It was revealed in the inscription inauguration of Subak as the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province in Tirta Empul Temple, Tampaksiring, Gianyar.

The subak in Gianyar Regency is recognized as The Cultural Landscape of Bali Province by UNESCO in the 36th Session of the UNESCO in Tavritcheski Palace,

St. Petersburg, Russia on June 29, 2012. To that end, the UNESCO team represented by the Director of UNESCO’s World Heritage Center, Kishore Rao, accompanied by the

Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Cultural Affairs Wiendu Nuryati inaugurated the inscription of subak as the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province in Tirta Empul Temple, Tampaksiring.

Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Cultural Affairs, Wiendu Nuryati, said that recognition of subak as a world heritage proved the high spirit in maintaining the harmonious relationships to God and nature based on the Tri Hita Karana concept.

Tri Hita Karana concept adopted for thousands of years was expected to become an example as well as contribute to the preservation of nature and culture. Wiendu Nuryati added the determination of subak as world cultural heritage became a matter of pride as having passed through a long process for 12 years. At the same time, the determination was also a challenge and struggle for the government and public to continuously protect and preserve the existence of subak,

she explained.

Meanwhile, the Gianyar Regent said that subak in Gianyar Regency managed to become part of Subak as the Cultural Landscape of Bali because of the preservation of Tri Hita Karana concept that had been implemented for thousands of years. Budakeling Village

A tourism village offers trekking path and rest point

One of the schools getting the rehabilitation project is the SDN 17 Dangin Puri elementary school with the allocation of three units of classroom. After renovation of the three rooms, it was just discovered that two other rooms of the school located on Jalan Melati Denpasar were in poor condition.

Budakeling village has a population of 6,400 or about 1,124 families. The concept of tourism village began to be developed at the village in 2008. In 2009, it made a regulation on guest and throughout 2011 the village received some tourist visits. For 2012, the village has received room reservation from tourists for next April. On the other hand, a total of 21 units of house belonging to local residents have been ready to be occupied.

During the stay at Budakeling village, the tourists will be redirected to a few places at the village, such as traditional market, school, village hall, KHDGPDQÂśV RIÂżFH XS WR FUDIWVPHQÂśV KRXVH ZKHUH WKH\ SURGXFH VLOYHUZRUNV and woven fabrics.

In traditional market, tourists will make transaction with the traders and they have an opportunity to bargain the price. It is a rare experience for tourists. In school, tourists will be asked to teach a language, or help the students by providing textbooks DQG VWDWLRQHU\ 7KHQ LQ KHDGPDQÂśV RIÂżFH WRXULVWV ZLOO EH JLYHQ LQIRUPDtion about the village administration system so that they will know how it works. Additionally, tourists will be invited to see assorted silverworks produced by local craftsmen and weaving activities. %XGDNHOLQJ YLOODJH DOVR SURYLGHV D WUHNNLQJ SDWK ZLWK PDJQLÂżFHQW atmosphere in cooperation with other villages like Macang and Sibetan village where tourists can enjoy the potential of the snakefruit garden. “We also take advantage of the nearby village to make a rest point, such as the Macang and Sibetan village as well as provide an explanation about this “Museum of Nature.â€? More interestingly, tourists will also be invited to enjoy young coconut drink and buy snakefruit. On that account, tourists will not only pass through the path at all,â€? said Ida Wayan Oka. As a supporting tourist attraction, the Budakeling village also organized two annual events, namely the mini Bali Arts Festival (BAF) as well as the Arts and Cultural Games. After dismantling those classrooms, it was just known if two adjacent rooms were also damaged. Their window frames looked to have decayed and some even had broken. “We just encountered them yesterday after the classrooms were dismantled. Apparently, the room of headmaster and school administration was also damaged. If not repaired, it can be hazardous,â€? said one of the local teachers.

Meanwhile, the budget for repairing the other two units was not allocated. “This year, the government only provides a budget to rehabilitate three classrooms.

However, the government must think about and prepare a budget to rehabilitate the two other damaged rooms because they need to be rehabilitated urgently,� he VDLG ZKLOH DVNLQJ WKH RI¿FLDOV RI relevant agencies to quickly make

site inspection.

