enataran Pande Kuri Batu Temple is located at Jelantik Kuri Batu, Tojan village, Klungkung. This temple is estimated to have existed since 1422 AD in accordance with the information of the chronographic note in the shape of heads, horses, arms and legs located on the top of the temple entrance gates. This temple retains historical objects that are still maintained by the temple supporting devotees or pengempon. They generate a unique story in the history of Klungkung. The Penataran Pande Kuri Batu stands on an area of about 700 square meters, exactly on the edge of the Gelgel-Klungkung road section. The temple has eleven shrines. From outside, it looks not much different from the temples in general in Bali. But when Bali Post

explored each component of the temple and based on the stories of senior figures of the temple, it was then revealed the history and uniqueness of the temple belonging to a large family of pande or ironsmith clan in Bali. One of the senior figures of the temple, Wayan Togig, told the history on the temple was contained in the Purana Raja Sesana where the temple was built by Mpu Ngurah Lelumbang with his son Sire Lurah Tusan Kepandean. The temple anniversary was celebrated every Tumpek Landep, falling on Saturday (Aug 24). Supporting devotees from throughout Bali looked to come for worshipping in the Penataran Pande Kuri Batu where the temple anniversary took place for two days. “Devotees from Klungkung are about 60 families, while the

rest from outside Klungkung was about 350 registered families,” he said. Ornaments of all the shrines in the Penataran Pande Kuri Batu looked old and so did the buildings. However, some shrines had been renovated, but typical Balinese carvings on the shrine remained to be preserved. The Penataran Pande Kuri Batu has its own uniqueness namely the door leaf made from stone. Kori Batu or stone gate with the length of about two meters and the width of about 40 centimeters was installed in the temple entrance. It also had a relief in the form of the painting of Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva. Due to the existence of such stone gates the temple was then named the Penataran Pande Kuri Batu. In the pande clan chronicles written by Pande

HPI Bali Develops Arabic Division rrival of King Salman to Bali some time ago drew the attention of a lot of media. During his holiday on this island, this number one person in Saudi Arabia has a positive impact on the image of Bali as a tourist destination worth visiting by anyone including tourists from Arab countries who are predominantly Muslim. “Since then, and indeed there have been before, Arab tourists began to arrive. Moreover, many Arab and Muslim-descendant tourists from Turkey, Malaysia and some Arab countries have visited Bali,” said Public Relations of the Indonesia Tour Guide Association (HPI) of Bali, I Nyoman Suarma. favorite for the Hindu community in Bali. Moreover, farming communities that live in rural areas used to eat rice with side dish like this loteng sela. It is often called crackers or po-

tato chips because it is made from cassava as the main ingredient. In other areas, this loteng sela is called peanut brittle. It is oval and thin with the size of about 10-15 cm x 15-20 cm, so that it becomes crispier when being fried. In the 1980s, it was famous snack in Tabanan area. Children, teenagers and adults made this food as their refreshment enjoyed while chatting in the afternoon until night. Other than being cheap, it is also very easy to get. Virtually all families can make it. It happens because farmers used to grow cassava other than rice. They prefer to grow this cassava because it can be used to mix with rice for daily food. Recently, the mixed rice seems to have been abandoned. People prefer to eat pure rice (rice without mixture). Likewise the cassava starts to be abandoned and people prefer modern instant food. Children also assume the loteng sela an old fashioned food. Nevertheless, the loteng sela is still produced by the community so far. It can be found at stalls, food stores and supermarket. It has been served in beautiful plastic packaging and the price is already determined. The main ingredient

used is cassava. After being peeled out, it is grated and squeezed to reduce the water content. Its spice consists of garlic, aromatic ginger, turmeric, chili, coriander, chili and salt. For those wishing to get a different taste, it can be added with flavoring to taste. All the spices are grounded and then mixed together with grated cassava.

