Batu Medawu Temple n Nusa Penida Islands lie three large temples called Tri Purusa. They include the Dalem Ped, Puncak Mundi and Batu Medawu Temple. Batu Medawu Temple is located at Suana village, right in the west of Semaya hamlet. As one of the Sad Kahyangan temples in Klungkung, it has a long history. Jero Mangku Sugianta explained that Batu Medawu name was originated from the word perahu (traditional boat) splitting a rock. The temple priest from of Batu Mulapan hamlet said the history on the origin was reinforced with Nusa Penida Chronicle that told about the story on I Renggan, one of the grandsons of Dukuh Jumpungan that would like to conquer Bali by riding his magic boat. In the story, I Renggan was believed if he could split any land passed through by his boat and it would then be transformed into sea. “Lord Toh Langkir knew such a desire, so he made I Renggan unable to control the boat and fell asleep. His boat was stranded in Manggis, Karangasem, and the island was crashed and halved. Ultimately, it only left the small islands as we can see today around Padangbai,” he explained. Jero Mangku said that due to his failure I Renggan tried to come back to Nusa Penida through the eastern part of the island. When being about to moor his boat, she was apparently out of control. Instead, his boat passed the beach and broke a dune of stones in the eastern part of the island. In short, the ruins of boat owned by I Renggan was made a place of worship which is now called Batu Medawu Temple. Jero Mangku confirmed the story was increasingly strengthened by a symbol in the form of building resembling a stern that seemed to describe a boat splitting the stone mound. The building could be seen in the Batu Medawu Temple, precisely in the Segara Temple. As a sanctum to invoke wisdom, the Batu Medawu Temple is really different from the Dalem Ped Temple functioned to pray for strength, he explained. Ritual committee chairman of Batu Medawu Temple, I Ketut Rai, explained that grandiose ritual of Mamungkah, Ngenteg Linggih, Mapeselang, Ngingkup, Bangun Ayu, Pemarayungan and Mapedanan were carried out considering the series of temple construction of Batu Medawu Temple had been accomplished. This man from Suana hamlet hoped the ritual could be known to all the people of Nusa Penida in particular and Hindus in general, so they could come to pay devotional works and say prayers as a form of devotion to the deities venerated in the Batu Medawu Temple. This temple has a mountainseaward concept. There is a combination of mainland and the ocean in the form of beauty. In the Batu Medawu Temple, each pilgrim will say prayers for three times, namely in the

This cosmic dance is also a symbol of world rotation that attracts the power of the gods and the universe. It is presented with the hope that God is delighted to give blessings in the form of soil fertility and people’s prosperity. ingredient. One of them is Balinese pomelo salad or rujak juwuk Bali. This ingredient or usually called jerungga in Balinese is liked best by many people. In the heat of the sun, this fruit salad is in demand because it produces water tasting sweet mixed with sour. Its lovers are very diverse as well such as children, teenagers, parents to toothless grandparents. When

squeezed, it will produce water tasting fresh. The salad is prepared by adding sauces onto the ingredient. Salad of this type is usually sold in roadside modest stalls characterized by the presence of a pestle and mortar on the table. To prepare it, the outer skin of the pomelo should be peeled out. Then, the flesh is removed from the inner skin. Prepare appropriate sauces according to taste. By and large, the sauces in use consist of tamarind paste, shrimp paste, salt and chili to taste. Then, it is added with sweetener like palm sugar. Having mixed, stir them well to produce good flavor. Formerly, people prepared mixed salads with young banana tree, belonging to stony banana variety. Its sauce was also very simple, so that it helped digestion in the stomach smoother. Unfortunately, the Balinese pomelo is increasingly rare today so that it is very difficult to find the bigger ones. Now, it is brought in from Java and other regions in the archipelago. As information, Balinese pomelo has a dark green skin and red flesh. When being unripe, it will taste sour, but after turning perfectly ripe it will taste sweet. (BTN/015)

Tumpek Krulut, Gamelan Ritual to Praise Lord Ishvara

BTN/bud

indus in Bali celebrate Tumpek Krulut ritual every six months or 210 days. The nearest one falls on Saniscara Kliwon Krulut or Saturday (May 20). It is often referred to as the piodalan or anniversary of gamelan instrument because the Hindus in Bali perform ritual for the sound device with beautiful sound and divine vibration. Prof. Dr. I Made Surada, a lecturer of Hindu Dharma State

Where To Go . . .

