C.V.C Weekend

Fellow Tablers and Ladies While we are all still affected by Covid-19 and the Lockdown regulations. The Round Table Eastern Province members took the opportunity to see where and how we can have #impactfulchange in our communities. I have to commend all the Table Chairman and Tablers for what you have done during the last 6 months. Projects that was done on a yearly basis had to be cancelled or postponed during lockdown. Some of those projects will only come to life again next year. This did bring down the morale because we need our projects to do what is needed in our communities. Instead of being negative about this all the Tables came up with new projects that we could do within the Lockdown rules. These projects came to life one by one and we did better than what was anticipated. This out of the box thinking shows the commitment you have for Table and the change that you want to make in your community. Since my last report I have had the privilege to travel and I am glad to report that I have attended some table visits, 2nd ASSCO in Augrabies and we were able to have our CVC meeting. All of the above took place within the rules and regulations of lockdown and all protocols were followed. My first official Table visit for the year was to Adelaide 194 on 1 August 2020. Nico Schneider and the Adelaide members pulled out all the stops and planned a great weekend for my AC visit. I had to leave home early on the Saturday to join the team for a very special hunting experience. Nico made sure that there were enough members on and in the vehicle to add some pressure to the day. I was lucky enough to shoot some Springbuck and 1 Impala. The day was about fellowship and new friendships were made with the hunt on the side. After a day on the back of the vehicle we all went to the lodge for the formal meeting to be held after we cleaned up a bit. During the meeting I gave Wessel du Randt (Lolly) the new inductee at Adelaide 194 his Cheetah pin and welcomed him to Table. Chairman Nico Schneider received his Cheetah shirt and pin. Business was discussed and the standout project was the soup kitchen donation of 1.8 ton of meat with a hunting value of ÂąR256 000. Once again well-done Adelaide 194 with this project.

Monday 3 August 2020, I had my official Table visit to Kirkwood 78. At the meeting I had the privilege of inducting Jacques McLachlan into the Round Table family. It was a special meeting at my own Table and I have to give credit to Kirkwood 78, without them having my back and supporting me 100% I would not have been able to take on this year.

Wednesday 5 August 2020, we started our journey to Agrabies for 2nd ASSCO. Our first stop was in Cradock to attend the business meeting of Cradock 37 for an official AC visit. (EP Touring party – Johan and Vanessa Bruwer, Alan Malan, Wayne Stevenson and Marinus Rautenbach) We were joined for the meeting by 41ers Simon Ward (108), Jack Adam, Arlo Slabbert and Jacques Gerber(37). During the meeting I officially gave Rudi Britz his RT pin after inducting him over Zoom a few months ago. It was also the first meeting that Swarrie could attend at his new Table after his transfer from JBay/Humansdorp 252. It was a well-run meeting under the leadership of John Tom, and the 41ers made sure that traditions were kept with good steaks at the clubhouse.

Thursday morning, we were on the road very early to get to Augrabies. Marinus the Godfather organised a Toyota Quantum 11-seater from Algoa Toyota so that we could all travel together. The road trip was definitely one of the best trips I have been part of. It took us the whole day to get to Augrabies where we met with the other ASSCO members. We were told that the lodge was just 10km down the road when we were already driving with the fuel light on for some time. We made it to the lodge but would not go any further the next day. Paul and Jurgens made some plans and we received diesel the next morning to get back into town. We had some great fellowship under the open skies of the Northern Cape. 4 The next day we noticed that the 10km was almost an hour away from the Hotel.

The rest of the ASSCO members arrived during the day at the hotel. Friday evening the Augrabies members made sure we were treated with good food and again we had good fellowship. This was the first time since Shadow ASSCO that we could get together and get to know one another. The Saturday was all business as usual with a very constructive meeting. There was a lot of discussions that took place. Some changes to the calendar had to be made due to certain events not held during the Lockdown. What I noticed from all the feedback of the Chairman that attended the meeting was that RTSA was in a very good place. All the Areas came up with new projects to help in the communities and some very big projects was completed successfully. I was honoured to sit among the rest of the Area Chairman and know that EP Area is part of this #impactfulchange that is happening in SA. The evening was a formal affair where at long last the hand over between Mr Alan Malan and Mr Christo Bezuidenhout could take place. The new President then had the privilege to present each AC with his chairman’s gong. Past President Alan Malan presented Marinus Rautenbach with his Tabler of the Year award and gave the rest of his EXEC their service medals for the year served. On women’s day we were all treated with a trip to the Augrabies falls before we all went to Paul Dippenaar’s house for the last bit of fellowship and a spitbraai. All good things have to end and everybody was on the road again the Monday to get home. My next AC visit was to PE West 142 on 2 September. The meeting was held at the “stand in clubhouse” that they use at the moment. With them having a Past Area Chairman and two current Exec members there was not much to help and tell the members. The biggest project at the moment is the building of their own clubhouse. We can’t wait to have some fellowship with the members in their own clubhouse and celebrate their 50 -year anniversary.

5

Grahamstown 11 hosted our CVC on 5 September. The meeting was Chaired by our current VC Cornel “Sidestep” Strydom. It was a very well-run meeting and a lot of positives came out of the meeting for future projects and planning. The Area will definitely be in good hands next year with Sidestep in the chair. For me it was great to see every Table in attendance at the meeting and the willingness of the members to embrace the changes this year and still drive #impactfulchange. At the meeting I had the privilege of inducting two new members from Grahamstown 11 into our wonderful organization. Welcome Ryan Dewey and Craig Fourie, we know you will enjoy your time in Table. 10 September I drove to Port Alfred 177 for my official AC visit. It was great to get to the clubhouse and see 41ers in attendance for the meeting. Past Area Chairman and 41er Adriaan Potgieter also attended the meeting. What we again realized during the meeting is the value that 41ers have when you include them and ask them for help. They might be “old” Tablers, but they still care about the Rondel and the Tables they were part of. The current PA 177 team is motivated under Jacques Scheepers to adapt to some changes to take their Table to the next level. I would like to thank all the Tables that I visited over the last two months. You made me feel welcome and every visit was special in its own way. With things getting back to normal slowly I am looking forward to my next table visits and projects coming up. Algoa 108 is busy planning our Spring Conference to be held in Port Elizabeth from 16-18 October. We are all looking forward to attend this in great numbers. As Tablers we should remember that we are mere custodions of Round Table for the time we are actively involved in our Table years. What we create is what Round Table will become. It is up to us to drive #impactfulchange and make sure that we leave behind a legacy that our children can be part of one day. YIT Johan Cheetah Bruwer EP Area Chairman. 2020/21

E.P AREA VICE CHAIRMAN

Vice Chairman- Feedback And so the long-awaited level 2 has arrived. Gone are the days of the daunting Zoom meetings and socialising via cell phone screens. Still, it seems that in some instances the world around us is still in level 5 lockdown. Whether this is due to fear of contamination or some people have become accustomed to the limitation imposed thereby and prefer the “lifestyle”. Often when one questions the lack of performance COVID gets the blame. How long this will be considered an acceptable excuse, no one knows, but thankfully I can report that this does not apply to most of our clubs. Most clubs in our area have done extraordinary work this year, even in heavy lockdown. Our clubs have become more innovative and creative with project ideas with astonishing results. I am very proud of what our area has achieved thus far and if this is what we can do in the most testing times, I am very excited

for the second half of the year. Some tables have even inducted new members during this time, which is very impressive. I challenge the tables who do not have any new prospective members to be just as creative with membership as you were with devising new projects. At 142 we have found that the Steak and Beans evenings have proven effective. This entails that each quarter we have a Steak and Beans evening. All tablers that did not bring a quest during that quarter, will have cold beans for supper and the tablers that did comply are

served a delicious steak. Be creative you never know when you stumble upon a prized tabler.

Next up, the Chairman, Vice-Chairman meeting. Luckily the honourable President Ramaphosa graced us with level two just ahead of this. Grahamstown 11 jumped into action to plan a memorable weekend, especially seeing that we have not convened in person for the past six months. Arriving the Friday we were met by some of the 11 chaps and whisked to our

accommodation for some well-deserved fellowship. Pienaar, aka “Die Balu”, had a very simple task to ensure he gets me to bed by no later than 23:00 on Friday. To say he failed miserably is an understatement, but I do not regret the extra few hours spent catching up with my table brothers. The Saturday meeting was very well attended and Johan Cheetah Bruwer also inducted two new members to our wonderful organisation. E.P AREA TREASURER

Greetings fellow Tablers.

