Bukit Mentik Temple BTN/ist

vidently Bangli County retains a number of temples having the nuances of Chinese culture. Apart from the Ulundanu Batur and Dalem Balingkang Temple, the Bukit Mentik Temple located at Batur customary village, Kintamani also indicates the evidence of good relationship of Hindu people in Bali to Chinese community. Inside the temple area sits a number of Chinese shrines used to venerate their deities.

Many people think if the Bukit Mentik Temple (bukit means hill in Balinese) is located on hills range. However, people may not think if the temple resides on fairly low plains to the west of the foot of Mount Batur. When entering into the middle courtyard, there are resting pavilion and some shrines such as the Catur Bhuwana as the abode of Ida Ratu Ayu Panca Kerti, three-tiered meru shrine as the abode of Ida Ratu Ayu Kentel Gumi and triple shrine as the abode of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

Next, in the innermost courtyard there are several other large shrines, such as the Ratu Sakti Madue Gama as the abode of Ida Ratu Sakti Sembah Suhun Mekalihan, the shrine of Ida Bhatara During Akasa, Ida Ratu Tangkebin Jagat and the shrine of Ida Dalem Dasar. Uniquely, in the innermost courtyard also sits a Buddhist shrine designed in Chinese architecture.

Meanwhile, the temple anniversary of the Bukit Mentik Temple is held several times a year namely on the full moon in July, September and October. An Aged Hotel Coming with International Standard nna Bali Heritage Hotel has been indeed aged, but not antiquated in providing services for customers. The hotel

located at the zero point of Denpasar, capital of Bali Province, has international standards in accordance with the tourism development in this era.

“Our hotel has heritage package, but in terms of service provision has applied international standards like other star-rated hotels have,” said General Manager (GM), Made Yuda Wirawan, amid the assessment of the Denpasar Green Hotel, Thursday (Sep. 7).

This rawon menu is served with yellow rice.

Until now, we remain to preserve this menu,” he said.

Nevertheless, Yuda admitted that so far Inna Bali Heritage Hotel has not owned thematic food that can serve as an attraction to domestic and local

Balinese cuisine has been popular since the past because it tastes good, nutritious and quite cheap.

Although tasting just a little, it will feel very prominent, so a pack of pepes telengis is usually eaten with a plate of rice.

Pepes telengis has distinctive aromas and flavors. In the dough, it is usually combined with green leaves and herbs, such as sweet leaf and moringa leaves containing chlorophyll, calcium, vitamin C and others. It can also be mixed with other types of vegetables, so that it feels better. If you like meat, the pepes telengis is usually mixed with pindang or salted fish. This traditional menu is very close to the life of farmers at villages. Few children and teenagers are willing to consume it. Pepes telengis will be better when eaten in warm condition.

In the past, pepes telengis can only be found in food stalls at villages. Sometimes, it is also sold in traditional markets along with porridge or cassava rice. This menu is fairly healthy because it uses natural ingredient without chemicals. Coconut oil deposit as the main ingredient is the leftover of coconut oil processing, so it is taken advantage for food in the form of pepes telengis.

The ingredients are telengis, sweet leaf or moringa leaf and banana leaf used to wrap it. Meanwhile, the spices are onion, garlic, chili, turmeric, ginger, shrimp paste and salt to taste.

Before making it, it may be necessary to look at the nanusin (oil making) process that can produce telengis. First of all, make coconut milk from dry or even old coconut.

Because the coconut is old, it will usually produce more oil. When making coconut milk, please begin with grating the coconut. The type of coconut for oil is different from the one for cake. Then, squeeze, so that it can produce coconut milk.

Besakih Temple Sits at the Foot of Mount Agung

ount Agung in Balinese language is also known as Giri To Langkir to express its majesty. Giri means ‘mountain,’ To means ‘person,’ while Langkir means ‘towering.’

R. Goris, a literary scholar, compares the word to meaning ‘person’ to the family of languages ​​found in other places having almost identical spellings that indicate the original equation. For example, the people of Bugis, Makassar and Toraja mention the person with the word ‘tou’ or ‘tow,’ the Sasak people on Lombok Island say ‘tau,’ the Bima people on Sumbawa Island say ‘dou,’ while the Filipinos say ‘tawuw.’

