MTB trip just to do it for fun but then decided to make it a charity ride for Round Table Kirkwood 78. It’s definitely my biggest ride on my MTB non stop with no sleep over anywhere. Our aim was to make it back to Kirkwood within 48 hours. We left Kirkwood on Friday morning 07:30 21 Aug and arrived back in Kirkwood Saturday afternoon 16:30. We completed the ride in 33 hours. We left Kirkwood and our first stop was in Steytlerville, we had some lunch there at the Royal Hotel. We left Steytlerville on our way to Willowmore. We arrived in Willowmore at around 9pm and had some lekker dinner there (pizza and slap chips). We left Willowmore at around 11pm back to Steytlerville. We arrived back in in Steytlerville at around 4am( with degrees of 2) We rested there for a little while where other riders joined us for the rest of the trip back to Kirkwood. From Steytlerville we went to Jansenville where we had had some boereworsrolls. We arrived in Jansenville at around 11:30am where we had 120km left to finish the ride of 500km. We left Jansenville at 12:30 and we had in mind is to just put our heads down and ride to Kirkwood. We arrived in Kirkwood 16:30 where our own table members was waiting for us. We did it in 33 hours the 500km. YIT Regard Van Der Merwe

Chairman Feedback Round Table Algoa 108 have started to get back into routine having in person meetings and running projects for both ourselves and the community. With the Country Lockdown level restrictions being eased, we find ourselves adapting to the “new normal”. After a successful Mandela Braai Day project, Round table Algoa108 was able to donate R2000 worth of food to each of the three (3) beneficiaries namely, Twinkle Twinkle home in Bethalsdorp, Quadriplegic Association of Eastern Cape and Margret’s Soup Kitchen. Ladies month, August. Members of Round Table Algoa108 decided to treat the legs of our table. While we were busy with our project meeting, the sergeant ensured the ladies were never left thirsty. With a cheese and cracker platter, bottle of champagne and a beautiful sunset, the ladies were happy. Month of September, we ran another braai project taking advantage of the National Braai Day public holiday. Not changing a thing from the previous time, Round Table Algoa108 sold 450 braai packs and 88 bags of wood with a project total profit of R12 000.00. Thank you to our EP Area chairman for visiting our project on the day as well as our 41ers, Marinus and Simon.

29

Round Table Agoa108 had the pleasure to host the Eastern Province Spring Conference during October 2020. Being the first conference to take place this year in person, delegates from all over the country attended i.e. EP Area, ARTSA, out of Area delegates were entertained all weekend. Weekend after the EP Spring Conference, 4 delegates from Algoa108 (Marinus, Simon, Paul and Bhavesh), accompanied the EP Area Chairman to KZN Tri Area. No words can describe the experience and memories made, and all tablers must make an effort to at least attend one KZN Tri Area. Upcoming projects for Round Table Algoa108 is our annual Golf Day in November, Farewell 2020 Braai pack project in December, Jam Jar Rally in March 2021. Chairman’s Feedback Somerset Oos 113 Members: 5 Socials: We have a great dynamic in our table. We are a small table but everyone works well together. Members: We have been struggling to get new members, but we are working hard to rectify this. Projects: We started a new project with Somerset Oos pos duif klub and BKB where we held an auction and ribs and chips dinner. The evening went extremely well and we were able to donate R43200 in total. R21600 was donated to Helpende hande in Somerset East and R21600 was donated to Kompas (church project where they help leaders of today to become good leaders of tomorrow). The fellowship that night was amazing. Everyone pitched in and helped. Because it was the first project we did after the long lockdown it was nice to see everyone coming together to support the community of Sommerset East. After the Covid lockdown we all had cabin fever and we made a plan to get together and just catch up on all the happenings. We’ve had a few socials and it brought lekker gees to 113. We are working hard to get new members and have invited a few people to join us at a meeting so that they can see what Round table is about and then to become pipeliners. We also welcomed Stefan #2 into the world Johann Stoffel du Plessis. Stefan’s new born son. JC got married so we lost another friend to the lord of the ring. Otherwise we as 113 are looking forward to what next year will bring hopefully without covid. YIT Paul Zwiegers Chairman 2020/21

Chairman Update – PE West 142 Since the last feedback given PE West 142 is proud to have Inducted 2 new members namely Callie “van die Baai” Steenkamp & Schalk Rossouw. Both of these gentleman have loads of potential and PE West 142 is excited of what both of them will be bringing to the table in the future. These inductions now bring our membership to 9 members. We also have a healthy visitor list and confident that we will be inducting another pipe-liner soon. Unfortunately we will be losing 1 member to the 41er club namely Riaan JVR. He will be sadly missed.