After that, stir it until fnely blended. Put some amount of the batter on a banana leaf pre-smeared with coconut oil and then flattened. Make oval shape and press again and again to make it thinner. Steam and dry under the sun to dry. Having dried out, remove from the banana leaf and fry on preheated pan to be cooked and tasteful. Now, it is ready to be served. (BTN/015)

Balinese Gamelan Accompanies Lunar New Year Worship

elebration of the Lunar New Year 2569 in Buleleng took place solemnly. The worship by hundreds of Chinese people in North Bali was marked with high tolerance. As evidence, the worship centered at Ling Gwan Kiong Temple on Friday (Feb. 16) was accompanied by Balinese gamelan music. Devotees started to perform their prayers around 07:00 local time. In addition to using facilities such as incense stick, devotees also presented canang sari oblation. Their worship looked solemn in front of the statue of the Gods believed to abide at the local temple built in 1873 by the Qing Dynasty. The worship was getting more vibrant and solid with tolerance when gamelan troupe displayed

some strains of Balinese gamelan compositions. Inevitably, the atmosphere of Lunar New Year in North Bali resembled the ceremony organized at the Hindu temples in Bali. Vice Chairman of TITD Ling Gwan Kiong, Gunadi Yetial, said the prayers every Chinese New Year is always filled with Chinese people from various regions. Each day, the pilgrims of Ling Gwan Kiong Temple reach three thousand people. They come from Buleleng and outside the region. Moreover, the temple is visited until the evening. This year, the celebration procession began on Thursday (Feb. 8) resumed with the ritual of Ascending Gods Prayers and continued until the upcoming month (Mar. 3) with the joint celebration of Lunar New Year. Related to the partici-

pation of Balinese gamelan music accompanying the procession of worship, Gunadi Yetial said it had happened since long time ago. He believed the prayers accompanied by the Balinese gamelan took place as a form of tolerance and acculturation of Balinese and Chinese culture. “Since we inherited from the predecessors, every celebration of Lunar New Year we always have the appearance of Balinese gamelan. This serves as tolerance and acculturation between Balinese and Chinese culture. It is an inheritance that we must keep together,” he said. In addition, other uniqueness can also be found in this Ling Gwan Kiong Temple. In the temple area, there are dozens of tortoises brought by Chinese devotees that would like to pray. People believe that such ritual symbolizes the disposal of unluckiness and begs for long life. One of the Chinese residents, Wu Fei Chung, hoped much in this Earth Dog Zodiac. He hoped the Earth Dogs Zodiac can provide vibration and prosperity to mankind. On the other hand, dozens of children also appeared in front of Ling Gwan Kiong Temple. They hoped to get red envelop from the people having completed their prayers. Many people gave red envelop to the children. This tradition becomes a legacy of Chinese people remaining to be preserved. No wonder, people from other religions also flocked to get such red envelop. Ling Gwan Kiong Temple has its own story in colonial times. During the Japanese colonial period of 1940, this temple was highly respected by Japanese soldiers. On June 1, 1945, when the Allied forces did a raid on the Japanese

Taman Ayun Flocked by Visitors on Lunar New Year unar New Year holiday on Friday (Feb. 16) becomes a special moment to Taman Ayun attraction as it was flooded with visitors. From the morning, myriad domestic and foreign tourists arrived with their families, spouse and friends. ali Island retains a number of unique things. For instance, Balinese people have a tradition of fighting against mouse pests. Dubbed as the rice granary region of Bali, Tabanan district surely has an extensive agricultural land. A number of challenges are often faced by local farmers. For instance, mouse attack threatens the yields of agricultural production. To overcome such pest attack, some villages in Tabanan district still

uses traditional method of mass hunting. Not only that, the ceremony of mereteka merana or mouse cremation is still done especially by subak members in the area of Bedha customary village, Tabanan. This ceremony is still closely related to the safety and fertility of plants, especially paddy. The mouse cremation has been frequently done at Bedha customary village and has been regarded as local custom. Moreover, this ceremony is held in the holy place namely Penataran Bale Agung, Puseh Temple of Bedha. Moreover, after the ceremony

