Loeb claims the 70th win Sebastien Loeb claimed the 70th victory of his incredible World Rally Championship career, and stretched his points lead in the process, as he cruised home to win Rally Argentina. The eight-time champion’s weekend had got off to a messy start as he spun three times on Friday morning and fell to fourth place. But a set-up change at service transformed his pace, and within two stages he was back up to first - helped by Ford driver Petter Solberg breaking his steering while leading. Loeb’s Citroen team-mate Mikko Hirvonen looked capable of pushing the Frenchman all the way to the finish, but with the team holding a big lead over the rest of the field, it decided to order its drivers to hold position, ensuring Loeb’s win. Dani Sordo appeared to be on course for a podium on his one-off appearance for

The Spaniard had settled for a calm run to third once it became clear he could not match the Citroens, but was denied by his last-gasp drama. That elevated Portugal winner Mads Ostberg to third for Adapta Ford. The Norwegian was the last of the frontrunners to avoid trouble as the switching to a more endurance-style format coincided with heavy attrition. Five of the top 10 finishers relied on Rally 2 to get back into the points. After fourth-placed Martin Prokop (Czech Ford), fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th

special for me,” Stoner said. “We managed the race for the conditions of the circuit and as they improved I pushed a little more, the bike on a whole felt much better than in qualifying. I did get some arm pump again but thankfully not to the extent I had it in Qatar. “[At the] start I tried to stay out of trouble, there were people outbraking each other, touching and it was important just to keep out of the way. Then I managed to gain a lot of positions in a short space of time and reached the front. “I didn’t try to pull a gap, as I knew Jorge and Dani were very fast, but I just wanted to stay in front with them and pull away from the others. Then I saw that Jorge and I had slightly better pace and we could make a gap.”

position men Thierry Neuville (Citroen Junior), Solberg, Evgeny Novikov (MSport Ford), Nasser Al-Attiyah (Qatar Citroen) and Ott Tanak (M-Sport) all had to rejoin with penalties after incidents. It was little consolation after missing out on a potential win, but Solberg managed to take the bonus points for being quickest on the power stage. Volkswagen’s two S2000 class Skodas were in the top 10 for most of the weekend, despite a few incidents and delays. Andreas Mikkelsen and Sebastien Ogier had a very tight intra-team battle that only ended when the Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion suffered late suspension damage. It looked like at least one Skoda would make it into the overall top six for a while, but ultimately Neuville and Solberg’s recoveries pushed Ogier back to seventh.

Stoner hails ‘special’ first Jerez MotoGP victory Casey Stoner says winning at Jerez for the first time in his MotoGP career was a ‘very special’ moment in light of changing conditions and a return of the arm pump that plagued him in Qatar. Stoner had only qualified fifth on Saturday, more than one second down on Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa, but with improved feeling on the RC213V he was able to move into the lead within the opening three laps. He was never able to break free of Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo - winner at Jerez for the past two seasons – but hung on even as arm pump problems returned to collect his first victory of 2012. “Considering the weekend in general and how fast Dani and Jorge are at this track, to win here is something very

DENPASAR - Worries of Bali to be left by investors in tourism happen following the increasingly chaotic traffic and environment on this Island of the Gods. Chairman of the Indonesia Hotels and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Bali, Tjokorda Artha Ardana Sukawati, said the arrangement of Bali should be undertaken through regulatory and infrastructural aspect. Though he admitted that government had given partial attention to road infrastructure through parking arrangement and Bali human resources had adhered to the agreed rules, the government should implement obediently and strictly the regulation especially in the matter of licensing. “The community should support so that government later on will not give permission to the public secretly on behalf of particular individual and ultimately receives the coming of investors and so forth. It requires our collective commitment,” he said when

met in Denpasar last weekend. Related to the environment worried to become one of the reasons why investors ‘escaped,’ he said there should be a clear definition where such disorder happened. “Such disorder should clearly be defined whether it happens to traffic or quality of the environment, or even the oxygen levels sets to get disrupted. These should be identified first so that we can resolve the problem. Meanwhile, we see tangibly today the disorder happens in the field of transport and construction. However, for these matters the government has set the

rules governing the issues such as the regulation on regional spatial planning and so on,” he explained. Related to the uneven distribution of tourism in the sense that investors were still focused in Southern Bali, Tjok Ace doubling as the Regent of Gianyar said that to distribute the tourism evenly, there should be a readiness in infrastructure and preparedness of the community itself. In truth, the current infrastructure in Bali had not been evenly distributed. It was indicated by the reality that few regions had tremendous potential but they were untouched. “We have also pampered the

investors excessively. In other words, the business law is indeed applicable where capital owners invest they will give benefit there. On that account, there should be a cross-subsidy from the government. The subsidies are not by giving facilities to investors but through development of infrastructure and so on,” he advised. He added the strengthening of tourism potential should also be increased such as Bangli with its Lake Batur and Singaraja with its dolphin attraction. “Many potential regions can be developed into alternatives so that tourism in Bali will not stagnate. If investors are spoiled at one place, it is feared to cause jealousy to the other regions. Here is the role of local government and provincial government to continuously explore the potential required in each region,” he explained. (kmb28)
