rapat Agung Temple is located in the middle of the forest conservation area of the West Bali National Park, not far from the Segara Rupek Temple. The name of the temple has been

familiar and quite well known among the Jembrana and Buleleng society since the beginning of the restoration and development of the shrines in the woods adjacent to the white sandy beach. History

on the establishment of the Prapat Agung Temple, as mentioned in some sources, is closely related to Danghyang Nirartha when he traveled to seek his scattered children. One of them is Ida Mas Swabawa who was in Pulaki. The search of his daughter in Pulaki region faced many obstacles. His journey was intercepted by darkness posted by Lord Mahadev with the intention that Danghyang Nirartha could not see anything including finding his daughter Ida Mas Swabawa also known as Ida Bathari Melanting. Since the Lord Mahadev liked Bathari Melanting, then it kindled a struggle between Danghyang Nirartha and Lord Mahadev. Danghyang Nirartha performed yoga in the middle of the dark forest on the beach and uttered Sulambang Geni Vedic Puja and Seraga Vedic Puja including Chakra Rencana to illuminate the darkness. From his meditation, Danghyang Nirartha had a pity on the crowd of thirsty animals, and then he created a pond for the animals staying under

his yoga site. Due to his yoga, Pulaki region was back to normally clear. He went on looking for Ida Mas Swabawa. However, he was surprised when seeing his daughter Ida Mas Swabawa was on the lap of Lord Mahadev. Danghyang Nirartha was furious and destroyed Pulaki area, while Jembrana area was destroyed by Ida Mas Swabawa on the request of her father Danghyang Nirartha. Afterward, Ida Mas Swabawa controlled the Pulaki area and abided in the Melanting Temple. Such incident is estimated to occur around 1478-1479 BC or during the second pilgrimage of Danghyang Nirartha. Function of temple To invoke safety, illumination and avoidance from darkness, the Hindus in Bali, especially in Jembrana restore the forest areas by building a temple at the location of Danghyang Nirartha performed his yoga. It is intended to worship the greatness of Danghyang Nirar-

tha. Similarly, near the pond created by him was built a Padmasari shrine. Apart from being a place of worship Danghyang Nirartha to invoke people’s welfare, the Prapat Agung is also often used by people to improve and deepen spiritual insight by performing yoga right before the shrine of Danghyang Nirartha. The name Prapat Agung, according to Ida Pedanda Gede Buruan from Griya Buruan, Batuagung village, Jembrana, could not be interpreted into a single meaning. Prapat Agung was actually a psychic entrance made by Danghyang Nirartha to prevent Bali from the entry of negative things. Or it could also be interpreted as four entrances created to cover bad things that wanted to come into the land area of Bali. Meanwhile, the pond with the endless water never dries out even though in the long dry season where Danghyang Nirartha called it Tirta Blonyoh whose water had three colors namely clear, red and yellow. hen wishing to enjoy the cool countryside atmosphere offering natural attractions, once in a while try to stay at D’Karang Homestay at Undisan village, Tembuku, Bangli. This accommodation having existed since three years ago is equipped with interesting tourist attractions, such as trekking, cooking class, coconut oil making and meditation. Village atmosphere can be really experienced because the homestay is owned and managed by local community as the solution of sustainable economic equity. With this concept, local people come to enjoy the sustenance of visiting tourists by renting homestay managed independently by the community within the tourism village. This is one of the reasons for D’Karang Homestay ranked first nationally in the homestay category on the activities of Appreciation to Community-based Tourism Business by Ministry of Tourism. Having arrived at Undisan village, guests are directly invited to D’Karang Homestay and are served with welcome drink. Then, they

take a break. In the afternoon, their activity is resumed with a joint cooking class. Guests are taught to make Balinese sauce (condiments) as the part of making satay. In this process, guests get a Balinese cooking class starting from the preparation of seasoning, grounding spices with pestle and mortar, mixing them and then twisting satay. After that, the twisted satay is roasted to get cooked. Ultimately, it is served for dinner and enjoyed together. On the second day, guests start the day with having breakfast of traditional menu such as snacks and tea or coffee. After that, it is resumed with trekking around the Undisan village for approximately four hours. Within this program, guests are proceeded to visit craftsmen making imitation flowers from brass at Undisan. Then, they are taken to explore paddy fields to see firsthand the activities of farmers at local village. After visiting a temple, guests take a short break to drink fresh coconut taken directly from the middle of paddy fields.

