At around 3:50 p.m. Local time on Sunday (Nov 6), a tornado surprised a number of Denpasar residents, especially those living in the area of Jalan Wibisana (north and west), Balun Hamlet and Mertayasa Hamlet at Pemecutan Kaja Village, North Denpasar. As a result, the roof of approximately 19 houses of local resident was damaged. Even, the roof of some houses in dense residential areas peeled off or spattered to fly. Thankfully, there were no fatalities or injuries caused by the natural disaster

According to the Acting Head of the North Denpasar Subdistrict, I Nyoman Lodra, accompanied by Division Head of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, I Made Prapta, his party did not know for sure the number of material losses borne by the residents due to such tornado. It was said the worst damage occurred in the area of Jalan Wibisana Utara. Recorded, a dozen of house roofs were totally damaged as devastated by high winds where the most serious damage happened to the house of Agus Ariyanto, 35. Almost all of his asbestos roofs were blown off by the wind. “Just now, the victim already took about 100 sheets of asbestos. His house is the most severely damaged,” said Prapta when encountered at location.

Meanwhile, 18 homes of other residents were not too damaged or only a few sheets of the asbestos and zinc roof were damaged. The eighteen houses were respectively owned by Edi Saputro, Wardani, Made Ardika, A.A. Ketut Sudana, Dewa Putu Harun, Dewa Ketut Suardana, Sunarto, Pasek Wiranta, Lambertus, Nyoman Raka, Ketut Wati, Nyoman Misi, Mangku Subawa/Mangku Kaca, Abdul Mukid, Nyoman Subrata, Nyoman Budiarta, Wardoyo and Ketut Wiwik. According to local resident, the tornado disaster came suddenly after the rain. “Initially, it was raining but not so heavy. Suddenly appeared the wind like a coil and directly hit the roof of local houses. Continued on page 6

Miss Venezuela wins Miss World crown LONDON - Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 2011 winner of the Miss World beauty pageant on Sunday at a glittering final ceremony in London. Wearing a pink dress with diamante studs that had a giant cascade of frills slashed below the waist, the 22-year-old gasped and threw her hands to her face as she was declared the winner. “I felt the most gorgeous woman in the world. I was so happy and I wanted to shout, to cry, to stand still and to smile. So many emotions,” she told AFP. “I’m incredibly happy for this moment, for this opportunity and for winning and I’m grateful with my life.”

Sarcos, who was brought up in a nunnery after being orphaned aged eight, has a human resources degree and works for a broadcasting company. Last year’s Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, took off her sparkling crown and placed it on her successor’s head as Sarcos sat in a shimmering silver throne. Continued on page 6