While preparing for this report, I came to realise that we have already completed the first half the 2020/21 table year, which also means that half of my year as EP Area Treasurer has passed. The first six months of the table year has been challenging and thrown us out of our comfort zone, but yet it has been very rewarding. Perusing through the minutes and finance reports of the tables in our area, we can be very proud of the #impactfulchange we have been making in our area. Even in the difficult and strange times we found ourselves in, there were wonderful projects all over the area, raising funds and helping people in need. Keep doing the great work gents and ladies, I am proud to be part of Round Table in the Eastern Province Area.

It seems we are slowing heading back to doing things in table as we were used to (pre COVID). As in the last month we were able to have our first physically present Exec meeting in Kirkwood and our Area CVC in Grahamstown. We have also held two table meetings in Kirkwood, a very successful Burger Sales project and a “lekker” social to cap things off. Getting everyone together, enjoying a drink or two, experiencing the banter and sharing a joke, just reminds me of the wonderful fellowship between tablers that we have been missing in the first 5 months of the year. There is not much to report on from my portfolio’s side, as apart from the regalia transactions, there were hardly any movement in the area bank account. As promised, I will be sending the Area 6-monthly management accounts out to all the tables soon. I would once again like to thank all the Table Treasurers for diligently submitting their monthly financial reports, we have received all of the tables’ financial reports up to the end of July 2020. Please keep up the good work! I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our next Area conference, or maybe even a bit sooner at a table raid. Keep Tabling hard and remember to wear your Rondel with pride. Yours in Table, Francois Calitz Area Treasurer 2020/2021

E.P AREA SECRETARY

E.P Area Secretary Good day Fellow Tabler’s, I hope you all are doing well? Nothing much to report from my side, except that I have to congratulate each and every Table Secretary in our Area on doing a phenomenal job on their minutes as well as sending it in for us timeously. After all the drama with lockdown and levels, I had the privilege of getting an invite to attend the 2nd ASSCO which were hosted in Augrabies of all places…. And we knew that this will become a long drive without having anything to cool down the throat. With the restrictions in place you have to respect the law and it was quite difficult for us being Tablers, We all know that this is the best part of the travelling side. What can I say, we had a lot of “coffee” stops next to the road, and myself Alan, Vlooi and Marinus making the most of the trip with Cheetah keeping an eye on us and being the responsible person which he is. As soon as we hit the gravel road in Augrabies to the venue for the Pre-Tour, all hell broke loose and the wheels came off. It was a memorable trip and weekend. One thing I can confirm is that we definitely have the most passionate Area Chairman and will fight to the bone for his Area. I am really proud of EP Area as a whole to hear such good things on National level. We also had our Exec meeting in Kirkwood which we really enjoyed and Table’d to the fullest, with Johan and Vlooi hosting us. We had an amazing braai and soon we got raided by 41’ers and other Tablers and ended up being great fun as always. The Sunday meeting, we struggled a bit to get going, but was a great meeting with loads of Table matters being discussed and had the best lunch anyone could ask for. Thank you to Johan and Vlooi and the Kirkwood team, we really appreciate it. For the first time in 14 years, I was only able to attend the meeting for the CVC held in Grahamstown and not do the whole weekend, I had major FOMO, but I hear it was amazing for the guys that stayed over and they had great fun, well done Grahamstown 11, you guys outdid yourselves and we really enjoyed the meeting, most probably the best Burger and Chips I ever had and very well organized. I will make sure to send out all National correspondence which come in and keep you all updated. See you all soon at Spring Con in PE!! Yours in Table Wayne Stevenson E.P Area Secretary

Chairman’s Feedback Grahamstown 11 has had a relatively quiet past few months. It can’t go without overstating that CoVid19 has put a dampener on the fellowship aspect of Round Table in a definitive way. I don’t believe our Table is any different. It doesn’t help though, that our little city has consistently had the highest number of infections and deaths related to the pandemic in the Sarah Baartman district either, which has added to the stress factor. So, on second thought, maybe we are. We have definitely erred on the side of caution though. Despite this, small pockets of resistance formed and socializing continued in smaller groups, rules and regulations observed. Early morning walks/hikes were enjoyed, as well as the occasional trip to a farm outside of Grahamstown, for some socially distant socializing in a wide-open space. There was even the odd braai, outside under the stars I was told.

Tabling during the past two months has also suffered. Usually we would be selling topes by the hundreds, this time of year. I shudder to think what the Sunflower Foundation is aiming at this year, in terms of their usual fundraising campaign. With schools being what they are, its just not the same. Online meetings suck. Participation has been patchy, along with signal, but some of my men have made noble and noteworthy efforts to make it work. My secretary, PRO, Vice and Past Chairman in particular have towed the line really well, and they are to be commended, as, it has not been easy. Thank you gentlemen, you are all made of metal in my book and I am proud to be part of this organization with you! As far as projects are concerned, its all systems GO for our Golf Day 2020, to be held at the Belmont Golf Club on Saturday 17th October. Grahamstown 11 secretary and project convener Elrico De Bruyn has done a stunning job up till now, securing 4 x 950l Ecoslim range EcoTanks as No.1 4-ball prize, amongst others. Golf day committee meetings have been run successfully and regularly, and we hope for great things despite the crime scene of a year that it has been. We also hope and trust you will all support our golf day in any way that you can! Our table would appear to be growing, despite the dreary picture painted above. Both Craig Fourie and Ryan Dewey have attended meeting after meeting before lockdown, and showed their worth working the Bar during festival, yes, Grahamstown Arts Festival WAS “a thing”, and proved they know how to operate a bar. Their contributions in meetings and work ethic stand them in good stead for years to come! I am proud to have them both in Table with me! Yours in Table Terence Bellinghan Chairman 2020/21

Grahamstown 11 Perspective from “Pipeliner” Grahamstown Round Table 11 is an organisation that I knew existed for quite a while before I attended my first meeting. My best friend, Royden Horne had been an active member of Round Table for several years. I would hear about his experiences and involvement in Round Table and felt as though it could be something that I would be interested in. Eventually, after a couple of invites, I made a plan to make it to my first meeting. Having my best friend bring me into table made my introduction to table very smooth. In my first meeting I was able to meet most of the guys who are part of Grahamstown /RT11. As it turned out, I actually knew some of them already. From then on, it just felt natural. I enjoyed myself. I liked hearing about the planning of projects and voicing my ideas and offering my services where I could. From that first meeting I pretty much knew that Round Table was something I wanted to be involved in. I continued going to the meetings, getting involved in the chats and eventually I was invited out on an “excursion”. Apparently, these excursions are formally termed “raids” and my first one was to Alex/Kenton 210. It was a super fun night. It was awesome going to Kenton and joining their meeting, getting to know the guys and hearing about their projects and fundraising plans. We all had a great night there and even managed to sneak off with some fantastic memorabilia. Before the lockdown hit, I had attended a few more meetings in Grahamstown and I was really enjoying it. I really got to know quite a few of the guys and started building good relationships which is awesome. I am very privileged and proud to be part of the Grahamstown 11, even if I still hold the title of “Pipeliner". I feel like having built the bonds that I have with the guys of Round Table 11 in a small community like Grahamstown is something special and brings many positive aspects to one’s personal life. Just knowing that there is always someone there to talk to, some one to turn to if you need help and also knowing that you can be there for someone else too is amazing. I am really excited to be a fully-fledged member as soon as possible. I am thoroughly enjoying it and look forward to what the future holds. YIT Craig Fourie Pipeliner

Grahamstown 11 –Albany Bakeries Bread donation Starting on 17th April 2020, Albany Bakeries began a regular delivery of donated white and brown bread loaves. Murray Crous, a local businessman and owner of the Albany Bread Franchise Branch Makhanda reached out to Round Table Grahamstown 11 and asked us to facilitate the donation of bread during the level 5 “hard lockdown”. Using existing contacts with local NGOs, Grahamstown 11 Tablers initiated the delivery of bread to MacKaisers Old Age Home, Eluxolweni Children’s Shelter, Home of Joy Foster Home, and the Hayton Complex ACVV. Although the donations were slightly inconsistent, we were able to make deliveries one or two times a week. When possible, donations were also made on an ad hoc basis to a soup kitchen run from the Dakawa Centre, Child Welfare, and Shirley Gagayi Centre from Extension 6 in Makhanda.