Next visit is to the Tangkup waterfall at Undisan village. The waterfall is quite beautiful where guests can bathe and swim. Guests are taken back to D’Karang Homestay for lunch. In the afternoon, guests are invited to make coconut oil in traditional method, starting from peeling the coconut shell to the process of grinding coconut flesh to become oil. “Dinner is prepared with a traditional menu rarely found at hotel. On the following day, their day is started with breakfast at homestay before being transferred out. Kadek Darmayasa, Managing Director of PT Bali Bagus Memori Wisata, said the management of this homestay deliberately creates a special service for tourists, especially European tourists. The development of homestay owned and managed by the community around the tourism village is a solution to sustainable economic equity. “With this concept, local people will come to enjoy the sustenance of tourists coming to rent homestay owned by individual communities,” he said. By giving the opportunity to local people to own and manage homestays, it will grow local entrepreneurs around the tourism village. The entrepreneurs allow the potential of tourist villages to be explored and further developed. In the future, tourism village should be able to develop homestay and it should not be managed independently. The development will be good if they are collected in a single entity (for example in the form of village-owned enterprise or BUMDes) and this manages it together by applying modern management. It will bring in a very positive impact and can be realized for the development of tourism village or

homestay. According to Darmayasa, the government through Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya, expressed the ambition to position Indonesia as the country with the largest number of homestays in the world. This is very encouraging

news for the people of Indonesia especially in Bali. In other words, the tourism sector has been on the right track where it is built to realize the growth and equity for prosperity. B N (BTN/015)

From the costumes, we can deliver a message,” he said. For example, when taking the theme of Saraswati, the costumes are made in the form of Saraswati. There is a message on the greatness of Goddess Saraswati coming with the devices brought along and its function. If featuring the theme of Lord Vishnu, it will be equipped with the symbols. Similarly, when taking the theme on fauna, he can insert the message of nature conservation with all its contents. “I once

hen getting bored with the hot atmosphere of the beach, simply make a visit to Baha village. The village can provide coolness with its beautiful natural landscape. Its customs remain everlasting, while the arts and culture blend with local community. And the uniqueness of this village lies in the sustainability of the activities inherited from their ancestors, such as traditional plowing, carving tradition and angkul-angkul with traditional ornaments. Baha village is located in Mengwi subdistrict, Badung County, or about 15 kilometers north of Denpasar. The village consists of 7 hamlets namely the Bedil, Gegeran, Kedua, Pengabetan, Cengkok, Busana Kelod and Busana Kaja. Interestingly, each of which has a typical characteristic so it is often visited by travelers. Moreover, it has Suba Lepud Museum presenting a variety of

traditional tools used when cultivating their rice fields. One of the community leaders, I Nyoman Koja, said that every day there were travelers who visited the shady village. However, the most crowded occurred around 1997-1999. “The most arrivals occurred in 2002 where about 450 people of Korean group were making a visit to our village,” he said. Welcoming procession for the arrival of travelers was usually jazzed up with a mapeed cultural procession. Various arts were presented by the society. For the art matters, it was entrusted to the Griya Santi Art Studio. The only studio at Baha village pursued various kinds of Balinese arts such as Cak, Legong Dance, human puppet featuring Mahabharata epic,

leather puppet and Calonarang. Despite having a wide variety of uniqueness, travelers from different parts of the world often visited the traditional houses that only existed at Kedua hamlet. The house was old enough so it became an interesting object to be photographed. Activities of farmers at Subak Lepud were also no less interesting. Moreover, their plowing activities actually became tourist attraction. “At this Subak Lepud, there are always farmers demonstrating the activities of farming. It is frequently booked by travelers so that they can immortalize it. Besides, they can also engage in the plowing activities,” he said. Activities of craftsman groups who worked together at home also became a tourist attrac-