Institute (IHDN) Denpasar, said that literally krulut is derived from the word lulut meaning ‘love, affection.’ At that time, the Hindus hold ceremonies for all kinds of gamelan instrument, worshiping God in his manifestation as Lord Ishvara. “Tumpek Krulut is really dedicated to Lord Ishvara who is believed to be the deity of sound in the music or gamelan art,” he explained. At this ceremony, the Hindus put offerings for gamelan, ranging from gong kebyar, semara pagul-

ingan, gong gede, kebua, gender and other gamelan. “With this ritual, people invoke that gamelan can function and provide a sense of beauty and balance in the art considering that life is inseparable from the sense of beauty,” he added. In this age, affection is often associated with Valentine’s Day. Hindus in Bali actually have a day of love celebrated every six months. “The ritual is intended to remind people of loving each other so that there is a sense of happi-

ness, calmness and prosperity. Without a happy life and mutual love, the purpose of life cannot be achieved. In India, this celebration is associated with the Day of Raksa Bandan which is similar to Valentine’s Day,” he explained. He said that interpreting the ceremony of Tumpek Krulut inwardly means that it is dedicated to Lord Ishvara contained in the speech of man, human utterance so that human is called to exist. Humans are characterized by sound. When humans communicate to others, it is dominated by sounds. “So, there is a proverb saying munyi ane madasar terus diingat (logical utterances will always be remembered),” he said. Utterances can also harm human self if spoken carelessly. Moreover, it can result in death. Instead, a good utterance can make friends and something useful. Interpreting the Tumpek Krulut ritual is not only on the gamelan alone or the external matters. The most important is the awareness of the utterances stating the existence of people. Hinduism clearly states: wasista nimitanta menemu pati (utterances can result in death), nimitanta wasista menemu mitra (utterances lead you to get a friend) and wasista nimitanta manemu laksmi (utterances lead you to find happiness). Implementation of Tumpek Krulut ritual is adapted to desa kala patra (location, time and circumstance). At a boarding house,

it is enough to offer offerings in the platform shrine while at home can be put in triple-chamber shrine because the Hindus believe in Bhatara Hyang Guru. Elsewhere is determined by semaya (agreement) such as at village temple or wherever possible. Most importantly, it is carried out with sincerity. “As long as there is balance inside and outside, we can enthrone the deity of gamelan inside,” he added. That is the way of the Hindus to interpret the ceremony in order to help provide bliss for the individual self as well as the objects honored with the ceremony. “Please bear in mind, on the Tumpek Krulut devotees do not adore gamelan, but dedicate devotion to the deity of gamelan so that it could function, give beauty and benefit humans,” he concluded. aving occupied various agencies, such as the mining, livestock and fishery agency, finally Made Badra is appointed to fill in his latest post as the Head of the Badung Tourism Office. Many people consider this position is the most appropriate. Why? There are many reasons. Among other things, this man is living in the heart of the Kuta tourist resort as a resident of Pande Mas hamlet, Kuta. Another reason, he has graduated his education in tourism studies. Thus, it is very appropriate for him. To him, wherever devoting, one must totally and consistently work for the benefit of