The Head of Denpasar Education Agency, IGN Eddy Mulya, claimed to have received the report related to the school’s condition.

Dozens of electronics such as LCD and LED televisions were taken. The incident was revealed after a security working for the company, Mario Novita Susanto, informed one of the accused, Yudi, took a box. “After checked by Mario it was damaged electronics that will be taken back to the supplied.

Yet under it there was another box with LCD Television brand LG 26 inch. Yudi didn’t admit that he has

taken it,� Head of Kuta Police, PC Dedi Ujiana, explained last Monday (24/9).

To prove it, Mario who lives at Imam Bonjol Street, Ratna Sari Alley, West Denpasar, checked the warehouse and found dozens of items missing.This case was then reported to the police. A light green color Hino truck with number plate DR 8342 AB that has been parked in one of the main streets of Bangli nearby Bangli Police Headquarters the past two months seemed to be suspicious moreover it is not a Bali car number plate and not maintained at all. After checked with the police, turns out it was an evidence of a trafďŹ c accident happened in Kintamani two months ago kept by Bangli TrafďŹ c Police.

The accident was between the truck and a pick-up which the truck hit. As they wanted to solve the problem peacefully, the truck owner was asked for compensation from the pick-up owner so the case was closed without any

legal eact. Yet ironically the owner of the truck never came to see the police and took the truck so it is parked out on the main road due to the limited parking space in the headquarters.

Being a salt farmer indeed face many challenges, ranging from the weather, waves to uncertain result of sale. Similar condition is also experienced by salt farmers on Karangdadi Beach, Kusamba, Dawan. They produce salt every day though knowing if their products are very difďŹ cult to be marketed at standard price. Formerly, they were happy as promised to get assistance from the government.

Unluckily, it was only a promise without a clear follow-up.

A salt farmer on Karangdadi Beach, Ketut Kaping, said on Monday (Sep 24) the number of salt farmers tended to diminish at recent years. Formerly, the salt farmers reached hundreds of people and were divided into in some groups. But now, only 25 families still survived. Most of them had started to complain because the salt price continued to drop. Kaping, in his simple shack protected by walls made of plaited bamboo and roofed by dried coconut leaves, said that many salt farmers now preferred to wander to town because they could not survive just by becoming a salt farmer.

Earlier, the salt farmers here were once promised assistance by the government. Even, some farmers had been taken to the

ofďŹ ce of subdistrict head to sign several documents. At that time, said Kaping, the assistance to farmers would be immediately disbursed. What happened then? It was said that someone had taken the assistance for salt farmers.

Kaping then realized if the presence of salt farmers was only taken advantage to withdraw the assistance. “We are deceived. Having signed the documents, the money was taken away by the person,� he said. He added the amount of the assistance was about IDR 50 million for several groups of salt farmers. Until now, the assistance remained mysterious.

For each day, three salt farmers could produce 50 kg of good quality salt. If the salt was sold out, the sale was then divided by the three farmers where each would gain

IDR 15,000, as long as the weather permitted the process of salt making. If the weather was erratic, then the salt farmers would go home and bring nothing. Sometimes, they did not go home and chose to overnight on the beach.

Another salt farmer, Ketut Wati, also revealed the same condition.

She just depended on the results of making salt to support her two children who were still attending school. Even, she said that she had taken her children to stay in a simple shack under coconut trees on that beach.

Wati added that when the salt farmers were still productive, the salt product of Kusamba was even exported to foreign countries, such as Japan and the United States.

Therefore, many foreigners occasionally made their time visit the simple salt production shack on the beach. Even, the tourists purchased the salt of farmers in large quantities. Ironically, it was now difďŹ cult for tourists to reach the salt production site owned by farmers because there was a project once blocking the road access to the beach. (kmb31)

Suddenly the flows and feelings of the underground emerge into a historically essential structure. At some point or another, surrealism, abstract expressionism and Soviet realism became more than various trends, they became a historical action with meaning.