tion. For example, there were welding groups making meteor handicraft located at Busana Kelod hamlet and wood carving group at Gegeran and Busana Kelod hamlet. In addition, there was also a group making Balinese traditional umbrella at Bedil hamlet. Meanwhile, swine farming group and duck farming and salted egg were located at Cengkok hamlet. Uniquely, coinciding with the Galungan festivity all the newly-wed couples would have a tradition of receiving jerimpen alms, in the form of pork oblation. This kind of jerimpen is really different from the others. The trunk was made from banana stem embellished with various carvings of pork arranged in accordance with their taste. Before handed over to the newly-wed couples, the jerimpen with the height of 1.5 meters and width of 50 cm passed through a mejaya-jaya procession to liven up the jerimpen. “We would like to introduce the tradition of delivering flesh jerimpen to other communities, primarily to travelers,” he said. The village also had an agro-tourism attraction completed with a fishing ground. The object was located in the west of the village with an area of 5 hectares equipped with small bungalows and gazebos to unwind. “This location was once used as a trekking activity for travelers. Now, it is also visited by local communities who want to relax with family.

Previously, this location was prepared as the biggest fish museum in Asia, so the arrangement of landscaping garden is made with various types of fruit trees. Unfortunately, the plan could not be realized,” he added. Another location to be developed further was the forest of Baha. The Baha forest had historical significance, namely during the Japanese occupation. In 1942 and 1945, it was the only crow jungle taken advantage by Japanese troops as their barrack. It had a shelter cave used by local fighters during the NICA administration. It lay under the river and was estimated to be found in 1946. When wishing to enter into the cave, visitors should pass through a waterfall. “If we can realize it, the transport to the cave will use a rowboat,” he said. Since the launching of the Baha village as a tourism village in 1992, local society continues to make arrangement to the locations and develop the potential of other tourist attractions. It is very possible because Baha village is located adjacent to Taman Ayun and Sangeh tourist attraction. The journey from Sangeh to Taman Ayun will pass through Baha village. To that end, the passing travelers can drop in to see the natural beauty of Baha village. To make a tourism village, his party has also initiated a tour guide.

when travelers want to enjoy a new atmosphere. Moreover, the beach is still rarely visited by people so that visitors can freely enjoy the scenery on this beach. Besides, visitors can swim and sunbathe while enjoying the afternoon sun. It offers great waves for surfers when wishing to enjoy the challenging waves. Another uniqueness

offered by this beach is that when high tide occurs, the entire area of this bijou beach will be covered up by the waves. This beach has been equipped with some facilities, such as quite extensive parking space. A number of good places to eat can also be found in front of the Batu Pageh Temple.

raised the theme of Bali Starling and Giant Butterfly getting so festive appreciation. Through this theme, I want to remind people that the nature of Bali is rich,” he explained. Such carnival costumes are made from young coconut leaves of penjor waste having been processed and reconstructed into the shape of carnival costumes. He combined it with cloth, Balinese dancer costumes, kebaya and iron as the frame, so that it would result in the desired design. At least, there are some attractive things in the carnival fashion work made by Agung Rahma, namely Balinese ornament made from palm leaf of penjor waste and movable ogoh-ogoh (papier mâché demon) and played by people like scarecrow or marionette. The carnival fashion was included in various events or competitions in the national or international level. Some of them have received the predicate as The Best National Costume for Mr. Teen International (2015) with the theme of Garuda Adi Jaya Nusantara, The Best Flower Costume 2015 (Sekar Arum theme) and The Best National Costume (winner) in the Miss Asia-Pacific Selection in the Philippines (contingent of Indonesian) featuring the theme of Jalak Dewata. This traditional archery athlete also participated in a series of succeeding the 57th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day in the People’s Republic of China (2002), cultural promotion activities under the theme Gracias Mexico por tu Apoyo al Tsunami en Indonesia in Mexico City (2005), in-

