Wooden handicraft exports contribute to Bali’s income Bali Post

DENPASAR - Export of Bali’s typical handicraft, chiefly wooden handicraft made by Balinese artisans, remains to dominate the foreign exchange earnings of the Island of the Gods. The data on handicraft export realization issued by Bali Industry and Trade Services (Disperindag) in March 2011 indicated the export of wooden crafts ranked first with foreign exchange earnings reaching USD 5 million with the sales volume of 3,600,020 pieces.

In the second place, furniture handicraft contributed foreign exchange worth USD 2.3 million, and in the third position was silverwork reaching USD 1.6 million with the volume reaching 328,135 pieces. Meanwhile, other crafts such as rock stone craft valued at USD 1.4 million, bamboo handicraft (USD 1.3 million), rattan craft (USD 1 million), and metal crafts (USD 1.1 million).

In the meantime, the smallest amount of export value was musical instrument craft that only reached USD 385 with a volume of 356 pieces. However, if compared to the realization of export in the period of January to March 2011, the export of Bali’s wooden crafts declined 21.56 percent compared to the same period from January to March 2010.
