EPCMiddle Mission Trip by Thomas Clanton

Easley Presbyterian Middle School Youth spent the week of August 1-5 serving the city of Asheville through the ministry of Asheville Youth Missions. 16 youth and their chaperones slept on floors at First Presbyterian Church of Asheville. They were joined by Fairmont Presbyterian Church from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. These two groups spent the week serving at a variety of urban ministry sites. These sites included Kairos West Community Center where our youth held a free food market open to the community. The market provided fresh produce donated from local grocery stores. Another site was the Haywood Street Congregation. Haywood Street Congregation is a church that ministers to the homeless population in Asheville. Our youth were able to participate in a church service and help serve a meal to the congregation afterwards. Throughout the week our youth were able to make relationships and have experiences that helped expand their view of need in the world. Our youth have been challenged to take what they have learned and apply to their own community. We are thankful to AYM and the positive influence they continue to have on our youth.