BBTF 2018 Features Tourism Village Potency, 42 Countries Confirm to Participate

englipuran Village & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2018 will be held on June 26-30, 2018 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC). This tourism promotion event commissioned by the Association of Indonesia Tours and Travel Agency (ASITA) of Bali Chapter will be followed by 180 tour operators from 42 countries. “The fifth BBTF features the theme ‘Exploring the Colors of Indone-

sia,’” said Chairman of the BBTF 2018 Committee, I Ketut Ardana, in the gathering and press conference of the BBTF 2018, not long ago. Ketut Ardana said the theme is deliberately featured with the hope of giving a different focus, not just about Bali but also as a bridge in featuring the 10 new tourist destinations in Indonesia comprehensively. This tourism promotion involves buyers from overseas tour operators (TO) that will display nine

tourism villages on the Island of the Gods. “The BBTF this year suggests every tourism village in the district/ municipality in Bali to participate in promoting their potential,” he said. Last year, the BBTF did not feature tourism village. However, this year together with the Badung government it takes the initiative to present tourism village. Each district has one tourism village to be displayed in turn. “The involvement of tourism villages in this BBTF event is meant to introduce the potential of the village to domestic and foreign tourists as actually object sits at village. When talking about tourism village, whatever they (tourists) want to see, whether nature, culture or people, they are already at village,” he explained. In last year’s BBTF, Ketut Ardana said the number of participants reached 200 people from 38 countries. Meanwhile, for this year there have been 180 participants from 42 countries declared their

All components together popularize culinary and shopping tourism. According to him, foreign tourists visit to Indonesia has the reason to experience the cultural, nature and artificial tourism. “A total of 65 percent of foreign tourist visit to Indonesia has the reason of culture, 35 percent wants to see nature, and 5 percent wants to explore manmade tourism like sport events and MICE,” added Minister Arief Yahya. Ketut Ardana is very optimistic that BBTF event this year will be able to achieve sales target of IDR 7.8 trillion with the target of 275 buyers and 225 sellers (companies). Moreover, the BBTF 2018 event is fully supported by the Badung government. Meanwhile, the Head of the Badung Tourism Office of, I Made Badra said that Badung district establishes tourism as the backbone of Badung government. Thus, the Badung government synergizes with ASITA this year to organize the BBTF as a marketplace. “As the host of the BBTF, Badung district allocated fund worth IDR 7 billion from its regional budget plan 2018. It is expected to be the largest marketplace in Indonesia and considered very beneficial for the growth of tourism in Bali, especially in the Badung region,” he said. Badra added that Badung government also designed Sasana Budaya Building in the Badung civic center to be used as the venue of the BBTF in the future. The capacity is quite fantastic namely being able to accommodate around 15,000 participants. By that way, the BBTF will be able to compete against other tourism exhibitions or travel fair overseas. “Hopefully, it can be completed in 2020,” he (BTN/015) concluded.

The combattnats must not show any emotions nor seek revenge, as this is the correct way to conduct war. The ritual is an exercise in patience and good sportsmanship. Yasa said that the number of participants is not limited. All young men from Tenganan Pegringsingan village enter the arena to participate, ranging from small children to those who are married. The Pandanus War is made more fun and exciting by the accompaniment of three selonding sacred gamelan

instruments. The ritual takes place over some two hours, between 2 and 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Many of the participants said that wthey felt happy despite having endured bodily injuriy. These injuries are then treated with sanctified remedies which have been prepared up to a month before the ritual by the local girls. These remedies are made from spices like turmeric and other ingredients that contain iodine. Before being administered, these herbal medicines are processed in such a way as to make them sacred. After the pandanus war, local youths cure one other with these medicines. Many people from outside of Tenganan Pegringsingan village have also started taking part in this tradition. Many believe that participating in the Pandanus War can cure various diseases by shedding blood. You may believe this and (BTN/kmb) you may not! . BTN/kmb

‘Seven Colors’ Collaboration of Two Young Composers

Bali Ready to Host Beach Sculpture Contest Bali will host the international event known as the Sculpture on the Beach. The event is an innovative performance initiated by world-renowned artists that use the beach as a working field. Currently, the same event has already existed in Australia and Denmark known as Sculpture by The Sea. Sculptor Ketut Putrayasa and Art Curator Wayan Seriyoga Parta with national curator Rizki Zaelani have manually designed the Sculpture by the Beach.