We were not the only Table to make use of the kind donations from Albany Bakeries. It was agreed that the donations would be shared with Alex/Kenton 210 who also assisted local organisations and families who were experiencing hardship from the start of the National Lockdown through the loss of income and business. Grahamstown Round Table 11 would like to thank Albany Bakeries for their generous donations, and Murray specifically for taking the initiative to help those in need. In total, well over 400 loaves of bread were donated to the NGOs and individuals. Several large pumpkins were also donated by the Rhodes University Gardening Society which were distributed to Home of Joy, MacKaisers Old Age Home, Eluxolweni Shelter, and Child Welfare.

While Grahamstown 11 could only provide limited food donations, we took the opportunity to clear out all clothes and blankets that had been collected during previous Winter Knights collections – minimizing risk of spreading further CoVid infection. In total, eight bags of clothing were also donated to both the Shirley Gagayi Centre and the Mfuzo Boxing Club, who support young athletes from underprivileged and impoverished communities. Chairman's Feedback Cradock 37 is still good and 8 members strong we recently inducted Rudi Britz and Charl van der Merwe transferred to us from Jbay/Humansdorp 252. Two members will join the 41ers ranks next year then we will be back at 6 members but there is potential young men in ther area that might still join our table in the near future. Feedback on Winter Knights project. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 regulations the normal Winter Knights collections could not take place and we decided to have the following drop off points Kelston Status Toyota, SuperSpar at Tams, Cradock Spar and Adami Saverite. The Winter Knights of Cradock RT 37 was advertised via Cradock Round Table 37 Facebook page and Algoa fm thanks again Mike Price for mentioning our drop point on air. The date for Winter Knights was from 1 June 2020 till 15 June 2020. During this period we were able to obtain a sponsorship of dog food (10x20kg bags from OVK valued at R350 per bag). Numerous donations of old clothing and blankets was received, but food donations was limited. Cradock Spar made a generous donation regarding food (10 x boxes of food packages valued at about R150 per box). The clothing and food donations were divided between the ACVV, Vukusabenza shelter and the animal shelter received the dog food. We are busy with a few projects that will be advertised soon.

We had our Area Chairman visit on 05 August 2020, Johan Cheetah Bruwer was accompanied by past RTSA President/past EP Area Chairman Alan Malan, past EP Area Chairman Wayne Stevenson and past EP Area Chairman Marinus Bezuidenhout ag sorry I mean Rautenbach. We were also joined by a few 41ers of Cradock 37 and Algoa 108, the meeting went well and it was a real honour for me to have these gentleman at my meeting. Cheetah indicated that he feels honoured to stand in the clubhouse where his father used to be a tabler and it brings back fond memories. As always he gave a inspirational speech and motivated us and indicated we should Adopt and Adapt especially during this difficult times.

He officially welcomed Rudi Britz who he recently inducted virtually(Zoom). Marinus use the opportunity to present the Tabler of the year pins which should have had done during his EP Area Chairmanship and present the pins to Simon Ward and Johan Bruwer. Alan and Wayne thanked us for hosting them. The fellowship was enjoyed afterwards. It was a privilege to host these gentlemen. From my side gents lets stay safe and wees lekker met ander mense. Steak Drive-Through - Cradock 37 Our main project for the year, the Canoe Marathon, has been cancelled so we had to think about some new ideas that limit contact as much as possible. So we came up with the plan to do a steak evening with a pick-up or delivery focus and boerewors rolls for the kids. On Friday 4 September we started the project off with load shedding at 17:00, but with gas grillers and a generator for lights it didn't faze us that much. Most of the orders were for 18:00 to 19:00 so it was a big rush but we managed to get all the orders ready mostly in time. After that things settled down and after all the steaks for the public was picked up or delivered the tablers had some fellowship and enjoyed our own steaks. A big thanks to Adami Saverite in Cradock for the amazing steaks and potato bake, it was superb. Also thanks to all the tablers, their wives and the 41'rs that helped and support us. Chairman's Feedback What a year it has been. Kirkwood started the year on a high, with our golf day just been concluded and the “wildsfees plans starting to get together. And then, bang lockdown. Wildsfees on hold, and most of still carrying on at work as we are part of essential services. The uncertainty for those that are not part of essential services could be felt. Meetings via zoom, no more socials or fellowship except on virtual base or WhatsApp. Then Wildsfees is cancelled and lockdown is extended. All of this did not stop us to continue what we do best. Looking after each other and the needy in the community. We thought out of the box. Regard had a virtual race on his bicycle to race money for food parcels that we could give to needy families. We also accepted a challenge to shave our hair and donate money together with Spar and other companies to buy bread and distribute in the communities. Winter knights we also had to do different. We could not get together as normal but did put out collecting points around the valley. People opened their hearts and donated clothes and blankets that we could donate to the needy. On Membership we did not sit on our hands and Jacques Maclachlan is most proberly the first member to join round table over virtual platform. Jacques is a huge asset to gentleman lined up for pipeliners. Projects to come. Regard is on his bike again with a lot more airtime at Luister FM and rider Johan Oosthuizen joining him wit Ride4charity. The ride is as follows, 2 riders, 4 towns, 500km, 1trip. People can sponsor per km or donate any amount of money, food parcels or clothes. Good luck Boys. We are also selling raffle tickets at R100 per ticket. Prices is as follows, 1 st prize Whole lamb, 2nd prize Whole rooibok and 3rd price whole springbok. Contact any Kirkwood tabler for tickets. Draw will take place on 2 November at our meeting. On 4 Sept we will be flipping some patties for some leka juicy burgers. Our ladies took some initiative with share a jar of hope. You fill a jar with 1cup rice, 1 cup soup mix, 1 cup Lentils, 2 unwrapped stock cubes, 2 packets soup powder. This jar will be distributed to the needy and they can cook some nice soup. We are looking forward on making a change and meeting up with fellow tablers with some great fellowship. Yours in table Louis de Bruin (Springkaan) Chairman 2020/21

Kirkwood 78 Winter Knights. Kirkwood 78 managed to keep the underprivileged warm during this uncertain time. In normal circumstances it usually is difficult to raise funds and gather enough clothing for Winter knights, but with Covid19 it was even more challenging. We initially had 2 drop off points in the Sundays river valley, but we didn’t get the support we hoped for. So we had to make a new plan. With Covid everything become drive through or pick up, so we decided on a pickup Winter Knights.

We got dressed into full Round Table outfits, (masks included) and drove to the people who wanted to donate and collected their donations. We managed to raise a bakkie full of clothes and blankets. So that was the easy part. The actual work started when we had to make sure everything is properly washed and sanitised. It took a laundromat 3 weeks to wash all the items.

We would like to thank MornÊ and Zelda van Tonder for helping us to get the clothes to those truly in need, and then of course we really want to thank everyone that donated towards winter knights, be sure you made a difference in someone’s life.

Cycling for the Greater Good Regardt vd Merwe and Johan Oosthuizen decided to ride a 500km MTB trip just to do it for fun but then decided to make it a charity ride for Round Table Kirkwood 78. It’s definitely my biggest ride on my MTB non stop with no sleep over anywhere. Our aim was to make it back to Kirkwood within 48 hours. We left Kirkwood on Friday morning 07:30 21 Aug and arrived back in Kirkwood Saturday afternoon 16:30. We completed the ride in 33 hours. We left Kirkwood and our first stop was in Steytlerville, we had some lunch there at the Royal Hotel. We left Steytlerville on our way to Willowmore. We arrived in Willowmore at around 9pm and had some lekker dinner there (pizza and slap chips). We left Willowmore at around 11pm back to Steytlerville. We arrived back in in Steytlerville at around 4am( with degrees of 2) We rest there for a little while where other riders joined us for the rest of the trip back to Kirkwood. From Steytlerville we went to Jansenville where had had some boereworsrolls. We arrived in Jansenville at around 11:30am where we had 120km left to finish the ride of 500km. We left Jansenville at 12:30 and we had in mind is to just put our heads down and ride to Kirkwood. We arrived in Kirkwood 16:30 where our own table members was waiting for us.