it has proved to provide real evidence for the life of farmers. “Until now, the tradition of mouse cremation in Bedha remains to exist, but it’s only done if there is an uncontrolled mouse pest attacks in paddy fields,” said chief of Bedha customary village, I Nyoman Surata. The ceremony, said Surata, aims to purify the soul of pests so as to return to its origin and does not re-incarnate to the earth as a pest that damage all types of plants on earth, especially paddy plants. “Thus, it is unlike cremation on Pitra Yadnya but when there is an uncontrolled pest attack, so farmers always face harvest failure. The mouse also called as Jero Ketut is cremated like in ngaben ceremony. After being cremated, the mice collected from mass hunting (through fumigation) in the fields are floated to the sea,” he explained. He added that at Bedha village such ceremonies are often organized when mice and other pests have caused an extraordinary disturbance and cannot be controlled. This last mouse cremation ceremony was held in 2009 involving subak groups in Tabanan district under the coordination of Sedahan Agung of Tabanan. Interestingly, after the mouse cremation, the plants have never been attacked by (BTN/kmb) pests until now.

Badung Holds Bali Sapuh Leger Exorcism Rite

M

aintaining culture and customs of society so as to remain sustainable is one of the synergistic measures that must be done by the government and the community. Related to this, Badung district performed Sapuh Leger exorcism rite all over Bali at the outermost courtyard of Lingga Bhuwana Temple, Badung Civic Center, on Sunday (Feb. 18). A total of 4,442 people from Badung and other districts / municipality in Bali participated in the exorcism rite. The Sapuh Leger exorcism of the third time is fully borne by the Badung district government alias free of charge. The ceremony was attended directly by the Regent of Badung, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, and other related officials. The series of ceremonies were officiated over by two higher priests namely Ida Pedanda from Griya Angantaka and Ida Pedanda from Griya Tegal Darmasaba and a puppeteer of Sapuh Leger named Ida Bagus Alit Arga Patra assisted by ten attendants to perform the exorcism rite. Head of the Badung Culture Agency, Ida Bagus Anom Bhasma, said that Sapuh Leger across Bali has been done for three times. Two times were held in the era of Regent A.A. Gde Agung and once in the era of Regent I Nyoman Giri Prasta. “Sapuh Leger exorcism is held every five years. So far, it has been held for three times. If I’m not mistaken, the first implementation was in 2008 followed by approximately 2,500 people. Then, in 2013 the second time was followed by a total of about 1,500 people. Meanwhile, the current participants are listed approximately 2,000 people,” he said. Anom Bhasma mentioned that at least IDR 150 million from the regional budget plan (APBD) of Badung in 2018 is allocated for this ceremony.

“The community is free of charge to follow this Sapuh Leger exorcism rite,” he said. This activity is part of the commitment of Badung regent to lighten the burden of society in need of the Sapuh Leger exorcism rite. People are just enough to prepare simple oblation like two sets of daksina pejati and paraphernalia for worship. Chairman of the Committee of Sapuh Leger exorcism rite, I Gusti Ngurah Artawan, who is also Chairman of Cultural Advisory and Development Council (Listibiya) of Badung, said the number of participants in the Sapuh Leger exorcism rite reached 2,442 people. In accordance with the palm-leaf manuscript of Kala Tatwa, Sudamala and Siwa Gama, the Hindus born coinciding with Wuku Wayang must perform Sapuh Leger exorcism rite aiming for sanctification and initiation. Series of the rite included the exorcism and mebayuh oton. Meanwhile, the Regent of Badung, Nyoman Giri Prasta, asserted that Sapuh Leger exorcism rite as a form of commitment is showed by Badung district government in alleviating the burden of Badung and Balinese people, especially those who need the Sapuh Leger exorcism rite. He depicted the existence of the role played by each character in the Pandavas. When playing the role as Bima, one must take action firmly and make clear rules; Arjuna’s character is indicated by the right target and being helpful. Thirdly, the main character of Nakula, according to Giri Prasta, is the appearance and performance. Fourthly, other member of the Pandavas is Sahadewa meaning intellectuality or intelligence. The most important is the fifth namely Yudhishthira, he has the character that changes hell into heaven. Thus, he can help other people in (BTN/kmb) confusion.