Who says that chats at dining table always make no sense. Just look at the chats of Putu Diodore Adibawa with I Wayan Ari Wirawan. Composer of the Taksu Agung Studio, Badung, together with composer of the Gamelan Pesel Art Community of Denpasar made collaboration to produce a creative work entitled seven colors. The strains of Balinese ethnic harmony conjured up the spectators coming that night at Ksiraarnawa Building, Denpasar Art Center, Sunday (Mar. 25). he beauty of the seven colors in the contemporary gamelan music was so beautifully enjoyed. Gamelan fans from all walks of life looked so happy to witness the composition of such nice tones. Surely, it’s no wonder young adult audience filled the Ksiraarnawa building that night. The audience was amazed by the melodious tones of the seven rainbow colors. Moreover, it was combined with the colors of alternate lights

looking like rainbow. “The beauty of the rainbow is born from a chat at dining table,” said Putu Diodore Adibawa. This artist of Tabanan origin said the new breakthrough created with the composer of Gamelan Peselan Art Community, I Wayan Ari Wirawan, started from the idea coming from a shared meal to create a work of art offering a magnificent beauty. “Inspired by the seven beautiful colors of the rainbow, they ultimately composed

a contemporary gamelan artwork,” he said. It was also experienced by I Made Mahottama Warmasuta, 16, who revealed the new atmosphere displayed by Denpasar and Badung through the collaboration was fascinating. They collaborated in combining several contemporary art concepts. Well, it is something new, said the tall man. Similar opinion was expressed by I Wayan Srutha Wiguna, 18, a gamelan player. He is very happy

and proud because he has the opportunity to re-appear in the event of Bali Mandara Nawanatya III. The spectacular performance fascinating the audience from the beginning to the end was beyond the expectation of both composers who collaborated in creating the Seven Colors concept. “The appearance of both artists is beyond expectation. It could have surpassed our expectations,” said Ari Wirawan with an expression of disbelief. Probably, the phrase ‘perfect

combination’ is capable of expressing the contemporary gamelan art displayed this time. Such distinctive gamelan music gave new spirit to restart life on Monday. Both composers hoped the Nawanatya would be able to take place again as a venue for young artists to express themselves. “Hopefully, this event can be organized again as a medium to accommodate young artists to work and express,” concluded Ari Wirawan. Angklung Padaeng X Music Competition inistry of Tourism supported the performance of the Angklung Padaeng Music Competition (LMAP) X initiated by the Bumi Siliwangi Big Family (Kabumi UPI) on April 29 to May 2, 2018, at the Indonesia Education University Hall, Bandung. Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya, did not doubt the angklung traditional art having gone worldwide. According to him, angklung is filled with cultural values. “I believe the children participating in the LMAP competition have the potential to become artists. It just needs to improve financial value so that it will run faster because their creative value capital is already on hand,” he said. According to Arief Yahya, the more preserved the culture, the more prosperous will be. It becomes one of the reasons for tourists to have vacation to a region. Therefore, culture must be preserved considering it has

economic value. “It is saleable to foreign tourists,” said Arief Yahya. Meanwhile, according to Deputy of Marketing Development I, Ministry of Tourism, I Gde Pitana, LMAP which has been held for ten times has another mission, in addition to preserving angklung. It is a manifestation and implementation to maintain, preserve and regenerate angklung throughout the archipelago. So, it has economic value for society. “If angklung is developed, the people’s economy will go forward. Tourism can also be developed in places of the manufacture and performances of angklung. Then, around it can be established and used as a homestay, where some rooms of the residents’ house can be rented to tourists who want to see, learn, make and play,” said Pitana. Head of Marketing Area I (Java), Ministry of Tourism, Wawan Gunawan, added the LMAP is held very right on target. The participants consisted of