On the project front we did a handover of all our clothes collected from Winter Knights to the Greenbushes Camp of Hope Settlement. We also did a special Women’s Month handover at Kabega Park police Station where we gave each police lady a Cupcake & Rose as an appreciation for their service to the community. We also did another instalment of our Soup Kitchen feed in Bethelsdorp (Astra Primary School) in partnership with 4ourkidspe, where we fed just over 100 kids. On the future project side we are excited to have a few projects left this year. Our current project is called JOY JARS where we ask public, family & friends to buy & donate a Jar filled with sweets for only R80. This sweety jar will then be given to a child on or before Christmas day. This project already has taken off better than we could imagine with us selling over 200 jars to date… We also have an exciting Potjie Competition happening at Londt park on the 5th December. We are also wanting to do a Blood drive similar to what Kirkwood has done with a Pint for a Pint. We are just waiting for our clubhouse to be finalised so we can get a date organised with SANBS. Then last but not least we will be doing our annual Red Speedo Day which is our awareness campaign for Prostate cancer. We are still finalising dates but believe it would most likely happen in February 2021.

36

PE West 142 has donated almost R45k to various beneficiaries/causes this year so far with a very exciting end to the year expected.

On another note our clubhouse is almost done and we can’t wait to host other tables for raids and meetings, look out for a Trunk Tales report in the next edition on the clubhouse journey from start to completion. We also had our Current President (Cristo) & Vice President (Stefan) do an official opening of the clubhouse whilst they were down for the Spring conference. As for our meetings we have started to meet again in person as Covid 19 restrictions have loosened up. We were honoured to host our Area Chairman Cheetah Bruwer at one of our business meetings and also extremely lucky to have had the Spring Conference in PE and have so many Round Table Heavyweights attend the weekend which was an absolute blast. I have managed to fit 2 raids in thus far this year, 1 with Swartkops 195 & another with Algoa 108 and look forward to fitting in a few more before my year as Chairman is up. Round Table PE West – Promoting the Rondel

Through social media Round Table PE West 142 got a request for assistance from Cotswold Frail Care Home situated in the western suburbs of Port Elizabeth. As an NGO the home is dependent on sponsors to care for the elderly, Round Table PE West 142 thought it well to assist them under our “Ubuntu” project the table was running within the early stages of the lockdown. Members voted in to assist the home with non-perishable food, toiletries and cleaning goods worth R4000.00.They were overwhelmed and grateful for the assistance, they knew that we were going to assist but not to this extent. In addition we have assisted with more requests that came through from the home. Members of RT142 thought it well and voted in favour to expand our partnership into a more permanent support function from Round Table PE West 142. We will plan specific fundraisers for the Cotswold Frail Care Home to support them with their specific requirements and needs. The commitment from RT142 for support to the home allowed us the opportunity to design and print much needed signage for the home and fix them outside of the building not only to create visibility of the home but also the promote the Round Table brand. Round Table Port Elizabeth West 142 is proud and privileged to be able to assist the good work done by the home and their motivated caring staff.

Thank You Pienaar Allers

Vice Chairman 142 & EP Area Public Relations Officer

My journey to Round Table PE West 142 As a young guy in the financial industry I get to meet quite a lot of people as well as some interesting ones. One day I met a client of mine and after building a good relationship, she one day turned to me in a meeting and told me that she should introduce me to her nephew, JP Du Plessis as she thinks I will be a good fit for the organization he is a part of. I gave JP a call and decided to meet join my first Round Table meeting on 18th of March 2020. I sat in that meeting and listened to all the different projects that PE West had planned for 2020 and what they have done in the past. I was so impressed with what they can accomplish with somewhat limited resources and a few contacts here and there. I knew from there on that this is something I would like to be a part of as I have always enjoyed giving back to the community. After the meeting I had a long chat to the tablers to get to know them and obviously go through the “Vetting“ phase of becoming a tabler. I have to say, I immediately felt at home between these group of guys. Unfortunately, COVID-19 struck and most of our meetings and projects had to be put on hold, but this did not stop us from meeting virtually and checking in to see that everyone is still doing okay through this pandemic. I myself went through a move of practise as we were going into level 1 of the lockdown and the encouragement and support from my fellow tablers kept me positive trough the tough time. Our projects that we could do within restrictions was an amazing opportunity to first handily experience what table is all about. Through all of this difficult year of the pandemic, I have to admit it was an interesting time to become a pipeliner and being inducted as one at our Area Chairman’s visit to one of our meetings was something special. What was even more special was being inducted as a Tabler/Member at our EP Area Spring Conference and being inducted by our RTSA President and Vice as well as our EP Area Chairman. This was something I will remember forever. I am looking forward to the future as a tabler and to help drive impactful change in our community. If 2020 and Round Table taught me one thing this year, it would be to live by our RTSA motto:” Adopt, Adapt, Improve” YIT Schalk Rossouw Tabler

