Minions

5.0

Collectors and connoisseurs of cute companions, rejoice! We have embarked upon adventures in a new world, full of adorable minions. EorzeanHQ is excited to give you a closer look at some of these cuties, and an idea of where to find them for yourself!

Bitty Duckbill Crystarium | Xylle | 800 Sacks of Nuts “Named for its duck-like bill, this creature hunts not by sight or smell, but rather by sensing the aetheric discharge from prey. It can also deliver a potent venom from the spurs on its hind feet, causing great pain if not death—a sobering contrast to its adorable appearance.”

9 | EORZEANHQ

Tiny Echevore Dohn Mheg (Duty) | Drop “The scales on this critter’s back are arranged in such a way as to put one in mind of the succulent echeveria. Lying concealed in tall grass, it lures insects with its tail, which secretes a sweet-tasting fluid akin to nectar.”

Clionid Larva Akadaemia Anyder (Duty) | Drop “A relative of the sea slug, the clionid feeds on plankton early in life. As it matures, however, it begins consuming flesh in order to satisfy its voracious appetite, and uses the tentacles extending from its head to latch onto prey. For now it follows you obediently. For now…”

Wind-up Nu Mou Crystarium | Xylle | 800 Sacks of Nuts “Designed in the likeness of a former member of Clan Nutsy, this automaton appears so cuddlesome as it were made of cotton. Most folk think twice about cuddling it, however, when they learn it was actually made by a Nu Mou claybender using mud and mushroom spores.”

MINIONS 5.0 | 10

11 | EORZEANHQ

Shoebill Amaurot (Duty) | Drop “Common to Kholusia, the shoebill is known for being literally unmoving. Its hunting effort consists of waiting for prey to wander by its feet before it deigns to strike. For reasons unknown, it saw fit to accept you as its master, and now follows you wherever you go...with the bare minimum of exertion.

MINIONS 5.0 | 12

Chameleon The Qitana Ravel (Duty) | Drop “By channeling aether into its crystal-coated scales, the chameleon can alter its appearance to blend into the surrounding environment in a mechanism not unlike that of glamour prisms. For its penchant for adopting new looks, it has earned a reputation as the ‘glamourous scalekin.’”

Tinker’s Bell Eulmore | Fathard | 6 Archaeotania’s Horn (Fate) “Discovered fallen off the monstrous Archaeotania by an Ondo youth, this enigmatic instrument, half-bell and halfmaiden, is believed to be either an adornment from ancient times or a recreation thereof. Upon it is inscribed an enchantment that amplifies magical power.”

Ironfrog Ambler Eulmore | Fathard | 6 Formidable Cog (Fate) “This diminutive automaton is designed to automatically load itself with the ore which serves as its energy source. However, the function appears to be overactive, resulting in it compulsively checking whether the ore is present. The wind-up key is a purely aesthetic addition.”

13 | EORZEANHQ

Eden Minor Eden’s Gate: Sepulture (Duty) | Drop “In a demonstration of its godlike power that may be generously termed ‘unfathomable,’ Eden created this tiny being in its image. Fortunately, the amount of aether Eden Minor can manipulate is so miniscule that, despite its best efforts, it poses little danger to the world at large.”

Armadillo Bowler Malikah’s Well (Duty) | Drop “Armadillos are seldom caught without their rocks, which they use to defend themselves from enemies. As a large rock bespeaks strength and status, one may occasionally see bravado-bound beasts that unwisely choose something beyond their ability to lift.”

MINIONS 5.0 | 14

Wind-up G’raha Tia Quest Reward: Shadowbringers “In order to fund the expedition to the Syrcus Trench, Tataru crafted this series of automaton, modeled upon a certain Archon, the tales of whom she heard from Rammbroes.”

15 | EORZEANHQ

Wind-up Fran Shadowbringers: Collector’s Edition “Taking a page from the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, Bangaa fusilier Rinok secretly commissioned the creation of scores of miniature Fran fetishes in an effort to fill the coffers of the perpetually underfunded resistance movement spearheaded by Lente’s Tears.”

MINIONS 5.0 | 16

Forgiven Hate Mt. Gulg (Duty) | Drop “A sin eater-esque something or other found on Mt. Gulg. Though it follows you relentlessly, as if driven by hate, it can do little save flutter about and occasionally unravel itself. There seems to be no harm in keeping it with you for now…”

Black Hayate Holminster Switch (Duty) | Drop “Despite their endearing appearance, black hayate are oft employed as guard and sheep dogs, as they react to threats with shocking ferocity. It was for this reason that the breed was named after a piece of lethal weaponry from its eastern homeland, now lost to the Flood.”

17 | EORZEANHQ

Micro Gigantender Amh Araeng | Halden | 400 Bicolor Gemstones “Though known for their prodigious size, gigantenders come into the world small and grow ever so slowly. This creature is estimated to be between twenty and thirty years of age, which by gigantender standards is still considered young. The oldest known creatures are said to live beyond two centuries.”

Butterfly Effect The Rak’tika Greatwood | Nacille | 400 Bicolor Gemstones “There is a theory which states that the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings may give rise to a raging storm a thousand malms away. This crystal has nothing to do with that theory; rather, it is said to simply be the work of a priest of Ronka, created during a bout of boredom.”

MINIONS 5.0 | 18

Wind-up Omega-M Wondrous Tails “This automaton is the work of a goldsmith who desired to explore new definitions of beauty. Upon delivering a batch to the House of Splendors, the man is said to have declared, ‘To understand the one, one must understand the other. For their beauty lies in the whole.’”

Wind-up Omega-F Wondrous Tails “This automaton is the work of a goldsmith who desired to explore new definitions of beauty. When an engineer of Garlond Ironworks went to question the man about how he came upon his subject matter, he is said to have abruptly vanished, as if swallowed into the Interdimensional Rift.”

BIGJUN STEEL Hello BJ! Thank you so much for taking the time to have this interview with us. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. How is your wife? Hello! Thank you very much! I am honoured to have such an opportunity! Let’s see… I’ve been playing FFXIV for about 5 years. Kana and I have been enjoying Shadowbringers together!

If you had to choose 3 words to describe your design style, what would they be? Realistic. Precision. Unity.

You always build such polished designs that look like they could be real! Can you take us through your process? What do you place first? What do you place last? Thank you very much! First of all, I imagine in my head what I want to be the focal point of the interior decoration, and then I start to assemble and shape. Next, I decide on the ceiling and floor design, then place a large piece of furniture, and finally put small items in to balance the whole room.

Can you remember the very first house you ever decorated? What did it look like? My first housing decoration was my FC House. At that time, I felt it was an ordinary house that emphasized functionality rather than design.

What is your favourite house so far? What’s the address? Arabian-style Interior Design - Durandal server of GAIA DC.The Goblet Ward 17 Plot 13. Originally I had a concept of what I wanted, but structurally-speaking I had to wait until I could create my idea in a large house.

What was the most challenging build you have done and why was it challenging? Piet Mondrian-inspired Room - Durandal server of GAIA DC. The Goblet Ward 17 Plot 12. This one was the most challenging because I used White Rectangular Partitions to create the walls, ceilings, and floors with exacting precision.

23 | EORZEANHQ

BIGJUN STEEL | 24

What do you do when you run out of ideas or get stuck? Where do you find your inspiration? In my case, I spend my time browsing images of overseas interior design. In particular, I find the idea floats into my head suddenly while I am browsing without purpose.

You build in a lot of medium houses, and mostly on the top floor. What is it about the medium houses that attracts you? The reason I am attracted to the top floor of a medium house is its ease of use. I can make the most of the layout and space of the top floor of the medium. The first floor (1F) is not suitable because the stairs are a huge dead space.

BIGJUN STEEL | 26

You inspire people across the world with your amazing attention to detail, especially how you use White Rectangular Partitions. What first gave you the idea to use them to make realistic custom trim? After I created the “Mondrian-inspired Room” using White Rectangular Partitions, I became convinced that I could create an even more precise wall design. Since then, I have committed myself to the structural design of the wall.

How does it make you feel when you see someone learn from your new ideas? If someone learned something from my ideas, I feel so honoured and happy.

Your recent build, the Arabian room, was splendid and immersive. Have you already planned a new design for the future and if so, what themes are you thinking of? Right now I have a new design in the making and it will be completed soon. By the time this interview is published, it may have already been announced. The theme is “classic style.”

Do you have any advice for people who are new to Housing? First, use your favorite furniture and enjoy it no matter what! If you want more technical, glitched designs, I think that it is effective to find your favourite designer and imitate the decoration. Imitation is the shortcut to learning and improving! I also started out that way.

Nashu Mhakaracca FFXIV: Hildebrand Questline

The somewhat dim and scatterbrained assistant to the even dimmer Inspector Hildibrand, known particularly for her fondness for explosives. She appears throughout the quest series; in fact it seems to be a running gag that each sequence (ARR, HW, and SB) opens with her searching for the missing Hildibrand. This glam is a recreation of Nashu’s inspector outfit, which she appears in when you first meet her. She doesn’t wear it again in the story, but she is often shown wearing it in promotional pieces and previews. Her regular outfit is impossible to replicate adequately as it includes several NPC-only pieces for which there is no substitute available to players.

Nashu’s chest piece is the Manderville Coatee, a quest reward from Her Last Vow, the final quest of the lengthy ARR Hildibrand questline, which you can’t start until level 50. The boots are Linen Gaiters, although most other gaiters will do, dyed pure white. Legs are Linen Tights (again, most tights will do here) dyed charcoal grey. Head slot is Electrum Monocle. Initially I was going to use the Scion Thaumaturge’s Monocle, until I realised it was on the wrong eye. Torturer’s Monocle also works, dyed coral pink. Ears are Zircon Earrings. The biggest problem with this outfit is the gloves. They are an NPConly design that is impossible to obtain as a player character. I think I managed to get pretty close with Woolen Dress Gloves dyed pure white, paired with Goatskin Wristbands. It’s not perfect, but they are the best solution I’ve found. All the gear, apart from the quest top, are craftable, and can be found for sale on the market board. REQUIREMENTS No class limitations. Levels will depend on which version of each item you go for, but they are all below the level 50 requirement for The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen, which is the first of the chain of 21 quests (including 3 trials) that will eventually get you the coatee. You also unlock the Manderville emote and the Manderville dance along the way. COSMETICS Dark grey hair, but not completely black.

In-game cosplay generally involves dressing up as a character, but it’s sometimes possible to take it one step further and recreate their exact outfit to create an identical look. This is pretty much limited to story characters within FFXIV, and even then many characters have unique designs that cannot be replicated with a player character. However, a lot of NPCs are created from stock parts, up to and including some of the characters you meet in the main story quests. Case in point, fan-favourite Sadu Heavensflame, Khatun of the Dotharl tribe from the Azim Steppe. Anyone who has repeatedly faced her in the one-on-one solo fight is no doubt familiar with her cry “In death do our souls sing!”. To create my own Sadu, I looked her up on Garland Tools, a wonderful resource for in-game cosplayers, both basic and advanced. Sadu’s entry gives detailed character creation information that can be used to compose a complete recreation. Personally, I adjusted her skin tone to be one shade lighter than what’s given, as the original is so dark that it’s difficult to light well for screenshots without making everything else look overexposed, but your mileage may vary. The same resource also lists all of her clothing items. Two problems often found with replicating NPC costumes are that they sometimes use NPC-only items, and that they are not limited by job restrictions, freely mixing war and magic gear, but all the pieces of Sadu’s signature outfit are easily obtainable* by a level 60 black mage. Main Hand | Scintillant Staff (Othard Blue) Body | Bloodhempen Chestwrap of Casting (Storm Blue) Hands | Koppranickel Armlets of Casting (Corpse Blue) Legs | Astral Silk Bottoms of Casting (Celeste Green) Feet | Thavnairian Sandals (Ink Blue) *Garland gives the hands as Kopranickel Armlets of Healing, but the Casting version is virtually identical. One thing I was surprised to find is that, unlike some games I’ve played, NPC names are not barred for player use, so it’s not only possible to create a clone of an NPC, but you can use their name too. That is, if you are the first person on the server with that idea--otherwise you’ll have to get creative. But many NPCs only have one name, so you have the freedom to make up a suitable second name to suit. They can’t all be taken. So finally you have your alt who is the spitting image of a story character, has the proper outfit, and the right name. What is there left to do? Create appropriate user macros to suit the feel of the character. But I think that deserves its own article.