national level from elementary, junior high, high school, and college / general category. “LMAP becomes one of the attractions of the tourism industry. In this case, it refers to the value of global show and national standard,” said Wawan. Carrying the theme of ‘Angklung Music of Indonesia,’ LMAP of this year targets to be followed by 100 groups or 5000 angklung players from various provinces in Indonesia. This theme is taken as an invitation to the participants, spectators, and the general public to love more Indonesian music from Sabang to Merauke through angklung as a medium of music education. “Later, quality of each Angklung Choir Group (KPA) will be assessed. Based on this, the Kabumi UPI would like to make LMAP into the effort to create a concrete form of purpose and ideals through cultural mission activities packed in the form of contests,” (BTN/014) said Wawan. Project of the Sculpture on the Beach can open a new space for Bali’s future art scene. “Side art Projects for the project on the beach can only be found in three locations in the world, namely on Berawa Beach, in Perth Australia, and Denmark in Europe namely located on the famous Cyprus Beach,” he explained. According to Wayan Seriyoga Parta, his side tried to work on the coastal events by displaying sculptures, three-dimensional works. Bali having many beaches can be utilized everywhere. “In the future, we want this event to become an annual event, where our initiator consisting of Gurat Institute and Richstone has been finalizing this concept carefully, so that we can choose the location,” said Yoga while adding it can be organized by government agency or private sector as long as it is done seriously. The activities on Berawa Beach some time ago involved 11 artists from Bali, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, such as Titarubi, Ichwan Noor, Hedi Haryanto, Teguh Priyono, Ismanto Wahyudi, Putu Adi Gunawan, Putu Sutawijaya and Nyoman Aditama. From Bali, there are Ketut Putrayasa, Wayan Setem while from Bandung there was Wily Himawan. “This exhibition is more directed to build a market network in Bali. This is as preliminary evidence if this activity received a positive appreciation, apart from the remaining deficiencies that must be corrected,” he concluded. B N (BTN/015)

Badung Provides Multi Segment Needs of Tourists

BTN/ist

ogether with Badung Tourism Promotion Board (BPPD) and tourism association, Badung makes market segmentation, targeting and positioning. “To reach 6.5 million foreign tourists visit, we do market segmentation, targeting and positioning,” said the Head of Badung Tourism Office, I Made Badra, during the focus group discussion (FGD) at Trans Hotel Kuta, recently. Made Badra explained that market segmentation is based on the country of origin of tourists, age, gender and others. Further, it is related to the number of tourist visits that will be targeted. “Positioning related to our position when selling this product namely realizing Badung as a multi-segment destination in Badung,” he explained. Meanwhile, physical infrastructure that will be fixed by Badung government is the installation of Wi-Fi from Southern to Northern Badung. In addition to focusing on the five tourism villages to be developed, both facilities and budgets are also prepared. The five

T

tourism villages are Bongkasa Pertiwi, Carangsari, Mengwi, Plaga and Pangsan. After these five villages, it will be resumed to develop other tourism villages. Chairman of the Badung Regional Tourism Promotion Board (BPPD), I Gusti Agung Rai Suryawijaya, said that Badung has provided the multi-segment needs of foreign tourists. For example, the Australian guest segment is centered in Kuta area, MICE guests are centered in Nusa Dua area, nomadic guests are centered Canggu, and other segments. “Foreign tourists traveling to Badung district belong to multi segment. To strengthen such various segments, the BPPD Badung does a mapping. Rai Suryawijaya explained it is meant to complete supporting facilities in each segment. Badung is ideal for multi-segment guests, but more sharply it needs to look for the lack of facilities, so the results become more perfect. “We will use this as reference and the recommendation will be used in the tourism development of Badung 2018. We’d like to get input what

program has not been worked on,” he explained. He said that all markets have been developed and will develop other markets. Western Europe has indeed been worked on, and then will work on Central Europe and Eastern Europe. In addition, it also continues to work on Asian markets such as Japan, Korea, China and India. The existing market will be maintained by attending tourism fair to maintain network, update information, contract and business. The BPPD is also working on the Indian market because India’s 1.3 billion people has 20 percent of middle class. Suppose that five percent of it comes to Bali, it is considered profitable. The effort to grab the Indian market is through cooperation with Garuda Indonesia to open direct flights. With direct flights from Denpasar to Mumbai and vice versa, it can be reached within seven hours. “This will add their interest to come,” he said. In addition, the similarities of Balinese and Indian culture can also become a promotional product. Indian guests are also rated better than Chinese because they always stay in three-, four- or fivestar hotels. Their length of stay is quite long, namely five days, so their spending money will also be more. Through this FGD, continued Rai Suryawijaya, his organization gets input related to the existing destinations in Badung namely rural and urban destinations. The rural destination is located in North Badung while the urban destination is intended for MICE in South Badung. “Our industry would like to integrate the multi-event products. Regarding the marketing, we apply BAS namely Branding of Product, Advertising and Selling,” he concluded. BTN (BTN/015)

He explained the era of industrial revolution 4.0 or known as the Disruption Era has began to happen today. This new pattern change becomes the biggest challenge for