Chairman’s report Port Alfred 177 Our table has been experiencing a bit of a quiet ito projects, but had some good fellowship and braai’s amongst the tablers. The spring conference was attended by myself and my vice chair Brendan Marais and we were lucky enough to have the prettier halves accompany us. We enjoyed some great fellowship with the area guys, and a good meeting was held the Saturday, followed by some more fellowship. On Friday 30 October we had our Beer-feast, and once again the fellowship was amazing. We had some great support from the local community and businesses. The craft beer and gin supplied by our local brewery, literally flowed like the Kowie River. The evening resulted in a good surplus which will be put towards the aims and objects of our table. Our business meeting was held on the 5th of November. We currently have one pipeliner and 3 guests joined our meeting for the first time. These are some young and positive guys from our community that wants to help were they can, so I can see some long, great table careers from these four gentlemen. Our year is slowly drawing to an end with only some small functions coming up. We have no immediate projects coming up.

Chairman feedback Adelaide 194 hosted our annual Vlakvark 500 event on the weekend of the 30/31 October 2020, having made it a bit bigger this year we had a total of 37 hunters joining us for the weekend as well as our EP Chairman Johan Cheetah Bruwer. With the event kicking off the Friday night guys enjoyed themselves and new members to the event got to know all the PH’s and hunters. Adelaide 194 hosted the event at Molweni game lodge just outside Adelaide, this were the perfect venue as Adelaide 194 had our own bar as well. On the Saturday 31st October the hunt started at 06:00 and with an successful day we managed to shoot 108 warthogs. Saturday night we had steaks cooked by our local butcher Danie Ferreira who also made a big donation to our project. We managed to raised more than R50 000 and still counting as some pigs were donated from the farmers to Adelaide 194. I want to thank my Adelaide 194 crew and our ladies for making this event the biggest ever and one to remember. The Adelaide legs are doing their first project for 2020 and has spend many days and hours on this proudly Adelaide 194 recipe book. To date 350 books has been printed and more that 300 sold. Another order went in for more books as this has become the third biggest project for Adelaide 194. Well done to the Adelaide 194 ladies.

Chairman's Feedback Good day fellow tablers and legs. A little over a month ago I would not have imagined that I would be standing in as chairman of Zwartkops again. Luckily for this old man we have plenty of young blood coming through the ranks now. At the Spring Conference hosted by Algoa 108 we had the honour of two new members, Carl Olivier and David Allan being inducted. We are also super excited that Greg Meier has transferred in from Adelaide 194 and once myself and Kyle depart as 41ers the average age in the table drops dramatically. So, besides the few personnel changes in Zwartkops we also pleased to welcome ‘’Dawietjie’’ son of Dawie and Belinda Malan to the family. So, as we enter the final quarter of our table year, we can already start reflecting on the year that is almost over and start planning for the year ahead. For Zwartkops, as difficult as the year has been, including our chairman stepping down and our vice chairman resigning we are in a good space. We are having fellowship; we are active in raising funds and we are discussing business at meetings. Communication, communication and a little more communication will go a long way in resolving differences which if left to fester could destroy a table. As young gentlemen in this organization we sometimes need a reminder that all these aspects running coherently are crucial to table dynamics. The year ahead looks promising with new ideas and ways of doing things mixed with tradition and history. At a national level, I have enjoyed the progress made in getting Round Table recognised in different spheres of media, including radio, television and social media with the emphasis on professionalism. Only one caution from my side, DO NOT TAKE THE FUN OUT OF TABLE! Just a few weeks ago, we handled the bar at a charity run hosted by Wildhorse MCC. Even with torrential rain, we managed to raise some much-needed funds for table as well as sharing the profits for a worthy cause. On the 20th of November we are hosting a charity gig at the Music Kitchen with three bands lining up. We will then wrap up the community service with a fundraiser and Christmas party for Sinethemba House. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have been through a year that nobody could have scripted and if we are able to make the smallest difference in someone’s life, it shouldn’t even be a choice. Not with money, give of your time, give your energy, but most importantly give with compassion and grace. I will end with this thought ‘’ Don’t treat people as bad as they are, treat them as good as you are.’’