For those that haven’t seen it, there’s a Netflix show called Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light. It’s a fun bit of product placement about a guy connecting with his father through their shared joy of FFXIV, based on an original blog by Akio Hirotaro. It includes a lot of scenes set in FFXIV using actual game footage (as far as I can tell), and this is what caught my attention. The in-game character played by the son, Akio, is a catgirl named Maidy. I immediately loved her look and wanted to cosplay it. I looked around to find more information about her on the internet and was surprised. Although there was plenty about the TV show and the blog, I couldn’t even find a full-length image of her, and there seemed to be no information anywhere about the outfit she wears. So I rewatched the show, took a few screencaps, and went looking for the gear in the game. The base outfit is the Monk job set that you start questing for at level 45. Temple Cyclas (chest), Temple Gloves, and Temple Gaskins (boots). All three need to be augmented to make them dyeable, so you’ll need to obtain four Temple Attire Augmentations (Alchemy crafted) and take them to Kakalan in Mor Dhona. They can then be dyed pure white (Mogstation or very expensive on the market board). Even in the fight scenes, Maidy is never shown holding weapons, so for the unarmed look, we want The Emperor’s New Fists. These are available for 1,980g from Tataroga in Mor Dhona, Goberin in Vesper Bay (once you have glams unlocked) or from the market board, usually for a lot more. Maidy doesn’t have visible headgear, so that just leaves the legs, which are some variety of subligar. The best match to images on the blog is Raptorskin Subligar, but in the TV version the metal parts appear more brown than grey, which doesn’t match any player-accessible items in the game. Finally, Maidy’s hair is available in the basic hairstyle selection. It’s possible to go further and match her physical characteristics, but there’s a difference between cosplay and outright cloning a character, and my aim here was to cosplay.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light can be found on Netflix. An English translation of the original blog can be found at https://transnoteblog.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/tfol-toc/ A movie based on the story was announced at the 2019 Japan FanFest.

CUSTOM MACROS FOR ROLEPLAYERS THE BASICS You want to add some flavour to your RP. So how about making some custom emotes? What about putting your character’s catchphrase on a button to save typing it out every time? This is a simple introductory tutorial to help you add some fun to your RP, featuring the ever-delightful Sadu Heavensflame. First, you need to become familiar with the macro window. Go to the System menu and click on User Macros. This is your macro creation window. It helpfully gives example macros for you to look at. The Text Commands button also brings up a list of useful commands to include in your macro and explains their usage. Macros can do all sorts of things, but here we are going to focus on things that could be used to enhance roleplay, namely messages and emotes.

55 | EORZEANHQ

MESSAGE MACROS Your character goes into battle with a dungeon boss giving their signature battle cry. To achieve this with a macro all you need to do is: /p IN DEATH DO OUR SOULS SING! [/p] tells the macro to write this text in the party channel. Alternatively you may want to use /shout or /say, depending on personal choice.

The text that follows it then appears in that channel, and you don’t need to spend time typing it out whenever you want to use it. So with this example, what you’d see in your chat window is:

CUSTOM MACROS | 56

CUSTOM EMOTES One of the fun things you can do is to take an emote and replace the default text with something more character-appropriate. For example, Sadu has a custom dance emote where she does the Au Ra dance but with altered text. The macro looks like this: /dance motion /emote dances happily at the prospect of mayhem to come. [/dance] is the emote we are using. [motion] next to the emote tells the macro to remove the default text for the emote [/emote] tells the macro to display the following text as a standard emote would appear in the

chatbox, placing the character’s name at the beginning and then adding the given text. The result would give the standard racial dance emote, along with the text: Sadu Heavensflame dances

CUSTOM ICONS The icons on offer in the macro window are a bit limited, but it’s also possible to use any of the regular icons. You just need to make the first line of the macro point to the icon you want to use, so: /macroicon “huh” Emote [/macroicon] tells the system to replace the default icon with the one named next. /micon also

works.

[“/action name”] the name of the action whose icon you want to use [Emote] tells the system to look for the icon you want under the list of emotes.

Other words you would use here include: [General] for general actions, such as attacks or spells [Minion] [Item] for an object such as an armour piece or something you’d find in your bag [Mount]

A gallery of all icon images (NOTE: this is somewhat out of date) can be found at: https://imgur.com/a/Jufo0 Feel free to use them at your discretion!

57 | EORZEANHQ

FLOURISHES It’s possible to include more than one command in one macro so that you could, for example, have a character go through several different emotes, or emote something and then say a phrase. It’s a big subject, and this is just an introduction, so it’s best to just play with the macro system and see what you can come up with. A couple of extra things that could be useful are: <t> is a placeholder for your current target, and you can use it in your custom emote to include a

specific, nearby person’s name in your custom emote. For example: /emote gives <t> a piercing death glare. When targeting Magnai, this would become: Sadu Heavensflame gives Magnai a piercing death glare.

/wait inserts a pause between commands. The default is one second, but this can be increased

by adding a number. Eg. /wait <1>. This is especially useful when you include multiple commands in a single macro but don’t want them all to happen at the same time. Eg. if you included multiple animations you would want to /wait to give each animation time to run before starting the next. Creating custom macros is very much a business of trial and error. I always find my macros need a bit of tweaking before I’m completely satisfied with them. You will often find that a macro doesn’t do what you thought it would the first or even second time, but you can’t break anything by typing in the wrong emote commands so it’s best to just play around and experiment until you find something that works. One final thing to note; while these kind of macros can be a lot of fun, it’s very easy to overuse them to the point where they become annoying. If you have a warcry macroed to an attack in your standard rotation so it’s used every 20 seconds it will become old very fast. If you’ve played Sadu’s solo more than once you’ll know how incredibly annoying it is to hear her cry “In death do our souls sing!” over and over. My Sadu saves it for the end boss of a dungeon or the raid as a rallying cry as she goes into battle. All this barely scratches the surface of all the things that can be done. But it will help you get started adding a little fun and individuality to emotes. Further information on all the other things you can do with macros can be found on various FFXIV fan sites across the internet. Google is your friend. CUSTOM MACROS | 58

FAN ARTIST Q&A WRI TTEN BY A M A R A Tell us a bit about yourself! Hello! I’m Tomo and I’m 18 years old! I live in the PNW and love to cosplay and do art!

How did you first start your first FFXIV related art piece? My first FFXIV pieces were a whole bunch of doodles of Alphinaud HAHA He’s still the one character I doodle the most as well as my FFXIV character Mango!

Do you draw artwork related to any other games or media? I do a lot of Fire Emblem doodles as well as a lot of my own characters. I want to be a character designer, so I practice a lot of designing! I’ve also been doing a bit of persona art recently!

Do you have any formal training in artwork or in visual media? Nope! I took a few art classes in high school but they were mainly basics and realism haha, I’d like to one day though!

How would you describe your visual style? Mmm I’d definitely say a lot of fantasy - I like the soft colors and thin lines, things that look like they have a lot of life in it haha

What inspires and motivates you? Music is a big one, especially Square Enix music, haha. I like nature a lot, so I like to draw flowers and plants and seeing really weird plants is inspiring for some reason!

Absolutely characters haha! Like I said, I like to design costumes and characters so im not too fond of drawing cars or landscapes, definitely just characters!

Does your artwork have deeper meaning? I’d like to say yes, but most of my art is doodles or small comics or designs so I’m not sure I’d say yes haha, although I’d like to start doing more art with deeper meaning soon!

Yoshitaka Alamo is the reason I became an artist when I was young so absolutely him haha, also the artist for the series D. Gray Man, Katsura Hoshino! It will always be one of my favorite series and her art is always very inspiring to me.

Which is your favourite piece you have created so far? I love this one a lot !! It’s a little bit old now but it was one of the first actual pieces I did of my FFXIV character, Mango, and this is when I started creating more of a story for her and her retainers, Yasu and Jivelle.

Do have any future art projects planned? Absolutely! I have a few longer FFXIV comics I have in the works and I’d like to make a FFXIV street fashion zine relatively soon!

What has your experience with commissions been like? Any horror stories? Oohh I do a LOT of commissions haha, it’s my main job currently! I mostly get people commissioning their FFXIV characters which is a lot of fun to do! As for horror stories, hmm. I don’t think I’ve really had any super bad experiences? Thankfully my commissioners are always very kind to me! Some people get a bit overwhelming but that’s about it!

How are you finding the latest expansion, and what is your favourite aspects of it? Oh gosh I changed my home point from Ishgard to the Crystarium so that says a lot HAHA. I absolutely love it! The story is definitely my aesthetic and the characters are all so well written! The music is beautiful and the final dungeon is the only one to ever make me almost cry with how cinematic it was aahh. So I really don’t think I can’t choose just one thing!

Describe your ideal weekend in five words! FFXIV, Chocolate, Friends, Music, Blanket!

Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. I’m sure our fans will love your works as much as we do, and we can’t wait to see your future projects! If you are an artist who is also passionate about FFXIV community, and would love to be featured in future EHQ issues--please hit us up on discord!

BEGINNER SCHOOL OF DANCE Are you new to the Dancer class in Shadowbringers? Do you feel like you have two left feet? Lexicona’s Beginner School of Dance is here to set you straight! We’ll be going over the Dancer class, covering the basics of the abilities, the core rotation, and other important details, so, in the words of YoshiP, “Please look forward to it!” Dancers are elegant and beautiful, but don't let their flowing, rhythmic choreography fool you--they are deadly damage dealers. Highly effective when paired with a strong dance partner, the dancer works in synergy with others, invigorating teammates by fighting in tandem. It’s worth noting that the first quest for dancer gives a great introduction to using your abilities properly and in which situations, so if you get overwhelmed before you even start the quest, don’t worry! I will walk you through that as well.

SINGLE TARGET ROTATION: Cascade >>> Reverse Cascade [If it proceed] >>> Fountain >>> Fountainfall [If it proceed]

AOE ROTATION: Windmill >>> Rising Windmill [If it proceed] >>> Bladeshower >>> Bloodshower [If it proceed]

ABILITIES | TRAITS Fourfold Fantasy: You have a 50% chance of gaining a Fourfold Feather upon landing Reverse Cascade, Fountainfall, Rising Windmill, and Bloodshower. These feathers are displayed in your Fan Gauge, part of your core rotation Action Damage/Action Damage II: base action damage increase, unimportant towards rotation Enhanced En Avant I/II: Increases the number of stacks for your En Avant, ultimately useless towards your rotation and only useful during fights Esprit: Grants Esprit to self and nearby party members upon successfully executing Standard Finish or Technical Finish. The Esprit Gauge will accumulate when you or party members under the effect of Esprit land a weapon skill or cast a spell. Inherently a part of your kit, don’t have to pay much mind to it. Should be noted that Esprit does not always accumulate. It has an unconfirmed chance of doing so.

