RIO DE JANEIRO — Tom Cruise took time off from promoting his latest movie in Brazil by visiting Maracana Stadium and meeting former Brazilian football star Zico. Cruise posed for photos at the stadium’s newly installed pitch holding a Brazil jersey with his name on the back. The actor told Globo TV it “would be an honor” to make it to the 2014 World Cup final at the famed venue. He received an autographed ball from Zico, and said he would message friend David Beckham about his meeting with the former Brazilian playmaker, saying the British star would be “jealous.” The Maracana, which also hosted the 1950 World Cup final, is being renovated ahead of next June’s Confederations Cup, the warm-up tournament a year before football’s showcase event.

Maroon 5 launch summer tour, writes for new album

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK — Maroon 5 says they’re working on a new album, but before that the pop-rockers will launch a summer tour that finds the fivesome playing outdoors. The Grammy-winning band announced Monday that they will headline the 2013 Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off Aug. 1 in St. Louis and will feature Kelly Clarkson. “I think the live outdoor kind of summer vibe is always different than the indoor arena tour because there’s less emphasis on production and more on live music,” frontman Adam Levine said in an interview. “It’s kind of the purist form of a tour ‘cause there’s not too many bells and whistles.” The 31-date tour wraps Oct. 5 in San Diego. Levine says he and his bandmates are

riding high off the success of last year’s “Overexposed,” their fourth album that has achieved platinum status. It features the popular hits “Payphone,” ‘’One More Time” and “Daylight.” “It’s so amazing to have an album people connect with and embrace. It’s a dream come true. It’s hard to believe to have lighting strike twice and three times and four times,” he said. “We’re having

a moment. A good moment.” He also says the group is working on the follow-up to that album: “We’re just getting started. We’ve got some great songs in the can.” “The stuff we’re working on now, it definitely has gone maybe a little darker in its sound, maybe back a little bit more to what we kind of did on (our debut) ‘Songs About Jane,’” said guitarist James Valentine. “But at this point we do have all kinds of different songs and it is early.” Levine is also busy balancing his life with NBC’s “The Voice,” which returned last week with new coaches Shakira and Usher, alongside Blake Shelton. “It’s great. Sometimes it’s difficult to maneuver, but it’s been a lot of success,” said Levine, who will have his former mentee, Tony Lucca, open on some dates of the tour. “I’d be pretty foolish not to be happy about it.”

NUSA DUA - A Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime is being held here from April 1 to 2, 2013. The SOM among other things discussed the role of international media, particularly media in the refugee’s countries of origin, in reporting the danger of using small boats to sail to countries of destination, the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry’s Director General for Multilateral Affairs Hasan Kleib said here on Monday. He said international media often reported about “success stories” of illegal immigrants, instead of about how they put their lives at risk when sailing to countries of destination, such as Australia and New Zealand. “Our maritime territories covering 3,000 miles. Refugees could be stranded any time on our shores when sailing from their countries to Australia or New Zealand,” he said. The Senior Officials’ Meeting will be followed by a Ministerial level Meeting on April 3 and 4, 2014, which will be attended by 200 participants from 35 member countries of the Bali Process, 11 ministers, two deputy ministers, delegations from 18 observer nations and 10 international organizations as observers.

1.8 percent of Bali’s population poses narcotics users

Bali Post

DENPASAR - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) currently records that the lowest rate of drug abuse in the country has reached 3.8 million people. “Such figure is based on statistical data with the lowest rate of 3.8 million and the highest rate of 4 million people,” said Prevention Deputy of the BNN, Yappi Manafe, when met at an event recently in Denpasar. He explained that from the figure, the largest portion lay in the workplace, including the workers in the arts, while the remaining users were students. When examined further,

the users among the workers posed advanced user group as continuation of the circle of students. If the central BNN noted 3.8 million people for drug abuse in Indonesia, the Bali Provincial Narcotics Agency indicated that prevalence rate of drug abuse in Bali reached 1.8 percent of the population or reached 50,530 people. On average, the drug users in Bali had a lifespan

between 15 and 35 years old. “Forty percent of that number is teenager, while the rest is working age,” said the Prevention Division Head of the BNNP Bali, Ni Ketut Adi Lisdiani, with permission from the Head of the Bali Provincial Narcotics Agency, Gusti Ketut Budiarta. Meanwhile, relating to the Indonesia Movement toward Drug-Free in 2015, Yappi Manafe, accompanied by the Head of Bali Provincial Narcotics Agency, Gusti Ketut Budiarta, asserted the moment had significance for the people of Indonesia considering the hazards

of drug abuse and drug trafficking today were very worrying because they could potentially threaten the survival of a nation and state, namely the loss of a generation both in terms of quality and quantity. He also emphasized the drugfree 2015 did not mean there was no longer a drug user or the amount of drug user reaching zero, but the successful achievement was judged in terms of three indicators where the 3.8 million drug users were rehabilitated so that they could recover, while the 97.8 percent that had not been affected would continue to be encouraged

in order to raise their awareness in the hope they rejected the drugs. As a result, the market would be getting more closed and ultimately was the increase of drug syndicate eradication. -“It is impossible for Indonesia to reach the drug-free in 2015 because it cannot be done in any country. Then, if the 2015 is declared as the drug-free year, it is merely used as the trigger of encouragement for relevant parties in the eradication of various types of drugs in the country, of course, with a variety of indicators desired,” said Yappi Manafe.