The word Langkir in Sanskrit can also be interpreted as the Mahadev or Supreme God (Master Plan for the Besakih Temple Development). In the Sangkul Putih palm-leaf manuscript is mentioned: “... Kang um is the ring tolangkir Bhatara Pasupati Ngaran ...” means: “... the deity abiding on Mount Agung is named Bhatara Pasupati ...”

Where To Go . . .

‘honorable’ and Langkir meaning ‘stepping’ or ‘the glorified or honored mountain’ as the abode of (Lord) Hyang Pasupati most honored by Balinese people (Pasar Agung Temple development committee). Mount Agung is called Giri To Langkir because of its size and height, another word for explaining the Supreme.

Considering the majesty of Mount Agung, it was then established the abode of Hyang Pasupati named Besakih Temple.

Besakih Temple belongs to Sad Kahyangan (six main temples) of Bali. This temple consists of 86 groups of temples. This group is divided into 18 (eighteen) common temples, 4 Catur Lawa temples, 11 Padharman temples, 6 nonPadharman temples, 29 clan temples and 11 temples do not belong to the group.

All groups of the temples were built in stages. They were estimated to be first built by King Wira Dalem Kesari Warmadewa (913 AD), and then continued by Sri Kesari Warmadewa whose wife is Sri Gunapriya Dharmapatni (1007 AD). Rapid development occurred during the administration of Dalem Waturenggong where Danghyang

Nirartha and Empu Kuturan played great role (Nala, 1996 : 1).

Chronicle of Gunung Agung dated Çaka 11 noted the eruption in the same year and displacement of four mountains stated as Candra Sangkala or chronogram reading Rudhira Bumi. Rudhira and Bumi respectively means number 1 (one) so that Rudhira Bhumi means number 11 (eleven) or 89 AD. Among the three, Lord Putra Jaya is the most glorified with the title Lord Mahadev abiding on top of Mount Agung as Lord Shiva, then Lord Gni Jaya abides on top of Mount Lempuyang and Goddess of Danuh abides in Lake Batur worshipped as Lord Vishnu.

At Besakih Temple, there is worship for gods namely; Kiduling Kreteg Temple where to worship Lord Brahma; Gelap Temple (Lord Ishvara), Ulun Kulkul Temple (Lord Mahadev), and Batumadeg Temple (Lord Vishnu). Penataran Agung Temple is located in the middle because it is considered the most distinguished. Here is where Hindu devotees say prayers every year in the ceremony known as Bhatara Turun Kabeh falling on full moon of the tenth month in Balinese Calendar (April). Batu Meringgit Temple Show Off Religious Tolerance in Bali

In the chronicle of Mount Agung is mentioned that Mount Agung erupted for the second time in Çaka Year 70 or 148 AD, Friday (Sukra) Kliwon Wuku Tolu of the fifth month according to Balinese Calendar. Meanwhile, in the crater of the Mount Agung was found a substance called Salodaka (sulfur).

It is considered to have supernatural power by residents in Bali and used as a means of grandiose Hindu rituals.

Then, Mount Agung erupted for the third time in Çaka 111 (one hundred eleven) with the chronogram of Wak Çasih Wak where each word means number 1 (one) or 189 AD. At this time was held the first Eka Dasa Rudra at Besakih Temple. Later, the Eka Dasa Rudra was not performed for several times.

The next Eka Dasa Rudra was held in 1963 AD precisely on March 18, 1963, falling on full moon of the tenth month (Balinese calendar), Sukra Pon Julungwangi Çaka 1885, but was then not cancelled. At that time (1963), a great eruption of Mount Agung happened and caused the Island of Bali to be in pitch black.

According to traditional mythological sources, a figure named Sri Wira Dalem Kesari founding the Merajan Selonding approximately in 250 AD located in the west of Penataran Agung Temple, where the Selonding gamelan instrument is now stored. He is said to have repaired the Besakih Temple. The word Dalem is the title of a king in Bali.