SCHOOL OF DANCE | 66

ABILITIES | JOB ACTIONS Closed Position: Select a party member or friendly duty npc to be your dance partner. This character gains damage buffs depending on your abilities, and synergizes with other abilities. Core to your kit, as Dancer is mostly about buffing your allies. Cast again to turn off the effect. Will go over usage in another section Standard Step: Begin dancing, granting yourself Standard Step. Action changes to Standard Finish while dancing. Only Standard Finish, En Avant, step actions, and role actions can be performed while dancing. Critical to job, cast on cooldown or as necessary for burst windows. Standard Finish: Deal damage to nearby enemies, with a dropoff down to 75% of the damage after the first enemy. Also provide the Standard Finish and Esprit buff to you and your dancer partner. Cannot be used during Technical Step Technical Step: Begin dancing, granting yourself Technical Step. Action changes to Technical Finish while dancing. Only Technical Finish, En Avant, step actions, and role actions can be performed while dancing. Critical to job, cast on cooldown with Devilment, unless it needs to be saved for a burn window. Cannot be used during Standard Step. Technical Finish: Deal heavy damage to nearby enemies, with a dropoff down to 75% of the damage after the first enemy. Also provide the Technical Finish and Esprit buff to you and all nearby allies. Devilment: Increases critical hit rate and direct hit rate by 20% to you and your Dance Partner. Important burst CD, cast after technical step and keep them aligned, save for burn window if necessary for fight. Cascade: Delivers an attack, has a 50% chance of triggering Flourishing Cascade. Changes to Emboite when dancing. Starting ability to your single target rotation. Fountain: Delivers an attack, combos from Cascade. If comboed, deals more damage and has a 50% chance of triggering Flourishing Fountain. Changes to Entrechat while dancing. Combo ability for your rotation.

67 | EORZEANHQ

Reverse Cascade: Delivers an attack, consuming Flourishing Cascade, with a 50% chance of granting a Fourfold Feather. Changes to Jete while dancing. Ability to pay attention to for procs. Fountainfall: Delivers an attack, consuming Flourishing Fountain, with a 50% chance of granting a Fourfold Feather. Changes to Pirouette while dancing. Ability to pay attention to for procs. AoE abilities: The same as the last 4 except instead of single target, they’re a short AoE, centered on the player. In order, they are: Windmill, Bladeshower, Rising Windmill, and Bloodshower. Use these AoE’s in the same way you would use the single target abilities. Fan Dance: Deliver an attack, consuming a Fourfold Feather and has a 50% chance upon landing to grant “Flourishing Fan Dance”. Core to single target rotation and burst windows Fan Dance II: Deliver an attack around you, consuming a Fourfold Feather and has a 50% chance upon landing to grant Flourishing Fan Dance. Core to aoe rotation and AoE burst windows Fan Dance III: Deliver an attack to your target and all nearby enemies, consuming Flourishing Fan Dance. Flourish: Gain all Flourishing proc effects that cannot be stacked. These are, Flourishing Cascade, Flourishing Fountain, Flourishing Windmill, Flourishing Bladeshower, and Flourishing Fan Dance. Saber Dance: Consumes 50 Esprit to deal damage to all enemies near and including your target. Strong ability, not directly core to rotation but should be used when necessary (will go into detail regarding usage and rotation later).

Improvisation: Grant Esprit for yourself based on nearby party members. Can only be used in combat. Also increases healing for all nearby party members including self by 10%. The effect is cancelled if you move or use an ability. Strong ability, similar to Samurai’s “Meditate”. Should use during sections where the boss is untargetable and there’s nothing else to do. En Avant: Quickly dash 10 yalms forward (based on direction, not movement such as strafing). Up to 3 stacks, depending on your current “Enhanced En Avant” level. Useful for movement, but useless at a core dps level. Curing Waltz: Restores HP for yourself and all immediately nearby party members (the range is VERY small). The effect also occurs for your Dance Partner. Useful for stack mechanics but not much else. Shield Samba: Reduce damage taken by all nearby allies including yourself by 10%. Cannot be stacked with Bards Troubadour, or Machinists Tactician. Useful for AoE attacks and mechanics, as well as stacks, so cast as necessary. Role Abilities: While role abilities are useful, they play little part in combat and when they do, it’s very niche and not useful towards base class mechanics, so they will be omitted from this guide.

ABILITIES | DANCE PARTNER Closed Position is the ability that places a Dance Partner buff on another party member. This section will serve to discuss the benefits or drawbacks of certain partners and classes. The buffs that can be transferred to allies are as follows: Standard Finish, Technical Finish, Esprit, and Devilment. Curing waltz, when used, will also be cast on the dance partner’s position, which allows you to get strong heals in a stack situation, or other similar situations. There is still some debate regarding which dancer abilities can be stacked. As for passive buffs, the Standard Finish passive buff can be stacked with another dancer, but not two on the same person. There are two Standard Finish buffs, one that goes on the caster, and one that goes on the partner. The caster and partner buff can be stacked, via two dancers using their partner buff on each other; however, if two dancers were to select the same partner, then they would only receive one Standard Finish buff. The buffs that don’t stack EVER are Technical Finish, any Esprit buff, and Devilment. This means that pairing with other dancers is very inefficient, due to the buff drop off. This also means that when playing with another dancer, it’s important for one to delay their Technical Step by 30 seconds so that one is not wasted. With that being said, the effectiveness of a dance partner depends on how quickly they cast their skills and use their abilities. The more abilities your dance partner uses, the more chances you have at getting Esprit. This makes Samurai, Monk, and Red Mage, ideal dance partners since they have innately reduced cast and recast times. However, when it comes to buffing the party, as Dancer should be doing, it’s better to use your Dance Partner buff on the person doing the highest dps.

DANCING As the name implies, the Dancer class focuses on a variety of dances and rhythm-related abilities. Akin to Bards in previous Final Fantasy games, Dancers often focus on buffing allies or hindering enemies. As such, we must needs be sure we're choosing dances to best support our team. Upon casting Standard Step or Technical Step, you’ll notice that your primary four single target rotation abilities will become dancing steps, corresponding with their ability colour. We covered the steps they're connected to earlier in this guide, but their descriptions can also be found in the "Actions & Traits" menu in-game. You’ll also notice a step gauge that changes to a certain order of abilities. Dancing is a mini-game of sorts. The Step Gauge will guide you through a series of dance steps in a specific order, then you recast the dance to finish, dealing damage and buffing allies. This gauge is a helpful resource, but if you can't spare it a glance while middance, your currently required step action will be highlighted. If you stumble and miss a step, don't despair! The show must go on, and you can finish out your dance as normal. However, for each misstep, you will take longer to finish your dance. If you choose to end your dance early to save your GCD’s, your dance will have a penalty to both the damage done, and the damage increase to you and anyone else affected by the ability. Practice makes perfect! Your hotbars should be arranged in such a way that your primary single target rotation is easily accessible. Also, your steps move very quickly. Each step causes about 1 second of the global cooldown before you can perform another action. This is around half the time of the normal global cooldown, so you'll want to make reading and performing your steps into second nature. This comes with practice and repetition, remember to cast your dances whenever they’re up!

SCHOOL OF DANCE | 68

ROTATION The Dancer rotation can seem confusing at first glance; one must first gain an understanding of procs in the rotation. Worry not, it becomes clearer with time and practice! Let's start with Cascade: Cascade has a 50% chance to grant Flourishing Cascade, along with being a combo ability for Fountain. Assuming you get all of your procs when you use Cascade, you will have to decide between Fountain and Reverse Cascade. In this case, you want to use Reverse Cascade. It has a higher potency than Fountain, and can grant a "Fourfold Feather" in your gauge. This choice is of minor importance in day-to-day play, but can make a significant impact in high-end duties. To go even further, it’s safe to say proc abilities should always be given priority over their corresponding basic rotation abilities. After Reverse Cascade, you want to use Fountain, and then Fountainfall. It’s a very simple rotation once you break it down. Next, let's look at Windmill: Windmill has a 50% chance to grant Flourishing Windmill, along with being a combo ability for Bladeshower. Similarly to Cascade, you have to make the decision between Flourishing Windmill and Bladeshower, and it would continue in the same manner for the same reasons.

FAN GAUGE Alongside your Step Gauge, Dancers have a secondary job gauge, the Fan Gauge. This gauge displays the number of Fourfold Feathers available for use, as well as your current Esprit. Fourfold Feathers are charges to use Fan Dance and Fan Dance II, and Esprit is used to use Saber Dance. Until you unlock Saber Dance and Esprit, your GCDs will feel a bit empty. When you do learn them, new possibilities for increased damage unfold. When not in your burst window, manage your Esprit resource by saving at least 50, so that you can guarantee at least one immediate Saber Dance during the window. When you get closer to 80 or 90 Esprit, you should use a Saber Dance ASAP so that you don’t lose any possible Esprit. This is because how much Esprit you gain can be directly tied to your amount of Saber Dances and thus DPS. If you let your Esprit cap, then your DPS can potentially suffer. Fourfold Feathers are a resource to be managed, similar to Esprit. As you use your procced abilities, you’ll gain Fourfold Feathers. Fourfold Feathers can be used by the abilities Fan Dance and Fan Dance II. Both of these abilities have the chance to grant you Flourishing Fan Dance which can be consumed by Fan Dance III. You will want to save at least two Fourfold Feathers for your burst phase. This is a safe choice, but if you want to play it risky, you can save three instead. Just keep in mind that if they fill then you should use them

69 | EORZEANHQ

immediately. Any additional feathers should be woven into your rotation between global cooldowns; Fourfold Feathers are off the global cooldown, which means that you can fit them in between abilities that do trigger the global cooldown for maximum damage output. There are two criteria that need to be filled when you use a feather: the first being that you are above your desired threshold, and the second being that you cannot currently have Fan Dance III available. Similar to other Flourish buffs, if you use a feather when you already have Flourishing Fan Dance, then the new feather could overwrite the buff, and thus cause you to lose out on dps. It can be challenging to balance all these resources while learning a new class, so do not worry too much! Focus your energy on learning your rotation, and all else will come with time!

OPENER Dancers' opener begins before the boss is pulled. Start by using your Standard Step at 15 seconds left on the pull timer (this is called prepulling). During this time, make sure to finish the dance’s steps. When the countdown finishes, use your Standard Finish, and then weave Flourish before using Technical Step. Next comes Technical Finish, weaving Devilment immediately after and then use Fountainfall. At this point you want to work on weaving your Fourfold Feathers as you use your Flourish procs. Utilize your procs as you get them, and be sure to use your Fan Dances whenever you can. Once all your procs are gone, start your single target rotation with Cascade, and continue to respond to procs accordingly. Keep in mind that you should be using Saber Dance whenever it’s up during your burst window, because it’s potency is much higher than your normal abilities. Once you use your procs, or soon before, Standard Step should be back up. Use it on cooldown. This only exception is if there are more procs to use, and only in your opener. As long as you don’t misalign your rotation, you’re fine. This also applies to Flourish when it is available, so keep an eye on these abilities and their cooldowns. As you manage your resources within your rotation, your Technical Step and Devilment will come back up. Once this happens, it should be after a Standard Step if you’re perfectly managing it. One important piece of information to note. Your opener differs from your burst phase due to the timing of your Flourish. In your opener, you use Flourish before Technical Step because not doing so would lead to a very awkward set of abilities after Technical Finish, and likely lead you to clipping your global cooldown. In all of our burst windows afterwards, this is where Saber Dance comes in handy. We simply move the Flourish from before Technical Step, to after our first global cooldown ability post-Technical Finish. When we have the available Saber Dance, we have the freedom to do this instead of what the opener does.