Virgin Beach ome time ago, I enjoyed the beauty of Virgin Beach in Karangasem district. The location is indeed beautiful, tranquil and not much touched by the roars of the tourism facilities development. No wonder, it is named Virgin Beach, in accordance with its pristine atmosphere. Although not so long, the range of the beach spreads along of about 300 meters. Virgin Beach

with the overlay of its white sand offers natural charm that is not inferior to the potential beaches in Karangasem or other beaches in Bali having been long familiar with tourists. It is not so far from Denpasar, about 1.5 hours’ drive. Along the way, many beautiful spectacles will be passed through. There are some tourist spots that must be visited like Kerta Gosa (former royal court of justice)

in Klungkung or Goa Lawah Temple. Obviously, a half hour is not too long. It’s relatively rare stuck in traffic congestion. A few moments heading for this destination, we will pass through the hill ranges, named Bukit Asah. This beach is indeed flanked by two hills, namely the Bukit Asah and Bukit Perasi. With the beach condition located in the bay, the water is relatively quiet and fun to soak or simply relax

on a lounger while enjoying a bottle of beer or having a massage. Wow, it is really relaxed to enjoy the scenic beauty of the surroundings. Will this beach really remain ‘virgin’? I have no idea. Time will be able to tell about it. The beaches of Bali that were once classified to be ‘virgin’ have now even seemed crowded. It is crowded by tourist visits and crowded by various tourism facilities that surround them. Hopefully, the Virgin Beach can still at least be said to remain ‘virgin.’ B N

Turtles Increasingly Diligent to Lay Eggs at Legian,

hief of Legian Customary Village Beach Management (PPDAL), Wayan Suarta, said that all this time the Legian Beach is often used by turtles as a place for laying eggs. The eggs are said to be often brought to turtle egg hatchery in Kuta area because Legian has no such egg hatchery. If the turtle egg hatchery is in Legian, it would become a new attraction for the beach in Legian, but so far it has

been cooperated with a third party. “Indeed, the hatchery needs to be coordinated with WWF and other related parties. Thus, every release will get the support from other related parties,” he said. Similar opinion was also revealed by headman of Legian, Made Madiya Suryanatha. According to him, the people’s expectation of having hatchery of turtle eggs is indeed based on rampant turtles laying egg on Legian Beach. All this time, in the area of Legian Beach is often encountered turtles laying eggs chiefly in the area of Padma Beach. “Actually, this proposal comes from the results of the customary Legian village meeting that we forward to the development plan meeting,” he said. According to him, the proposal on turtle egg hatchery is also very good for Legian tourism image. Other than becoming an additional tourist attraction, it also affirms that Legian is very concerned about the existence of turtles as protected animals. B N (BTN/kmb)

n order to restore the Bali tourism, the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) prepares 12 events throughout 2018. These events are believed to be able to restore the level of tourist visit to Bali, so the target of 17 million tourist visits can be achieved. Besides, this event also provides a great influence for the economy of society. Head of the Badung Tourism Office, I Made Badra, said that such series of event is meant for tourism recovery. “Such events are expected to draw tourists,” he said during the press conference related to the Calendar Event of 2018, Thursday (Feb. 15). Head of ITDC Commercial Division, A.A. Istri Ratna Dewi, said that each event spent the budget as much as IDR 1 billion just for production. It does not

include promotion. Thus, the total 12 events are estimated to drive money to circulation worth IDR 12 billion, excluding the spending of each visitor estimated to reach IDR 100,000, so the economic impact is very large. Among the 12 events, Nusa Dua Light Festival is the largest. Since it is held in June-July coinciding with golden peak season, the visit rate becomes high. Meanwhile, the other events implemented aim to boost the level of tourist visits and room occupancy during low season, especially in October and November. Other ITDC series of events also include the Bali Blues Festival. This year’s Bali Blues Festival is the fourth implementation. As planned in the event of 2019, the Bali Blues Festival will bring in international artists. All this time, it received many requests

