Such very severe abrasion happens on the coastal area of Les Village in Tejakula Subdistrict. The pounding of sea waves have eroded the land owned by local

residents. Even, the productive land utilized for traditional salt farming is also eroded by sea waves. As a result, the traditional salt farming ultimately goes bank-

rupt because the land has been eroded. Though the abrasion on the east coast of Buleleng is severe enough to discontinue the traditional salt farming, local government has not made any efforts to prevent the abrasion from getting worse. Government argues there is no sufficient budget to address the shoreline experiencing the abrasion. A resident of Les Village, Sunday (Nov 27), said that many local residents were forced to

sell their land to investors as they worried if their land would run out due to such abrasion. Having been sold, the investors then built concrete levee to prevent the abrasion. Meanwhile, the landowners during this time were unable to safeguard their land by concrete levee due to financial reason and only expected the help of government. “Hopefully, in 2012 our coastal areas could be repaired to avoid abrasion,” hoped the resident.