The artwork in this exhibition moves beyond deconstruction: “The artwork is a form of creativity, but good creativity does not stop at merely deconstructing, it is a process that always simultaneously intensifies and transforms, the process to rediscover reality, search

for the most natural elements and reformulate what is what we have been truly searching all this time,” writes Jonas Sestekresna, organizer of the event.

It makes sense that such a paradigm shift should originate in Indonesia, a place where community and social values still predominate. This is something very different than Damien Hirst’s skull of diamonds, which comments on a problem in a striking way, yet restates the problem in its materials, even creating a seductive aura that perpetuates the social ill.

Instead, the artworks and performance embody values that propose solutions to social problems and enact them not merely in the artwork and performance but in the social realm with youth education. All this without sacrificing sophistication and imagination in the allure of the creative process.

If this is indeed a paradigm shift that takes root, grows and spreads, the art of the next century will see the barriers between conceptual art and community broken. Art will play a powerful role in social transformation and environmental protection, linking modern and traditional, found objects and technological advances, conceptual and functional, hand in hand in common purpose to enhance the collective life of the community.

IN the area of Ambengan Hamlet, Pesanggaran, lies in a haunted ancient temple named Dalem Petingan Temple. The temple looks so classical and has much inspired the art of life in Bali. It includes in usadhic or traditional healing practices and guidance how to inhibit the Lapindo mudflows. Why? To reach this temple, people should pass through a circular path toward Benoa Harbor. In the west of the road lies a path leading to the swamp to get through the temple. The temple itself has no compound wall and is situated in the middle of the swamp. Strangely, it has been securely protected by invisible compound wall.

This temple is easily accessible even though located in the middle of the swamp. From the street, we can walk along some five meters toward the temple.

Jero Mangku Tanggu is responsible for overseeing and cleaning up the temple area every day.

He receives these tasks from his ancestors. During the period of temple anniversary, fifteen days before Galungan, it is always crowded by devotees.

The shrines existing in the temple consist of a main chamber as the sanctum to venerate deity Ida Ayu Mas having connection with Pulaki Temple. She is believed to be the source of life, so many traders and businessmen say prayers to this temple. Additionally, this temple is also the place to invoke divine inspiration (taksu) in the field of arts. Many art troupes invoked such divine inspiration in this temple, said Nyoman Sukayasa, one of the devotees who frequently worshiped in this temple.

On the left front side of the chamber occurs the shrine used for meeting hall of deities. Meanwhile, in front of the meeting hall there is a gamelan pavilion. Then, in the north of chamber shrine, there are two shrines, namely the Panglurah and representative shrine of Ida Bhatara Pulaki.

Interestingly, under a big tree lies a shrine for venerating Ida Bhatara Lingsir Sidi Ngucap.

People having profession as traditional healer usually invoke efficacy in this shrine. Then, at outermost courtyard lies a guardian shrine. This temple does have a compound wall, so that a series of stone are piled in such a way used as the wall, but its front wall is marked by a pile of bricks.

According to I Nyoman Sukayasa and Ida Bagus Sudira

serving as mediator of the venerated deities in this temple confirmed the existence of invisible compound wall protecting the temple. These two devotees were often assigned as mediator to inform any instructions received in the temple. Even, Bagus Sudira often performed a healing service in the temple and most people got their recovery within relatively a short time.

In the east of the temple, there is a pond without a shrine. It is believed as the abode of Anantabhoga dragon. Though without shrine, at this location lies a small burrow that often appears used as an augury. Guardian animal of the deities abiding in this temple are black tiger and ivory tiger.

However, they have not been realized in the form of effigies.

Nyoman Sukayasa added that deities abiding in the temple also had ties and linkages to Dalem Warung Temple located at Benoa landfill. The deity venerated in this temple was Ida Bhatara Manik Segara. His father abided in the Dalem Muter Temple, Kesiman, having the title of Ida Bhatara Catur Pramana Lingga. In addition, it had relation to Uluwatu Temple as the mother called Ida Sang Hyang Ibu Pertiwi with the title of Ida Bhatara Baruna and Ida Bhatara Rudra. It was Ida Bhatara Rudra which endowed the cessation of Lapindo mudflows, said Nyoman Sukayasa.

