Electrical Junction Boxes at Home There are many kinds of electrical junction boxes available in the market of which the most common are the ones used in the electrical wiring systems of houses. These are available in hardware stores for DIYers and is used for ceiling fans and heavy light fixtures. 2. Metal and Plastic Junction Boxes When using a metal conduit for the wiring, a metal junction box may be necessary. This box and the conduit, together, can be used as grounding. If a non-metallic sheath cable is used then either a plastic junction box or a metallic one could be used. 3. Round Pan Junction Box These are typically ½ or ž inches deep and are used for lighting fixtures that are either for the ceiling or to be mounted on a wall. The mounted fixtures should not be too heavy in this case. If it is specially rated, then some of these junction boxes may also be used for ceiling fans.