Alex/Kenton210 Presents, Rugby/Golf 2020 2020 has been the year to remember, mostly for all the wrong reasons but, it is also the year where we saw the birth of a new kind of event, RugbyGolf. With that said, it was a very busy time in everyone’s calendar to run such an event as the coastal community pushes to prepare for the December holiday season. It has been an extremely difficult year for our Business Community and I have to give a special note of thanks to the following sponsors who made the event possible. We would not have been able to do this without your support. • • • • • • • • • • •

BUCO Kenton on Sea, Sibuya Private Game Reserve, Pam Golding Properties Kenton on Sea, Kenton Eco Estate, Ultra Express Robby’s, Van Wyk & Associates Financial Planning Old Mutual, Carriage Rock College, SAVEMORE Alexandria, Adelaide Round Table and Nico Schneider, Holsboer Vacations, Cape Eastern Livestock,

For those that are not familiar with RugbyGolf, it works as follows; Each hole is started by means of a Place Kick from the Tee Box, if the ball lands in the rough or a sand bunker one is only allowed to drop kick. If you are fortunate enough to find yourself on the fairway, any form of kick is permitted however, water hazards will add an additional kick to your score. When your ball rests on the green you are permitted to throw the ball into the hole. The 9th hole was the last hole of the circuit and doubled as the “longest place Kick” which meant that for you to qualify one had to “place kick” over rugby polls 20m away, this ultimately sounds easier than what it was. We were blessed with a fantastic day with the participating field split in two. One group starting at the Clubhouse with the added pressure of some crowd noise in the background and the second group starting at the 9th hole to challenge for the longest place kick. Important to note that an ex-front rower held the lead for the longest legitimate place kick for some time before being robbed of the ultimate glory by a backline player.

50

To our surprise we had a Lady enter the competition as well leaving some of the male dominated field in her dust with some finely judged kicks. To make your walk feel shorter you were also able to rent a BUCO branded wheel Barrow to make the carting of refreshments a lot easier. It also became evident early in the proceedings that not everyone is blessed with long hamstrings. All this took place under the Hawk like eyes of two roaming referees waiting to swoop down on unsuspecting transgressors that found themselves guilty of offenses namely “lack of effort, bad sportsmanship, disturbing the wildlife” to mention but a few. I would like to thank two of our 41’rs, Eugene Catherine and Fabrizzio Altichiero for assisting us with the Referee duty. The Prize Winners are as follows;

1st Prize Sibuya Private Reserve Day Trip for 2 went to Llewayne van Rensburg and Dewaldo Jacobs with a team total of 120kicks

• 2nd Prize sponsored by Buco Kenton on Sea Went to Zane van Rensburg and Dylan Bond •

3rd Prize sponsored by Adelaide Round Table Went to Nolan and Xavion Gunn

The Longest Place Kick Dewaldo Jacobs

Best dressed Thomas Sutherland and Jason Hill

Best Lady in the Field Amy Sparg

Medic Prize for the Longest walk of the day Guillym Theron and Chris Ovens

Profits raised at this year’s event, will be distributed to the Dias Old Age Home in Alexandria. We look forward to hosting our 2021 edition of RugbyGolf and continue building on an amazing outdoor event for the whole family. YIT Jacques van Wyk Project Convener Alex/Kenton210

TABLE FEEDBACK When the restrictions on in-person meeting were lifted we were all very much looking forward to getting together and experiencing the fellowship we so enjoy. Life however has a way of disrupting your plans and only at our fourth meeting was everyone able to attend. We currently have two guest attendees who we’ll assess as possible members and hopefully they’ll become pipeliners in the new year. We managed to complete our Winter Knights project with the donations going to CMR Humansdorp. The vast reach of the Organization came to the fore when Werner Swanepoel from Mpumalanga informed us of someone in our area who was going to be evicted as they were unable to cover their rent on time due to hardships caused by Lockdown. A couple of phone calls and a quick WhatsApp vote occurred, and her landlord was paid on the same day we were informed of the situation. One of our members was aware of a farmer in need of animal feed and through the goodwill and assistance of fellow members a feed purchase and donation was made. What started of as assistance for a single farmer was eventually shared between four farmers. Lockdown regulations forced us to cancel our flagship Boere Rally event, however we had to honour our commitment to the hosts of a motocross event that was allowed to continue. On the day we hosted a food stall that proved to be a good trial run and we will definitely strive toward combining our events in the future. We are currently running an online Chrismas Raffle with the draw to take place on 16 December 2020. Feel free to contact a Jeffreys Bay / Humansdorp 252 Tabler to get the entry info. We also had the privilege of having our Area Chairman visit in November. It was an honour to have Johan with us and his feedback and wisdom shared with us will stay with us for a long time. We trust that he didn’t pick up any serious injuries while playing the game of cricket for the Golden Ducks. Some of our members went on a raid to Zwartkops 195. The video of our one-hit-wonder karaoke king will entertain us for a while. A good fellowship experience for all who attended. With December ahead of us we encourage those of you who are travelling to do so responsibly and keep safe. YIT Devan Gerber Secretary 2020/21

Wise words from “Mr Tabler” I remember the 10th February 2003 distinctly. My uncle called me and asked what I was doing that night. Being a Monday night, not much was planned, and he convinced me to attend a Round Table meeting in Kenton.