We did it in 33 hours the 500km. YIT Regard Van Der Merwe

Blast from the past Kirkwood 41er

Blast from the past Kirkwood 41er

Good times had by all!! Kirkwood 78 41er! (1999 to 2004!) One thing that we always did as Tablers was travel extensively! After all this is what Table is all about. One of my personal favourites was a trip to Alex Kenton induction dinner every year, with an anything that floats race between the Tablers the Sunday on the Kariega River! Kirkwood had a very nice raft that was kept at Kenny Thatcher, which he would bring down for us. This was always hand powered with oars, except, this year we were going to jippo the system and fit a small Seagull motor to “assist” in the race! Well we launched the raft, with a “whole lamb for a spit!!” wrapped in a blanket!!! Everything was going according to plan until we took the “Lamb” out of the blanket to assist the raft!! This is when all hell broke loose and half of the race participants decided to jump on board with Kirkwood 78 blokes!! Well needless to say the raft started sinking and the poor “Lamb” started taking in water! If I recall, Neil Tibs could never get that poor Seagull motor running again!! Another Alex Kenton induction! The Saturday afternoon steek jou dood competition and Herman Meyer and a couple of the blokes go up the Bushman’s river and get back late. As in late! The dinner has started and they get to the house to dress when Herman realises that he has not brought his black shoes to go with his monkey suit! Well, he goes door to door to the neighbours and eventually gets a pair of size 8 brown shoes! You can just imagine the women’s faces, firstly late and secondly with Herman wearing someone else shoes, brown nogal!! Uitenhage was a good spot to raid as it is within travelling distance form Kirkwood, after a dozen beers!! Well that’s what we used to think! We would always take our Kudu horn with to challenge them to a beer kudu horn funnel downing competition!! This one time, we started with the horn funnel, but we had another two tricks up our sleeve!! One was my famous downing a beer while standing on your head and the other was a beer omelette! The latter involved taking a whole raw egg, into your mouth, crush it and then down a beer, spitting out the shell into the beer glass! Great fun was had, especially when the Uitenhagers swallowed the egg shells!! We were invited to Uitenhage one early Saturday morning, I think at some ridiculous time like 04h00 to watch a test match at the Uitenhage clubhouse, Springboks vs New Zealand. The blokes had just built a brand new indoor braai! The details are still a bit hazy! The blokes went down early to start a fire so that we could braai before the game. If I remember correctly we were just about to leave Kirkwood when we got a call cancelling!! The clubhouse was on fire! The neighbours alerted the Tablers that something was amiss. The Tablers were merrily braaing inside, while the roof was bellowing smoke and was basically on fire outside! The brilliant builder built one of the roof trusses into the middle of the chimney, which caught fire with the heat and embers passing, causing the truss to burn!! Area conferences were always good. We were in Grahamstown, all dressed up for the Saturday night dinner. This time, we had to fancy dress. Well Kirkwood went as Devils!! White faces, Dracula teeth, garden forks spray painted and long black frocks! Big marques tent was pitched to accommodate all of us! Started great, until there was a freak thunder and lightning burst followed by a massive torrential downpour for a couple of minutes! The water started flowing rather strongly through the tent!! Off came the shoes and socks! We were sitting knee deep in water!! Great evening had by all, with us winning the best dressed Tablers! 31

We were on our way to Middleburg area one Friday afternoon. I had just got a brand new car the Thursday and basically had about 200km on the clock! Well Kenny Thatcher was in his red Toyota, which I said I would follow! Kenny does not know driving slowly! Well we were driving like bats out of hell between about 170 and 180km/h before Graaff Reinet, (never mind running in the new engine!), when Kenny gets a blowout! Luckily nothing serious, change tyres and on we go. Well the Friday night they had chicken biryani, will never forget it, the whole Middleburg Gentlemen’s club smelt of very strong biryani! The girls battled, eventually they got take outs somewhere in Middleburg!! The Saturday ladies tour started well. My wife Mandy is petrified of snakes. I believe that one of the Middleburg Tablers wives got on the bus, topless except for her pet python around her boobs! Mandy almost broke the back window out! The Saturday was Kenny’s birthday. The dinner was lamb spit, done with the lamb leaning against the squash court wall at a 45 degree above the fire, or skaapkop! There must have been about 50 or more smileys served that night! The girls went back to the hotel rather early, also hungry! Mistake, leaving us to celebrate Kenny’s birthday. Not sure what time we left the Gentlemen’s club, but basically just in time for brekkie and get ready to go home. What a weekend! Imbedded in my memory!

The last story starts at a PE 8 induction dinner. Not sure why we left at around 22h30, but one of the ladies with us said we should go and eat some lekker steaks at this “New Restaurant” that has opened in Cape Road! Dressed in monkey suits and the ladies toffed up with long dresses, we arrive at the “Restaurant”. Well we get stopped at the door and we must first pay admission charges!! Right, now we go in and there is only one table available for the bunch of us, but it is right in the front, with a low stage about 2m away! The blokes go to the bar to get some snorts, while the ladies settle down at the table and next minute this loud music starts playing!! Out comes this young chikkie and starts taking off her clothes!! My wife Mandy has never used Dawn cream after this night. The chikkie proceeds to rub a bottle of Dawn all over herself and obviously the guys are loving this!! Well this was the all new Golden Curtain strip club that we were in! The girls took us there, but my word did they take us outside even quicker!! Many happy memories of EP Table!! Great friends made and still see many!! May you blokes have many happy enjoyable Table days. Make the most of them!! Stay health and SAFE! YIT Greg Jones Kirkwood 41er

Chairman Feedback So begins my final year as chairman of Round Table Algoa 108…10Gr8. With a plan in place for the year all members knew what was expected for the year, but no one expected the infamous LOCKDOWN 2020!!!! This forced us to rethink our projects, meetings and fellowship. First came the first ever online ARTSA 2020 and club meetings becoming our new norm. Faced with these challenges “out of the box thinking” became our focus and have managed to conform to the National regulations and still allow us to Table, providing for our community and still being relevant in these tough times. With the first project of Easter egg collection in place members gathered at The Acres Spar collecting Easter Eggs for our allocated beneficiaries and then came the lockdown. During the lockdown, The Acres Spar, donated fifty (50) food parcels to which we combined the collected Easter eggs and distributed to our various beneficiaries i.e. Bethalsdorp children’s home, Old Age Home, Quadriplegic Association of Eastern Cape and the community of Richmond Hill area. The distribution sparked fellowship and life back into all members and without a heartbeat what was next? When is the next in-person meeting? With energy levels high we moved onto the next project, Winter Knights. In partnership with QuizMaster South Africa, we were able to host an online Music Trivia, first of many “out of the box thinking” we were able to sell 23 tickets and make a small profit of R1090.00 of which R817.50 was allocated towards Winter Knights for the SPCA.

35

The Acres Spar kindly allowed Algoa108 to have a collection and drop-off point of clothes and non-perishable at their store. Additionally, The Acres Spar also contributed 25 non-perishable food boxes towards our project. With a large collection of food and clothes, members got together for a quick fellowship braai to make up food and clothes parcels for distribution. After the braai we proceeded to drive the streets of Port Elizabeth to find those in need. Proving difficult because of the lockdown, we finally found groups of people and were able to distribute to all on the night. Round Table Algoa108 was also able to provide their usual beneficiaries with non-perishable food parcels. With the lockdown restrictions becoming more relaxed, Round Table Algoa108 was quick to take advantage of the opportunity. Another project for Winter Knights, turning our traditional steak evening into a drive through collection of wood and braai packs on Mandela Day. This turned out to be a very successful project selling 88 x 25kg bags of wood and 340 x braai packs. Making a project profit of an estimated R8000.00 of which R6000.00 was donated to 3 beneficiaries. Each of the 3 beneficiaries were handed over 2 trolley full of food and supplies. What does Algoa 108 have planned for the rest of the year? Wait and see in the next edition of the Trunk Tales…..

