Message from the Mayor The
Porthcawl
Jazz
Welcome
Festival has been steadily
growing from strength to
strength over the past sixteen
years and each year it amazes me the
quality and talent of artists taking part.
This year is a departure from the past as the Festival is using a new venue and format at the Hi-Tide Inn.
JTQ will headline the start of the Festival at the Grand Pavilion.
Porthcawl is very proud of the way that the Jazz Festival has grown in stature over the years and is recognized as being one of the premier jazz festivals in Wales.
Enjoy the Festival, and indeed enjoy the pleasures of Porthcawl and I hope to see you next year.
Robert C. Lee- Mayor of Porthcawl
Directorâs Greeting
Welcome to Porthcawlâs 2017 Big Seaside Jazz & Blues Weekender. This year weâve made some major changes to the traditional Porthcawl Jazz Festival format. First up, the main centre for the 2017 event will be the Hi-Tide Inn at Coney Beach. This well established function suite offers two great performance rooms each having a capacity of around 200, 3 bars and a large lounge/dining area serving meals and drinks throughout the day and on into the evening. Our good friends at The Grand Pavilion continue to play an important role in the Festival by hosting the headline launch concert on Friday 7 April which features the James Taylor Quartet. Master Hammond organist James and his Quartet feature an astonishing array of instruments and cover a huge range of styles from jazz funk, fusion, groove and soul to rhythm and blues with a touch of classical thrown in for good measure. A unique experience not to be missed. The main theme of the Hi-Tide shows is a blend of favourite Festival bands who have wowed capacity audiences over the years and exciting new talents appearing at Porthcawl for the first time. With ticket prices from ÂŁ5 per single show, ÂŁ10 and ÂŁ15 for day tickets or the full Monty â a Festival Patron ticket for ÂŁ40 covering all concerts including James Taylor â value for money this year is better than ever. Especial thanks as ever go to our venues, artists, sponsors, patrons, volunteers and advertisers without whom the event could not take place. Enjoy a wonderful weekend.
All good wishes, Wayne Warlow â Festival Director