society. “Wherever placed, surely we must give the best to the society,” he said. As a new ‘commander’ in the Badung tourism office, there are definitely some things that will be further sharpened by increasing cooperation and synergy with other stakeholders. “We must cooperate, so that our goal will be achieved quickly,” he said. At least there are three things to be promoted, namely marketing, tourist attractions in each tourist destination, and bridging the tourism business sector, government, people of Badung and other components. “I will do quick measures in accordance with the direction of the regent,” he said. Some of the breakthroughs include the development of tourism village by highlighting cultural aspect, culinary heritage, agricultural production, nature and others. For example, Carangsari village has native art show known as Tupeng Tugek (Mask). “We will design it in such a way, so that it is really able to draw travelers with the support of all parties,” he said. This is just an example, there are surely many other things needed to be done, whether in a large or small scale project or simply maintaining and improving the quality and awareness of the public on the importance of tourism. “To that end, once again I beg to work together heading for the better condition of the Badung tourism,” he hoped. ism winning several awards as the best tourism promotional film attracted the attention and received praise from professional visitors at the B-Travel Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain. Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Madrid Yuli Mumpuni Widarso said on Tuesday (Apr. 25) that the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia screens the film of Wonderful Indonesia, alternately with the other films promoting various destinations in Indonesia. “Screening of the film in the front of the Indonesian pavilion with the area of 50 square meters is a decisive decision because it drew the attention of Indonesian Pavilion guests with the theme ‘Wonderful Indonesia,” he said. CEO of Fira Barcelona, the organizer of B-Travel, Jordi Clos Llombart, said that he was impressed with the strains of ‘Wonderful World’ songs of the Indonesian Pavilion. He also visited the Indonesian Pavilion as the first point of his visit to the international event. The 25th edition of BTravel Exposition 2017 was followed by 1,060 tourism industries from 56 countries other than Indonesia such as Argentina, China, Ecuador, Jamaica, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Croatia, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, France, Peru,

Portugal, Singapore, and Tunisia. In addition, it is also followed by the ten provinces in Spain such as Andalusia, Catalonia, Castile and Leon, Galicia, Rioja, and Valencia that are showing off the tourism industries including the sectors of transportation, airlines, cruises, hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and travel operators. Meanwhile, Obdulia Gonzalez Llamoc, Sales Manager of Mi Gran Viaje from Peru, said that his company is keen to establish cooperation with travel agencies from Indonesia as a member of APEC countries. In both countries are enforced visa-free facilities so that the potential and opportunities are very large. The ambassador expected more and more travel agencies, travel operators and tourism industries from Indonesia to participate in tourism marketing activities to

increase the number of Spanish travelers visiting Indonesia. Based on UNWTO data, in 2016 there were a total of 65,000 Spanish citizens making a visit to Indonesia, when compared to 2015 it rose four percent. The Indonesian embassy in Madrid considered that B-Travel serves as a concrete measure in marketing tourism destinations of Indonesia to European and Latin American markets like the B-Travel denoting a strategic tourism exhibition after FITURE held every January in Madrid. In 2016, Spain was visited by 77 million foreign travelers, an increase of 12 percent when compared to 2015 recorded to reach 66 million. The number of foreign travelers in Spain ranked second in the world after France opens an opportunity for Indonesia to promote the attractiveness of Indonesian tourism in Spain because it will not only attract Spanish travelers but also foreign travelers that are visiting Spain. Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra

Heart to Heart Policy

Gde Palgunadi palgunadigde@yahoo.com n environmentalist who is also one of the pioneers of the Bali tourism, I Gusti Agung Prana, some time ago said that there is something ‘forgotten’ by policymakers in this region. They are not only in the context of government, but also entrepreneurs, community leaders, customary leaders and so on. Their command, voice or decision often has a broad impact on the community led. “Touch their heart, subject’s heart and people’s heart. This is often forgotten,” said Prana who is also a pioneer of Sustainable Coral Foundation at Pemuteran village, Buleleng district. Currently, the village becomes a role model on the development of tourism village whose community dynamically builds, cares for and maintains the village. With the spirit of togetherness, this foundation is able to transform Pemuteran with barren area, less participative community and destroyed coral reef into a village winning the world’s attention. Besides, it is often used as location of comparative study to learn the management of an integrated tourism village. Various awards have been achieved, consisting of local, national, regional or global award. “This is a common pride,” said Prana. He said that characteristic of local