of international artists to be able to participate in the event without payment. The target of this event is domestic and international visitors. Total number of visitors in the ITDC event series can reach 600 people, where 30 percent of whom belongs to international visitors. In addition to the economic impact, it also provides a multiplier effect for the surrounding communities. Based on the experience in previous years of the Bali Blues Festival, it could increase quite sharp occupancy. In addition, Sundown Dancing Lesson is also able to excite the young people around the area to get involved, so there are positive activities that can be done. “As the impact, there is an increase in the art preservation in the buffer village. Local culture and new creations are able to grow. It can generate multiplier effect on young people through positive activities,” he explained. Managing Director of ITDC, Made Karioka, said that Bali should make improvement to meet the target of 17 million. This activity is one of them in the series towards the target of 20 million tourists in 2019. In order to be able to bring in tourist visit to the event, the promotion must apply targeted concept. “Even though the promotional tool is simple, if it is right on target, it will be able to disseminate this event well,” he said. He utilizes promotional channels from the Ministry of Tourism, BUMN promotional channels, social media and some ITDC channels in

Jakarta. The 12 events include the Sundown Dancing Lesson conducted every week, Chinese New Year celebration held on February 24-25, Food Festival (March 23-24), Bali Blues Festival (May 11-12), Nusa Dua Light Festival (June 11 to July 15), Joint Watching of World Cup Final (July 15), Badung International Night

Run (September 23), IMF Side Event (in October) and the Art of Bali (October 1-14). In October, it will also implement an event entitled world or music, art, and dance (WOMAD). The Wonderful Nusa Dua Fiesta will be held on November 8-10 and the New Year’s Eve Party is held at the end of the year. B N

It is not separable from tourism development in this region lately that increasingly showed a progress. As evidence, there is interest in the Celukan Bawang Port for cruise ship to berth. After the determination of the zone, West Buleleng should be developed into a buffer zone. It is possible because tourism is not purely an industrial estate. According to the regent, in line with the route development of cruise ship visit with large capacity that transport thousands of tourists, then Buleleng needs to propose to Special Committee for the Revision of Regional Regulation about RTRW Bali in order that Celukan Bawang and surrounding areas can become tourism buffer. Thus, community tourism began to grow in the western region. ommunity of Tibubeneng village held an event entitled Berawa Beach Arts Festival. The festival featuring the theme ‘Pasisi Lango, Gate of Transition’ is held for four days (Feb. 22-25). “This festival is born from a society attempting to provide the opportunity and transformation and innovative creations with personal and communal expressions of language,” said the Head of North Kuta Subdistrict, A.A. Ngurah Arimbawa, at a press conference at LV8 Berawa, Sunday (Feb. 18). Accompanied by headman of

This traditional art is presented in concert by taking instrumental format, not accompanying a dance. “Therefore, it needs the exploration chamber of kecak elements such as the sound types and the formulation of genuine mutual response. This kecak takes the materials from the wealth of the kecak of Ulapan Blahkiuh, Badung,” he added. Processing of chorus cak sound elements is also unified with cak body elements by maximizing the sound color of the applause, chest and thigh. Participants are a combination of representatives of vocational students and some high

schools in Badung district. The dancers consist of men and women. “People also present their various artworks in a cultural arts parade at the opening of the festival by involving 13 customary hamlets at local village of Tibubeneng,” he explained. The occupancy rate of the accommodation at this prominent diving and snorkeling site has reached 30 percent dominated by Chinese tourists. Manager of Ocean View Tulamben Dive and Resort, Sita Marlina, said not long ago that Tulamben offers the beauty of

arangasem district has a lot of tourism potential that can still be developed, where marine tourism sector is one of them. Of the 87 km of beaches it has, many have not been worked on and waiting to be better managed. To maximize the regionally generated revenue as well as provide added-value for the community, district government of Karangasem encourages the growth of investment, especially in the marine tourism. “Many spots can be developed into tourist attraction. As long as complying with the provisions of the law, we are very open to in-

Mas Sumatri opens the widest opportunities for investors to build business on the Tanah Aron land. According to her, Karangasem desperately needs the support of private parties including in developing the tourism sector. Especially for business players of Padangbai-Gili Trawangan crossing service, North Lombok, she hoped they are more innovative so that tourism activities to Gili Trawangan can also raise the po-

tential of Karangasem tourism. “It does not matter if the departure point is from Padangbai, but the return point, for example, can be directed to Ujung Beach,” she suggested. Wawan Danu Sartika from Wan Gobel Express admitted to be ready to connect Gili Trawangan tourism activity to tourist attraction in Karangasem. However, concerning with the Ujung Water Palace, this young entrepreneur from Karangasem said the optimization of the visit from the sea line is limited by the ab sence of a dock to anchor.