I sat there silently throughout the meeting, drinking my Vodka and Coke (yes, those were the days), and not saying anything to anyone. Finally, under General at the end of the meeting, the Chairman asked if I wanted to join Round Table, and I said yes. He called me forward, stuck a pin through my shirt, and just like that I was inducted. My good friend Pierre van Rensburg was the Vice Chairman, and unfortunately, he spelt my name wrong on the Membership Form, and it took me another 8 years to get it corrected and to order my own Welcome Pack. I remember looking down the long road ahead of me, and deciding to take it easy, or as my father would always say: pace yourself. I hung back when there were requests for convenors, I didn’t travel, I didn’t homehost and I didn’t initiate any new projects. After all, my fellow Tablers were all part of Table with my father, and it took me at least a year or so to stop calling them Uncle Pierre and Uncle Johan! I had never attended an Area Conference as a Tabler before, and one Saturday morning in July 2005 I was taken to a conference in Adelaide and told to represent our Club. I remember sitting between Zwartkops 195 (Dave Dyer had just explained to the meeting that he had been delayed on the way as he had tried to catch a sheep in a field, or so I was led to believe), and Thornhill 208 (Hardo Bisping was there and had a nasty habit of trying to kiss Tablers for the shock factor). I realised at that moment that I must have had a very sheltered upbringing, a realisation not helped by the sergeant’s offerings of oysters in sweetcorn with sheep’s uterus, and fermented corn beer with unrecognisable lumps in it, which thanks to the lack of minutes and financials by our Club meant I was bilious the whole way home.

56

The last 104 Area Conferences have started to blend into each other, with details like where they took place, or who attended, becoming vague over time, but to those reading this, I can tell you that I enjoyed every single one of them. So, I leave you with a lesson I have learnt from almost 18 years in Table and 18 years as a Table child: Don’t have any regrets. Don’t wait for next Friday, or next weekend, or next year. Don’t wait for when you will have enough money, or more time, or your kids are older. Don’t wait for someone else to do something, or for something to happen on its own. Go on those raids, attend the conferences, join the projects, travel, meet friends, lose friends, laugh at your own jokes, get dagdronk at least once on a bus-ride to Augrabies Falls. Get lost in a strange town. Be home-hosted where you get to sleep in a bath, or in a bed made up with plastic shower curtains. Have breakfast at a dodgy petrol-station diner where the breakfast special is fried polony and watery eggs. Laugh with friends until you cry, or cry with them until you laugh. Watch the sun come up on your way back from an all-night party in Kirkwood. Dance all night and find holes in your suit shoes the next morning. Drive 1,600km for one night to attend a dinner.

Or drive with friends till you find some snow. Put your hand up as convenor, or Chairman, or Area Chairman, or even President. Push yourself, learn new skills, have good ideas, make ridiculous statements, and find at least one alter-ego. But whatever you do, do something. To quote my favourite poem by Robert Frost: I took the road less travelled, and that has made all the difference. YIT Alan Malan

MOVIE POSTER COMPETITION –September 2020 PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 held a Movie Poster Competition to raise funds for running costs. Members of the public were asked to re-create a movie poster or a movie scene and submit it along with an entry fee of R40. All photos and their respective original movie scenes/posters were published on our Facebook Page where people could Vote for their favourites by Liking the photo posted. We loved the creativity and effort that everyone who entered put into their photos. We had loads of fun and giggles going through and posting the pics. Congratulations to Dave and Glenda Adams on your winning entry under the Individual/Couples category, and Benoni Ladies Circle No. 25 on winning the Group entry. We hope you enjoy your cash prizes and absolute bragging rights. We would like to thank everyone who took part. Our Circle would not survive without your support.

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY On September 19th it was International Coastal Clean-up Day. Due to work and family commitments, our Chairlady, Sonel Lindeque, was the only one tackling the day, but nonetheless had an impactful day. The day started off however with her joining the free Beach Bootcamp hosted by Star Fitness at Sardinia Bay beach. After getting the blood pumping through the veins and working the muscles, the solo clean-up started. Sadly the rubbish bag didn’t leave the beach empty. The surroundings are so beautiful and it is really a pity that humans can’t all take care of it. Pollution is sadly rising every day, but together we can make a difference by taking a bag along to the beach and picking up rubbish along our strolls. PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 strives to make a difference when and where we can, so we challenge you to join us and not to just do Coastal Cleanup once a year, but every time you visit the beach. Every little bit helps to stop 60 pollution.