A

Foreign Tourist Visit to Indonesia Dominated by Chinese Market

communities is hard, where they were initially difficult to accept. It is very difficult to be invited, let alone learn about the knowledge of managing sustainable tourist destination. This makes sense because people are still struggling with the urgent needs of their life. They need to eat, need to pay for living, send their children to school, health and so on. It is called how to touch their heart, awakening them that coexistence with nature and keeping it will give a positive impact for sustainable living. The habit of fishing by killing and destroying environment should be slowly abandoned. It takes a long time and definitely a heavy struggle by involving many parties. However, ultimately the hard work bears sweet fruit. People are aware and really have a big responsibility to manage their area as a qualified tourist destination. Not many parties do this because they often forget. “Touching the heart” of the people with the policies they need is one of the surefire measures. How to touch their interests is fundamentally a vital measure while teaching other things to support their life. There is no longer a word forcing the desire of individual or a particular group. There are characteristics of society that must be penetrated in their own ways. Trying to be in their position is a wise first step. Frequently, the current development in Bali ignores it. What they want to build, it is precisely done. It does not matter, whether it complies with local conditions or not, with its culture, religion or social conditions. There is a term known as desa, kala, patra in the life of Balinese people that means place, time and circumstances. Everything must refer to the three elements above. There are customs that apply specifically at a village or known as desa mawacara. Surely, it refers to the condition of negara mawa tata namely it is the state with its rule of law above it and regulates it. No matter what it is, once again, the policy that touches public heart will erode much of resistance. Heartto-heart policies will nurture and bring in vibrations of serenity, peace and often succeeds. B N

The supporters looked very good at composing it into a unique musical drama performance. Moreover, the stage with the setting in the middle of paddy fields right at the sunset time really became a very serious and sweet art show. During the show from 13:00 to 19:00 the audience was completely satisfied and relieved when leaving the performance stage. ‘Twilight Symphony - Sounds of Archipelago’ is the first event featuring the play of harp by Olivia Lin of Rumah Kecapi Indonesia, Gus Teja--Balinese Flute Maestro, Rio Sidik--The Indonesian Trumpeter & Singer, JCorp Dance Company--Theatrical & Acrobatic Dance, Voice of Bali Choir and Traditional Dancer. ife of mute residents at Bengkala, Kubutambahan, Buleleng, is quite unique. Especially for men, they do not only serve as the head of the family. Some of them hereditarily dig grave at the local cemetery. It is inseparable from public belief. Bengkala village is not strange to the ears of most people in Bali. The village located in East Buleleng, precisely in Kubutambahan, is famous where a number of its residents are mute and deaf. Some are due to genetic factors. When visited recently, these people do not live in one neighborhood, but scattered in a number of points. When meeting, they just communicate by using sign language. However, it is not difficult to be understood by the local people who are in normal condition. According to village data, of the 3,027 residents, there are 43 mute and deaf people. Behind the physical limitations they possess, especially for married men has an obligation to hereditarily dig grave in case of the death of local

L

resident. “Though the dead persons are mute or deaf or normal people, they will dig the grave. This has been going on for generations,” said headman of Bengkala, I Made Arpana. The residents taking the task, he continued, amount to some 20 people. Once digging a hole, it is carried out by about five people. This work is done in rotation. As for wages, there is no limitation, but just based on sincerity. “Normal residents can still help them while digging,” he said. According to local stories, this uniqueness emerges from local cemetery of Bengkala village considered to be scary. This causes normal residents not to dare to dig the grave. Moreover, local people believe if the cemetery is inhabited by memedi bongol or deaf ghosts. Faced with such conditions, mute residents are willing to lend a hand to the community to take over the job. “It is the story at issue and remains to be trusted so far,” said Arpana. BTN (BTN/kmb)

It is just like the storyline of Sudamala featuring the story of Kunti Devi as the figure of women who loved her family, including his only favorite son namely Sahadeva. Durga Devi who is jealous then makes a strategy to separate Kunti from her son. Through the power possessed, Durga is able to reverse the memory of Kunti Devi, so that she wants to kill her beloved son,