Gentas are used by holy-people in Bali such as Resi, Sulinggih and Penandita when they conduct Hindu ceremonies –particularly at the opening and closing of these rituals. Balinese people consider that after genta have been giving proper ceremonies and offerings, they become sacred objects and it is generally frowned upon for common people to use genta casually. arangasem district again got a golden opportunity to raise its tourism sector. It is the opportunity to campaign the region that is safe through the International Cycling Marathon Tour De Indonesia GFNY 2018. Although the activities of Mount Agung are still at the warning alert level, the disaster-prone area is

now only 6 km from the peak of Mount Agung. International Cycling Marathon Tour De Indonesia GFNY 2018 was held for the first time for Asia level in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, two years ago at GFNY 2016. Currently, the event was held again and Bali serves as the host of the International Cycling

Marathon GFNY Bali 2018. Karangasem district became one of the destination routes of the prestigious international event. “Therefore, this is a golden opportunity for Karangasem district to show to international community that Karangasem is still very safe to be visited,” said Regent of Karangasem, I Gusti

Ayu Mas Sumatri, when met at her private residence on Sunday (Feb. 4). Mas Sumatri said this event is very appropriate as a form of campaign. This event can indicate directly the situation of tourism in Bali, which is now safe. In addition to showing that Bali is safe especially Karangasem, it can also dismiss the wrong information in circulation all this time. The counterproductive impact makes it look as though the whole Bali is affected by the eruption of Mount Agung. Seeing the facts at this time, the regent hoped tourists are not afraid to visit Karangasem. Hopefully, the national and international events will be continuously held in Karangasem. District government itself is ready to facilitate the prestigious events. Head of the Karangasem Tourism Office, I Wayan Astika, explained that Grand Fondo New York (GFNY) Bali 2018 is one of the series of global cycling marathon. The figure of this gamelan music maestro is deliberately placed in the lobby of the gamelan music studio, so that it can become a source of inspiration in studying and preserving Balinese arts. Moreover, the studio is also named I Wayan Beratha Gamelan Music Studio. Prof. Arya said that in 2012 the

ISI Denpasar determined I Wayan Beratha as a Balinese gamelan music maestro, a figure with monumental works and dedication, has given birth to inspiring artworks. Most of the lecturers of the ISI Denpasar are his disciples, so they should be grateful. “We welcome the creation of this statue as a form of appreciation to I Wayan Beratha who has created many monumental works,” he said. As the head of the institution, Prof. Arya considered that I Wayan Beratha is an expert in the field of performing arts especially in the field of gamelan music, so that one of the buildings is named I Wayan Beratha. “The Faculty of Performing Arts, especially gamelan music department, has four representative and sophisticated laboratories with complete silencer facilities. Well, the statue of I Wayan Beratha is placed in one of the lobbies of the building and it is named I Wayan Beratha Gamelan Music Building,” he said. He added that musical students will learn every day here whether about gamelan music, practice and the history so that it cannot be separated from the figure of I

Wayan Beratha. Similarly, when learning composition, making gamelan music composition and theory of gamelan music, they will also learn from the figure of I Wayan Beratha. “Currently, many students do not know about the figure of I Wayan Beratha. Inna Bali Beach Garden Becomes Our Second Home T

he hotel applying the concept of green hotel in its management will have cool, comfortable, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Moreover, there is even a different spirit. It is experienced by a couple from the Netherlands namely Mr. Fulco J.C. Van De Kieft, 71, with his wife Mrs. Neel Van Dentop, 74, when staying at Inna Bali Beach Garden (IBBG), formerly known

as Bali Beach Hotel (Inna Grand Bali Beach). Strong vibration seems to have conjured up them to always stay at this pioneering hotel on Sanur Beach. Mr. Fulco is a retired management consultant in the Netherlands who claimed to be happy and love Bali very much. Therefore, since 2001 he has always chosen the Island of Bali for a vacation, not elsewhere.

