Security at entrances to Bali tightened Bali Post

DENPASAR - After the arrest of the suspected terrorists and pacification of some bombs in Solo last Saturday, the ranks of Bali Police took action to anticipate the entry of other perpetrators to Bali. The security at the entrance to the Island of the Gods was enhanced. It was revealed by Spokesperson of Bali Police, Hariadi, when asked for his confirmation on Saturday (Sep 22). Hariadi explained that Chief of Bali Police, Budi Gunawan, had instructed all levels of Regency Police throughout Bali to increase the security in their respective region. The most important was to intensify the custody, surveillance and inspection at the entrances to Bali such as at the harbor of Gilimanuk and Padangbai, Ngurah Rai Airport as well as several entrances denoting traditional ports. Besides, it was also asked to improve the vigorous patrolling, population data collection and vehicle inspections. In order to counteract the entry of radical groups to Bali, his party teamed up with all relevant agencies, including the Balinese community. In other words, police department continued to coordinate with the entire community. “If there is a suspicious person, they are expected to immediately report it to nearest police station,” he said. Separately, Chief of Badung Police, Beny Arjanto, also said that his party had taken similar measures. Continued on page 6

DENPASAR - Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard is scheduled to attend the 10th anniversary of the Bali bombings at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park in Bali on October 12, 2012. “The event’s organizing com-

mittee has held an audience with the Australian government. About 800 to 1000 people, including the Australian Prime Minister will attend the ceremony,” deputy chief of the Bali provincial police Brig. Gen. Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said here on Thursday. He added that a number of

former Australian prime ministers, the chief of the Australian federal police, 60 senior government officials, politicians and staff members of the Australian embassy in Jakarta will also attend the event. The police will cooperate with the presidential guards to safeguard the Australian Prime Minister dur-

ing the visit according to the Very Very Important Person (VVIP) security arrangement, he said. He predicted that about 4,000 people, including relatives of the Bali bombing victims from Australia, Indonesia and other countries will also attend the commemoration.

The police will deploy 1,000 personnel to safeguard the event at the cultural park in Jimbaran and the humanity tragedy monument at Legian Street in Kuta. He said that the police will also install metal detectors in a number of places and deploy a bombdefusing squad, as well.