Thus, the meaning of Dalem Kesari is most likely the King Kesari Warmadewa who ruled around 917 AD. This is indicated by inscriptions at Puseh Penempahan Temple and Belanjong (Sanur). Among the inscriptions, only those at Belanjong that have the date or chronogram: Cara Wahni Murti. Cara means ‘the star’ and has number 5, Wahni means ‘fire’ number 3, murti means the body of Lord Shiva has number 8. Therefore, after being read from the rear, the whole chronogram shows Çaka 835 or 913 AD. During the reign of Sri Udayana, Besakih Temple also received great attention. This can be found in two inscriptions whose copy is now stored in Merajan Selonding and Gedung Sakti inscription in Selat (Karangasem). It has chronogram ‘Nawa Sangapit Lawang’ and ‘Lawang Apit Lawang.’ Both chronograms have the same meaning: nawa means 9, apit means 2 and lawang means 9 (symbol of 9 holes in human body). The whole chronogram becomes Caka Year 929 or 1007 AD. Since the year 1007 belongs to the era of Udayana Warmadewa, apparently the king paid enough attention to Besakih Temple.

nternational Bureau of Dhyana Pura University (Undhira) sends its students through scholarship program to Japan starting in this 2017-2018 academic year. At the same time, Undhira also opens International Semester Program for foreign students for the 2017 academic period on Monday (Sep. 11).

The student exchange program with scholarship to Japan has been going on since 2013 and has sent two students of the undergraduate management studies, namely RR Debby Silviana Hadi and I Putu Gede Wahyu Adnyana Putra, as the ambassador to Undhira at St. Andrews University Osaka for one year.

As the scholarship recipient of fifth batch, Debby Silviana said that to get scholarship program

to Japan she must pass through a tight selection. It started from the consolidation of language, but she is very grateful to get the opportunity to study in the Sakura country.

“I am very grateful to get the opportunity to study in the country.

Chairman of the Non-Smoking Area Special Committee, Ida Bagus Sunartha, said that sanctions given to companies that do not

This year’s graduation was attended by 602 graduates from various study programs. Minister of Tourism of the RI, Dr. Arief Yahya and Director of STP Bali, Dewa Gede Ngurah Byomantara, in person conferred the diploma to the graduates.

Byomantara said that 234 of the 602 graduates or 39 percent have worked before graduation. In addition to targeting 100 percent of absorption in the job market, he also encouraged the STP Bali graduates to become brave, creative and innovative entrepreneurship. “The spirit of entrepreneurship is important because the entrepreneur has the opportunity to move the economy and empower the community,” he said.

The graduates of STP Bali, explained Byomantara, will be able to be entrepreneurs considering the competence having been achieved. They are beautiful and having high artistic value. One of them is Joged Pingitan. What is it?

The Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar held the opening of reconstruction of Joged Pingitan performance art at Apuan hamlet, Singapadu, Sukawati, on Friday night (Sep. 15). The reconstruction involving a number of lecturers of this art campus will revive Joged Pingitan that had been forgotten since tens of years ago.

Chief of LP2M of ISI Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Ardana, who was present on that occasion, explained that it has become the duty and responsibility of the ISI Denpasar in reviving any arts that have almost or already become extinct. “Our duty is to perform reconstruction for the extinct arts,” he said.

He said the disclosure of Joged Pingitan art was revealed from the research in 2015. It was obtained information that the dance was famous in the 1970s. Moreover, this art has ever been staged to Jakarta. “That’s the information we received. But somehow, after returning from Jakarta, this art does not appear again to the surface,” he explained.

Related to this condition, he considered it very important to do reconstruction to the Joged Pingitan Dance. Moreover, several reconstructions of various arts have been successfully done in other districts. “So, this year we carry out reconstruction to this Joged Pingitan in the hope of being able to revive and add variety to the dance art in Bali,” he explained.

During the reconstruction process, the ISI Denpasar has selected two speakers who have knowledge about the Joged Pingitan dance.

Both artists are from Singapadu namely I Ketut Muji and I Made Resa. “We take from the sources

Like at the foot of Mount Agung, there is Besakih Temple, Ulundanu Batur Temple nearby Mount Batur, Lempuyang Temple around Mount Lempuyang as well as Batukaru Temple around Mount Batukaru and so on.

Besakih Temple is mother temple of Bali is located at the foot of Mount Agung, the highest mountain in Bali (3,142 meters). Mount Agung last erupted in 1963 which claimed many victims, burned thousands of homes, thousands of hectares of paddy fields and moors as well as caused thousands of residents in the vicinity to flee.