idatapa village, Banjar, Buleleng, is not only famous for its bamboo crafts. This Bali Aga (ancient) village also has a house with a very unique development pattern, applying the concept of Tri Mandala. Sidatapa village is located close to other Bali Aga villages, namely Tigawasa, Pedawa and Cempaga. This ancient village has good agricultural potential. The panoramas are beautiful. Likewise, the business sector is quite developed. Almost all the local residents are getting involved in bamboo handicraft business, where one of them is sokasi basket. When visiting this village some time ago, an interesting thing was seen in the building of residents. Most of the courtyard still has traditional house remaining to be well preserved in the middle of the modern architecture building with minimalist style. When observed, this house looks unique and distances the road. They are similar to one another. Their wall still uses the earth. It further adds to the classic and traditional nuance. A local community leader, Nyoman Kader, said that the traditional house has become an ancestral heritage. The construction distances the road, where according to ancient stories it is one of the ways to protect people from the attacks of wild animals. Behind its function, the house is also designed by applying Tri Mandala concept like a temple. In the nista mandala or the outermost courtyard is location to receive guests and relatives. It is also used as rest area. The activity of homeowners, like cooking, is carried out in madya mandala (middle courtyard). In this section also sits a furnace as a symbol of Lord Brahma. A different atmosphere is seen in the utama mandala or innermost courtyard. In addition to its highest position, this section has a spiritual function. Homeowners perform worship to their ancestors and trinity gods at this place. Inside, there are also taksu shrine and pelangkiran platform. “With these shrines, people no longer need to make penunggun karang or guardian shrine like other regions of Bali,” he said. The worship in the traditional house is carried out on particular days, such as Galungan, Kuningan, Pagerwesi as well as full moon and new moon. In terms of its construction, this house has 12 wooden poles, called bale gajah tumpang salu. Bale is interpreted as a refuge; gajah (elephant) symbolizes ‘science,’ tumpang salu means ‘three parts.’ “The 12 pillars symbolize the strength in life,” said Kader. Amid the proliferation of modern home development, this traditional house remains to be maintained, especially the people living at hamlet that has not been touched by modern style. It is a form of respect to the ancestors. Meanwhile, headman of Sidatapa, Putu Gede, said that other than traditional house, the village also has a sacred dance like that of Cempaga village. This ancestral heritage continues to be preserved. “The sacred dance remains to survive and so has the bamboo craft,” he said. BTN

Sahadeva. The desire is not accomplished because Sahadeva is the incarnation from the sky, namely the son of the gods. Sahadeva with his power managed to quell the cunning intention of Durga Devi. The anger of Durga Devi transforms herself into Rangda, while Sahadeva changes into Barong Ket. Both forces are fighting all out

where no one loses or wins. Barong and Rangda are manifestation of good and bad power that always coexists. This innovative puppet combines shadow puppets, dancers with screen media as well as the touch of lighting. The gamelan was played by Agus Santiago, while the dance was directed by Gde Arcana. BTN

Beach. Mertasari Beach is an ideal place for relaxing, while bathing, swimming or sunbathing on the white sand. In the late 1976, this beach was used to sunbathe by tourists while facing east at sunrise. When exploring the coast, we will see many travelers lying down along the white sandy beach, bathing in

sunlight or they call it sunbathing. On certain days, Mertasari Beach will be thronged by a myriad of visitors. Moreover, on Umanis Kuningan that coincides with Sunday, it will be very crowded. Hindu people of Bali will cross to Serangan Island to pray at Sakenan Temple. So, do not to miss this rare opportunity. BTN

Learn About Culture at Blahbatuh Grand Palace design of building are selected from the best quality, unique design and hard to imitate. On entering the royal palace area, visitors will feel different aura and taksu or divine vibration. The palace is located at Kebon hamlet, Blahbatuh, Gianyar. Approximately, it is 18 km from Denpasar. Now, the function is preserved as cultural art preservation. On Saturdays and Sundays or at any given time, the royal palace area is full of children preserving Balinese culture. “We provide space for children to preserve cultural activities,” said Wayan Aksara, Spokesperson of Blahbatuh Grand Palace. Elementary and junior high school students learn to dance, play gamelan and paint. In a certain time, there are also activities of making ritual paraphernalia. Participating children coming from various re-

