DENPASAR - The chief of Regional Military Command IX/Udayana, Major General Rachmat Budiyanto, has instructed the tightening of security at buildings housing foreign offices on Bali Island, following the death of Osama bin Laden.
“In Bali, there are tens of foreign consulates, and representative offices of international bodies, international hotels and restaurants, and many foreign tourists, as well. This is a good thing but at the same time it makes this region vulnerable, so we must give special attention to security at these places,” he said. Denpasar – Bali’s Manpower, Transmigration, and Social Department, said that there is an increase of the number of foreign worker from Taiwan and China. The number increase 30% this year compare to 2010. The Head of Bali Manpower, Transmigration, and Social Department, Made Erwin Suryadarma Sena, said “the current number of workers from Taiwan and China in 2011 is 180 people, it is increasing 30% compare to last year.” He said that most of the workers are coming from Taiwan and they
work in the tuna company in Benoa Harbor. “Most of them are working as sales division and quality control,” Erwin added. He explained that most of them have been working in Bali and contracted in a long term job, started from six month to a year. The permit for the worker is arranged by the company that hires them. Based on the data of the department, currently there are 600 foreign workers listed in Bali and in addition to coming from Taiwan and China, the workers are coming from European counties and US who work in tourism and education field.