To summarize: Your opener goes Standard Step >>> Flourish >>> Technical Step >>> Devilment >>> Procs Your normal burst phase will be Standard Step >>> Technical Step >>> Devilment >>> Saber Dance >>> Flourish >>> Procs LEVEL 80 TRIAL OPENER: Stand. Step >>> Flourish >>>Tech. Step >>> Devilment >>> Saber Dance/Any Procs from Flourish (prioritize Saber Dance, use Fan Dance Procs and Feathers in between GCD’s) >>> Standard Step [If latest once the tech step buff goes away]

CONCLUSION I hope this guide helped everyone who was struggling on learning the Dancer class! Dancer is a beautiful and fun class to both play and watch, but even after some practice, it’s clear that, while Dancer is complicated, it can be compared to a real Improvised Dance. You have to go with the flow and be quick on your feet to make sure you do your best. For me, Dancer is the most fun I've had with a class, due to it’s built-in mini-games being core to their kit. Thank you everyone for reading this guide, and I wish you all the best of luck on the battlefield!

To the Dungeons! By Sheria Barnes Good day and an enthusiastic “Lali-ho” my friends! Today we will be talking about all of the new leveling dungeons in Shadowbringers. Isn’t that amazing? I’m sure that most of you did them already, but I hope you all enjoyed the music and the amazing story Patch 5.0 has to offer! Before we talk about the dungeons, let’s have a look at the reworked tanks and DPS jobs.

71 | EORZEANHQ

To THE DUNGEONS | 72

Paladin has ascended to a whole new tier in dungeons! Before Shadowbringers, Paladin was really weak in dungeons. It was really only useful to increase the healer’s DPS by using Hallowed Ground. But with the new-and-improved 5.0 Paladin, there are a lot of new flashy AoE tools ripe for the taking! Once you hit 72 you can use Requiscat to spam Holy Circle, which radiates holy light and damages every dark being around you. On top of that, once you get to level 80 you can summon a huge blade from the earth which totally obliterates everything inside its radius. All in all, Paladin is really strong in dungeons now, but still severely lacks self-sustaining abilities [unless you use Clemency on yourself which would be a DPS loss...].

Paladin 73 | EORZEANHQ

Warrior The Warrior’s self-sustainability has now been destroyed in the lower levels. Until you hit 76, you don’t really have much to keep yourself alive with alone. However, once you get Nascent Flash at 76 you don’t need a Healer anymore! “What is Nascent Flash” you ask? Nascent Flash is Bloodbath’s little brother. For 6 seconds you heal yourself and a designated partner for all damage you deal to your target(s). The only downside on this skill is you NEED a targetable player (or chocobo) in your party to be able to execute Nascent Flash.

SIMPLY SAID: 1) Pull everything 2) Pop Nascent Flash 3) Use Infuriate 4) Use Chaotic Cyclone 5) Restore 1 Billion HP In all seriousness, Warrior’s AoE DPS is really good; especially when you hit level 72 and unlock Chaotic Cyclone. So don’t be afraid to pull all the things! Simply use your cooldowns with Nascent Flash, and cyclone your way through the dungeons.

To THE DUNGEONS | 74

Gunbreaker Gunbreaker is a pretty fun tank to play in dungeons, simply because it doesn’t feel like a tank at all. It’s a very aggressive tank, almost like Warrior, but it definitely doesn’t stand a chance against this older counterpart when it comes to selfsustainability. Its damage output is pretty solid and it’s barrel-y under Warrior’s level. The Gunbreaker has a ton of mitigation skills on top of--I dare say--the most fun invulnerability skill. Fun? you ask. Did you ever try to pull everything you can and then just randomly press Superbolide while you’re HP is still full? You will see the panic Lustrates and Tetras flying towards you like a horde of sin eaters. Jokes aside, Gunbreaker is fun to play in dungeons and does pretty good damage.

75 | EORZEANHQ

Oh my dear, my sweet love, what have they done to you‌ I am very sad to inform you, that Dark Knight is now officially the worst tank in dungeons when it comes to dealing AoE damage [and this is supposed to be the Dark Knight expansion folks]. The one big change about Dark Knight is, you can’t spam Abyssal Drain anymore to heal yourself. Secondly, your Blood Weapon does not work like it used to. Using Quietus on 10 enemies now only gives you MP back for 1 enemy. On the other hand, you get free usage of Quietus and Bloodspiller for 10 seconds through Delirium. Be sure to make use of your Blackest Night; for it gives you a free Flood of Darkness/Flood of Shadow when it breaks. Compared to the other 3 Tanks, Dark Knight is seemingly lacking in damage, which makes it the least favourite tank to run your fresh level 80 dungeons with, sorry Dark Knight mains.

Onto the next topic, the new dungeons! I will not tell you how to pull, how many adds you should pull, or which cooldowns you should use in order. All I can tell you is: everything is healable if you, the tank, use your cooldowns to/and avoid unnecessary damage. So don’t be afraid to pull as much as you can! Let’s start with Holminster Switch, unlocked at 71. There’s nothing special with the adds before every boss, so we will just dive right into them.

BOSS #1: FORGIVEN DISSONANCE The Boss starts with Path of Light, a heavy raid wide AoE attack, followed by Brazen Bull. 4 Orbs will spawn in a set pattern, and explode in a plus shape line AoE. Dodge as necessary and avoid the follow up cast called Thumbscrew. Another set of orbs will spawn and the boss will turn towards the middle of the arena to cast a cone AoE called Wooden Horse. Just dodge all the AoE indicators and you’re good to go. Shortly after the AoE bamboozle, Forgiven Dissonance will cast Pillory, a heavy tank buster [mitigate and heal if necessary]. At this point of the fight, you’ve seen it all. The mechanics will just repeat with various changes in the orb patterns. BOSS #2: TESLEEN, THE FORGIVEN Tesleen (may her soul rest in peace) will start the fight with a tank buster called The Tickler, same as Pillory, mitigate and heal if necessary, followed up by a raid wide AoE called Scold’s Bridle. Fevered Flagellation marks party members with a number, indicating who she will dash towards first, second,

and so on. The damage is not based on proximity, so each party member can hug the boss with everyone being on different cardinal directions; just don’t overlap. Exorcise will mark a player for someone to stack with. As soon as that AoE hits, move out of that area because the ground will now give you a bleeding debuff causing you to take damage over time. From this point everything is just a simple rinse and repeat. BOSS #3: LIGHTWARDEN 1 - PHILIA Starting with a raid wide AoE called Scavenger’s Daughter, followed by a tank buster called Headcrusher. Shortly after, the boss will cast Pendulum, the proximity damage is not super dangerous, but be sure to stay away from the middle [do not hug the tank if you are a DPS/healer].

with haste. During the chain, the boss will cast Aethersup. Do not step back to the front of the boss once the AoE indicator disappears! The attack lasts longer than you might expect, and getting hit by it gives you a vulnerability up debuff. Philia will then lift its left/right leg. Avoid this by simply moving to the other side to avoid the damage and vise versa. Stack up to eat Into the Light with your group and get ready to dance around the boss to avoid getting a fierce beating. You can either walk alongside its left or right flank; I recommend the right side because there is less to dodge than on the left. After one full rotation around the Arena, the mechanics will repeat until Philia is down.

Next up is Chain Down, a random player will get marked, fettered with chains, and will be unable to move or attack. If you are this targeted player, be sure not to run away from the boss, just give her a big hug so your group can easily free you from these shackles

DIVING INTO DOHN MHEG (LEVEL 73) BOSS #1: AENC THON, LORD OF THE WAY TOO LONG NAME Aenc will start by hitting the tank with Candy Cane, and dropping AoE puddles under the party. Dodge as necessary. Laughing Leap will either target the ground of the arena or mark someone with a stack marker. Do mechanics as necessary, and get ready to dodge Landsblood. The ground will start to acquire little puddles with every slam Aenc gives it. The first slam spawns the first set of puddles, the second slam spawns another set of puddles, all while upgrading the first set into bubbling puddles. The third slam will cause the bubbling puddles to explode, and the second set to start bubbling. This will repeat a few times until all the puddles disappear. BOSS #2: GRIAULE Swinge targets a random player with a large frontal cone; avoid as necessary. Griaule will move into the middle and cast Fodder, spawning 5 saplings around the arena tethering to them. Intercept as many tethers as you can to avoid buffing Griaule. One tether will always go

78 | EORZEANHQ

through, and if Griaule reaches 5 Stacks she will enrage. Her Tiiimbeeeer will wipe the party. Coiling Ivy will root a player into place, but can be destroyed in the blink of an eye. BOSS #3: AENC THON Aenc will once again start with a tank buster and raid wide AoE, though this time the AoE gives Bleeding to everyone. Luckily this can be cured with Esuna. Imp Choir is a gaze attack that can be avoided by looking away. Do not get hit, or you’ll get imp’d. Immediately after, Aenc will cast Toad Choir on a random player, cleaving everyone in front of him and turning them into, well, toads. Funambulist’s Fantasia will divide the rooms into 2 different segments connected by a small bridge. Balance your way to the other side and move inside Aenc’s hitbox to be able to attack him, stopping him from finishing his cast. Once the cast is interrupted, Aenc will turn into a beautiful tentacle monster. Simply dodge all the AoE’s he does in this form until he turns back to his normal form. From here on everything repeats, simply dodge the Choirs and AoE attacks and you will in no time be back to the surface.

DID YOU KNOW? With Arms Length reworked, it now serves as a defensive cooldown in an unusual way. Arms Length now creates a varrier around you that nullifies knockback and slows every enemy who hits your barrier by 20%. This basically means (almost) everything that attacks you will be slowed for 15 seconds, making their auto attacks and casts longer /cheer..So please make use of your new free defensive CD!

ONTO THE INDIANA JONES DUNGEON (LEVEL 75) BOSS #1: LOZATL We’ve now equipped our explorer hats and find ourselves in the Indiana Jones dungeon, unlocked at Level 75! Like most bosses, Lozatl starts out with a tank buster called Stonefist followed by a target AoE and a raid wide AoE. Throughout the encounter, the statues near the exit will start glowing and explode half of the arena they are facing. This can be avoided by moving to the other side of the arena. Heat Up will indicate which side of the arena Lozatl is going to slam. Simply stay away from his steamy side. Later on you will have to deal with Heat Up and the statue. A nice thing to know for this combined mechanic is that Heat up and the Statue will always cover the whole arena, so if Heat Up spawns on the flank pointing east, the statue in the west will explode. Knowing this made it much more easier for me to quickly find the safe spot during this mechanic. BOSS #2: BATSQUATCH The usual, tank buster, raid wide AoE. Subsonics is a low damage raid wide AoE that spawns small puddle AoE’s and stalactites inside the arena. Once Batma—I mean Batsquatch—casts Soundwave, these stalactites will drop in a random direction, slamming down on the party, and giving them a vulnerability debuff. Mechanics simply repeat until the bat is squashed. BOSS #3: LIGHTWARDEN 3 - EROS You guessed it, tank buster incoming. Hound out of Heaven will tether a random DPS or healer, and deal a huge amount of damage to said player if they are too close to the boss. You can check by looking at the tether’s colour: once it turns purple you are safe. Hey, guess what, raid wide AoE! Viper Poison spreads some toxic vibes around the arena, and I don’t mean the Black Mage who is raging because his Ley Lines are now inaccessible—simply dodge, and don’t step into the puddles. Inhale will pull the players towards Eros and Heaving Breath will knock everyone away from the boss. Note that knockback immunity works on Heaving Breath, but not on Inhale. The last mechanic Eros has up his sleeve is Confession of Faith. Depending on whether you have a stack marker or player bound AoE markers, you either need to stack at the middle head, or spread around the side, close to the boss. There you have it, Eros out.

To THE DUNGEONS | 81

LET’S GO INTO MALIKAH’S WELL (LEVEL 77) BOSS #1: GREATER ARMADILLO

as the boss lands, run towards him to dodge the outer circle AoE. Lastly, 2 adds will spawn that are pretty weak and can be burst down fairly easy.