BLOOD, SWEAT AND…. CAKE! PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 was back at the blood bank on Wednesday 23 September for our monthly blood donation ~ because blood saves lives! Please contact your nearest SANBS to see how you can make a difference, one drop at a time. On a social note, PE Pearls LC19 has decided that we want to go on more adventures, exit our comfort zones and try new things! Adventure No. 1 (23 September 2020) started on a HIGH note, with some indoor rock climbing fun at Valley Crag Indoor Climbing Center, and what an epic idea it was, talk about pushing yourself to the LIMITS! Our instructor, Caitlin Gouws, took us to new HEIGHTS! Taking us through the course, talking us through the do’s and don’ts of climbing and showed us how it is meant to be done. Caitlin made it look so easy… and then we tried it! Some of us fared better than others, but all in all, although a bit strenuous, it was surprisingly fun, especially when trying to better yourself, pushing yourself a little bit further each time. We will definitely be doing this again! After an exhausting, but absolutely exhilarating evening, we took a slow walk back to the car and took a detour past McDonald’s on our way home, for some coffee and cake! We spent about an hour chatting about life, ladies circle and ideas for our next adventurous escapade before we all made our way home. This was a great end to an awesome first adventure.

CHARITY CHICKS

PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 were on a Roll after attending the APD Wheelchair Wednesday on the 14th October 2020, so we chased it up with an afternoon of charity donations. We have a couple of regular beneficiaries which we try to donate to on a regular basis, BabyLoversBlessings being one of these. BabyLoversBlessings collect baby clothing, blankets and related products which they hand out to moms and their newborn babies at the hospital maternity wards. This was PE Pearls LC19’s first stop for the afternoon, where we handed over some knitted beanies and baby clothes to Caty Pieterse of BabyLoversBlessings. Please use the following link to see what items are needed, and how you can assist – https://www.facebook.com/groups/babyloversblessings Another of our regular beneficiaries that we visited was our leading lady, Lynne Swann. We spent a little bit of time with her and gave her mom, Tracy Swann, some of her monthly medicine, nappies and purity porridge. To find out more about Lynne’s story and how you can assist, please follow this link – Lynne Swann – http://www.backabuddy.co.za/lynnis-journey

APD WHEELCHAIR WEDNESDAY

PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 spent 4 hours in a wheelchair on Wednesday 14th October 2020 as part of the Wheelchair Wednesday initiative hosted annually by the Association for the Physically Disabled (APD) to create awareness for those with disabilities. PE Pearls LC19 started off at Sunridge Spar with the official “Roll-Out”. After doing some shopping at Baywest Mall, the Kabega Park Police Station and Postnet Metlife Mall were visited for stamps on the Task Sheet. Money was also drawn from an ATM and coffee enjoyed at Metlife Mall Wimpy as part of the tasks set out for participants to complete while in the wheelchair. After visiting various shopping outlets and a trip to Linton Grange Spar, it was more than 4 hours spent in the wheelchair. Upon returning the wheelchair to APD at their Workshop in Paterson Road, Sydenham, it was with great delight that we also handed over some much needed cleaning products to them. It ended the unforgettable experience. PE Pearls LC19 Chairlady, Sonel Lindeque, reports on the experience below: Can you outline how you became involved in Wheelchair Wednesday? I have known Brian Bezuidenhout, the Immediate Past Executive Director, since 2011, when I moved to Port Elizabeth and have been involved in various aspects of APD. In 2019, through fundraising initiatives, PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 paid the participation fee together with the Dias Quilters’ Guild, but did not partake in the Roll-out. This year we as PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 however, paid the whole of the participation fee and spent the time in the Wheelchair. Can you describe some of the toughest challenges you faced during the exercise? One cannot do monthly shopping like an abled body. You just cannot fill a trolley and push it through a shop. You constantly need an assistant, especially for shopping, because you will only be able to buy products within arms-length, unless someone escorts you throughout the whole shop. You are vulnerable at all times. Upper body strength is painful if you do not have it. You need gloves to protect your hands, because a wheelchair is not always soft on the hands. If you are able to drive, you still need an assistant to load and offload your wheelchair. 63

