JAKARTA - Indonesia is considered progressively popular among the cruise ship operators or world cruises as indicated by increasing arrivals within the past three years. “Indonesia is increasingly in demand among the world cruise operators as shown by statistical data. The number of cruise visit to Indonesia keeps on rising within the past three years,” said director general of marketing, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar, in Jakarta.
He said that based on statistical data in 2009 the number of international cruise arrivals to Indonesia was 140 visits and in 2010 the number increased to 213 visits. However, in 2011 the number dropped to 189 visits, but the number of passengers increased sharply. As a comparison, in 2010 there were 214 cruise ships visiting Indo-
nesia and carrying 127,674 passengers and in 2011 reached189 visits with the number of passengers increased to 135,608. “Many world cruise operators switch to the latest generation of vessel known as mega cruise such as the current largest cruise ship ‘Oasis of the Seas ‘that can carry 6,360 passengers and 2,165 crews,” said Sapta. NAM to help Palestine become UN member Antara
NUSA DUA - Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riad Maliki has said the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an important instrument able to help Palestine get support to become a member of the United Nations (UN). “This is an opportunity to form a joint effort for recognition of Palestine to become a UN member who will be put forward in the UN General Assembly next September,” Minister Maliki said in a press conference on the sidelines of the 16th
NAM Ministerial Meeting here, Thursday. The NAM meeting which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Movement, on Wednesday adopted a “Bali Commemorative Declaration” which also reaffirmed support for an independent state of Palestine. NAM member states said they would remain at the forefront of support for the Palestinian people to realize freedom, peace and justice, in line with the longstanding international consensus recognizing the Palestinian people as a nation.