In the meantime, Ida Ayu Mas in the Dalem Petingan Temple was also said to have a grandfather who was worshiped in Pulaki Temple as Ida Bhatara Lingsir. Meanwhile, his sibling was venerated in the Rambutsiwi Temple with the title of Ida Bhatara Sakti. Another brother was worshiped in the Dalem Perancak Temple at Canggu revered as Ida Bhatara Tri Premana Lingga and had relation to Ida Bhatara Sakti Pengadangan.

Even, Nyoman Sukayasa claimed to have received a revelation in the temple about the best way to discontinue the Lapindo mudflows. His trip to Sidoarjo with other Hindu devotees was so long. He did a pecaruan exorcism rite on the full moon in last April precisely in center of outburst. It was carried out under life-threatening challenge, but he was determined to resume the holy mission because it was a part of God’s will. Ultimately, he thanked God because the Lapindo mudflows had now subsided. “That’s His will, we are only an intermediary,” said Sukayasa.

Demoted Denisov demands Zenit parity over wages MOSCOW - Disgruntled Zenit St Petersburg captain Igor Denisov, demoted to the reserve team after issuing a contract ultimatum, has demanded to know why the likes of big signing Hulk are paid so much more than Russian players.

LONDON - The English Football Association (FA) have rejected Chelsea defender John Terry’s claims that an investigation into his alleged racial abuse of an opponent during a Premier League match last year had forced him to retire from England duty. The 31-yearold former national captain brought his England career to an abrupt end on Sunday, saying his position in the national team had become “untenable” due to the FA’s impending case against him.

The Chelsea skipper stood before an FA tribunal set to last four days on Monday, facing charges of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand last October despite being acquitted in the law courts in July. FA general secretary Alex Horne dismissed Terry’s objections to the hearing, saying that the governing body was not responsible for the player’s decision to retire.

“It’s a personal decision. I don’t see how we have made it untenable, they are two very separate processes,” Horne told the British media on Monday. “It’s something that happened in a match - it shouldn’t be taking a year to resolve but we feel we are reaching a conclusion on that.

“That’s a very different process from our England procedures; they sit in different compartments and I could separate the two in my mind, but it doesn’t look like he could.”

If found guilty of racially abusing Ferdinand, Terry could face a lengthy ban similar to the eight-match one served by Liverpool’s Luis Suarez last season. Roma awarded 3-0 walkover win against Cagliari Reuters

ROME - AS Roma have been awarded a 3-0 walkover win for Sunday’s match at Cagliari after the game was called off for security reasons, Serie A said in a statement on Monday.

Cagliari club president Massimo Cellino was also referred to the Italian football federation’s prosecutor for possible further sanctions after calling on supporters to defy an order from local authorities to play the game behind closed doors.

Cagliari have moved to the Is Arenas on the outskirts of the Sardinian capital but authorities ruled last Thursday that the renovated stadium was not ready to host Serie A games despite recent improvements.

The Sardinians had previously been forced to play their opening Serie A home match against Atalanta behind closed doors.

On Saturday, Cagliari issued a statement slamming ³WKH EXUHDXFUDWLF GLI¿FXOWLHV DQG WKH FROOHFWLYH GLVLQWHUHVW RI the authorities”. They invited fans to watch the Roma game, saying the stadium was safe.

They staged their remaining home games last season in Trieste, around 1,000 miles from their base and closer to Belgrade than the Sardinian capital.

BUSINESS German consumers start to shiver amid eurozone chill Agence France-Presse

BERLIN - German consumers are beginning to feel the pinch, a poll showed on Tuesday, the second danger sign for Europe’s top economy in two days after a surprise monthly slump in business confidence.

Consumer confidence in Germany is stagnating, market research company GfK said, hard on the heels of data showing the eurozone crisis had pushed down business confidence, sparking recession alarm bells to ring.

While the eurozone debt crisis has brought Greece to its knees and caused Spain, its fourth-largest economy, to wobble, Germany has until recently weathered the turbulence relatively unscathed.

But consumers in Europe’s powerhouse appeared cautious.

GfK said in a statement that its household confidence index was forecast to remain at 5.9 points in October, the same level as the reading in September.

