Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was traveling to Indonesia later this month partly to prepare for “President Obama’s participation for the first time in the EAS in November,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. A local official in Bali said in May that the Indonesian resort island was preparing to welcome Obama on November 19. Bali provincial government spokesman Ketut Teneng said US Ambassador Scot Marciel had informed the regional authorities of Obama’s intention to attend the regional strategic dialogue, which also includes China and Russia. It will be Obama’s second official visit to Indonesia, a mainly Muslim archipelago in Southeast Asia where he spent part of his childhood in the late 1960s. He made his first official visit as US president last November. Indonesia is hosting the regional dialogue in its capacity as chair of ASEAN, the 10-nation grouping which forms the core of the broader EAS.

Denpasar – The negative news about Bali in one of the magazine previously doesn’t give an effect on the number of tourists coming to the island. This can be seen from the revenue of the Visa On Arrival (VOA) which is increasing up to 18% in April 2011. The revenue from VOA on that period was $4.5 million. Sunarto, an economic researcher from the Bank of Indonesia, said that the income from VOA always was always increasing from January through April 2011 period with the total of $16.5 million from 663,011 foreign tourists come to Bali. The increase was because the increasing number of foreign tour-
ists to Bali. Even Bali was given the nickname of the Island of Hell few months ago due to the pile of garbage on Kuta Beach but it seemed not affected the attraction of the Island. The great revenue from VOA also supports the economics development of Bali because most of the people in Bali are still count on tourism industry. In his report, Sunarto said that most of the tourists chose to stay more than a week in Bali and that affected the VOA. “I’m certain that the VOA which is paid by the tourists when they enter Bali will be increasing because the number of foreign tourists is also increasing,” he added.