Surprise! Tank buster.

BOSS #2: AMPHIBIOUS TALOS

Multiple times during the encounter random AoE’s with falling rocks will appear; dodge as necessary. Head Toss targets a random player with a stack marker, then immediately after the stack, Armadillo will cast Right Round around himself—an AoE without a range indicator.

Sigh… tank buster. Followed by Wellbore, a really long cast that can be dodged late. Immediately after Wellbore, four waterspouts will appear; dodge these as well.

Shortly after, the Armadillo casts Flail Smash. Don’t stand in the middle, as the proximity damage is really high! As soon

82 | EORZEANHQ

High Pressure is a knockback that can be nullified with immunity. If you have no immunity on you at this moment, position yourself between the waterspouts to avoid excess damage. Swift Spill is cone AoE rotating around the entire arena in either a

clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. This is indicated by either blue or orange arrows at the bosses feet. To avoid unnecessary movement during Swift Spill, position yourself next to the cone AoE moving away from you, and move into the cone AoE once it rotates the first time. From this point on, the mechanics will repeat until the Talos bites the dust.

boss—and Breaking Wheel, a roomwide AoE with a safezone under the boss. Crystal Nail will spawn four nails that repeat. The next mechanic the boss will cast in a set pattern starting south and moving clockwise. Simply avoid these mechanics like you would if they originate from the boss. Everything is just a repeat until the Lightwarden is seen to its end.

BOSS #3: LIGHTWARDEN 4 - STORGE Tank bu—oh, no wait, there’s no tank buster in this fight, only some lovely AoE spam. The two main mechanics Storge will cast at random are Heretics Fork—a plus shape AoE blast originating from the

To THE DUNGEONS | 83

Let’s finish our climb, and grind!

MT. GULG (LEVEL 79) BOSS #1: FORGIVEN CRUELTY Tank buster, yay. Lumen Infinitum will target a random player with an invisible line AoE that can be avoided by stepping to the side. Throughout the encounter the boss will fly up and cast Typhoon Wing. You will see a set of three wind orbs spawn beneath him. These orbs will cleave in a cone shape outwards be sure to stand in the space between two of the orbs. Cyclone Wing is a raid wide AoE that needs to be healed up for. Be aware that your party may have a lot of vulnerability stacks at one point. The longer the fight goes on, the trickier the Typhoon Wing mechanic will get; since there will be more orbs spawning and reducing the amount of safe space you have. BOSS #2: FORGIVEN WHIMSY A little tip to make this fight easier to understand: the arena is split into nine platforms and so is the boss. Each tile on the boss represents one tile in the arena. Simply imagine if the boss would fall over towards you. The tiles matching are the tiles

84 | EORZEANHQ

interacting with each other. With that being said, there is not much to it! Simply be aware of the patterns the boss shapes into, and adjust to the safe spots to avoid getting hit. Judgement Day will spawn meteors that need to be soaked by one player to avoid raidwide damage. BOSS #3 FORGIVEN OBSCENITY The boss starts with a raidwide AoE attack called Orison Fortissimo, followed by a point blank AoE around the boss named Divine Diminuendo. After Vauthry blesses the boss, every Divine Diminuendo will have an extra circle AoE spawn shortly before the cast finishes. To avoid getting hit, simply stand on the edge of the AoE emerging from the boss. Conviction Marcato is a large line AoE coming from the front of boss, while each intercardinal will have a circle indicating an invisible line AoE that needs to be dodged as well. Penance Pianissimo will shrink the amount of space you have to a small circle. Stepping into the outer area will cause bleeding damage. Feather Marionette will spawn four clones in a set pattern, the last add to drop down is always the doss herself. Be sure to move towards

her to dodge the Divine Diminuendo on the edge to avoid overlapping AoE’s. As soon as the clones disappear, the boss will cast Solitaire Bing, spawning a line of orbs to the north. Shortly after, six discs will appear one per line and the orbs will start moving. As soon as an orb hits a disc, the line will explode dealing damage and giving you a vulnerability up debuff. This damage can be avoided by standing in a line that will explode last and moving into a line that already exploded shortly after. The final mechanic the boss will cast is Sacrament Sforzando, a huge cone tank buster. Be sure the boss never faces the group! And that’s it, now you have to lose your Innocence to progress through the main story.

A N ( UN) E ND ING P O O L O F POW ER MP is a common resource that everyone has and knows about. Often called “mana”, MP, meaning “Magic Points” or “Mana Points” has been a resource in almost every fantasy style game to date. Many classes in FF14 use mp, and so it’s important to make sure you aren’t using too much. That being said, the healer role uses a vast amount of MP, only being beaten by Dark Knight and Black Mage. With such an important resource being heavily used, it can be alarming for someone who’s new to healing, especially if they realize this issue upon seeing their MP bar empty. In this installment of Pulse of Life, we’ll be going over the concept of proper MP management, and how to prevent issues from arising in the future.

WRITTE N BY L EX I C O NA

THE BASICS With MP being such a universal topic and resource, there’s a lot to go over. But if that scares you, it shouldn’t; most of the information takes time to get used to and, until end game, you won’t be punished for if you haven’t fully grasped it. To start, let’s talk about one of a healers most important stats: Piety. Piety is only relevant to healers and is a stat that affects their MP regeneration. In other words, a healer’s available MP at any given moment is directly tied to how much Piety they have. Endgame gear has an assortment of different stats, and while piety will be on many healer items, you won’t be thinking about it much. To clarify, stats are something that are often ignored, besides maybe the best in slots stats. Things like Mind, Piety, Intelligence, etc. are all often not thought about too much. Gear has better stats? You’d most often equip it. The only time you should think about it is if you’re constantly running into MP issues. It’s good to give your MP some thought when it comes to Materia Melding. For reference: materia are items that you can attach to gear for a small price. They give you stat bonuses based on which types of materia you put in. Piety is an uncommon materia to put into gear, however the option does exist if you think you have MP issues. Another thing to make note of is MP costs. Naturally, all abilities have some sort of cost, whether it be a resource such as MP, a cooldown timer, or often both. In the same way that tanks need to use cooldowns to make sure their health stays up, healers have to pay a good deal of attention to their MP bar, lest they run out mid-trial. So keep in mind: every ability you cast will take enough MP that you’ll run out if you aren’t paying attention.

PULSE OF LIFE | 87

ABILITIES Lucid Dreaming is a role ability that all casters get, both DPS and healers, that has the additional effect of restoring MP with a potency of 50 for 21 seconds, which totals to 4200 MP. At first the numbers don’t seem like much, but the total is a lot, because of how often it ticks. This means you should be using it nearly on cooldown unless you’re nearly full. Another good example would be White Mage’s Assize, which deals damage to all nearby enemies, heals all nearby allies, and restores MP. You’ll want to treat this one differently, in that you need to take it by situation, however, the MP restoration is a very beneficial side-effect. More often than not, Assize is used for healing a whole party and should rarely be used for MP restoration, but it’s still an option if you happen to need it. For a class like scholar, something like Deployment Tactics would be super good, because it allows you to use Adloquium as an AoE rather than single target. With Adloquium’s less mp cost and nearly twice as much healing than Succor, Deployment Tactics is a pretty MP efficient ability to use, along with any of the Aetherflow abilities. Other abilities you’ll want to pay attention to are those that reduce MP costs, for example White Mage’s Thin Air. This is a great tool for a White Mage, as it reduces MP costs by 100% for 12 seconds. For maximum MP efficiency, you’ll want to use this with Presence of Mind, which decreases cast time and recast time whenever you need to heal quickly, you’re in a burn phase, or you have a free cooldown and don’t want them to sit off cooldown for too long. This way you get the most value out of your Thin Air as possible. For Astrologian, their cost reduction is in Lightspeed, which reduces all MP costs by 50% and reduces cast times by 2.5 for 15 seconds. Scholar also has a new ability called Recitation that lets them cast one of four abilities without consuming any resource, while guaranteeing critical healing. So you may find yourself asking, “Which healing ability do I use?” Well, as discussed in TMP’s January 2019 issue, which discusses the importance of dealing as much dps as possible while keeping your party healthy, the answer is your stronger heals unless you’re low on MP, then you should be using your basic abilities. For reference, those abilities are as follows: White Mage: Cure, Cure II Astrologian: Benefic, Benefic II Scholar: Physick, Adloquium Scholar is a unique class where they don’t have many MP issues. This allows them to use Adloquium instead of Physick while saving their Aetherflow stacks and Faerie Gauge to do most of their restorative healing. While this information does hold up most of the time, it is most applicable in endgame, expert content, where you want to get the most bang for your buck from your spells and any time spent standing around is wasted dps. However, it’s a bit inefficient to focus on this if you are a beginner or are trying to better understand your abilities and role. 88 | EORZEANHQ

FREECURE AND ENHANCED BENEFIC Let’s go back to square 1. White mage has a trait known as Freecure. Every time you cast Cure you have a 20% chance of triggering Freecure, which makes your next Cure II cost 0 MP. From an expert standpoint, you can completely ignore Freecure, as it should rarely ever pop up, since cure is only used when you’re low on MP, but from an MP efficiency standpoint, you should be seeing this pop up quite a bit more. As with Astrologian, they have their own trait known as Enhanced Benefic. This one is a little different from Freecure as it focuses more on healing amount rather than MP. Enhanced Benefic gives Benefic a 15% chance to ensure that the next Benefic II is a guaranteed critical heal. While this doesn’t directly affect your MP usage, healing more with Benefic II means you don’t need to heal as much with Benefic, and so means more MP efficiency since your heal is stronger. This effect is increased by your Critical Hit stat so it can be useful to pay attention to that as well. Looking at numbers, Cure has a potency of 450 and a cost of 400 MP. Cure II has a potency of 700 for a cost of 1000 MP. This means that Cure II is less efficient in MP cost; while the cost of Cure II is 2.5x that of Cure, the potency is significantly less than double that of Cure, ~1.56 times Cure’s potency. For Astrologian, this disparity isn’t as bad, with the MP cost of Benefic II being only 2.25x that of Benefic while the potencies are the same as Cure and Cure II. This means that you’re getting less bang for your buck when you cast Cure II or Benefic II. So, while Cure II and Benefic II do open more avenues for you to be using

damage spells, casting a simple Cure and Benefic is much more efficient for MP management. Remember: Your job is to heal, and running out of MP prevents that. When you are comfortable and confident with your healing, you can focus on dealing more and more dps to enemies, but until then you should focus on managing your MP properly and keeping your party on enough health to stay alive.

LILIES AND AETHERFLOW Scholar has the ability Aetherflow which gives them three Aetherflow stacks that can each be used on 5 different healing abilities. Using the ability itself restores 10% of the users MP, and provides stacks to be used on certain abilities. This means that if you’re using your stacks in an optimal manner, you get to restore 10% of your MP every 60 seconds, and also, if you’re using these abilities, they don’t cost MP as it is, so you’re ultimately saving a ton of MP. The Aetherflow abilities are as follows: Sacred Soil, Lustrate, Indomitability, Energy Drain and Excogitation. These abilities provide single target damage, both single target and AoE healing, and damage reduction. Spellweaving these, that is, using them in between the global cooldown of instant abilities, is imperative to proper Aetherflow management, and thus, MP management. People who have this mastered seldom have MP issues. White Mage’s resource, besides MP, is their Lilies, which can be seen in their Lily gauge. Similar to Scholar’s Aetherflow, Lillies are a resource that automatically generate up to three times, and can be used on particular abilities for healing. While White Mage doesn’t have as many options as Scholar, they have other gimmicks on the Lilies. Their Lilies are directly tied to the three Afflatus abilities: Afflatus Solace, Afflatus Rapture, and Afflatus Misery. These abilities heal a single target, heal an AoE, and deal damage to the target enemy and all nearby enemies, respectively. It’s a very simple system, but it’s also extremely powerful in its own right. You gain one Lily every 30 seconds, which means every 30 seconds you get the ability to use a free instant Cure II, or Medica. This may not seem powerful but every time you cast one, it keeps track, and once you’ve casted 3, you gain access to Afflatus Misery. While this dps isn’t important to the MP section, what matters is making sure you never cap out on lilies, or else it equates to wasted MP.

