DAILY REPORT 29th MAY 2014

Global markets at a glance The broader FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares closed 0.1 % lower at 1,377.83 pts after hitting its highest level in more than six years on Tuesday. The index has been supported by an improvement in economic data from the United States and expectations of more policy easing by the ECB. Asian shares consolidated their recent gains on Thursday while global bond prices surged, pushing their yields to multi-month lows, both supported by expectations of easy monetary policy. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS stood flat near oneyear high hit on Wednesday, while Japan's Nikkei share average .N225 shed 0.5 % after gains after five straight days of gains. Wall Street Update The S&P 500 snapped a four-session winning streak on Wednesday to end just shy of a third straight record closing high. The benchmark index had gained for four straight sessions as investors' appetite for equities has been buoyed by supportive U.S. economic data recently and expectations of monetary easing by the European Central Bank. The 10-year U.S. Treasury note's yield slipped below 2.44 %, its lowest level since July. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 42.32 pts or 0.25 %, to 16,633.18. The S&P 500 lost 2.13 pts or 0.11 %, to end at 1,909.78. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 11.99 pts or 0.28 %, to 4,225.08. Previous day Roundup After trading in 40 pts range, the 50-share NSE Nifty closed flat on Wednesday ahead of expiry of May derivative contracts on Thursday but strong buying action was back in broader space after a two-day fall.