Currently, it is reported that Mount Agung having been in long ‘sleep’ has showed the symptoms of active volcano.

There are hundreds of times of volcanic shocks felt by the surrounding community. Will the history on the volcanic eruption repeat as in 1963? Hopefully, it

Now, Mount Agung has showed it volcanic signs. Technology can predict even though not bringing in one hundred percent precision. Alertness of the apparatuses and the government has also been much more advanced than in 1963 so that the number of victims can be minimized. Many things will happen if Mount Agung erupts.

This is a sign of the times that we are indeed reminded by the Creator.

The impact of disaster is not only on the surrounding community. When it really erupts, volcanic ash blown by the wind can go anywhere. It can happen and disrupt the flight. If this happens, it will certainly have an impact. We do not want to be wonder. Surely, God has sent a signal or gestures for us to be more introspective and always closer to the right path. The exhibition was opened by Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta on Friday (Sep. 22) and will last until next October 31. A total of 35 photos on display belong to finalists of the ‘Bali Photo Award 2017’ that successfully recorded 683 works from 342 photographers across Indonesia. Totally 14 of the 35 photographs are the work of the first, second, third winner and favorite winner.

The photograph entitled ‘Mintoni Tradition’ by Peter Arif Tri Harnowo was selected as the best photograph, even earning the highest score for photographer’s work from Salatiga, Central Java.

This photo excels in various criteria and successfully transforms the ‘Siraman’ tradition denoting a part of the ‘Mintoni’ series of ceremonies into the beautiful visual language of images but also contains strong stories.

They are beautiful and having high artistic value. One of them is Joged Pingitan. What is it?

The Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar held the opening of reconstruction of Joged Pingitan performance art at Apuan hamlet, Singapadu, Sukawati, on Friday night (Sep. 15). The reconstruction involving a number of lecturers of this art campus will revive Joged Pingitan that had been forgotten since tens of years ago.

Chief of LP2M of ISI Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Ardana, who was present on that occasion, explained that it has become the duty and responsibility of the ISI Denpasar in reviving any arts that have almost or already become extinct. “Our duty is to perform reconstruction for the extinct arts,” he said.

He said the disclosure of Joged Pingitan art was revealed from the research in 2015. It was obtained information that the dance was famous in the 1970s. Moreover, this art has ever been staged to Jakarta. “That’s the information we received. But somehow, after returning from Jakarta, this art does not appear again to the surface,” he explained.

Related to this condition, he considered it very important to do reconstruction to the Joged Pingitan Dance. Moreover, several reconstructions of various arts have been successfully done in other districts. “So, this year we carry out reconstruction to this Joged Pingitan in the hope of being able to revive and add variety to the dance art in Bali,” he explained.

During the reconstruction process, the ISI Denpasar has selected two speakers who have knowledge about the Joged Pingitan dance.

Both artists are from Singapadu namely I Ketut Muji and I Made Resa. “We take from the sources

existing here, what kind of dance model is available,” he said.

Based on the explanation of the two elderly artists, this dance will be packed by lecturers of the ISI Denpasar who served as instructor namely I Nyoman Windha, I Gusti Ayu Ketut Suandewi, Tjok Istri Putra Padmini, and Ni Wayan Suartini. “Once obtained, the form will be taught to young people here in particular,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Faculty of Performing Arts, the ISI Denpasar, I Wayan Suharta, revealed that this reconstruction is a request of local people in order that Joged Pingitan can be re-

Other than at home, the opportunity is also available overseas as well as on cruise ships. “This provides a great opportunity for a bartender to be creative,” said Bayu Hendra, Chairman of the Indonesia Association of Bartender (ABI) of Bali Chapter.

This year’s graduation was attended by 602 graduates from various study programs. Minister of Tourism of the RI, Dr. Arief Yahya and Director of STP Bali, Dewa Gede Ngurah Byomantara, in person conferred the diploma to the graduates.

Byomantara said that 234 of the 602 graduates or 39 percent have worked before graduation. In addition to targeting 100 percent of absorption in the job market, he also encouraged the STP Bali graduates to become brave, creative and innovative entrepreneurship. “The spirit of entrepreneurship is important because the entrepreneur has the opportunity to move the economy and empower the community,” he said.