PULSE OF LIFE | 89

MISCELLANEOUS ABILITIES Each class has their own set of miscellaneous abilities to choose from that help them heal in a more efficient manner. I’ll be giving a brief description of the types of things each class has to offer. Scholar has some very good tools at their disposal. For example, they can use Dissipation to gain 3 stacks of Aetherflow and increase their healing potency by 20%, but at the cost of their Faerie. This is very strong as it allows for high potency heals along with the use of the Aetherflow abilities. Scholar has the ability to use Fae Union which spends their faerie gauge to heal a player over an extended period of time. Also, as of 5.0, Scholar has gained the ability to use their pets abilities without needing to use the pet hotbar. In fact, they are now scholar abilities instead of Faerie abilities. These can be used for efficient healing as well, whether it be an AoE regen or a healing potency buff. White Mages miscellaneous abilities are few and far between. Some are good for really scary moments, such as Benediction or Tetragrammaton, while others simply help you heal AoE, like Plenary Indulgence. One special ability to note is Cure III. Cure III is an AoE heal with a small area around the target, and does more healing than any other AoE heal, at the cost of range. This makes Cure III the best heal that white mage can use for stacking mechanics, and especially for MP efficiency. Otherwise, White Mage has a lot of oGCD’s, so making sure you properly weave is important. Weaving during the Afflatus abilities is also useful but otherwise, they don’t have many oGCDs. Astrologian doesn’t have many abilities towards directly conserving MP, but they do have things they can do to help mitigate any loss. For example, using Earthly Star early enough so that it gains the effect of Giant Dominance instead of Earthly Dominance. This increases the overall effect of the heal and also happens to deal more damage to enemies. Celestial Opposition is another good ability, comparable to Afflatus Rapture, in that it is an instant AoE heal, and it also takes the effect of your current sect. Horoscope is another cool ability that Astrologian has. You can place a buff on all nearby allies, and cast it again to heal everyone with the buff. If people with the buff receive a heal from Helios or Aspected Helios, then the heal from horoscope is changed to Horoscope Helios which has an increased buff duration and a stronger heal. Lastly, we have Neutral Sect. Neutral Sect is Astrologians big healing cooldown. It increases their healing potency by 20% and their heals receive both of the effects of their sects.

CONCLUSION/WRAP UP MP is an extremely important resource for the healer role. MP is our fuel to make sure we can do our job, and while there are ways to avoid having to worry about it, it requires focus on spellweaving your oGCD’s which some people may not be used to. Each Job has different levels of MP issues right now: 1. Scholar’s MP is pretty stable, with their Aetherflow allowing for very regular MP restoration as long as it’s used on CD (efficiently using your stacks of course). 2. White Mages can have a little trouble with MP, if they’re not using their Lily and MP abilities at good times, or maybe not paying enough attention to the group. 3. Astrologians overall have the most MP issues. On top of Astrologian not being that strong as it is, their MP restoration is minimal at best, and their miscellaneous abilities aren’t enough to cover for that. With that being said, it’s easy to see the abilities necessary to properly manage MP, or at least how the different healer jobs line up, with Scholar being the easiest, White Mage being the second easiest/hardest, and Astrologian being the hardest. One last piece of business though. Always remember: Yes, being a healer means that you’re the one who keeps people alive, but it isn’t always easy. People make mistakes; sometimes tanks pull too much or don’t do a proper rotation. Mistakes happen and that’s okay! If you run out of MP, learn from the experience. It’s all about learning and making yourself a better healer than before. In that case, thank you everyone for reading this month edition of Pulse of Life, I’ll see you all next time!

CRAFTING CORNER GETTING STARTED Your adventure through the Shadowbringers expansion might have lead you to the Crystalline Mean, the center of crafting and gathering in the Crystarium. Here, Disciples of the Hand and Land can ply their trades for the betterment of all citizens of the First while honing their skills! Here are a few tips and tricks to clear your way to 80! First thing to note is that all the new nodes or crafting recipes are much harder at level 70. This is because of a hidden level curve. Once you hit level 71 or 72 it will be much easier to craft or gather! To help make this jump we’ll go over four highly effective methods of leveling: Levequests, Custom Deliveries, Grand Company Turn-ins, and the Crystarium Facets of Crafting and Gathering.

LEVES Levequests are repeatable quests you can use for massive experience gain! These are unlocked at level 70 (Disciple of the Hand or Disciple of the Land) in the Crystarium (X:9.7 Y:9.0) from the NPC Eirikur. Once you have unlocked leves with Eirikur you can accept levequests for all DoL or DoH level 70 and up! For crafters, they involve turning in the required item from the levequest and if you turn in an HQ version you get double the rewards! Levequests are the fastest and most efficient method of leveling, time-wise, but have a limited number of allowances! Gatherers can accept missions to venture afield into the exciting new zones of the First to gather requested materials within a time limit. The locations of gathering levequests are denoted by green circles on your map. While inside the circle, click the initiate button in your quest journal to start the levequest. Though levequests are the fastest way to level for both DoL and DoH, I would recommend prioritizing your levequests for craft-

ing.Your gatherers have other great ways to level and you only get twelve leve allowances every twenty four hours! You can hold up to 100 leve allowances.

CUSTOM DELIVERIES These are weekly collectable turn-ins that you unlocked in Stormblood. There are four different NPCs that love to put you to work Zhloe Aliapoh (Ildyshire), M’naago (Rhalgar’s Reach), Kurenai (Tamamizu), and Adkiragh (Ildyshire). Each NPC will accept a maximum of 6 collectibles a week, but overall you are only allowed a maximum of 12 custom deliveries each week, so choose wisely! Check through all of them and gauge which will give the most experience and scrips (you can go to your timer menu to compare and check for bonuses!)! Doing these each week will net you one to one and a half levels on whatever class you wish to turn them in on.

GRAND COMPANY TURN-INS Your Grand Company needs you! Each day at 4pm Eastern Time the Personnel Officer at your Grand Company headquarters will have a new list of much-needed supplies and provisioning missions. Simply open up your timer menu (Ctrl+U or Duty tab to Timers) to view the requested items. For each DoL or DoH class you have, your Grand Company will request an item procured or crafted by that class. If the item has a star next to it, double experience will be rewarded.

HQ MATTERS You receive double experience if you turn in a high-quality item and so if you see a requested item with a star, be sure to supply an HQ item for quadruple exp! Once you have collected/ crafted/purchased the items on the list you can go to your GC (Personnel Officer) and turn them in for GC seals and experience.

(TIP: Craft the collectables on your bestgeared class and turn it in on your lower-level classes, same goes for gatherers!)

QUIGG’S CRAFTING CORNER | 93

CRYSTARIUM FACETS OF CRAFTING AND GATHERING AT THE CRYSTALLINE MEAN These are the new form of class quests that are broken down into five facets: Facet of Forging - Blacksmith/Armourer/Goldsmith Facet of Crafting - Carpenter/Leatherworker/Weaver Facet of Nourishing - Alchemist/Culinarian Facet of Gathering - Miner/Botanist Facet of Fishing - Fisher

These can be found around the Crystarium (X:11.0 Y:8.8) The Facets replace the traditional class quests and reward MASSIVE EXPERIENCE! The first quest gives almost 10 million experience! You will notice a theme here... HQ matters! So make sure you gather or craft an HQ material! Completing the first quest of each Facet rewards 3 Revised Manuals of Survival (gathering) or Engineering (crafting)! The important thing to note is that the Facets are not repeatable. In addition, since most Facets have grouped a set of disciplines it is important to consider on which class you wish to receive the experience. For example, you could complete all six of the level 70 Facet of Crafting turn-ins on Carpenter, Weaver, or Leatherworker, or you could split up the experience between the three classes.

94 | EORZEANHQ

You will find the recipes for Facet crafts under the tab Special Recipes >>> sub-tab Class Quests >>> Crystarium Deliveries. (Tip: Unlock all the crafting Facets so you can see the list of materials you will need for each delivery. You have six turn-ins per quest!) For the gathering Facets, you must needs collect eighteen of each requested material, preferably high quality for maximum experience and scrips. Once you have spoken to the respective NPC you can pull up your gathering log (“B is the shortcut), search the name, click on the item, then click on the provided location. That will pull up a minimap; the turn-in materials can be found on normal nodes in the area.

THE GRIND Now that you know some good quick tips for leveling it is time for the grind! Ideally you should not have to grind experience overmuch if you have followed my tips for big experience payouts! Grinding in itself is pretty simple--craft items for experience and gather materials for experience! There are still several ways you can help speed up the process! My suggestion while you are grinding is mostly to gather and craft base materials, such as leather, lumber, ingots, nuggets and the ilk. They give great experience and will be useful in later crafts or making gil!

REVISED MANUALS

1. Use food, it is a 3% experience boost no matter what food you use! You can use a cheap throwaway food or for gathering something that increases your gathering is great, or for crafting using a food to boost your CP is recommended. You can buy some good cheap vendor food at (X:9.5 Y:14.6) in the Crystarium. 2. Utilize Free Company actions or Squadron manuals! Your FC can put up actions that boost gathering or crafting experience for twenty-four hours! (Grade 1 action is 5%, Grade 2 action is 10% and Grade 3 action is 20%) Since only two actions can be active at a time, you might not always have that option, but it is certainly worth asking. Another option requires sending your Grand Company squadron on missions! When they reach level 40, successfully completed squadron missions can reward you with Squadron Manuals of Survival or Engineering! These squadron manuals are equivalent to a Grade 3 Free Company Action, but only last two hours. Like company actions, you can have multiple different manuals active simultaneously. Squadron manuals do not stack with Free Company actions. 3. Utilize Commercial or Revised Manuals of Survival and Engineering! These are temporary experience buffs that you can get from quests or buy with yellow scrip. Commercial Manuals are from a previous expansion and are less effective than the current version, Revised Manuals (Commercial manuals give only 75% boost level 70 and above). If you have some leftover, they are definitely worth using up! The Revised Manuals are much stronger; at 300 Yellow Scrips apiece, they ought to be! These are great when you are about to sit down for an extended crafting or gathering session, and they do stack with your FC/Squadron buffs and food buff!

