Jessica Biel makes her first appearance since becoming Mrs. Timberlake Two days after saying “I do” to Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel was spotted walking around the grounds at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Fasano, Italy, on Sunday. Dressed casually in a wide-neck white shirt and black skinny pants, Biel had her bangs pulled back and her hair in a loose ponytail. She smiled broadly as she strolled and flashed her massive six-carat engagement ring. Biel’s new husband was photographed a day earlier. Also dressed casually, Timberlake was seen wearing his wedding

ring for the first time. The duo will be sharing photos of their October 19 wedding in this week’s issue of People magazine, which already has a tease online. “It was magical,” Timberlake, 31, called the star-studded affair, which cost an estimated $6.5 million. “It was an unforgettable evening.” The blushing bride shared a similar sentiment. “It was a fantasy,” Biel, 30, told People. On Sunday night, Timberlake and Biel were seen at an airport in Italy — headed to their top-secret hon-

LOS ANGELES — The Walt Disney Co. is defending its newest princess following a backlash over her Hispanic-influenced ethnicity. A new character named Sofia will star in the TV movie “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” airing Nov. 18 on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Hispanic advocacy groups have questioned whether the fair-skinned, blue-eyed young princess is an accurate representation of the Hispanic population and wondered why Disney isn’t doing more to promote its first princess with Hispanic-inspired roots.

“They seem to be backpedaling,” said Lisa Navarrete, spokeswoman for the National Council of La Raza. “They’ve done such a good job in the past when they’ve introduced Native American, AfricanAmerican and Asian princesses. They made a big deal out of it, and there was a lot of fanfare, but now they’re sort of scrambling. It’s unusual because Disney has been very good about Latino diversity.” Craig Gerber, co-executive producer of “Sofia the First,” clarified in a Facebook post on Friday that Sofia is “a mixed-heritage princess in a fairytale world.” He said her mother and birth father respectively hail from kingdoms inspired by Spain and Scandinavia, though Sofia was born and raised in Enchancia, a “make-believe ‘melting pot’ kingdom”

patterned after the British Isles. Sofia is voiced by Caucasian “Modern Family” actress Ariel Winter, and her mother is played by Hispanic “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Sara Ramirez. The film and a subsequent TV series will follow the young princess as she adjusts to royal life after her mother marries the king of Enchancia. “Sofia considers herself a normal Enchancian girl like any other,” said Gerber. “Her mixed heritage and blended family are a reflection of what many children today experience.” Inez Gonzalez, executive vice president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, said Monday that the organization wanted to meet with Disney to discuss “Sofia the First.”

This undated publicity photo released by Disney Junior, shows the character Princess Sofia, right, who stars in a TV animated movie titled “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess,” airing Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 (7:00-8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the Disney Channel.

MANGUPURA - The development of Bali tourism is assessed to have a tendency to disregard the cultures by often overriding the Tri Hita Karana concept. It is indicated by tourist attractions that close the beach access in Bali and close the function of beach as a sacred place for Balinese people.

Deputy Minister of Education and Culture in charge of Cultural Affairs, Wiendu Nuryanti, said that culture was an important part of tourism in the world. On that account, tourism should respect the culture and culture-related issues. “I do not agree if there is a stigma of tourism that marginalizes the culture. Tourism is impossible

to exist without culture. Moreover, to Indonesia in general and Bali in particular, it is impossible to marginalize the culture,” said Nuryanti in Nusa Dua on Monday (Oct 22). To that end, her party together with relevant agencies such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali would collect the data on the number of cultures, especially the

culture that had held a copyright. “We are very poor in cultural data. To that end, the experts counting the culture are holding a working meeting to determine the amount of existing culture and its impact on the welfare of community,” she said. Nuryanti asserted that people should go back to cultural industry if the culture was capable of moving the welfare of communities rather than the manufacturing industry. “If the culture can move the people’s welfare even larger than the manufacturing industry, especially industries that dispose waste and pollution, the community needs

to leave the industry and go back to cultural industry,” she said. Nuryanti confirmed that local forces would be struggled for in the upcoming Bali Forum 2013. The event would discuss about the strategic cultural aspects in development and maturation of the themes and sub-themes. “This event is to strengthen the harmonious relations among the nations, create a harmonious world civilization, uphold and respect the cultural uniqueness and diversity as well as bring in prosperity to the people,” she said. Prof. Dr. I Wayan Ardika from the Faculty of Letters, Udayana

University, also revealed that proliferation of tourism was considered to have not fully provided the space and support to the culture. “In Bali, there is no tourism without culture. Today, the appreciation of tourism to culture is low enough,” he said. He said that in the World Culture Forum 2013 Bali should have the power to maintain and promote the culture as a sustainable and invaluable asset. “Aside from the Tri Hita Karana, Bali has also implemented the concept of interfaith tolerance. It’s a challenge for Bali in the next Bali Forum and it can be featured,” he said. (kmb27)