The graduates of STP Bali, explained Byomantara, will be able to be entrepreneurs considering the competence having been achieved. In addition to getting involved in creative business, culinary and travel business, the STP Bali graduates can also develop community-based tourism businesses, such as homestay,

At that time (1963), a great eruption of Mount Agung happened and caused the Island of Bali to be in pitch black.

According to traditional mythological sources, a figure named Sri Wira Dalem Kesari founding the Merajan Selonding approximately in 250 AD located in the west of Penataran Agung Temple, where the Selonding gamelan instrument is now stored. He is said to have repaired the Besakih Temple. The word Dalem is the title of a king in Bali.

Thus, the meaning of Dalem Kesari is most likely the King Kesari Warmadewa who ruled around 917 AD. This is indicated by inscriptions at Puseh Penempahan Temple and Belanjong (Sanur). Among the inscriptions, only those at Belanjong that have the date or chronogram: Cara Wahni Murti. Cara means ‘the star’ and has number 5, Wahni means ‘fire’ number 3, murti means the body of Lord Shiva has number 8. Therefore, after being read from the rear, the whole chronogram shows Çaka 835 or 913 AD. During the reign of Sri Udayana, Besakih Temple also received great attention. This can be found in two inscriptions whose copy is now stored in Merajan Selonding and Gedung Sakti inscription in Selat (Karangasem). It has chronogram ‘Nawa Sangapit Lawang’ and ‘Lawang Apit Lawang.’ Both chronograms have the same meaning: nawa means 9, apit means 2 and lawang means 9 (symbol of 9 holes in human body). The whole chronogram becomes Caka Year 929 or 1007 AD. Since the year 1007 belongs to the era of Udayana Warmadewa, apparently the king paid enough attention to Besakih Temple.

This foundation then carried out the repairs to damages caused by natural disasters.

Great attention of the Bali government along the district and municipal government across Bali is given to the improvements that continue until now. nternational Bureau of Dhyana Pura University (Undhira) sends its students through scholarship program to Japan starting in this 2017-2018 academic year. At the same time, Undhira also opens International Semester Program for foreign students for the 2017 academic period on Monday (Sep. 11).

The student exchange program with scholarship to Japan has been going on since 2013 and has sent two students of the undergraduate management studies, namely RR Debby Silviana Hadi and I Putu Gede Wahyu Adnyana Putra, as the ambassador to Undhira at St. Andrews University Osaka for one year.

As the scholarship recipient of fifth batch, Debby Silviana said that to get scholarship program

to Japan she must pass through a tight selection. It started from the consolidation of language, but she is very grateful to get the opportunity to study in the Sakura country.

“I am very grateful to get the opportunity to study in the country.

Chairman of the Non-Smoking Area Special Committee, Ida Bagus Sunartha, said that sanctions given to companies that do not

Pepes telengis has distinctive aromas and flavors. In the dough, it is usually combined with green leaves and herbs, such as sweet leaf and moringa leaves containing chlorophyll, calcium, vitamin C and others. The ingredients are telengis, sweet leaf or moringa leaf and banana leaf used to wrap it. Meanwhile, the spices are onion, garlic, chili, turmeric, ginger, shrimp paste and salt to taste.

Before making it, it may be necessary to look at the nanusin (oil making) process that can produce telengis. First of all, make coconut milk from dry or even old coconut.

The old-style or heritage buildings are very much favored by foreign guests because they highly appreciate to history of the Inna Bali Heritage Hotel established in 1927 during the Dutch Colonial era. “To support the heritage status, we also provide regional specialties such as betutu chicken and rawon becoming the favorite menus of the president of the Republic of Indonesia. This rawon menu is served with yellow rice.

Until now, we remain to preserve this menu,” he said.

Nevertheless, Yuda admitted that so far Inna Bali Heritage Hotel has not owned thematic food that can serve as an attraction to domestic and local

Some yoga activity at Shanti Toya Ashram ecause of wishing to get the benefits of yoga, Warren and Leona from Fit Your Dreams finally had time to stay for a few days on the Island of the Gods. Previously, this couple was quite curious about yoga activities, so they decided to study this spiritual activity to a yoga expert.

