BENEFITS OF CLIMBING AT SCHOOL
Climbing is an increasingly popular sport, especially due to its appearance at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Traditionally known for its practice in natural environments, climbing is being practiced more and more indoors and in cities around the world.
This sport has many merits, and can be beneficial to self-development.
Climbing movements require a high level of body awareness. This gives students the ability to analyze and understand what is facing them. Indoor Climbing can be a powerful part of a high-quality physical education program. It is a very engaging activity that offers a great alternative to traditional team sports.
Moreover, the medical community recommends the practice of climbing for the proper development of motor and cognitive skills.
PRIMARY SCHOOL WALLS
Introducing children to climbing is, above all, an excellent way to develop their motor skills. They learn how to become aware of their body on the wall, and to learn certain movements that are sometimes new to them. It can also be an introduction to goals setting for them = go to the top of the challenge, or cross the whole wall. Throughout the year or over the school years, goals can evolve. Traverse walls, for example, can have several levels of route setting; fun climbing challenges also exist in varying levels of difficulty. Time targets can also be established.

TRAVERSE WALLS
Traverse walls are meant to be climbed horizontally instead of vertically, this is a format called ‘bouldering’. This is done above a safety surface (whose thickness depends on the height of the wall) and without ropes and harnesses. The fun and challenge of a Traverse Wall is to make it from one side to the other, rather than to the top. Students are never more than a few feet off the floor as they traverse the wall. A traverse wall is a great introduction and can be installed almost anywhere.

PARK & PLAYGROUND BOULDERS
From the youngest climbers in their sandpits to city dwellers who love climbing, boulders and climbing towers for parks and playgrounds meet the needs of all types of climbers. These FreeForm structures are perfectly adapted to the outdoors, making climbing accessible to all and offering a variety of climbing styles.
VERTICAL CLIMBING WITH AUTO-BELAY
Younger children can also go climbing on walls that are higher than a boulder or a traverse wall. Our solution for more peace of mind and security? A small wall equipped with Trublue™ auto-belays. Children wear a harness clipped to the Trublue™. They climb the wall on their own and when they reach the top or let go on the way up, the auto-belay device lowers them smoothly back to the ground.

SECONDARY SCHOOL WALLS
At a time when young people tend to spend more time in front of screens than outside or to practice sports activities, teaching climbing is a solution to encourage them to move in a playful way. The practice of indoor climbing on bouldering or top rope walls can be facilitated in a very attractive way, with fun, colorful and original wall designs. Modular hand holds and volumes on the walls are also colorful and varied in size.
Teaching climbing to a young audience will be effective for the development of coordination, motor skills and will help them to stay focused on a goal. It is also an opportunity for children to start working in teams to support and encourage each other.

BOULDERING WALLS
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing, performed without any rope or harness. The climber solves a route, called a “problem”, on a wall above a safety surface. The climber performs precise sequences of moves to solve the problem. Thick mats protect climbers from falling and are essential for the safety of the climber. Bouldering is great for all skill levels and can be done alone even if it’s usually done as part of a social group.
Adding an easier section to the bouldering area makes it accessible to students of all ages (primary to secondary school). Boulder walls are a great option if you don’t have enough height to install a sport climbing wall.

TOP ROPE
Top rope: Climbers are supported by a rope, either by a second belayer or by using a TRUBLUE™ auto belay. The advantage of being belayed by a second person is building trust and teamwork. Indeed, knowing that a partner is holding the rope allows the climber to get more comfortable and to rest in a harness without descending. This is an excellent option for beginner climbers or for advanced climbers who want to practice difficult moves and progress their skills.
This also becomes more detailed and recommended for assessments and great peer to peer training.

INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE
Each climbing wall built by EP conforms to CWA industry common practices and engineered connection points. The CWA recommends an inspection by the manufacturer every 2-4 years depending on use and facility type. Also, regular maintenance should be recorded and kept up to date.
