LOS ANGELES - Rapper Kanye West set tongues wagging on Monday with his latest music video that features nude portrayals of high profile celebrities including pop singer Taylor Swift, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump and comedian Bill Cosby.

In this Aug. 30, 2015, file photo, Kanye West accepts the video vanguard award at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The music video for “Famous,” which premiered on E! News, featured low-resolution footage depicting 12 celebrities sleeping next to each other with West situated in the middle, nestled between Swift and his wife, reality star Kim Kardashian. Other celebrities include former U.S. President George W. Bush, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, rapper Chris Brown, R&B singer Ray
J, transgender reality star Caitlyn Jenner, model Amber Rose and singer Rihanna, who provided vocals for the song. E! blurred out depictions of breasts and genitals. It is not known if the portrayals are paintings or wax statues, but in some cases it appears to be the actual celebrity posing. The video ends by pausing on the sleeping faces of Swift, Rihanna and Brown over the audio of heavy
breathing. Representatives for West, Kardashian, Jenner, Trump and Cosby declined to comment on the video. Representatives for the other celebrities did not immediately return requests for comment. E! News host Jason Kennedy said “Kanye wants everyone to know this is not a video. This is an art visual.” The imagery for “Famous” is inspired by artist Vincent Desiderio’s 2008 painting “Sleep,” which featured people in various states of undress sleeping next to each other. Desiderio called West’s video “a tableau that was disturbingly familiar, rapturously beautiful and frighteningly uncanny,” in an essay published Monday for W Magazine. West, known for often embarking on rambling ‘tweetstorms’ on social media, held the first screening of the “Famous” video in Los Angeles late on Friday. The video quickly became a trending topic online over the weekend especially due to West’s complicated history with Swift. The rapper famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and snatched her microphone award out of her hand. The duo buried the hatchet at last year’s MTV Video Music awards, but the truce did not last long. (rtr)

Indonesian court to proceed with trial in cyanide murder
JAKARTA — An Indonesian court decided Tuesday to proceed with the trial of a former resident of Australia accused of murdering a friend by lacing her coffee with cyanide. The 27-year-old defendant, Jessica Kumala Wongso, was charged with plotting the Jan. 6 poisoning of Wayan Mirna Salihin because of the victim’s advice that she sever her relationship with her troublesome boyfriend. The two were former classmates in Australia. “The indictment submitted by
the state prosecutors has clearly, accurately and comprehensively explained the murder,” said presiding judge Kisworo. “Therefore the objections of the defense lawyers could not be accepted.” Wongso’s lawyers have ridiculed the prosecution’s contention that Salihin’s advice that Wongso end her
relationship led to the murder. They said the explanation “could not be accepted by common sense.” Salihin collapsed and died after drinking coffee at a Jakarta cafe where the two met along with another friend. Police say laboratory tests showed the drink contained cyanide. The case has riveted Indonesia for months and attracted attention in Australia because Wongso was a permanent resident and studied in Sydney.
Police have struggled to bring the case to trial as prosecutors deferred it several times due to insufficient evidence. It was accepted after Indonesian investigators gained additional information from the Australian Federal Police. Wongso is charged with premeditated murder, a capital crime in Indonesia, but Indonesia has promised not impose the death penalty in exchange for the help from Australia, which opposes the death
penalty. The trial is to resume July 12 with the testimony of witnesses presented by prosecutors.(rtr) News can also be heard in “Bali Image” at Global Radio FM 96.5 from 9.30 until 10.00 am.