We have a new found respect for those who have to spend their lives in a wheelchair. The amount of upper body strength needed for this daily way of living is something no one can fully comprehend until placed in this situation, as well as patience, perseverance and a partner to assist. This is truly an eye opener. CANCER AWARENESS Cancer is not just an October matter, Cancer is an everyday reality. In September we saw awareness aimed at children’s Cancer, this month is pretty in pink for Breast Cancer and in November we will see hues of blue for Movember in aid of Testicular Cancer. We are always trying to take care of those affected by, struggling with, surviving and/or beating Cancer. PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 painted our Facebook page pink for Pink Ribbon Day on Tuesday 13th October 2020 to show our support for Breast Cancer. On Wednesday 14th October 2020, while partaking in the APD Wheelchair Wednesday, PE Pearls LC19 rolled into CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation to drop off a Wii game console and some game cartridges that were donated to us by a member of the community. This should keep some little souls occupied and happy while undergoing their treatment, and will hopefully be a welcome distraction. LC19 also donated a couple of various items (pens, soothing creams and soaps), sponsored to us by 2 Frogs Agency distribution company, to the WithLuv Cancer Care Bag Project to be included in their goody bags. WithLuv aim to provide 20 of these gift bags (both male and female versions) per month, to patients diagnosed with cancer. Please email withluv100@gmail.com to find out more about this project and how you too can assist WithLuv with any donations.

Blast from the past Alexandra-Kenton 41er Blast from the Past – Fabrizio Altichiero I was inducted into Round Table Grahamstown 11 in 2001. In 2009 I transferred to Alex Kenton 210 where I became a 41’er in 2011. I was Grahamstown 11 Chairman in 2004, Eastern Province Area Chairman in 2007, Artsa Vice President in 2008, Artsa President in 2009 and, as I was reminded when I was inducted that this was the most prestigious position, Alex Kenton 210 Chairman in 2010. There were other portfolios in between all of these as well. One of the privileges I had in Table was traveling, not just around the country, but around the world. From Area conference in the Northern Cape to RTI World meeting in Thailand. From the Fishing Boogie in Namibia to a RTBI agm in Harrogate, England. There are way too many stories and memories to recall in my 10 years of Tabling, but I’ll give it a bash. In 2008 EP was hosting ARTSA in Port Elizabeth and we decided that it would be promoted like none before it. In 2007 We spent 18 hours in a Hi-Ace traveling to the first ever Tri Area in Dragons Peak in the Drakensberg. It took so long not because it was so far but because there were about 10 of us in the Hi-Ace with the average weight per person about 120kg. Not enough power in the poor engine to get us there quickly. Another trip promoting ARTSA was to Hermanus to attend the WP/Southern Cape Bi Area on the weekend of the Rugby World Cup Final. You can imagine the party after we beat England. In 2010, ARTSA was held in the Southern Cape, and as President I traveled the country attending area conferences, together with my sidekicks for the year, ARTSA Convenor, Jaco Hanekom and EP Area Chairman, Johan Lindeque. All the traveling paid off and we had an ARTSA at Hartenbos that was attended by over 1100 people, with more than 110 International Tablers.

Some other travels that I have done were to the RTEA AGM in Mombasa, Kenya, in 2008 and in Nairobi in 2009. I travelled to Pataya, Thailand, in 2008, for the RTI AGM and to Alkmaar, Netherlands, in 2009. In 2010 I had the privilege of attending the RTBI AGM in Harrogate in England. What was supposed to have been a weekend in England turned in to a longer then planned stay thanks to the ash cloud that was floating around Europe at the time. I must say the most memorable international trip I had was in 2009 when myself and MurandaLynn, together with 11 other Tablers and wife attended the German Pre-Tour for a week and then renting a combi and driving through the Netherlands for another week, being hosted by Tables and ending with the Dutch agm. In 2013, as a 41’er, myself, Alan Malan, Eugene and Dee Catherine, and Wayne and Leza Stevenson attended a Tri-Area somewhere in Kwazulu Natal. That weekend saw the birth of Tourist 276. A “Table” dedicated to travel around the country, with our ultimate aim to travel internationally. Sadly, this never materialized. We could never save up enough money. In 2009, Myself, Johann “Woof” Lindeque and Jaco Hanekom, South Cape ARTSA Convener, came up with a great idea of getting Buffalo tattoos. The reasoning behind this was so that we would never have to win a pin again and anyone who was within 500m of us would get Buffaloed. Eugene Catherine and Riaan Labuschagne joined us as well, and the Extreme Buffalo club was born. Not many local Tablers have taken up the challenge, but the Extreme Buffalo Club has exploded internationally. What a privilege and honor it was to be a Tabler and as a young Tabler I was always told you need to travel to get the most out of Table. I never quite understood what it meant until I started attending Area Conferences and ARTSA’s. You meet people for the first time, and you can’t wait until you see them again. I know it’s a cliché but get involved, travel, raid, home host, anything to meet as many Tablers as possible. You’ll have friends and family for life. Thank you for allowing me to share some of my experiences with you and I look forward to sharing many more with young Tablers around a braai fire or in the pub. Yours in Table Fabrizio Altichiero 41’er and past everything.