One of them is by equipping themselves with cross-cultural knowledge through the exchange of students and internships in the industry,” he explained. Darmayasa added that his organization will involve foreign students from Japan and Indonesia to introduce the culture and language they have in the learning process in UKP Petra and Bali. ali Starlings known locally as Jalak Bali are Bali’s official bird. These beautiful little birds are only found wild in the West Bali National Park and parts of Nusa Penida Island. Unlike many other starlings that visually blend into their surroundings, Jalak Bali’s black and white plumage stands in contrast to the verdant foliage of Bali jungles, and so they have developed other ways of avoiding predators, such as spending most of their time in treetops. Another behavior that sets these birds apart from other members of their genus, is that when they go looking for food and water, they do so in groups to ensure security. Jalak Bali mate during the rainy season and the bluish-green eggs are just 2-3 cm long. In an effort to conserve this rare bird that is popular with bird collectors, foundations and individuals have started to breed bali starlings in captivity to ensure that these lovely birds do not go extinct. elated to the love for Bali, the Consulate-General of Australia held a Public Outreach event for NGOs and citizens on the Island of the Gods. At the same time, it also launched the Australian Government’s #smartvolunteering campaign. The event was organized with the Australian Border Force and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of Indonesia, and attended by NGOs and community groups, Consular Corps members and Australian volunteers. Consul-General of Australia, Dr. Helena Studdert, opened the event on Thursday (Mar. 22). Present as guest speaker was Teddy Triatmojo, Section Head of Dissemination and Information Services of Ngurah Rai Airport. With the presenta-

tion entitled ‘Donation of Goods to Indonesia - What You Need to Know,’ Triatmojo answered the questions and comments from NGOs and members of the Australian community in Bali on the challenge of bringing donated goods to Indonesia and Bali in particular. Dr. Studdert said the love of Australians on this island has lasted long. “All of them are manifested in the interest and great desire showed by Australians to help the Balinese and local people who are deemed unlucky or in need of help,” she said. Some of these contributions are by establishing their own foundations with a strong personal commitment, while others do by joining in the members of social

and community organizations and other volunteering activities. “The #smartvolunteering is an Australian Government campaign that encourages Australians to be well-informed volunteers, safe volunteers for children and ready volunteers,” she added. Dr. Studdert then explained there is evidence that the number of orphanages in this popular tourist destination tends to increase to meet the demand of tourists. Meanwhile, the number of orphans has declined. Research has shown that the children are orphans that are living in the orphanage. Over the long term, such condition can harm their social, physical, intellectual, and emotional development. For this reason, the Australian Government’s #smartvolunteering campaign is trying to block orphanage tourism, including the visit activities as well as shortterm and unskilled visits of volunteers in orphanages. The current condition is known as Disruption Era. Disruption is not just a contemporary phenomenon, but also the phenomenon of tomorrow (the future) brought by the reformers to the present,” said Ramia Adnyana, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the seminar entitled Sales Strategy in Disrupted Market at The Trans Resort Bali, Friday (Mar. 23). The seminar held by the Global Hospitality Expert (GHE) also revealed the advancement of communication technology which now far surpasses the technology of goods industry increasingly positioning consumers-driven market (not just for the type of goods and services) but also how the goods and services are distributed. Consumers always

want goods of high quality, affordable price, fast-making process, easy availability and delivery that can be said instant. It should be immediately available, whenever needed. These demands require producers and / or service providers to work smarter and no longer be able to rely on their business planning on the reliability of historical data and market trends. Once again, the advancement of digital communication technology can change market opinion quickly and massively. Thus, there is no longer a safe trend that can be used as a reference of product and service provision. “We need to analyze in-depth this disruption condition, recognize it and then we can be ready with the right sales strategy, so that business continuity can take place as we expect,” said Ramia Adnyana. President Director of GHE, Yoga

