Senna believes Barcelona test will show truer picture

President visit Bali

Senna was the busiest man during the test, covering a massive 250 laps, and finishing as 15th quickest overall out of 23 drivers. He reckons, however, that it is very hard to tell where his team stands, although he believes Williams is on par with other teams in the midfield. “It’s hard to say. We were not following the same sort of testing programme as everybody else,” said Senna of the competitiveness of the Williams.

“I think we are there together with other guys in the midfield but we will only find out for real in Barcelona when people start doing more straightforward test programmes and then we will see.” He added: “I think we have a strong platform and we have a few ideas in terms of what we want to do with direction, but you know each track is different. Jerez is very unique track in terms of how it makes the car behave, so for sure we are

there was going to be any drama it would be on the Day of Rage,” Ecclestone told The Telegraph. “They would have to do something then. People there seem confident that a

going to get to Barcelona and learn a bit more about the traditional circuits.” Senna is confident Williams’s car will be stronger in the next test at Barcelona as a result of the productive work done at Jerez. “Well we have been testing a lot of stuff in the car to try and improve tyre consistency, to improve it in the high and low speed, every test we did had an objective and we getting to know the car better and this is the main objective of this test at Jerez. “And now when we come to Barcelona we know the car better, we know the tendencies and the most important thing to know is which direction to go in when we face a problem.”

race two months away will be alright. “The teams are not the slightest bit concerned. They seem happy that things will go ahead without problems. Last year was a more clear-cut decision not to go but things have changed a lot since then.” Last year’s race was first postponed and then cancelled. On Tuesday, armoured vehicles patrolled Bahrain’s capital Manama on the one-year anniversary of the uprising, with police firing tear gas at protesters. “The only message I got was that there were some kids in trouble with the police,” Ecclestone added. Last week, a group of British politicians urged the FIA to cancel the event, scheduled for April, because of the unrest in the country. “We’ve always been non-political,” Ecclestone said. “Any decision will be made on grounds of safety.”

BANGKOK — An Iranian man carrying grenades blew off his own legs and wounded four civilians Tuesday after an earlier blast shook his house in Bangkok, Thai authorities said. The explosions came a day after an Israeli diplomatic car was bombed in India — an attack Israel blamed on Iran.

Bruno Senna thinks the second F1 test at Barcelona will show a truer picture than Jerez about where his Williams team stands. The majority of the Formula 1 teams ran with their new cars at Jerez last week, in the first of three pre-season tests in 2012.

Authorities say it’s unclear whether the Bangkok explosions were linked to the New Delhi attack, but Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said, “we

can’t rule out any possibility.” Thai security forces found more explosives in a house where the Iranian man was staying in Bangkok, but the possible targets were not known,

Police Gen. Pansiri Prapawat said. A passport found at the scene of one blast indicated the assailant was Saeid Moradi from Iran, Pansiri said. Authorities in Tehran could not immediately be reached for comment. Tuesday’s violence began in the afternoon when a stash of explosives apparently detonated by accident in Moradi’s house, blowing off part of the roof. Police said two foreigners quickly left the residence, followed by a wounded Moradi.

Thai bombs said similar to India, Georgia attacks

Associated Press

BANGKOK — The bombs discovered in a Bangkok house after a series of blasts in the Thai capital were similar to those used in attacks on Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia, the Israeli ambassador said Wednesday. While the targets of the bombs was not clear, “we can assume from the other experiences that we were the target,” Ambassador Itzhak Shoham told The Associated Press.

Thai police found and defused two magnetic bombs that could be stuck on vehicles after Tuesday’ blasts, he said. “They are similar to the ones used in Delhi and in Tbilisi,” Shoham said. “From that we can assume that there is the same network of terror.” Continued on page 6

“He tried to wave down a taxi, but he was covered in blood, and the driver refused to take him,” Pansiri said. He then threw an explosive at the taxi and began running. Police who had been called to the area then tried to apprehend Moradi, who hurled a grenade to defend himself. “But somehow it bounced back” and blew off his legs, Pansiri said. Continued on page 6