While consumers’ willingness to spend and their assessment of the economic situation had improved, they expected their own personal income situation to worsen over the coming months, the GfK said.

The headline consumer confidence reading is based on responses from about 2,000 households on their expectations about pay and the economy as a whole in the coming months, as well as their willingness to spend money.

On Monday, economists warned that Germany was headed for recession after the eurozone crisis pushed down business confidence in the country to the lowest level since February 2010.

The Ifo institute said its closely watched survey of the business climate in Germany dropped unexpectedly in September for the fifth month running to 101.4 points from 102.3 points in August.

Jennifer McKeown, an analyst at Capital Economics, said the data was a reminder that even the eurozone’s strongest economies were suffering which could in turn hit their ability to help weaker neighbours.

“In all ... it seems like only a matter of time before the economy starts to contract. This will make support for the peripheral economies even more difficult to muster,” she added.

Germany has relied on its powerful export motor to keep the economy humming through the near three-year crisis in the 17country bloc, notching up modest growth of 0.3 percent in the second quarter while the eurozone as a whole contracted by 0.2 percent.

But new car registrations, a key indicator of demand in Germany, tumbled sharply in August, retail sales figures also declined and unemployment is starting to rise.

Lion Air eyes more jets for growing South East Asia market Reuters

PARIS - Indonesia’s Lion Air may add more jets to recent plane orders in order to keep pace with Southeast Asia’s transport growth as a U.S. analyst said the airline may place a multi-billion-dollar order with Europe’s Airbus.

Lion Air co-founder and chief executive, Rusdi Kirana, said on Tuesday that Southeast Asia’s double-digit increase in air travel demand, spurred by economic growth and rising incomes, was set to continue.

“We think that in the next decade we will need a lot of aircraft,” he told Reuters in a telephone interview. “The market is growing very fast. We are looking, but it depends on pricing and many other factors. We are talking, but we have not made any decisions.”

U.S. aerospace analyst Scott Hamilton said however, that Lion Air was poised to order up to 100 Airbus jets, breaking Boeing’s (BA) dominance at Indonesia’s largest domestic airline.

Orders of 100 aircraft would be worth approximately $9 billion at list prices for 150-seat jets like the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737, but airlines usu-

ally negotiate steep discounts.

Officials with Airbus could not immediately be reached for comment.

Lion Air shot to attention in late 2010 when a provisional order for 230 Boeing jets got high billing during a visit to the world’s fourth mostpopulous nation by U.S. President Barack Obama, eager to play up the importance of U.S. exports.

Confirmed in February this year, the record deal took Lion Air’s order book to more than 400 planes, which it aims to use to fly across the AsiaPacific region.

Bolstered by export credits from Western producing countries, airlines in emerging markets have been placing significant bets on air travel in a region where passenger growth outpaces that of developed nations despite some spillover from Europe’s debt crisis.

Indonesia’s average annual passenger growth is 21 percent, according to Lion Air. If confirmed, a deal between Lion Air and Boeing’s arch-rival could be seen as a turning point after a series of orders that lifted the airline to be one of Boeing’s top customers.

Airbus, a subsidiary of EADS

(EAD.PA), and Boeing, have been locked in a fierce price fight for much of this year, often halving official list prices to take or defend market share, according to multiple industry sources and analysts.

Jakarta-based Lion Air competes with one of Airbus’s largest customers, AirAsia of Malaysia, which has itself confirmed plans to order another 100 Airbus jets in addition to a total of 375 already ordered, of which 100 are now in service.

Lion Air this month also announced plans to challenge AirAsia by setting up a new, low-cost airline based in Malaysia as Southeast Asia’s growing middle class fuels demand for cheap flights.

The new carrier, Malindo Airways, will begin flights between Indonesia and Malaysia next May with a fleet of 12 Boeing 727 aircraft, which it plans to expand to 100 planes within a decade, Kirana said when announcing the launch.

Lion Air meanwhile, says it is in talks with Boeing to buy 10 787 Dreamliners worth $1.9 billion to tap the long-haul market. The plan would extend an initial deal in June to buy five 787 Dreamliner passenger jets.

