Global markets at a glance Asian stock markets were lower on Thursday, as a disappointing overnight session on Wall Street dampened sentiment. During late Asian trade, Hong Kong's Hang Seng dipped 0.45%, China's Shanghai Composite slumped 0.14%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.46% lower, while Japan's Nikkei 225 ended down 0.64%. Asia was given a negative lead from the U.S., where the Dow and S&P 500 fell from all-time highs amid concerns over global growth prospects and escalating violence in Iraq. Wall Street Update US stocks fell on Thursday as concerns escalated about Iraq and after disappointing economic data on consumers and the labor market. Major US stock indexes ended off their session lows but with the day's decline, the S&P 500 was down for three straight sessions for the first time since early April. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 109.88 points or 0.65 percent, to 16,734, the S&P 500 lost 13.79 points or 0.71 percent, to 1,930.1 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 34.299 points or 0.79 percent, to 4,297.633. The Dow touched an intraday low at 16,723.73, while the S&P 500 fell as low as 1,928.27 and the Nasdaq slid to a session low at 4,289.18. In macroeconomic news, retail sales rose 0.3 percent in May, half the growth rate that economists had forecast. Americans' new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week. Previous day Roundup After a choppy day, the market ended marginally higher. The Sensex was up 102.32 points at 25576.21 and the Nifty was up 23.05 points at 7649.90. About 1749 shares advanced, 1361 shares declined and 81 shares were unchanged. Bharti lost 4 percent while Infosys was down 1 percent at close. Axis Bank, Coal India, Bhel are other major losers in the Sensex. Among the gainers are Hindalco, Sun Pharma, HDFC twins and Maruti are major gainers in the Sensex Index stats The Market was very volatile in last session. The sartorial indices performed as follow; Consumer Durables [down – 1.45 pts], Capital Goods [up 12.72 pts], PSU [down –17.85 pts], FMCG [up 31.35 pts], Realty [down-22 pts], Power [down- 22 pts], Auto [up 92.19 pts], Healthcare [up 148.24 pts], IT [up 21.18 pts], Metals [up 14.57 pts], TECK [down9.48 pts], Oil& Gas [down-16.90 pts].
