Holy water of Taman Campuan
Believed to Help Heal Non-Medical Diseases he dostrict of Bangli has a number of spritual tourism destinations, including Tirta Penglukatan Taman Campuan located at Sala hamlet, Abuan, Susut. It has four springs that are believed to be able to cure various diseases. Chief of Sala customary village, I Ketut Kayana, accompanied by a priest from Bale Agung temple and Jro Mangku Suteja revealed that Tirta Penglukatan Taman Campuan has indeed existed for a long time, but that two months ago local residents cleaned up the area as it is often used for the Atma Wedana (Peroras) ritual and petirtaan. “This location is also sanctified by people during a ceremony”, explained Kayana, recently. Kayana went on to explain that Tirta Penglukatan Taman Campuan has four springs: the Tirta Pule, Tirta Bungbung, Tirta Pandan and Tirta Tulak Wali. Tirta Pule he said is used for healing, Tirta Pandan for driving away ones miseries, Tirta Bungbung for improving ones finances and Tirta Tulak Wali for dismissing all negative things. According to Kayana, every time someone does a purificatory rite (melukat) here, it is believed to lead to better things according to the intent and purpose, including requesting financial abundance. “People wishing to do a purificatory rite here, they must first bathe down there, then a purification rite in the four spouts in the north and after that in the five spouts in the east” he said. He added the Tirta Penglukatan Taman Campuan is believed to be able to cure all kinds of “nonmedical” diseases. This conviction came to him after his father was affected by a poison. After being given holy water from Taman Campuan, the toxins left his fathers body through the anus and he was able to make a full recovery. Since then, people believe that this spring can cure “nonmedical” diseases. “However being cured is inseparable form having a strong foundation based on faith and selfconfidence. Armed with sincere faith and intention, people will surely be

healed” said Kayanan. Many people come to these springs to do purificatory rites on particular days such as on the full moon, new moon and kajeng kliwon (auspicious day when five and seven day calendars align in particular way). People must bring along pejati and canang oblations. The visiting pilgrims usually come from Bangli or other districts in Bali. Since the place is sanctified, he asks that the pilgrims who come here to do purificatory rites maintain positive thought and words. He does not want anything bad to happen to visiting pilgrims, he added. B N (BTN/kmb)
