Kate Winslet, Kenneth Branagh get royal honors Associated Press Writer
LONDON — Kate Winslet has been honored by Queen Elizabeth II for her titanic contribution to the arts. The actress, who won a best actress Academy Award in 2009 for “The Reader” and made her breakthrough as the feisty Rose in 1997 blockbuster “Titanic,” has been named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, in the queen’s Birthday Honors List, published Saturday. Winslet said the honor made her “very proud to be a Brit.” “I am both surprised and honored to stand alongside so many men and woman who have achieved great things for our country,” the 36-year-old star said. Actor and director Kenneth Branagh was made a knight and will be known as Sir Kenneth. A respected Shakespearean actor whose films as a director range from “Henry V” and “Hamlet” to the comic-book fantasy “Thor,” Branagh said he felt “humble, elated, and incredibly lucky” to get the honor. It puts him in a pantheon of theatrical knights alongside the late Sir Laurence
Olivier, whom Branagh played in “My Life With Marilyn.” “When I was a kid, I dreamed of pulling on a shirt for the Northern Ireland football team,” said the Belfast-born, 51-year-old actor. “I could only imagine how proud you might feel. Today it feels like they just gave me the shirt, and my heart’s fit to burst.” The honors are bestowed by twice yearly by the queen — at New Year’s and on her official birthday in June — but recipients are selected by civil servants from nominations made by the government and the public. Most go to people who are not in the limelight, for

NEW YORK — New York City police are investigating whether shots were fired inside a nightclub during a bottle-throwing brawl involving singer Chris Brown and Drake’s entourage. Some witnesses report hearing shots during the dust-up Thursday morning at W.i.P in SoHo, but no one reported seeing a gun. Police are looking into the claims. Chris Brown, his girlfriend and his bodyguard were among eight injured during the fight inside the club. Police say members of Drake’s entourage stopped Brown as he was leaving. The fight escalated and bottles were thrown. Brown spoke with police; Drake has not. Drake’s representatives say he was on his way out when the fight broke out and did not injure anyone. A manager of a club in the same building was arrested Friday on an unrelated violation.

The Englishman, who has spent 48 weeks as No. 1 since May last year, was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). “I am truly honored to be awarded an MBE by Her Majesty, particularly in her Jubilee year,” Donald said Friday from the U.S. Open in San Francisco. Greek players celebrate their 1-0 win at the end of the Euro 2012 soccer championship Group A match between Greece and Russia in Warsaw, Poland, Saturday, June 16, 2012.
WROCLAW - The revitalised Czech Republic surprised even their own fans by reaching the Euro 2012 quarter-finals as Group A winners on Saturday as the hopes and dreams of co-hosts Poland came crashing down to earth with a thunderous thud. Petr Jiracek’s neat 72nd-minute strike sealed a 1-0 win and sent Poland out to the delight of a small corner of the rain-soaked Wroclaw stadium, where the majority of red and white clad fans could only rue a host of missed chances in the first half. Poland, so full of joy and youthful exuberance during this tournament both on and off the pitch, can also look back on wasted opportunities in the opening draw with Greece and coach Franciszek Smuda said he was stepping down. “My adventure with the national team is over,” Smuda said afterwards. “It is a bitter pill to swallow. We were too sure about the possibility of winning. We had some opportunities in the first half, we didn’t take advantage of them and we lost the game.” The only crumb of comfort for the broken supporters, who arrived for kickoff as huge bolts of lightning seemed to foretell their impending doom, was that old rivals Russia were also eliminated with a 1-0 defeat by quarter-finalists Greece. Foreign tourist visit increases 11 percent
Bali Post
JAKARTA - Within the first three months of this year, the foreign tourist visit reached 1.90 million, or an increase of 11.01 percent compared to the same period last year coming to 1.71 million people. It was stated by Director of Indonesia Imaging, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Esthy Reko Astuty, after the launch of Augmented Reality mobile application services entitled Indonesia In Your Hand in Jakarta. According to Esthy, movement of domestic tourists had also showed an increase in keeping with the improvement in per capita income of the people of Indonesia. “A
lot of travelers rely on the internet connection on their mobile phones to find out information about tourist destinations,” she said. Esthy said that tourism promo-
tion in Indonesia should primarily used digital media, especially mobile phones, because digital media was very effective to reach the tourist target that would be coming to Indonesia.
The Indonesia In Your Hand application was an important breakthrough because when compared to the production cost of 5,000 pieces of information leaflets on tourist destinations that have been applied, with the use of Indonesia In Your Hand application tourists could get information for free. To continue to develop the tourism in Indonesia, said Esthy, the Ministry
of Tourism and Creative Economy supported the promotional efforts by the Indonesia In Your Hand Augmented Reality mobile application services. Development of the application, said Esthy, aimed at facilitating tourists to find out information related to tourism destination and tourism supporting facilities through their mobile phone device.