Round Table Algoa 108 Mandela Braai Day We at Algoa 108 had to think outside the box for some much needed funds for the Winter Knights this year. Mandela Day was looming and South Africa was still under Lockdown. With the Endless support from Chris at Acres Spar and our trusty local wood supplier, we decided to arrange a “Steak & Wood” collection drive-thru fund raiser at the Parks Rugby Club. We managed to make a profit of Eight Thousand Rand (R 8 000.00) selling EightyEight (88) Bags of Wood and an awesome Three Hundred and forty (340) Braai packs. We were fortunate enough to be spoilt with some great winter weather and some cold ones for the day of the Drive-thru, while making some new friends and seeing some old one’s during the collection. All participants were encouraged to upload their fun filled braai pictures onto Algoa 108’s Facebook page. The person with the best picture was spoilt to winning a R500 Gift Voucher from Acres Spar. We were able to make good use of the proceeds of the day, by handing over: ➢

Two Thousand Rand’s (R 2 000.00) worth of Food Parcels to Twinkle Twinkle Children’s Home

Two Thousand Rand’s (R 2 000.00) worth of Ingredients to Margaret’s Soup Kitchen

Two Thousand Rand’s (R 2 000.00) worth of Food Parcels to Quadriplegic Association of South Africa

Thousand Six Hundred Rand’s (R 1 600.00) worth of Dog Food and Blankets to SPCA Uitenhage

After the project, some members got together for some fellowship and celebrated Mandela Day in true South Africa fashion…by joining in the fun with our own braai and well deserved drinks to end of a great day. We would like to thank Chris from Acres Spar and each and every Friend, Family member and Tabler that Supported us on this Day. YIT Paul Ferreia Vice Chairman 2020/21

Algoa 10Greats Winter Knights Project Algoa 10Greats Winter Knights Project hit off at the Acres Spar for the first time in 2020, even though there were tough times with regards to lockdown the members were able to pull together and attend the first collection which took place thanks to Nicole from Acres who assisted in organizing a collection box and posters, there were many donations of tinned food, blankets and old clothes. After a good first collection we were offered to do another Saturday collection from Acres Spar who also contributed food parcels towards the Winter Knights Project, with the donations from the collection trolley which we left for extra donations when we were not present. After the collection of all donations the Chairman kindly opened up his house to the members so they could make up parcels for the distribution that night after a little fellowship braai, During the course of the distribution it was hard at the beginning but after driving around and hard searching we

started to find the people that were in need and started distributing which brought smiles and happiness in tough times as we have today.

38

The last of the parcels were made up into larger fewer parcels which we ended up giving to beneficiaries of our choice. At the end of completing the Winter Knights Project we were quite happy and honoured of what we accomplished during these difficult times and truly became a Winter Knight. Additionally, Acres Spar donated 25 boxes of non-perishable food items that Round Table Algoa108

was able to add to the already contributions donated by the patrons on the day. Round Table Algoa108 was able to donate an estimated amount of R 10 000.00 worth of food to various beneficiaries namely i.e. Twinkle Twinkle Childrens Home in Betalsdorp, Quadriplegic Association of Eastern Cape, Margrets Soup Kitchen in Sydenham and a Soup Kitchen in Algoa Park of which was handed over to all beneficiaries at our Mandela Day Braai Project. Chairman’s Feedback Somerset Oos 113 Membership numbers: We are standing at 5 members in Somerset East 113 table Pipeliners:

No current pipeliners Socials: Our biggest social of the year was the hunt at Meybhurgs dam where Stefan organised a hunt for us. It was an amazing weekend filled with friendship and jokes around the fire until the early hours of the morning. The lead was hanging properly with 4 gemsbuck and 21 springbuck hanging at the end of the weekend. Our other socials where on the down low because of Covid. Projects: We as Somerset 113 have been busy during the lockdown period. There was a Covid breakout at the old age home and we as Somerset 113 sponsored cleaning materials and 40kg of meat to assist the old age home during this difficult time. We also sponsored Shoes and clothes to a children’s home to the value of R6000 for our annual Winter Knights project where we where met with excited faces of young boys and girls receiving their own new pair of shoes for the first time in their lives. It was a sad sight to see, but we left with a happy heart knowing that these children appreciated the new shoes and clothes that they needed desperately. There is a long time to go before everything turns back to normal, but we are ready for the challenges ahead and will face it head on. Yours in table Paul Zwiegers Chairman Somerset East 113

The men from 113 Somerset East have been busy the last few months, operating hard in their area. With Covid having millions on their knees and getting the best of most of us. With no social gatherings the way of getting an income for the Table is very challenging nowadays. Donation and open hearts go a long way, one of our biggest fund raisers was just before Covid struck so we were lucky. We received a call from our local orphanage in big need of shoes for the kids. As Somerset is known for extremely cold winter's you can't go without a pair of shoes. We had a meeting and started putting ideas together on how, what and when.

We decided on sneakers as it is something that's like a DKW (Dans, kerk en werk) and the kids are able to use it everywhere. We donated 19 pairs of shoes together with baby clothing and winter jackets for the kids sponsored by a very generous person. While we were unpacking all the shoes on the table the kids stood around us in awe. The facial expression was priceless and the appreciation was overwhelming, Tabling keeps you humble! Chairman Update – PE West 142 PE West have been able to successfully pull off x3 projects so far this year even during these unforeseen times of Covid-19. We started the new year with our EASTER EGG COLLECTION, then went straight into our UBUNTU project which was in the middle of the Pandemic and then finally finished off our National WINTER KNIGHTS project on 8th August. It’s really been one of those years I will remember as the work that has been done so far this year has been very rewarding to help those in need and be so involved with food parcel handovers, collections etc. Our membership is still on 7 members with 3 very keen visitors that have been frequenting our meetings with 1 of those recently being inducted into Pipeliner. We are confident that the other 2 will follow suit very soon. We also have very exciting news that our very own Clubhouse is to built at our clubs premises at Londt Park. Construction is set to start on 1st September. This was always our intention from the day we sold our Newton Park house and it’s just awesome to see that vision come to light and it will really help get our tradition back. We have been lucky that the last 2 months we have been able to hold meeting again around a table and not via ZOOM and look forward to some more raids from the other tables. PE West 142 is open for Raiding, just bring your own booze! LOL We have some exciting things lined up in the coming months, watch this space! YIT Jean-Pierre du Plessis Chairman PE West 142

Callie Pipeliner Trunktale My journey with Table started in 2013 (dates is a bit vague in my memory), my previous employer at Gotcha Paintball Range, Jacques Cloete from Pretoria 136 got me interested in joining Table. I've seen all the projects that he was doing with Table, and since I already taken so much from the community I really wanted to give back. Jacques invited me to meetings so I can see what Table is all about, and to bust a few myths that has been falsely created. Unfortunately due to my new employment, my working hours and dates made it impossible to attend meetings and projects, I informed Jacques that I would not be able to continue with only a half commitment, but I've spoken to Chris Merts who worked with us at Gotcha and he is also very interested in joining Table, Chris went on to become the Chairman of Pretoria 136. I've always given back to the community through direct support to people close to me. When I came to the realization that I can do so much more through Table I decided to join again. I was offered a new position in East London as a temporary place of work to eventually move on to PE after a few months. When I settled in after moving to PE and knew I was ready to give my full participation to Table, I got hold of Johan Bruwer, who put me in touch with Cornel Strydom from PE West 142 and what I've seen in the past few months in what this Table is doing for the community, I know I've found my Table home. Ubuntu Project As the term “Ubuntu” is explicitly explained as “I am because you are.” This is synonymous with the endeavors displayed by the Round Table PE West 142 Tablers during this difficult and challenging times of COVID-19. When South Africa was initially placed on 21 days lockdown in March 2020, our attempts to assist the community were even at a greater challenge. As industrious as we are in our attempts, we delved for more different and creative ways to still deliver on our mandate as the need grew with challenges our community faced. We appealed to our immediate family members, colleagues and the general public for either donations, pledges, clothing and non-perishable food items. As much as we have realized the country and the world in general faced uncertainty in terms of employment security. We were successful in our attempts and saw many families, children’s homes and frail care centers benefiting from the Ubuntu Project. We were successful in delivering faces masks to a MTR Smith Children’s Haven. It was indeed a heartfelt gesture as the means for millions of South Africans to prevent and protect themselves from COVID19 is a daily struggle. Especially for those less fortunate. As we embarked on this Ubuntu journey, the requests flooded in for food donations within our community. Under strict regulations, we could deliver food items to families who had below the basic means to survive. “ The closest thing to being cared for is to care for someone else” – Carson McCullers This was indeed displayed when we came across the Cotswold Frail Care Center. 27 June 2020, on a chilly winter morning, the PE West 142 boys in their gentlemen camaraderie, pulled in the frail care home with groceries, cleaning items and even offered to put up a signage so the center can be visible. This was welcomed by gracious hearts of two dedicated staff members who were present at the time. This proves one thing, when our efforts are combined, great results are a definite.

48

The journey for that day didn’t just end there. A mere 7 kilometers away, lies a community so drug and crime stricken, a sight for sore eyes with the highest rate of unemployment, poverty, gang related violence and shootings. Bethelsdorp and Bloemendaal extensions. On this project we have collaborated wit the Ladies Circle and #4OurKidsPE with a soup kitchen that saw hundreds of families receiving a warm meal. As hearty as was the soup, so felt our own hearts as the aromas of love, dedication and respect for ones life manifested the schools grounds where the soup kitchen was held. Under these difficult and trying times, our #UbuntuProject was indeed a project of Ubuntu. Round Table PE West, is proud to announce, with the scores of challenges placed upon us, we have managed to spend close to R25 000.00 to such projects during this COVID19 pandemic. We would also like to thank our supporters, donors and the community at large for diffing deep in their hearts to support us so we can continue being is support to many more families in the near future. These projects are synonymous with the message for this year. #ImpactfulChange

End... Yours in Table Theo Klassen

Easter Egg collection – Part 1 We had great plans for Easter this year which included a proper collection at Checkers Bay West Mall followed by the donation of the eggs to EP Children’s Home. This handover was to be done at our clubhouse hosting all the kids for an “Easter Hunt” whilst they also enjoy themselves on our newly built Jungle gym that we sponsored to Londt Park.