Iswara, said the seminar is one of the GHE’s active participations in presenting the media of learning and professionalism to guarantee business continuity through the improvement of human resource quality. “We also use this great seminar as a medium of inauguration or submission of the graduation certificates for participants and the certification we’ve held,” he said. The event was also filled with the conferment of graduation certificate of General Management Capacity Enhancement. This program is designed to increase the capacity as well as management skills with 148-hour meeting module. “The output of this program is manager and or general manager who controls all areas of responsibility to lead a hotel,” said Yoga Iswara. However, after visitors took selfie and was uploaded to social media, the platform is getting more crowded with tourist visits. When traveling to a destination, people do not only see nature, but also find something to eat. It’s a pity if the gastronomic power is not featured. People can remember a place because they feel, not just see,” he explained. Yoke insisted that gastronomy will feature the uniqueness or local wisdom. This is important because the cuisines in the version of President Jokowi will strengthen national diplomacy. So, gastronomy is important to strengthen the position of the country because a civilized nation is a nation that respects food intended for all walks of life. “The history of food from mother to child, the origin of food and the food industry has close relations, so we have commodities such as the coffee, rice and others,” she added. Through this gastro economy, Yoke will support the national program to provide added value to the agriculture, fisheries, industry and cultural history of the food itself. “We can raise community empowerment, so that people maintain the origin of the food itself. ssuredly it is not an ATM of any kind. To be sure, it has nothing to do with automated teller machines used to withdraw money. It stands for Anjungan Tukad Melangit (ATM) or literally meaning the platform of Melangit River located at Antugan hamlet, Jehem village, Tembuku, Bangli, as one of the favorite places for

travelers that like to take selfie. At this ATM, visitors cannot only take pictures with the background of natural beauty of the Melangit River, but also in the swing and some other selfie facilities. Before becoming the target of travelers, the ATM was once made only by local youths to simply hang out together. The materials used to make the platform are only sober ones, namely wood and bamboo. However, after visitors took selfie and was uploaded to social media, the platform is getting more crowded with tourist visits. Operations Manager of the ATM, I Wayan Lendra, recently said the ATM has been famous since more than a year ago. Seeing the number of incoming visitors, he continues to make improvements and arrangement. If formerly there used to be only one platform, now there have been three permanently built platforms. “We make them permanent for the convenience of visi-

tors,” he explained. In addition to the platform, the ATM management also offers several other facilities suitable for taking pictures such as traditional swing and heart-shaped bamboo cane work. At the ATM, visitors can also feel the sensation of camping and picking oranges in person. If previously visitors to the ATM were only charged a voluntary levy, now the management charges admission ticket worth IDR 10,000 for adult and IDR 5,000 for child of domestic tourists. Meanwhile, foreign tourists are charged IDR 15,000 per person. So far, Lendra admitted that the rate of tourist visits to ATM is now increasing.

“The output of this program is manager and or general manager who controls all areas of responsibility to lead a hotel,” said Yoga Iswara. ali Starlings known locally as Jalak Bali are Bali’s official bird.

This new pattern change becomes the biggest challenge for

students who are studying. “Therefore, the generation living in the era of Disruption must have a high competitiveness. One of them is by equipping themselves with cross-cultural knowledge through the exchange of students and internships in the industry,” he explained. Darmayasa added that his organization will involve foreign students from Japan and Indonesia to introduce the culture and language they have in the learning process in UKP Petra and Bali. Other than by IFBEC Bali, this event is also sup-

ported by ASITA Bali. “Through this activity, we hope the students can get the knowledge in a fun way like adventure,” said Darmayasa. BTN (BTN/015)

Bali having many beaches can be utilized everywhere. “In the future, we want this event to become an annual event, where our initiator consisting of Gurat Institute and Richstone has been finalizing this concept carefully, so that we can choose the location,” said Yoga while adding it can be organized by government agency or private sector as long as it is done seriously. englipuran Village & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2018 will be held on June 26-30, 2018 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC).

Druign the ritual itself, youths stand face to face in twos and try to attack their opponent while avoiding being struck by the attacks of their oppopnent.

In Balinese language, / pageh/ means fence or rigid. Thus, Batu Pageh means the beach fenced by ‘rigid rocks.’ The rocks look soaring high and steep. In addition to the phenomenon of coastal rock, the name of the beach is also equated to the name of a temple located on the beach. hen wishing to enjoy the cool countryside atmosphere offering natural attractions, once in a while try to stay at D’Karang Homestay at Undisan village, Tembuku, Bangli.

B N (BTN/015)

on the establishment of the Prapat Agung Temple, as mentioned in some sources, is closely related to Danghyang Nirartha when he traveled to seek his scattered children.