Blast from the past P.E West 142 Some Say His testicles are made from Titanium and that his under-pants are carbon-fibre Some say, he's actually dead... But the Grim reaper, is too scared to tell him... All we know is, he's called…. Adrian Bester! LOL! This was the first thing that I saw when I went through my old Round Table stuff to look for some pictures and memories….this was one of them…It was for a function that I had to introduce him….….he’s a 41’er…Just like me….Can’t walk past the bathroom without thinking “I may as well pee because I am here now, or when I have a really big sneeze, I cross my legs and hope for the best……. Such is the thing of getting older…not old, just older. Age is just a number. The nice thing about getting older, is that you tend to gain more experience and, have more memories of the things, especially the ones that you will carry with you forever. Such was Round Table: I have many fond memories, and a couple of them stands out. ARTSA that we had in Port Elizabeth in 2008, and then before that, the trip that we also took to the Natal North/South Coast Tri Area Raid to promote the up and coming ARTSA in PE. I believe that the guys went up this past weekend, and I am sure that it was a huge fellowship opportunity like we had! The traveling that we did is also something that I will never forget. It includes all the Area Conferences that we had all over the province, the CVC’s, the raids, the out of area raids to Border and Western Cape, but I think the most memorable travels, would have been the ARTSA’s! Bella Bella, Rustenburg, Ballito, George and East London. All of those were ones for the book! Memories and friends were made that will never go away! That is why it is so important to, if you are able, to travel as much as you can.

I also had the honor to be on the EP AREA Exec for 2 years, as well as Table Chairman a couple of times, and all of those instances helped me to learn and experience new things that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Whether that be personal or business, Round Table teaches you so many things that you do not even know of. And that is what “Developing young men” actually means. I must also say that I am extremely proud of what the EP AREA has accomplished over the last 10 or so years. We have had numerous ARTSA PRESIDENTS as well as numerous EP members on National. I truly feel that the core of ARTSA comes from the Tablers in EP Area, and there is still so much more to come! I am also EXTREMELY proud for what the PE WEST 142 guys have achieved. I think that every outgoing Chairman thinks and believes that he has done so much in his year, but since I have left as a 41’er, the 142 guys have just gone from strength to strength! They have exceeded with ease, that I though in my time was a challenge. They have held, are still holding, and will still do so in the future, numerous seats on EP Exec. This in itself is a very good resume for what the 142 guys are capable off and of their commitment to RTSA. They have also done EXTREMELY well during the lockdown to reach so many people in need, and doing it without being selfish, and thinking about other people first. That is what Round Table is all about. Yes, we party hard, and that will and must never change, but…..we work hard as well. Round Table is a very “satisfying” organization to belong to….the feeling that you get when you give someone food, when they have not eaten in days, or the time when you have to walk away where nobody can see you, to shed a quick tear, when you give a child a bed and some blankets in the middle of the winter…the thankfulness in their eyes…..THAT….is what Round Table is all about, and I will forever pride myself to make it known that I am a PROUND member of Round Table, and will be, till the day that I die! ARTSA 2022 Fellow EP Tablers It still feels like a long time to wait, but it is most certainly almost around the corner… As you all know by now, I am very honoured to be chosen to represent Eastern Province as the ARTSA Convenor for 2022 by you all. Thank you to all of my planning committee members who have agreed to help me with this prestigious event. What a privilege it is for me to have them to back me as my team. They are a force to be reckoned with. Each and every one bringing their own “magic” to our planning. By now, we have the venue in place and this will be at Mentorskraal in Jeffreysbay on the 27th of April to 1st of May 2022, and we are really excited to host this at their venue and I am sure that everyone will get a beach surfing feeling visiting our town and we are hoping to pull off one of a kind ARTSA for everyone. I am really disappointed to have missed the Shadow ASSCO, because this is where it all starts and it is also a bit concerning seeing how quickly this is becoming reality, but unfortunately I had work commitments, and surely will make up for this. We will soon have our first official meeting as the committee and will finalise a couple of things on the budget and plans regarding the bigger decisions, but don’t want to give too much away, we have loads of surprises, but I can assure you, we are planning full steam, already submitted a 9 page venue proposal for them with what we are aiming for, now to just negotiate the last decisions. Looking forward to host you all and I will keep everyone posted on our progress. Yours in Table Wayne Stevenson