These ideas had to be quickly adjusted as Covid-19 caught us all off-guard and our collection was cancelled at Checkers Bay West Mall due to Covid regulations etc. We then decided over a project meeting via ZOOM, the now normal way of meeting each other that we still try and do something for the kids at EP Children’s Home and it was decided that we personally donate monies and use that to buy the kids some Easter eggs. We managed to raise R4000 through tablers & visitors personal donations! We then purchased Easter eggs to that value and donated it to the home. Unfortunately we could not be present at the handover as there were strict Covid-19 proto-calls which we gladly understood. We have informed the EP Children’s home of our intention to host them at our clubhouse Playground as soon as it is safe to do so. We will keep you updated with the progress and give you an updated report once we have successfully hosted them at the Playground. YIT Jean-Pierre du Plessis Chairman PE West

Trunk Tales Report – PE West 142 collaborates with 4OurKids and PE Pearls With the pandemic ruining many of our table plans, we thought it would be best to increase

our efforts with Winter Knights this year after being approached by Ladies Circle to assist with a soup kitchen. We were informed of a Soup Kitchen the Pearls are planning to assist with donations and asked whether we could lend a hand. This year we are shifting focus to get more involved in groundwork projects which touch the heart, therefore, this request immediately took our attention. The soup kitchen is managed by 4OurKids, an informal charity organisation started by some of the teachers at Astra Primary School in Bloemendal. They feed hundreds of needy families weekly from the premises of Astra Primary School. The school is based in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth and a majority, very poor community. The meals provided are often the only meals these recipients have had for days. We voted that we will support the initiative with a food donation to the value of R1,500 and offered our “manpower” with the serving of the food. Early Saturday morning 6 of our tablers missioned to school to set up for the day. Unfortunately, it was another windy day in PE which meant that our regalia was practically cemented down to sustain the winds, but we eventually managed to keep them from escaping.

I was impressed by the professionalism and structure of the donations. All recipients lined up outside the facility in an orderly fashion awaiting their parcel. Once the staff was ready to go, the people, mostly small children, started coming through. As always it breaks one's heart when you see the effects of poverty, especially when it is kids. The majority of the kids were between the ages of 3 and 12. We have further assisted the charity with 40 bags of oranges generously donated by our brothers of Kirkwood 78. Thank you gentleman for your donation! This event had such an impact on our tablers that we decided to keep them as an ongoing beneficiary for the remainder of the year. Should you wish to get involved, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit the 4OurKids Facebook page. YIT Cornel Strydom PE West 142 - Social

142 Support for Cotswold Frail Care Home Request for assistance from Cotswold Frail Care Home came through from the Round Table EP Area Facebook page. Round Table PE West 142 was quick on it and make contact with the home to better understand the operations and their needs. Cotswold Frail Care Home was established by Sr Ellen whom has been into nursing her entire career and for love of caring she started the home in her house in the residential area of Cotswold Port Elizabeth. Members of Round Table PE West 142 were touched by the amazing work Sr Ellen and her caregivers are doing all by themselves. One could sense the love and pride! As an NGO the home is dependent on sponsors to care for the elderly, Round Table PE West 142 thought it well to assist them under our “Ubuntu” project the table was running within the early stages of the lockdown. Members voted in to assist the home with non-perishable food, toiletries and cleaning goods worth R4000.00. They were overwhelmed and grateful for the assistance, they knew that we were going to assist but not to this extent. I quote the below message received. “We so so thankful for the person you are you blessed us and our old age home ...you and the team will be blessed no amount of words can express our gratitude ...and then you very much for the vouchers it's going to help me and my family thank you again. God bless, me and Sr Ellen were in tears because of joy” Round Table PE West 142 went a little further and assisted the caregivers to show appreciation for what they are doing and donated a R2000 voucher to each of the them. We as a table are looking at supporting the home on an annual basis were we can, this might include running specific projects for them. Round Table PE West 142 will also assist with designing and installing signage outside the home. Pienaar Allers Round Table PE West 142 Vice Chairman

Chairman’s report Port Alfred 177 With the new table year off to a rocky start, the tablers at Port Alfred remained positive and continued to adapt to the new way of life we found ourselves in. With our hands basically chopped off and no social gathering allowed, one of our tablers, JP de Klerk, thought of a R50 challenge, much in line with the egg challenge going around. It gained momentum very quickly and the table managed to raise in excess of R10 000. The funds raised, made it possible for us to donate R10000 to Ndlambe lockdown group, which assisted families in need, in the Port Alfred area, with food parcels. The challenge actually drew some international interest, which lead to a 1777 Euro donation being made by the German 177 41ers. How this money will be donated is still being planned, but will be done in due course. Keeping with the momentum JP also managed to secure a donation of 1 ton of butternut, which was also donated to the above charities . We also managed to host our winter nights but due to our situation we even managed to sneak a meeting and some low key fellowship in before I fell ill with Covid 19. During which time we reverted back to zoom meetings. In that meeting, with the guys being hungry for a bit more fellowship, a plan was hatched to have a takeaway rib evening, which once again, JP ran away with and the table managed to sell 101 portions of ribs and chips. On the 1st of August ribs were braaied and chips fried, and some fellowship and locally sourced craft beer was enjoyed. Our local Lions club even offered their services to man the chip fryer, just to come enjoy some fellowship with us. The evening managed to raise R5000, which went towards furthering aims and objects. During this difficult time, our table remained positive, and adapted to the circumstances, adopted new methods to help our community and will continue to improve the new way of tabling. Take-away Rib project On the 1st of August 2020, Port Alfred Round Table 177 held a take-away ribs and chips evening to further the aims and objectives of our Table. I, JP De Klerk, decided to run with the event idea from our Chairman, Jacques Scheepers.

We sold an astounding 101 tickets! Approximately 50 man hours went in to this event. Despite slightly under-catering, we still managed to have a wonderful and successful event. The Port Alfred Lions members happily assisted us with the event as they are always willing to aid the community in any way possible. We managed to make a profit of R4334,00. I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the Tablers and Lions who assisted in making this event the success that it was.

Port Alfred 177 local Ndlambe Support Group It was the evening of Monday, the 13th of April, when my wife and I came up with a brilliant idea. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemonium and the crazy ‘Egg Challenge’ that was doing its rounds, we thought of a slightly different Challenge. As most of the world is suffering at the moment at the hands of the COVID Pandemic, we thought it fitting to try and do something for those a little closer to home. I then decided to kick off a new challenge in support of our local Ndlambe Lockdown Support Group who are raising funds to support our local poverty-stricken community and those in need. Not realising it at the time that my Facebook video, whereby I nominated others to donate a small amount of R50 to the Fund, would be such a big hit! In this video, I showed just how easy it was to donate funds via Internet Banking – also an easily accessible action at this point in time. Our local community, fellow Tablers and friends from far and wide, have been remarkable in donating to this amazing cause! To date we have managed to raise over R11 000! A massive thank you must go to all those who are donating to such worthy causes at this time. It is because of YOU that our local communities are pulling together and supporting those who really need it through this uncertain time.

AREA CHAIRMAN’s VISIT On Saturday, 01/08/20, Adelaide 194 had the honour of hosting our E.P Area chairman Johan “Cheetah” Bruwer in Adelaide. We started our day at 07:30 with a hunt in Bedford that was organised by 194 Chairman Nico “Sniper” Schneider. It wasn’t long, until the 1 st buck was shot. We then proceeded to look for more springbuck and this is where the fun started as the wind was also not in our favour and made it a very interesting hunting session. By 12:00pm we decided to pull over for some lunch, where we enjoyed some homemade burgers and chatted about the interesting shots that were fired. At around 15:00pm, with 6 springbuck and 1 Impala ram in the bag, we ended the hunt. It was an awesome day in the field, with a lot of laughs and some awesome fellowship, but that’s not where it ended, as we headed back to Molweni, just outside Adelaide where we were welcomed by a lovely campfire. We cracked a few beers and sat down to have our monthly meeting with our Area chairman. Wessel Du Randt was also properly welcomed into table and inducted by Mr Area Chair himself and was given one of his own personal Pins. Nico was also handed a unique Table Chairman’s shirt with the Area Chairman’s trademark on and a personal Pin. We ended off the evening with some fellowship around the campfire and enjoyed a braai from 194’s Braai master (Me - ☺), where we all then head out homeward bound before the 22:00pm curfew. Mr Area Chair had the honour of staying the night at the lodge at Molweni.