“We feel there is a change towards the better condition after doing yoga. Honestly, I’ve got

stress, even depressed that may happen due to a problem. When being in Bali, we have a clear goal namely practicing yoga,” said Leona.

Leona and her husband really feel more peaceful and comfortable after doing meditation and yoga asana. Their breath is fresher while the movement and attitude are felt more flexible. Moreover, it is supported by comfortable, peaceful and clean atmosphere as well as the location emits positive aura. In addition, the menu presented every day is rich in herbal vitamin. “We are practicing yoga from the initiation ceremony to purify ourselves psychically, mejayajaya (ceremony before starting an activity) and carry out yoga in a unique way,” she explained.

The unique experience of learning yoga in Bali is also inspiring Leona who is a chief editor of a magazine in her home country to write it.

She will disseminate the movement and benefits of yoga to wider community. Similarly, the process of learning yoga starts from a ceremony to invoke salvation to God. “We will do this yoga activity on a regular basis. They do not want to keep the experience alone, but will be shared with friends, family and others. “Bali is a very nice place and really paradise. The region is tranquil, while the people are friendly. Their activities are unique like in paradise. If there is a bit of garbage problem, it is no problem, every country also has garbage problem,” she said.

Meanwhile, Warren added that as long as in Bali he just learned to practice yoga at the Santi Toya Ashram and surf in Canggu. After practicing yoga, he went to Ubud, Amed Karangasem and then took Bali round trip prior to departing to Australia. In this Kangaroo country, they will carry out yoga as well as promote yoga. Besides, he will take interesting yoga photos for magazine material. “I’ve loved yoga, so that it will be easier to write, including making yoga blog. Bukit Mentik Temple BTN/ist

vidently Bangli County retains a number of temples having the nuances of Chinese culture. Apart from the Ulundanu Batur and Dalem Balingkang Temple, the Bukit Mentik Temple located at Batur customary village, Kintamani also indicates the evidence of good relationship of Hindu people in Bali to Chinese community. Inside the temple area sits a number of Chinese shrines used to venerate their deities.

Many people think if the Bukit Mentik Temple (bukit means hill in Balinese) is located on hills range. However, people may not think if the temple resides on fairly low plains to the west of the foot of Mount Batur. Lava traces surrounding the temple makes the scenery around the temple very beautiful and amazing.

Priest of the Bukit Mentik Temple, Jero Penyarikan Ardiyasa, said that before the establishment of the Bukit Mentik Temple, location of the temple belonging to universal temple was a river named Tukad Miung. It is said that Ida Ratu Sakti Bungkahing Jagat, Ida Mas Betel Tingal and Ida Manik Balian had a look at the Tukad Miung from the west. At that location, they thought about what was appropriate to be built at the Tukad Miung. Furthermore, they built a temple formerly known as Sapura. Meanwhile, at the location they had sightseeing is now called Belong Temple.

In the long run, the Sapura then grew. At a glance, the temple is far from the impression of a hill, but

psychically this temple is believed to be located on a hilltop. As evidence, when the flood of lava flowed during the eruption of Mount Batur, the Bukit Mentik Temple was not at all affected. “Over time, the height of the river raised or grew (mentik in Balinese language). Besides, mentik is also interpreted as the growing enlightenment, sacred teachings and awareness of people,” said Jero Penyarikan Ardiyasa.

Bukit Mentik Temple consists of three courtyards or tri mandala. At the outermost courtyard, there is a building used to store gamelan instrument called bale gong. When entering into the middle courtyard, there are resting pavilion and some shrines such as the Catur Bhuwana as the abode of Ida Ratu Ayu Panca Kerti, three-tiered meru shrine as the abode of Ida Ratu Ayu Kentel Gumi and triple shrine as the abode of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

Next, in the innermost courtyard there are several other large shrines, such as the Ratu Sakti Madue Gama as the abode of Ida Ratu Sakti Sembah Suhun Mekalihan, the shrine of Ida Bhatara During Akasa, Ida Ratu Tangkebin Jagat and the shrine of Ida Dalem Dasar. Uniquely, in the innermost courtyard also sits a Buddhist shrine designed in Chinese architecture.

Meanwhile, the temple anniversary of the Bukit Mentik Temple is held several times a year namely on the full moon in July, September and October.