SEOUL — North Korea has stopped construction on a launch pad where intercontinental-range rockets could be tested, an interruption possibly due to heavy rains and that could stall completion up to two years, according to an analysis of new satellite imagery.

Despite the setback, however, Pyongyang is also refurbishing for possible future use another existing pad at the same complex that has been used for past rocket launches, according to the analysis of Aug. 29 images provided to The Associated Press by 38 North, the website of the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

While the renovations don’t mean a launch is imminent, they indicate North Korea is preparing the site for possible future rocket tests, according to the 38 North special report written by Nick Hansen.

North Korea conducted nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009, but experts don’t believe Pyongyang has yet mastered the technology needed to shrink a nuclear weapon so it can be mounted onto the tip of a longrange missile.

There are worries, however, about North Korea’s rocket and missile programs. The United States, South Korea and others have said North Korea uses rocket launches, includ-

ing a failed effort in mid-April, as covers to test banned missile systems that could target parts of the United States. North Korea says recent rocket launches were meant to put peaceful satellites into orbit.

North Korea has repeatedly vowed to push ahead with its nuclear program in the face of what it calls U.S. hostility that makes a “nuclear deterrence” necessary.

Both the new launch pad where work has been suspended and the existing launch pad being refurbished are at the Tonghae launch complex, which houses nine facilities around the villages of Musudan, No-dong and Taepo-dong on the northeast coast, according to the report.

“Despite the temporary halt in construction at the new Tonghae launch pad and the failed test last April, the North Koreans appear determined to eventually build bigger and better rockets,” Joel Wit, a former U.S. State Department official and editor of 38 North, told AP. The failed April launch of Pyongyang’s new Unha-3 rocket occurred at

the Sohae Satellite Launching Station in Tongchang-ri, a sophisticated, newer site on the country’s northwestern coast. The new commercial satellite photos of Tonghae, taken by DigitalGlobe, also show halted construction at fuel and oxidizer buildings near the new pad, the analysis said. Those buildings are described as crucial to any future tests.

The exact reason for the halt isn’t clear, but the analysis says the rains this summer that killed dozens of people and submerged large amounts of farmland are one explanation. North Korea is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters because of its poor drainage, widespread deforestation and poor infrastructure.

There are no workers or heavy construction equipment at the new pad site. No flooding can be seen in the new photos, but the analysis speculates that the construction equipment may have been moved to help with rebuilding efforts elsewhere. It says that heavy equipment can only get to the site by a rutted dirt trail that crosses a stream.

“Whatever the reason, the slowdown, barring concerted North Korean efforts to make up for lost time, could result in a 1-2 year slip in the planned completion date of the new complex, which was probably the middle of this decade,” the report said.

NEW YORK — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appealed Monday to Muslims to show “dignity” and not resort to violence as they protest an antiIslam film produced in the United States.

Speaking at her husband’s Clinton Global Initiative before meeting the presidents of Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya and Pakistan on the sidelines of the annual U.N. General Assembly, Clinton said the United States would always champion the rights to peaceful protest and free expression even if it deplored the content of the speech. But, she said, “dignity does not come from avenging insults.”

Her comments came as demonstrators angry over the vulgar depiction of the Prophet Mohammed in the video continue to protest around the Muslim world and Pakistani government minister put a $100,000 bounty on the head of the filmmaker.

“Dignity does not come from avenging insults, especially with violence that can never be justified,” Clinton said. “It comes from taking responsibility and advancing our common humanity.”

Fomenting grievance, she said, produces violent protests that accomplish nothing in the way of improving living standards, creating jobs or developing societies.

“Building schools instead of burning them, investing in their people’s creativity, not inciting their rage, opening their economies and societies to have more connections with the wider world, not shutting off the internet or attacking embassies” is the way to better life, she said.

“Extremists around the world are working hard to drive us apart,” Clinton warned. “All of us need to stand together to resist these forces and to support democratic transitions under way in North Africa and the Middle East.”

The Obama administration has been grasping for ways to try to tamp down the fury over the video, especially in Pakistan, where some of the most intense and sustained protests have been held. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad released public-service advertisements showing President Barack Obama and Clinton denouncing the film.