I would like to thank all the 194 boys who helped to make the day one for the books, also to Nico who had organised the hunt and the lodge for Johan. A big thank to Johan for allowing us to host him and to make his Chairman’s year just that little more enjoyable, as we all know COVID-19 has not made it an easy year for him. To all our fellow tablers please stay safe and stay strong YIT Nico Schneider Chairman 2020/2021 Adelaide 194

WINTER KNIGHTS 2020 So, we are all aware of the current pandemic we are facing. With that being said, we as Round Table Adelaide 194, have decided to do a Winter Knights project, the COVID way !!! A THANK YOU TO OUR 194 CHAIRMAN. Adelaide 194 would like to make use of this opportunity to send a BIG THANK YOU out to our Chairman, Nico Schneider for your hard work and phenomenal leadership that you have shown thus far. Not only did you stand up during the lockdown to make a plan for those in need, you went the extra mile to help other Tables in need of support. You stood up when the rest of us went into hiding and helped give a very stressed community a little hope in these dark times. Even though they might not know it came from Table but in our hearts, we know we helped more than we will ever know. You, out of your own went and got nappies for a disabled child without saying a word and YES, Mr Chair, I have connections that relayed this act of unselfish kindness to myself. AND, that my friends is what Table brings out of Men. I, with the rest of the guys at 194, are extremely proud of you and again would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to you for leading us to greater heights.

Stand tall and stand proud, “JY IS N YSTER MY MAAT” We salute you “SNIPER” Thank you Yours in Table Andre Manthe Vice-Chairman 2020/21

Chairman's Feedback Although we are living in a world that has changed, it is simply amazing to see how tablers have learnt to adapt in a time when there are more in need than ever. This is the beauty of table, it’s that never say die attitude. That bond you have with your fellow tablers – to pick them up when times are challenging. The truth of that matter is that we each support and spur one another on to be better tablers, better leaders and better supporters of our communities. I for one am amazed how our table has performed during this time. From food and clothes handouts, to dog food and ladies projects. I am really proud to be part of Zwartkops 195, and Round Table as a whole. Case in point is our Zwartkops food parcel project we ran for the Swartkops area. Not only was this a special project, it was also run by a pipeliner and son of an ex Zwartkops chairman (1989 – 1990), Marius Olivier! Carl has table and Zwartkops blood in him which bodes very well for Zwartkops!

And on this subject of new blood. We have had an influx of great guests this year and have just made David a pipeliner “at” the Winter Conference. David “Dodgy Dave” has shown immediate promise and passion for this organisation. The future is good for Zwartkops! I am proud to say that our stand out project is the one we are currently running, Spring-day for Springbok which was put together by Duncan Morris. Nico was kind enough to supply 2 springboks and donate them to our table in order to run a project The gents, legs and 41’rs have really put a lot of effort into this project and this is showing by the amazing response with amazing ticket sales! At this rate, we are going to able to make a substantial donation to the Missionvale Care centre which is in desperate need of food and other donations. As the social table, we more than most cant wait for the fellowship to be in full force again! Keep safe and keep tabling. Yours in table Kyle “Daywalker” Waller Chairman Zwartkops 195

Springbok for Spring Day Raffle Zwartkops 195 recently ran a phenomenally successful “Springbok for Spring day raffle”, all in aid of Missionvale in Port Elizabeth. As we know, Covid times has forced us to think outside the box, and our very own Duncan “G-Nome” Morris, came up with and ran this awesome project! The support was incredible as ticket purchasers where most probably drooling at the prospect of winning a large amount of the best Droewors from Adelaide! Missionvale Care Centre is a non-profit organisation operating in the township of Missionvale in Port Elizabeth. This organisation has been close to our heart as one of our 41’rs, Paul Bonus’s wife works at the centre. Linda Bonus informed us that the centre was in desperate need of blankets, so the decision was made that proceeds from this project would be used to purchase and donate blankets to the Care Centre. Zwartkops went into full swing with our tablers, legs and 41’rs getting stuck into ticket selling. The efforts where well worth it as over R 10 000 raised, enabling us to purchase just over 100 blankets! A live draw took place on Spring day, 1st of September via Facebook.

The winners were:

3rd place, Marius Olivier

1st place Vianoric Snyman 2nd Jason Forlee from Memories

Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all that supported!☺☺

65

The blanket handover took place on 11th September, much to the delight of the Missionvale staff., we managed to buy a 104 Blankets and donate them to Mission vale.

We would like to especially thank Nico from Round Table Adelaide 194 for the donation of the 2 springboks for the raffle. Nico jou yster! We really appreciated you support and thank you and your table.

The 195 Copper Banner A 195 tradition that was started by one of the Zwartkops 195 charter members, Mr Arthur Ahlschlager, who manufactured the original mould to make the sought after 195 copper banners. This same mould was used and is still used today to make the banners. Per account of a Zwartkops 41’er, there was a tradition in 195 to hold a banner making event. The Tablers would get together, each responsible for a part of the process. The heaviest gents were in charge of pressing the shape out of the banners as this was originally done by placing the copper film in the mould and then the heaviest bloke in Table will stand on the mould to press out the shape, sometimes even with another Tabler on his back to supply the extra weight. The next team will be responsible for defining the outlines even further with a copper art tool while another team will be preparing the beeswax for the filling. Finally, the last team will be responsible for painting the crabs using a small paint brush and glass stain. However, keeping to 195 tradition, the drinks were flowing during the process and later the heavy blokes could not stand on the mould anymore. Luckily then the tradition to use a vehicle to drive over the mould was born. Unfortunately, there was no redemption for the men who were in charge of painting the crabs as the unsteady hands resulted in quite a high reject rate. It was then decided that painting of the banners should be left to one designated Tabler to do later at home in his own time.

67

Through the years, the unique Zwartkops 195 copper banner became the most sought-after banner in the whole of RTSA and quite often Tabler’s from other areas first question when they meet a 195’er was: “What do I have to do to get one of your copper banners?” Even international Tablers that came through Port Elizabeth and was hosted by Zwartkops were impressed by the uniqueness of the banner. Unfortunately, the mould was misplaced for years, however it made its way back to me. I decided to reignite the tradition of making the Zwartkops 195 copper banners. So far I’ve learnt the process to create these wonderful banners. Being a heavy myself, I’m able to press the mould myself, afterwards defining the outlines. I have however replaced the beeswax with fiberglass which resulted in a lighter and stronger banner. Through trial and error however I realised that I’m not the best painter…I will therefore be outsourcing the painting of the banners to my wife. During the August 2020 business meeting, we had the privilege to hand over the first of the new copper crab banners to Brendon “Alpha male” Stevens. The handover was done by my dad, 41’er Marius Olivier, who used to be in charge of making the copper banners when he was still an active Zwartkops 195 member. Brendon, a Zwartkops 195 legend and 41’er, will be leaving Port Elizabeth to go to Johannesburg. We wish Brendon all the best in his new endeavour. In conclusion, all we want to know is, what will you do to get a Zwartkops 195 copper banner? Carl Olivier 195 Pipe-liner

Well it certainly has been quite the year, and I almost was Table Chair for it too. I think I dodged a bullet there as Ockie so kindly asked if he could be Chair for his final year. And he didn’t even have to ask kindly, I wasn’t keen. Ya most of you have seen me at several area functions, but something you

may not know, I have been a member since 2011, Ockie actually was the one who inducted me into Table, and then in 2012 I was secretary, and for the last several years have successfully dodged the Chair, and plan to do so a little longer if I’m lucky. So to report a little, we haven’t missed a meeting doing several on zoom when needed, which was cool as Jared our one member in pretty much Mozambique could join for a change. As he has been struggling with the commute and arriving on time.