Dutch Travelers Fall in Love with Green Concept of Griya Santrian Sanur

ourist accommodations in Sanur area often become an option for foreign tourists to stay longer. Other than staying for one or two months, they also come repeatedly that can reach two or three times a year. “Apart from being consistent with Balinese culture, this hotel also has an extraordinary spirit,” said the Dutch entourages when met by Bali Travel News at Griya Santrian Resort & Spa, Tuesday (Feb. 13). The Dutch tourists are Mr. Joannes Jacobus Houps and Mrs. Yvonne Josephina Bredewold who have stayed for 20 times. Meanwhile, Mr. Jelle Auke Visser, Mrs. Cornelia Geertruida Okkema Netherlands, Mr. Johannes Wilhelmus Ockhuysen and Mrs. Johanna Maria Bakker, as well as Mr. Jan Pieter De Bruijn and Mrs. Janna Maria Kappetijn averagely have visited for ten times. “We’ve considered Griya Santrian as our second home,” they said. Mr. Jelle Auke Visser added that hotel staffs are very friendly. They have management that pays great attention to their guests. Without a lot of talk, hotel staffs immediately serve. They have good understanding on the habits of guests, so they know best how to maintain services and take care of repeated guests. “Staff and guests have understood on another, so they do not need to ask, but have been prepared. Sometimes they give a surprise,” he added convincingly. Mr. Joannes Jacobus Houps and Mrs. Yvonne Josephina Bredewold admitted to be happy with the hotel having a garden. Moreover, the plants classified to be rare varieties indeed provide positive vibration. Large shady trees are equipped with names and other information. “The existence of garden means there is a beautiful view and empty space to interact. This hotel also has a program to invite guests to plant trees,” he said. Besides, Mr. Johannes Wilhelmus Ockhuysen and Mrs. Johanna Maria Bakker added that the hotel has spacious and clean rooms. Cultural activity remains to exist such as exhibition in a special room (gallery). In addition, there are regular activities of local temple priest performing mebanten or put the offerings in the local shrines. “These prove if the hotel management puts forward local wisdom. We like all of them,” he explained. In other words, people here not do only maintain good relationships with staff and employees, but also maintain a harmonious relationship with God. The community is concerned with the existing hotels in the neighborhood, so the hotel is very concerned about the surrounding communities. “The interaction of hotel with the local people in Sanur is really perceived. When having a walk in the restaurant and Sindu Market, there are local food of Bali and Indonesia. Public interaction with tourists also takes place here. If it is the application of the green hotel concept, it is good,” he said. B N (BTN/bud)

When making first visit to Bali, they stayed at The Grand Bali Beach Hotel. In the third and fourth visit, they tried to stay at another hotel, but the next year they came back to this hotel until now. “We feel there is something unique at this hotel, especially the friendly service of the staff,” they said. Its garden looks green with beautiful local plants. At some places, there is a large shady tree, there is also a sacred place supported by cultural activities of the employees. The hotel has a clean beach as well as well as the waste in processed properly. “This hotel applies the green concept. That’s why we feel more comfortable when staying at this hotel,” he explained. Vast hotel area with a variety of rare plants really makes them comfortable. In contrast to other hotels, the remaining and narrow areas are used to make rooms so as to earn more profits but ignore the surrounding environment and green areas. However, Inna Bali Beach Garden still maintains the beauty and vast grounds, so that guests can still enjoy the green, beautiful and cool view. “People around the hotel also still maintain local customs. But, lately it has slightly changed. Probably, it is the impact of tourist developments making a visit,” he added. Every making vacation in Bali, Mr. Fulco and his wife always take the time to visit other tourist

Candidasa and other destination. After that, they definitely return to Inna Bali Beach Garden because they feel this is their second home. “Nowadays, many tourist attractions are commercialized by irresponsible people. Frankly speaking, the atmosphere makes our holiday disturbed so we spend time by playing golf and relaxing in the room and touring around Inna Grand Bali Beach hotel only,” he said. He then compared the current atmosphere of Bali to eight years ago. According to him, nowadays the tolerance and culture of Balinese society has changed. Actually, tourists coming to Bali

narrow streets lead to traffic jams. Besides, the insufficient quality of roads but often forced can affect Balinese culture,” he explained. These conditions often make people stressed and can change their character that affects the hospitality. Such transport condition must be found a solution. “If we want tourism in Bali to be sustainable, this should get the attention from the government and the people of Bali in order to keep Bali safe and peaceful. It can be perceived by tourists and society in general,” said Fulco at the end of the meeting at 1688 Beach Bar of the Inna Bali Beach Garden. B N

arangasem district again got a golden opportunity to raise its tourism sector.