QUIGG’S CRAFTING CORNER | 95

GATHERING Your first foray into Shadowbringers will be a little difficult due to the limited number of nodes accessible at level 70. The available items are Night Pepper, Yellow Alumen, and Coarse Saltpeter for your regular nodes; for your unspoiled nodes you will have Raw Hematite (2am/pm Slot 8) and White Oak Branch (10am/pm Slot 3). You can and should quickly grind out a level by gathering these regular nodes, as the items will be useful for leveling your crafters. Gathering the Unspoiled Nodes as collectables is an efficient method of leveling as well, since you are rewarded with exp and Yellow Gatherers’ Scrips. Once you hit level 71 a ton of nodes open up and it will continue to get easier from there. At level 76 another set of nodes becomes available, and from there it is smooth sailing to level 80 (literally, in fact, as you ought to be able to fly by this point!). What are collectables? This is a common question that many new gatherers ask! Collectables are items which Rowena, of Rowena's House of Splendors, has deemed to be of extreme marketable value. As such, she requires crafters and gatherers like you to procure them for her. She sometimes will offer bonus rewards for different collectible items (starred items) and will update those bonuses on her daily list, visible on your timer menu (Crtl+U or Duty tab to Timers). How do I gather collectables you ask? Simply turn on Collector’s Glove at the node and follow a collectibles rotation! Appraisal actions increase the rarity of the collectable; your goal is to reach a collectability rating equal to or exceeding Rowena's requirement. Turn-ins that reward Yellow Gatherers' Scrips require at least 450 collectability while turn-ins that reward White Gatherers' Scrips require a minimum of 470 collectability rating. Exceeding the minimum requirement will grant bonus rewards in the form of additional scrips and bonus experience; however, sometimes quantity is more valuable than quality where leveling quickly is concerned. What should I buy with my Yellow Gatherers' Scrips? The first thing you should buy are Regional Folklore Trade Tokens; you need 40 of them per gathering class (Miner, Botanist, Fisher) to purchase your Tomes of Gathering Folklore - Norvrandt, also known as folklore books. Folklore books unlock legendary gathering nodes, from which can be gathered materials needed for high-end crafting recipes (which means you make bongo money from them!). These are your highest reward per turn-in nodes for white scrips! Each folklore token costs 100 yellow scrips so you will need 4,000 yellow scrips per folklore book! You can find the tokens at any Scrip Exchange NPC under Yellow Gatherers’ Scrip Exchange (Lv. 70 Items). I would suggest getting Gathering Materia VI and VII with any excess yellow scrips. Additionally, if you run out of survival manuals you can get more, and Hi-Cordials are always nice to speed up your leveling.

BONUS TIPS MOVEMENT SPEED BONUS The faster you can move the quicker it is to level, so get the mount speed bonus or flying as soon as you can! Keybind sprint and your mount to quickly travel between nodes. I use sprint when the nodes are next to each other and then get on my mount to run to the next pair. GATHERING A B C’S When gathering at regular nodes use the markers A, B, and C. You can place a world marker at each node pairing making it easier for you to see where to go next! CORDIALS These are potions that restore GP; they are great for giving you a little extra boost! You can buy normal quality Cordial from your Grand Company, craft your own high-quality Cordial, or buy Hi-Cordial with Yellow Gatherers’ Scrips. NODES Be sure to gather each item at least once! You get bonus experience the first time you gather an item. It might not be much but it all adds up! This is especially important if you have a miner or botanist retainer, because they can only go on ventures for items you have already gathered!

96 | EORZEANHQ

PRO-TIP Veteran Trade and Surface Slap make it so the last fish you caught isn’t caught again at that location! This can be great if you are trying to catch a certain fish or you don’t want to catch a fish that has no value!

FISHING Though one of the most (unreasonably) dreaded, fishing is actually the fastest leveling in the game! All you need to do is buy some bait from a local NPC, find a fishing hole and cast your line! Grand Company turn-ins and levequests can speed it up too; don't forget that HQ turn-ins double the exp! (While trying to catch these turn ins you will probably get a few levels in the process!) If you don’t enjoy traditional fishing, try spear fishing! It is very similar to Botanist and Miner: you go from node to node to catch fish, just watch for the bubbles! You can change the gig size of your spear to catch different fish!

If you are trying to catch HQ make sure to use Patience or Patience II; it makes it much easier! These increase your chance for HQ, but reduce your chance to Hook. To catch the fish use the skills Powerful Hookset or Precision Hookset instead of Hook. Powerful Hookset is used on Medium or Hard tugs (the rod bends significantly) and Precision Hookset is used on Light tugs (the rod moves very little).

When fishing make sure you make room in your inventory beforehand! I recommend clearing up at least 15 slots, as it will fill up fast! Keep the fish that are turn-ins and ones that say crafting material. (Keep the cool-looking fish to put in your aquarium later) Another good option with inventory management is Release! If you use this after catching an undesirable fish, you'll toss it back into the water. You will continue to throw back the exact type (and quality) of fish upon which you cast Release!

QUIGG’S CRAFTING CORNER | 97

CRAFTING It's easy to get excited with so many new recipes, so be sure to bear these tips in mind so you don't get overwhelmed! There is a level curve when you start at 70, the difficulty of recipes goes down quickly once you level once or twice. Grind out new materials, craft items, and do collectable turn-ins! Grinding out base materials is a pretty good option as it will give you a nice stash of materials to craft up whatever comes next! Collectables are also a good option because they reward Yellow Crafters' Scrips and a nice chunk of experience per turn-in! How do I do craft collectable? Don’t worry, it is really easy! Simply activate Collectable Synthesis and craft an item like you normally would! The collectability rating is the same as quality increases when the Collectable Synthesis buff is active. What should I buy with my Yellow Crafters' Scrips? If you still have lots of crafters to level, extra Revised Engineering Manuals will help speed up the process! Hoarding materia is also recommended for when you will need to overmeld your crafting gear. Master Recipes Books released with patch 5.05, each book cost 1200 yellow scrip!

BONUS TIPS FROM MERIDA If you want to maximize your experience try to get as much quality as possible! The more quality achieved the more experience gained! Leves Check the Market Board; oftentimes you can purchase your turn-ins for cheap since some are rewarded from quest equipment coffers. Be careful with quick synth The new mats have much higher requirements for quick synthing so you will fail a sizeable number of your crafts if you do! Meld your gear Any Materia VI or lower can be retrieved with 100% success rate! I have included a link to a melding build using the 71 HQ set which, with a little savvy, could take you to 80! For crafters CP is king while gatherers want to focus on the Gathering stat after you have around 650 GP. Challenge Logs are great weekly exp bonuses Be sure to do them every week, but take care to complete the challenge log on the class you are leveling. You don’t want to give millions of experience to a crafter already at 80! Make macros I have included two good macros that you can use throughout your leveling process for both 40 durability items and 80 durability. As the difficulties of the recipes increase you may need to upgrade some gear to hit the required stats. THE GEAR Now for the big question everyone asks, is my gear good enough? If you are already equipped with the Onishi, Yamashi, or yellow scrip level 70 gear sets, you can ride those babies all the way to 80. Make sure to meld the guaranteed slots with VI if you want to take your set to 80! If you have the NQ ilvl 290 set (vendor gear NPC in Rhalgar’s Reach and Kugane) you are going to have some issues. First thing to do is get to level 71, then you can buy a full set of crafting gear from the vendor at the Crystarium, craft your own set, or buy one off the market board. The level 71 HQ set is almost as good as the HQ Onishi set! At higher levels you might find that upgrading a few pieces will ease the road to 80. The best pieces to upgrade are body, legs, and tools. Once you are level 80 the crafted crafting set is always the best, as the HQ crafted set with a few melds is definitively better than the gear attained with White Crafters' Scrips. I will be making guides monthly about different topics! If you have a topic you want covered or have questions feel free to contact me via discord! DaQuigg#4725

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?

THAVNAIRIAN ONION GUIDE

THAVNAIRIAN ONION | 101

102 | EORZEANHQ

Every Eorzean dreams of owning their own home with a white picket fence, freshly swept Chocobo stables, and a garden. In fact, gardening has benefits beyond growing your own aetheric shards; as with many aspects of adventuring life, gardening harbours a deeply complex end-game just below the soil. There are many rare fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are only available through a careful and deliberate process called crossbreeding.

In a nutshell, crossbreeding crops in a garden is as simple as planting different seeds next to one another and carefully tending them (water your plants once a day!) until they possibly produce a new type of seed. A conscientious gardener knows that special crops require special soil. For crossbreeding, that soil is called Grade 3 Thanalan Topsoil, which helps to increase the chance that planting two different crops next to one another will yield a new seed.

One of the most sought-after gardening crops is the Thavnairian Onion. As adventurers, we all cherish our feathered companions and only want the best Chocobo feed for them. Look no further than this spicy, exotic onion, which allows Chocobo companions to gain levels past level 10. It is no wonder that Thavnairian Onions are so expensive; they are incredibly useful, and they are one of the most complex gardening crossbreeds in existence.

There are many different roads that lead to the Thavnairian Onion. We will detail only one of those ways in this guide, but at the end of this article, we will provide a link to the most comprehensive gardening resource that exists to Eorzea’s green-thumbed enthusiasts!

THAVNAIRIAN ONION | 103

Here’s what you’ll need to get started... Item Name Deluxe Garden Patch Grade 3 Thanalan Topsoil (24) Midland Cabbage Seeds (4) Krakka Root Seeds (4) Almond Seeds (4) Coerthan Tea Seeds (4)

How to Acquire Vendor: Housing Merchant Mining (Level 50* Unspoiled) -or- Vendor: Bertana Botany (Level 28 Hidden) Vendor: Material Supplier Botany (Level 40 Hidden) Botany (Level 53 Unspoiled)

Where to Acquire Any housing ward Western Thanalan -or- Idyllshire North Shroud Any housing ward Eastern LaNoscea Coerthas Western Highlands

While it is not necessary to cultivate more than one Deluxe Garden Patch at a time, it greatly reduces the amount of time between your first planting to finally harvesting your Thavnairian Onions. In addition, you can use fertilizers such as Fishmeal to reduce crop grow-time by a certain amount per each application, but you can only fertilize once per hour and there is a cap point where the plants stop receiving reduced grow-time benefits. When you plant your onions, it is highly recommended that you first acquire additional Midland Cabbage Seeds to plant next to your Thavnairian Onion Seeds so that when you ultimately harvest your prize, you should receive more Mimett Gourd Seeds or Midland Cabbage Seeds to facilitate your next planting. In Eorzean gardening jargon, this is called a “loop” -- (refer to the right-side descriptions & diagrams) Congratulations, now you can grow your own Thavnairian Onions for your Chocobo companion! Selling your excess on the Market Board is an excellent way to supplement your gil as well! In your first patch you will plant Midland Cabbages and Krakka Roots, alternating the seeds and of course only using Grade 3 Thanalan Topsoil. Tend these sweet sproutlings at least once per day (that’s every 24 hours in real-life time.) This should yield Mimett Gourd Seeds.

In your second patch (or in the same patch once the cabbages and krakka roots are harvested) you’ll alternate planting Almonds and Coerthan Tea Leaves. These should yield Pearl Roselle Seeds.

Your next planting will cross Mimett Gourd Seeds with Pearl Roselle Seeds. From this pairing, you should receive Thavnairian Onion Seeds!

Please introduce yourself, and tell us a bit about you. Hello! My name is Camille [aka Alter] . I am 15 years old and I have loved playing video games since I was 5 years old. I am French and often accompanied by my best friend: Link dBlink who helps me a lot in my daily life and especially in English. I currently reside on the Data Center Chaos, Spriggan server. Overall I like green, trees and I find the seabed (Abyss) and warships absolutely fascinating. I also listen to a lot of Japanese idols, it makes me happy.

How long have you been playing FFXIV? I started the game barely a year ago! I discovered it during the Paris Games Week, which is a very big video game convention in France and as indicated, in “Paris”. I was with two friends who absolutely wanted to go to a Final Fantasy booth to play. Unable to help but notice that the location for the players was elevated, I let my friends go there without me, because my shyness was a barrier. So I waited right outside the activity location. As it was the last day of the convention, the stands still had goodies and other gadgets to donate and people were going around the show to hand them out. I got the FFXIV demo CD. The game was really good for me, so I decided to embark on the adventure.

What is your favourite aspect of the game? Let’s just say there are two aspects that I highly appreciate. First of all, being immersed in another reality and having really free actions, that of a heroine in an era and an environment different from our real life. Then I would say the one of the classes: everyone has their role, thinking about strategies and implementing them with their group. I feel useful as a Tank and nothing is more satisfying than to kill a Boss on which you have spent so much time and effort!