On the projects front we had a really successful Winter Knights, handing out hand sanitizer to people going into out local space, which encouraged people to support us. This was run by our newest member Chris Ovens, who did a jolly good day of it. We have also had Alan now past president return to us with all the gifts he planned to hand out to his exe to us, which was nice of him. We have done a bowls day with Grahamstown, but that was days before lockdown one, and as such feels like it was a lifetime ago. It was a merry day of fun, with Port Alfred also joining in. We have even done some rather unusual exchanges with Guillym (me) swapping tops with Sean Troutman in our little club house by the sea. I know looking at that photo I feel like this was years ago, but it was just before lock down number one, and as such may as well be considered as in the last decade. And on the more reporting on internal affairs within our Table, we have one more kid on the way, due to arrive early March 2021, to the Theron’s. Then we have had a few birthdays, Ockies 40th was a bitter sweet celebration, as it marks the journey to stepping away from Table and becoming a 41er. Sadly I think Alan will be next, but if we manage to wrangle things we could find a loop hole to keep Mr Malan for another year. Shhh.. And lastly Fab’s our ever present 41er, who has actually become somewhat less ever present turned 50. So a few of us popped past to wish he well. Guillym Theron, not a Chairman

Capitation Project The lockdown forced us to become creative in our attempt to raise funds. We decided to slaughter an ox and then process, pack and sell it ourselves with the profits going towards our Capfees. After being busy for a while we developed a new respect for the meat on our plates – meat processing and packaging is much harder work than we thought. We banded together and with the help of the ladies completed what we set out to do. Phonecalls and WhatsApp messages was sent out to local friends, family and acquaintances and we came pretty close to selling all that was available. A Lockdown-compliant delivery run later and we were done Working hard together to accomplish our goal has brought us closer as Tablers – unfortunately we couldn’t celebrate our newfound camaraderie with a braai due to Lockdown.

Assisting a farmer While the drought experienced in the Eastern Cape is no longer classified as a disaster it does not mean that the lasting effects is no longer experienced by some farmers. Round Table Jeffreys Bay / Humansdorp 252 donated a small load of feed to a farmer in need. While it will not eliminate the need of the farmer it has provided much needed temporary relief.

A surprise birthday We had a birthday within our ranks and hosted a surprise party in the bush. Having not seen each other in a while it was a great fellowship experience. Hand sanitizer makes a great fire-starter YIT Devan Gerber Secretary 2020/21

Mandela Day In celebration of Mandela Day this year, PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 spent our 67+ minutes strolling the sandy shoreline of Blue Horizon Bay, doing a beach clean-up. We filled 2 black bags with the rubbish that was found lying around. After our walk back to the car park, we took a drive to our Chairlady’s house for a quick cup of coffee to end a productive morning. “The greatest danger to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” Robert Swan

Saving Lives Drop by Drop A couple of Fairytale creatures resembling the ladies of PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 met outside the SANBS Walker Drive on Saturday 25th July to donate our monthly pint of blood. A Bunny, a Cat and a Fairy entered the building to do our part in saving lives drop by drop, while the Grinch stayed behind for support. We enjoy making our blood donations fun and entertaining by dressing up. It adds to the Fellowship, Fun and Service which is what being a Circler is all about. It also takes the focus off of the bee sting effect!

CHOC Fundraiser – July 2020 PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19’s Project for the month of July was to raise funds for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation in Port Elizabeth in the form of a Colour & Shave initiative. We asked for the support of members of the community in the form of monetary donations with the incentives that should we reach the target of R3000 that Chantal would colour her hair a funky colour, and Cindy would shave her hair on reaching a target of R5 000. We are so grateful to have reached both our targets, and within record time no less. Chantal looked as pretty as a peacock as she opted for Jade Blue and dyed her hair on 14 July just after reaching the first target, while Cindy’s shave took place after our blood donation on Saturday 25th July.We would like to thank everyone who supported us and this great initiative. We are going to make such a difference in the lives of the little Cancer warriors, and we could not 85 do it without your help, for this we are ever grateful.

LCSA AGM & President’s Address, Awards and Induction PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 had a great time "attending" the LCSA AGM held on 23 May 2020 via Zoom. We had to improvise due to lockdown to be able to wear the same hats, we opted for origami hats which we made for the occasion. After a productive LCSA AGM, the ladies of PE Pearls LC19 got dolled up to attend the President's Address, Awards and Induction Zoom Function. Congratulations to the outgoing and incoming Executive Board and Councillors, as well as the Circlers and Circles for their various awards. It was a proud moment for us as we received the following awards: LCSA Circle of the Year 2019/20 Ladies Circle International Fundraising Day Trophy 2019/20, Membership Trophy2019/20 and, Congratulations to Chantal Myburgh for being awarded the Circler of the Year 2019/20 Trophy!

Brown Flats Saturday 6th June was an early start for the ladies of PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 as we all met up at the Brown Flats to donate a trailer full of clothing and household items to the residents. We then moved on to Taryn’s house for a cup of coffee and a meeting of minds to discuss the next project. Throughout the year Ladies Circle get many requests for various items. A special thanks goes out to the members of the community who always support us by donating unwanted items towards our causes. It is much appreciated. Together we do make a difference!

Bringing Care and Winter Warmth to the Community Sunday is Funday! On Sunday 14th June the ladies of PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 spent a fun, productive day together. We started the day off with some good clean fun by donating monthly cleaning products to Protea Child Care Centre. It was a beautiful sunny day, although a bit chilly, so we took a scenic drive along Maitlands beachfront on our way to our Chairlady’s farm, where we spent the rest of the day chatting, drinking lots of coffee and making scarves to donate to our Round Table Side-by-Side brothers for their Winter Knights project

PE Pearls LC19 donated the scarves that we made, along with clothing donated to the cause by members of the public and non-perishable food, to the 3 local PE Tables, namely Round Table Algoa 108, Round Table PE West 142 and Round Table Zwartkops 195. Winter Knights is a hands-on National project where Round Table support their local communities by collecting donations from the public to give back to those in need. 4OurKidsPE / Winter Knights Soup Kitchen (Side-by-Side) Saturday 27th June 2020 was a crisp winter’s morning as the ladies of PE Pearls Ladies Circle No. 19 set forth on their journey to join forces with the valiant Winter Knights of Round Table No. 142 on their heroic Side-by-Side quest to assist the team from #4OurKidsPE with their soup kitchen, bringing some warmth and comfort to the less fortunate children of Bloemendal. We spent the morning assisting the team members of #4OurKidsPE in dishing up bowls of rice and stew that they had cooked, which we then handed out along with a cup of juice, to the kids that live in the area. Over 100 hungry tummies were fed. “When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible” Howard Schultz

C.V.C Weekend Round table an organisation that believes in developing fellowship among young men. Being a tabler means that you have an extended family which lives around the world where you have not met all of your siblings as yet. The lockdown was very hard when it came to tabling, so when we found out that the CVC weekend was a go, I knew it would be a blast as there was a massive thirst for some fellowship. Royden Horne and Terence Bellingham greeted us in a very old chapel in the middle of no where about 20 km out Grahamstown. There were some very wounded looking gentleman from the great fellowship that happened the night before. Bhavesh Tiekam looked the most wounded, well done! Job done ☺ The meeting is designed to give the future Mr Area Chairman a chance to chair a meeting. The meeting is called the C.V.C which is Chairman Vice Chairman meeting which is a training forum for the future table chairman to learn about the year ahead and to give the future Vice chairman a chance to see what is expected of him in his year as chairman. Well done Cornel “Sidestep” Strydom, it was a great success, you can be proud of yourself. The meeting was not only very professionally run but there was a lot of humour in it as well which always helps ☺ Congratulation to the currently table chairman for their year so far. With all of the odds stacked against you, you have still managed to table and do such great work in your communities. Good luck to the future table chairman and well down for putting you hand up. Welcome to our newest brothers which were officially inducted into table by our honourable E.P Area chairman Ryan Dewey and Craig Fourie

We were then taken to accommodation and a what a surprise it was a massive thank you to Royden and his mates from Coombs Views Settlers, Safaris and Bushman’s Gorge for hosting us at wonderful lodges much appreciated. What a slice of heaven both places were , who would have known that such a amazing place was just off the N2 in the middle on no where ☺ 91

Meeting done so it was time to have some much needed fellowship. The fire was lite immediately and every one had a great time. What a great evening with great fellowship, amazing food and even better moments of laughter. Mr Kyle Waller AKA “Daywalker” is a absolute gem and loves lemons especially when used as eye drops. Bavesh “Bavi” Teikam is always the life of the party and party we did. Once again thank you to the ladies and gents from GHT 11, we had such a great time and I really appreciate the effort put in ☺ Until the spring conference, can’t wait.☺ YIT Duncan “G-Nome Morris Trunk Tales Editor 2020/21