Compounding the difficulty, Pakistan’s railways minister offered $100,000 to anyone who kills the maker of the film. The Pakistani government disavowed the bounty on Monday, just hours before Clinton met President Asif Ali Zardari.

“We very much appreciate the strong response of your government,” Clinton told Zardari. Zardari replied: “It’s been a difficult time for all of us.”

A medical museum under development in Chicago obtained funding to scan and digitize nearly 350 fragile and priceless slides made from slices of Einsteinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brain after his death in 1955. The application will allow researchers and novices to peer into the eccentric Nobel winnerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brain as if they were looking through a microscope. After Einstein died, a pathologist named Thomas Harvey performed an autopsy, removing the great manâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brain

Harvey gave samples to researchers and collaborated on a 1999 study published in the Lancet. That study showed a region of Einsteinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brain â&#x20AC;&#x201D; the parietal lobe â&#x20AC;&#x201D; was 15 percent wider than normal. The parietal lobe is important to the understanding of math, language and spatial relationships.

The new iPad app may allow researchers to dig even deeper by looking for brain regions where the neurons are more densely connected than normal, said Dr. Phillip Epstein, a Chicago-area neuroscientist and consultant for the museum.

Whatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s more, the 1-inch-by-3-inch Einstein slides on the app represent only a fraction of the entire brain, Annese said.

Annese has preserved and digitized another famous brain, that of Henry Molaison, who died in 2008 after living for decades with profound amnesia. Known as â&#x20AC;&#x153;H.M.â&#x20AC;? in scientific studies, Molaison participated during his life in research that revealed new insights on learning and memory.

A searchable website with images of more than 2,400 slides of Molaisonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s entire brain will be available to the public in December, Annese said.

New York City hospitals cracking down on junk food Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK â&#x20AC;&#x201D; People nervously waiting around in New York City hospitals for loved ones to come out of surgery canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t smoke. In a few months from now, they canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a supersized fast-food soda. And soon, they wonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t even be able to get a candy bar out of the vending machine or a piece of fried chicken from the cafeteria.

In one of his latest health campaigns, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is aiming to banish sugary and fatty foods from both public and private hospitals.

In recent years, the cityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 15 public hospitals have cut calories in patientsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; meals and restricted the sale of sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks at vending machines. But now the city is tackling hospital cafeteria food, too. And the Healthy Hospital Food Initiative is expanding its reach: In the past year, 16 private hospitals have signed on.

Earlier this month, the city moved to ban the sale of big sodas and other sugary drinks at fast-food restaurants and theaters, beginning in March. Critics say the hospital initiative is yet another sign that Bloomberg is running a â&#x20AC;&#x153;nanny state,â&#x20AC;? even though the guidelines are voluntary and other cities â&#x20AC;&#x201D; including Boston â&#x20AC;&#x201D; have undertaken similar efforts.

Hospitals say it would be hypocritical of them to serve unhealthy food to patients who are often suffering from obesity and other health problems. â&#x20AC;&#x153;If thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s any place that should not allow smoking or try to make you eat healthy, you would think itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d be the hospitals,â&#x20AC;? The cafeteria crackdown will ban deep fryers, make leafy green salads a mandatory option and allow only healthy snacks to be stocked near the cafeteria entrance and at cash registers. At least half of all sandwiches and salads must be made or served with whole grains. Balinese Temple Ceremony EVERY Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or â&#x20AC;&#x153; Odalan â&#x20AC;&#x153;, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the â&#x20AC;&#x153;umbulXPEXO´ ORQJ Ă&#x20AC;DJV DOO WKHVH DUH SUHURJDWLYHV RU DWWULEXWHV of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up â&#x20AC;&#x153;Penjorâ&#x20AC;?, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land.

Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

TMZ adds that the 26-year-old has told friends that she has no plans to return to L.A., even though her parents have just moved there from Texas to be closer to their troubled daughter.

When Bynes was caught driving on a suspended license on September 16 after police witnessed her aimlessly driving around a valet area of Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California, at 8 a.m., itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s unclear if she was there to take a flight. Approximately 90 minutes later, she exited the airport and was pulled over yet again by police â&#x20AC;Ś and that time, they impounded her vehicle.