gions are free of charge. “We bring in coach from the royal palace. We want to preserve the function of royal palace as the center for art conservation and invite young people to love their ancestral culture,” said Aksara. Meanwhile, A.A. Kakarsana, one of the descendants of the king of Blahbatuh said that Blahbatuh Royal Palace still preserves all the existing buildings. The location designed pursuant to kosala-kosali (Balinese geomancy) is still sustainable. If there is a damaged building, it is repaired in accordance with the original style. Great, wise and dignified atmosphere can still be felt. Spatial division remains beautiful as it is divided into the outermost, middle and innermost courtyard. Originality of the building architecture remains to be well maintained. Uniquely, there is a carving motif that cannot be imitated, even though done by a skilled sculptor. Gunung Rata located in the Rajadani building (king’s room) is still original and no one can imitate it. All the ornaments contain the philosophy of life. The material of red brick is neatly arranged to form a slash. Because of its sacredness, women who are in their period are not allowed to enter this area, and this ban is also valid for the members of royal family. A veteran of Vietnam War from America, General Tropel, has seen the architecture four times. “We once asked people to imitate the wall design, but none of them succeeded,” he said.

egog music is synonymous with Jembrana. This traditional bamboo musical art form was first created and evolved during colonial period and seems to reflect the turmoil felt by society at that time. This oversized gamelan instrument has a sticking appearance and generates a distinctive sound that echoes the spirit of resistance and the love of competition. The jegog came into its full glory in the 1990’s and to this day, nearly every village in Jembarana (with the exeption of of Peuatan subdistrict) has at least one if not several jogog troupes. According to the Jembrana Education Agency 2012 data there are at least 100 jegog troupes in Jembrana, 76 of which

perform regularly The government of Jembrana is very supportive of this unique musical art of Jembrana and often provides opportunities for the troupes to perform at various events in Jembrana and also by providing funds for buying bamboo when needed. Nevertheless some troupes still struggle to survive for even though they may get requests to perform, the payments offered are often far less that what they should be. Because the instruments are so large, they are hard to transport and in the case of competitiions (mebarung), there is a good chance that the instruments will become damged or broken. To this day, many communities show great enthusiasm towards the art jegog. This gamelan instrument made from bamboo has a distinctive character of sound and can be adapted to any kinds of music. Based on a number of sources, jegog emerged around 1912 at Sebual hamlet, Dangin Tukadaya village and was pioneered by Kiang Geliduh. Originally, this bamboo instrument was used to call people to assemble or to work together. Eventually it developed into a full-blown gamelan set used in performing arts to entertain. From its humble beginnings as a sort of gong to call people together, the art of jegog music has consistently changing with the times. Beginning with the simple form tunes played on jegog when it was first developing in the 1920’s to the “standards” established in the 1940’s. jegog continued to change. In the 1960’s jegog was used in political campaigns and in the 1980’s jegog further developed, following the musical compositions of gong kebyar and then to accompany the pendet dance. In the 1990’s even more creative compostitions were created geared more at accompanying other dances and such innovations continue to this day with jegog music incorporating world music and jazz elements. Central govt disburses fund at IDR 2.5 billion Children are learning about culture at Blahbatuh Grand Palace. People entering the palace area must pass the entrance gate with traditional architectural style. It is beautifully decorated with colorful flower garden posing the native plants to the Island of the Gods. Likewise, the existing big trees are rare plants that grow sustainably. “We deliberately plant the rare plants belonging to the ancestors of Balinese people. In addition to preserving, these trees can also spread positive aura,” he said. Loji, a building to receive guests, is still solid and traditionally embellished. Beside it, there is a set of gamelan instrument commonly played by natural artists from local

Two sacred objects in the form of Gajah Mada mask and Ki Tunjung Tutur weapon in the form of big blowpipe and wayang gambuh make this palace become more unique. he arrangement of a number of tourist destinations in Buleleng district is planned to be rolled back this year. It follows the existence of the special allocation fund (DAK) from the central government amounting to billions of rupiahs. This physical project has entered the tender stage. Head of the Buleleng Tourism Office, Nyoman Sutrisna, explained that the tourist destination arrangement in Buleleng is carried out continuously every year. Especially for this year, the program has received support from central government in the form of disbursement of DAK amounting to IDR 2.5 billion. As planned, it will be shared for the physical arrangement of a number of tourist destinations. In details, they include the making of 17 changing rooms and or toilets scattered in the former harbor of Buleleng, Banjar hot spring, Sambangan, Pemuteran and Air Sanih with a total budget of IDR 1,105,000,000; the installation of garden lighting at the tourist at-