GFNY World Championship is based in New York City, USA. Carrying the tagline, Be a Pro for a Day, the international bicycle marathon of GFNY Bali 2018 was held in Bali.

Well, through this statue they can learn,” he explained.

Prof. Dr. Ni Luh Sutjiati Beratha, said that I Wayan Beratha was awarded Siwa Nataraja and confirmed as Balinese Gamelan Music Maestro by ISI Denpasar. he hotel applying the concept of green hotel in its management will have cool, comfortable, quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

The God Iswara holds a bajra and legend has it that genta or bajra originated from Himalayan cow -bells, that allowed peoples prayers to be brought to God. Gentas are used by holy-people in Bali such as Resi, Sulinggih and Penandita when they conduct Hindu ceremonies –particularly at the opening and closing of these rituals. Balinese people consider that after genta have been giving proper ceremonies and offerings, they become sacred objects and it is generally frowned upon for common people to use genta casually. on a lounger while enjoying a bottle of beer or having a massage.

15). include promotion.

Jakarta. The 12 events include the Sundown Dancing Lesson conducted every week, Chinese New Year celebration held on February 24-25, Food Festival (March 23-24), Bali Blues Festival (May 11-12), Nusa Dua Light Festival (June 11 to July 15), Joint Watching of World Cup Final (July 15), Badung International Night

elebration of the Lunar New Year 2569 in Buleleng took place solemnly.

Mouse Cremation at Bedha Village

How Does the Ceremony Look Like?

Taman Ayun Flocked by Visitors on Lunar New Year unar New Year holiday on Friday (Feb. 16) becomes a special moment to Taman Ayun attraction as it was flooded with visitors. From the morning, myriad domestic and foreign tourists arrived with their families, spouse and friends. Understandably, it was a holiday used by the community and their families to visit tourist attractions where one of them is Taman Ayun. They witnessed the majesty and experienced the aura of the Taman Ayun Temple posing one of the tourist destinations that presents the history of Mengwi kingdom. Besides, they had a promenade in the garden area beautifully enveloped with cool atmosphere. Some looked sitting in the temple yard, while some others having a

To create a sense of security and comfort for tourists on vacation, Badung Police Alert Unit increased its patrol to the tourist attraction. Not half-heartedly, the patrol was directly led by Chief of Badung Police Alert Unit, Agus Adhy. The placement of security personnel is very concerned, so that visitors really feel the presence of police especially from Badung Police. “We are improving patrols to Taman Ayun attraction because today is a public holiday where people utilize it to take their family for sightseeing. ali Island retains a number of unique things.

Interestingly, after the mouse cremation, the plants have never been attacked by (BTN/kmb) pests until now.

aintaining culture and customs of society so as to remain sustainable is one of the synergistic measures that must be done by the government and the community.

Moreover, she does not only enjoy the positive aura, but also absorbs it by doing spiritual activities, such as yoga. “We once conducted a spiritual tourism activity on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, in the area of Wangaya village, Tabanan. On that account, continued Tasha Elizabeth, she manages Warung Kahuna in Bali to heal people with taste. Therefore, as a yoga lover, she also presents yoga activities and Salsa Dance to give a different vibration. “Warung Kahuna applies outdoor concept by offering natural green paddy fields and one-stop entertainment concept. From entering early February 2018, Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese tourists are getting crowded. Chiefly on the lunar holiday,

Chinese tourists came more and more. “There are also many foreign tourists from other countries as well as domestic tourists from cities in Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan,” he added.

(BTN/015)

enataran Pande Kuri Batu Temple is located at Jelantik Kuri Batu, Tojan village, Klungkung.
