Global markets at a glance European shares eked out small gains in thin, choppy trade on Friday, helping one key euro zone index of blue chips record its biggest monthly rise since February. Most European bourses closed off their morning highsEuro zone inflation dropped as expected to a fresh five-year low in August The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares closed 0.3% higher at 1,373.82 pts, having traded as high as 1,376.58 points before the euro zone inflation data. Asian shares slumped in early trading on Friday, after flaring Ukraine tensions ruined investors' appetite for risk and bolstered the safe-haven yen. Asian stock markets rose on Monday as a positive handover from Wall Street offset disappointing Chinese factory activity data. Shanghai Composite jumped 0.25% or 5.60pts at 2,222.80. Hang Seng added 0.47% or 116.34pts at 24,858.40. Nikkei rose 0.28% or 43.19 pts at 15,467.78. Taiwan Weighted surged 1.37% or 126.72pts at 9,380.10. Singapore's STI was flat at 3,325.93. South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 2,068.11 Wall Street US stocks closed out a strong month on a quiet note on Friday, with the S&P 500 posting a modest gain to close at a new record as the latest positive data helped extend a rally that had been briefly threatened by overseas concerns. The DJI rose 18.88 points, or 0.11 percent, to 17,098.45, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 6.63 pts, or 0.33%, to 2,003.37 and the Nasdaq added 22.58 points, or 0.5%, to 4,580.27.

Stocks at 52 Week’s high Previous day Roundup Equity benchmarks ended at new closing high on Thursday. The Sensex rose 77.96 pts to 26638.11 led by capital goods, FMCG, oil & gas and private banks. The Nifty closed above the 7950 on the expiry day for August derivative contracts, up 18.30 pts at 7954.35. The BSE Midcap index underperformed benchmarks, falling 0.3%. About 1385 shares have advanced, 1546 shares declined, 116 shares are unchanged.