traction of former harbor of Buleleng, Buyan and Air Sanih with a total budget of IDR 520 million. In addition, the development of supporting facilities in the form of souvenir kiosks at the former harbor of Buleleng and Pemuteran are valued at IDR 750 million, and development of tourist information center and equipment at Sambangan village with the budget of IDR 125 million. “It is entirely obtained from the DAK fund. It will be allocated for the arrangement of tourist destinations and some amount will be given to tourism villages,” he explained on Monday (Apr. 24). The project, he continued, has entered the tender stage. As planned, it is expected to be realized next July. “Now, it remains in tender process through direct appointment,” he explained. Arrangement and addition of the facility are considered very important because the objects are still experiencing shortages. On the other side, the number of tourist visit is considered to be crowded, especially when holiday arrives. “Aside from the effort to cre-

ate comfort, it also serves as one of the ways to increase the number of visits,” he said. Further, in order that the arrangement measure does not seem wasteful, the coaching of human resources in each tourist destination also rolls out. “This arrangement should be supported by the community and the management must be implemented well,” he said. Especially for the condition of tourism village, he said to have been running well. The tourist visit is also quite crowded. Moreover, these tourist destinations are touted to have given a significant impact on the target of tourist visits set by the government every year. “To develop it, we continuously do promotion, not only through the event in the region, but also outside the region,” he said. Based on the latest data, the number of tourism villages in Buleleng district

Lovina beach has reached ten locations. Considering its function is also important for the economic development of the community, eight more locations will be added this year. “The eight locations have been researched in collaboration with Undiksha. If they can be included in the tourism village, tourism will be more varied,” he said. BTN (BTN/kmb)

We will start from ourselves among the Santrian Group. After being successful and seen by people, we then disseminate it,” he said. Peak of the celebration held at Wantilan Restaurant was filled with the cutting of rice cone and cake by General Manager Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra and then handed over to Ida Pedanda Gede Duaja Ngenjung (founder) as well as Ida Bagus Paramarta and Ida Bagus Ngurah Mudita (owner). On that occasion, GM Sidharta Putra also handed over insurance cards for all the employees symbolically to Ida Bagus Parta, Mrs. Ance and Dodik. “I would like to thank the Committee 45 that has made this event work well. All the activities refer to the concept of Tri Hita Karana (THK), where

there are prayers, actions caring for the fellow humans and the environment,” said Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra. Griya Santrian today, continued Gusde, as he is familiarly addressed, may be said to be in a very sweet passage. Many guests got sweet memories on Balinese culture and so did the old employees. “Our competitive work productivity and branding with special character have made us survive. Personally, I wish you a happy birthday. Hopefully, you will be able to maintain this very sweet thing and can still be run,” he said. Griya Santrian becomes a pioneer in Sanur, so that during its passage it has a moral responsibility. It does only pursue room occupancy, but also cares and pays attention to the environment

and contributes to the community. Thus, Bali relying on cultural tourism will remain to survive. “As the recipient of the best award, we then become a leader that will disseminate to others. We will start from ourselves among the Santrian Group. After being successful and seen by people, we then disseminate it,” he said. Chairperson of the Committee, Dewi, reported that various activities have been conducted since May 25 to the peak of the event starting from saying prayers at Melanting Temple filled with the delivery of 150 tree nurseries to customary village and then planted them. It was resumed with blood donation that could collect 50 bags of blood, cleaning blitz, the release of turtle hatchling and services to the employees that are taking a rest in the local canteen.

People entering the palace area must pass the entrance gate with traditional architectural style. he arrangement of a number of tourist destinations in Buleleng district is planned to be rolled back this year.

BTN (BTN/kmb)

ife of mute residents at Bengkala, Kubutambahan, Buleleng, is quite unique.

He said that characteristic of local

communities is hard, where they were initially difficult to accept. B N

Made Badra

Appropriate Figure for Tourism

H

aving occupied various agencies, such as the mining, livestock and fishery agency, finally Made Badra is appointed to fill in his latest post as the Head of the Badung Tourism Office.