What lead you to try /gpose and video game photography? Well, it’s pretty simple, I had to take a screenshot for a friend because we were having a great time at a party. I liked the tool even if I thought there were things missing. As I went along I met people talking about Reshade and ways to edit my character more easily, do more things that suited my preferences.

/GPOSE PROFILE | 142

Do you have any formal training in photography or any other visual media? I watched all Faye’s and Amara’s tutorials on youtube ;w;

What is your favourite subject matter to take photos of? I work by theme, so it can vary a lot. A simple glance at a kiwi can give me an idea or I’d start with that idea and move on to something else that will be the subject on which I’ll work.

What is your favourite image or collection you have created so far? For that, I would say the short-haired lady wearing the Ultima spear and the level 50 Dragoon armour. This session was located in Ishgard and I like it very much because these are my best friend’s favourite pictures: “Link” :)

How would you describe your visual style? I don’t know if it answers the question but coloured and refined. For example, I use mods but I don’t want to make my character incomprehensible.

143 | EORZEANHQ

/GPOSE PROFILE | 144

Do your photos have a deeper meaning? In most of my photos, there is a story, a theme behind the character as I believe I have said numerous times. Using my imagination, all this takes shape in my head. That’s why I think it’s a really great activity for me!

Do you use Reshade when taking screenshots? Do you have any favourite presets? Yes! I use one! As for my favourite preset, it’s really complex... Usually, I use the one that best suits the situation, but I modify it quite a lot - with the limited amount of knowledge I have. So it’s always something different from what I had at the beginning but it’s fun! I spend a lot of time doing it.

Do you create your own presets, or have any favourite shaders? I would love to be able to. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about the editable parameters that are available. Since I am French and young, my age creates gaps in my English, but I am learning a little more about the tool every day. I connect each English term to an effect such as “Blur: Rend le fond flou (Makes the background blur)” and by tinkering with everything I discover that if I increase this or that thing, this or that rendering happens. It would actually take longer to create my own preset with my poor knowledge.

Do you have any favourite screenshot locations? The forest. I really like trees and greenery but in general, I pick the places that suit the atmosphere I want to create on my screen. So I don’t really have a favourite place. It actually annoys me not knowing for sure, there are so many pretty little nooks and crannies that are nice to look at!

145 | EORZEANHQ

/GPOSE PROFILE | 146

Do you use any external programs or applications to edit your screenshots, such as photoshop? I would love to use photoshop but unfortunately, I don’t understand a thing about it and also I can’t get around the fact that I would have to download an old version if I want it for free.

What inspires and motivates you? The question I was most looking forward to, to be frank. It can come from anything and everything! An emotion, a morning with a relaxing weather and atmosphere, a music, a fight, an animal, a fruit - there comes the kiwi, my favourite example. I start by finding my theme, while using my memory to invent interesting features. Then I compose my character(s) and I also decide on the atmosphere. I always need music related to how I feel to keep preparing my screenshot, otherwise, I don’t progress and I can’t do anything. Once that is settled, I move on to the long-awaited result: A screenshot! Being transported into this little story is my greatest source of motivation.

147 | EORZEANHQ

Who are your biggest influences? (in the FFXIV community or outside)! I would say Faye Sunseeker, who has long been my will to improve. I also like Talim’s and Yurain Bey’s creations very much. I had to mention them because they are very good gposers. My best friend is always by my side to give me advice. His point of view always helps me a lot in the process of creating my photos.

Do you have any future creative projects planned? No, not just yet. I would love to start a project but unfortunately, I think I often bite off more than I can chew. Also, I would need help, and at my level, I find it hard to dare to ask people if they wouldn’t mind helping me.

HOUSING | 150

ROAD TRIP:

A TOUR OF OTHERWORLDLY HOMES From her perch on the low wall surrounding the Limsan Aetheryte Plaza, the eager Lalafellen lady could survey all the hustle and bustle that always filled the busy thoroughfare. The merchants of Hawker’s Alley shouted their prices over the din of at least four bards entertaining for coin, and the constant hum of conversation filled every corner. There were unfamiliar faces among the crowd these days, <Wanderers> from other worlds come to peruse the market, or to make new friends. The little Lalafell had other reasons for her wanderlust, though. Beautiful houses awaited on faraway worlds. Since the introduction of world visits, Eorzeans from all walks of life have enjoyed the benefits of travelling to different world shards, or servers, within their Datacenter in search of cheap deals on foreign market boards and to visit old friends, new friends, fellow static mates and linkshell acquaintances, as well as continuing the eternal Hunt. Those who find particular joy in Eorzea’s player housing have simply had their favourite pastime made more convenient. In fact, ever since the World Visit system was rolled out, housing tours have become a subset of FF14 content in their own right! Visiting houses on other servers is something avid housing enthusiasts have always done. You see a picture of a house online. You wonder what items they used to make this gorgeous house. You make a new alt on a server, and you run that little level 1 to the nearby residential district in order to see, in-person, the house with the design you simply had to see for yourself. Sure, it was time-consuming and inconvenient. We all had level 1 alts scattered everywhere! And Twelve forbid the house you wanted to see was in the Mist, as that required making a new alt just for Limsa Lominsa! Yes, the world-visit system was a definite qualityof-life upgrade. Many of Eorzea’s top interior designers make Twitter their primary social media outlet, and through this platform, a global network has grown, its vines stretching across all the Data Centers and communicating in a singular language: housing. What housing mains know is that language barriers mean nothing when we all communicate in the same available furniture items and share ideas in pictures and video clips.

151 | EORZEANHQ

HOUSING | 152

153 | EORZEANHQ

But pictures and video clips can only show so much. Houses are meant to be entered, visited, lived in. That’s where housing tours come in! Enthusiasts will get together just like planning an outing to go to the movies with friends, except the plan is to view player housing, often by a specific designer or on a specific server. These events range from spur of the moment solo excursions to crowds of 50+ people travelling in a convoy of Wedding Chocobos and Regalias across the land in order to see extraordinary houses.

A fun habit that the rest of the world has picked up from Japanese housing enthusiasts is taking group pictures at each house and posting them on Twitter! This allows players to connect in such a wonderful way, a way that says “I was here, I loved it, thank you for building such a beautiful house!” Often the owner of the house will share these pictures with their friends, and so the love of housing is spread! Talk about good vibes! Now go gather up your friends to go house-hopping through worlds and wards, and leave behind happy messages and hearts for home-owners to smile at when next they log in to their fantasy home.

LLAMATODD 157 | EORZEANHQ

Hey Todd! No, he wasn’t raised by llamas, but he very well should be. Hailed by his followers as Llamatodd the streamer finds himself at the epicenter of his herd, frequently playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) and Final Fantasy XIV. He is often seen indulging in random topics and talking to his followers about their day all while remaining humble. We probably shouldn’t have but we ended up feeding him to help him get into his new groove.

When did you begin streaming and what drew you to starting a channel? I made the decision to take streaming seriously in January/ February 2019. I invested in a webcam and I was ready to put myself out there as Llamatodd. What drew me to start a channel would be several reasons. First I’d say watching other streamers I look up to like Sips or those in the FFXIV directory and seeing not only what value they can bring into others lives in terms of entertainment but also how you can take that fame and turn it into something bigger than yourself. Charities like Extra Life or St. Jude spring to mind, I’ve seen it a bunch, wouldn’t it be cool to take your own gaming community and help some kids truly in need? There are other reasons, of course, I feel like this gives me a much needed creative outlet I’ve been missing. Not every job is glamorous, but at least with your own Twitch Channel, you decide what gets put out there, you make the graphics, the alerts, the artwork and show it off. I’ve even used it as a reason to get back into drawing since I now draw, you guessed it, llamas, for a lucky viewer each month. Ultimately, if I were to dream big, this would be a full-time job, being a twitch broadcaster, artist, content creator, social media influencer, and everything that comes with it, like hitting up conventions and really getting a sense of building a community and seeing what all we can achieve together. FFXIV has, in my opinion, an amazing community, and I would love for the opportunity to make a difference. We admire your enthusiasm. Llamas. You have an obsession with llamas in the greatest way possible, but what is the reason why you love everything llama?

or so, basically, when I was playing Quake clan matches with my friends and calling people llamas in chat when I fragged them, its kind of how it all started. You see, llamas, back then, were slang for a “noob” or a bad player, so we’d go around slaying llamas in Quake. This term caught on and stuck within my circle of friends and never left and over time, it just morphed and evolved into an actual appreciation of our camelid friends, so much that friends and family would often buy me trinkets and stuffed llamas on their trips because they thought of me. Anyone who was not a gamer just thought I loved llamas, they had no idea it was even an old gamer term. So I thought to myself, how would I describe my own playstyle? Sometimes I play like a llama, sometimes I don’t, I try to set the bar low so everyone is pleasantly surprised when I manage to clear difficult content. I’m constantly self-deprecating, so that’s why I stuck with the Llamatodd name, as a reminder that we’ve all been bad players at one time or another, let’s keep our egos in check and try to help people out instead of being a jerk. Bottom line, I love all things llama, especially actual llamas and if you find a funny llama shirt that I haven’t seen, you better not hold out on me! Could you tell us your philosophy on games in general or just FFXIV? I’ve grown considerably as a gamer, even more so as twitch streamer since the spotlight is on you. I think right now, with my channel, my philosophy is inclusivity, challenging yourself and having fun. The last raid tier was the very first time I’ve cleared everything, before any nerfs to difficulty or “Echo” patches were put in and the feeling was incredible.

Just look at them and tell me they’re not lovable creatures? The infatuation with llamas started very early, around 1994 STREAMER SPOTLIGHT | 158

I thought, man, if a llama like me can do this, surely I can teach some other people who might think they can’t get into raiding. I spent the majority of my streams doing learning parties and introducing a whole new level of raiding to some players who thought they couldn’t do it. Time after time, we go them their clears on a few bosses and it felt absolutely rewarding. I think that there may be some misconceptions about raiding that turns some players off from it, or they think they need to be hardcore or they need to have a static group of friends and a strict schedule. I just wanted to show people that it wasn’t the case and that they are capable of achieving things they thought were too far out of reach for them. The other important thing to note here and this goes beyond FFXIV, but people are coming in from all walks of life to Twitch. They’re coming to escape, to watch video games, to hear your voice to see your reactions and feel included. We’re all gamers, we’re all part of the same community, I want everyone to feel welcome, to feel “herd” and appreciated. You don’t know what type of day someone is having, one act of kindness or one grown man dancing in a llama suit that puts a smile on your face could be all the difference you need in having a better day.

I think by the end of the year we’ll also have a full gallery of the Llama Herd of Fame to showcase, we’ll have to do something special with that! Perhaps some rotating banners and graphics or a microsite. Another thing I’ve been lazy with is cutting graphics for my Channel page bio, that seriously needs some love. My biggest goal is clearly, to become a Twitch Partner, but that will take a lot of effort in building up our community and viewership. I’d also like to be able to create some more original content on YouTube to help the channel out, I’ve been sorely lacking on that front. I don’t want to get too fancy or cluttered with add-ons and stuff, I would like to keep a simple UI, i’m happy with my current overlay. So we’ll see what the future holds! I can only imagine if this were my full-time job, I would go absolutely nuts with creative projects and EVEN possibly toss in a few random variety days. Now that would be an accomplishment, to build my community up so strong that I could do a little variety from time to time. All I know is, from my short time as an affiliate, I’ve met some truly amazing people, streamers and viewers alike, that are the reason I want to hit that Go Live button each night. Their kindness, generosity, friendship and support has been truly humbling and something I could have never predicted happening when I started this venture. And we appreciate everything you’re doing and continue to do. Best of luck to you and your channel, but don’t forget to thank your wife for helping us with this surprise!

What are your plans for the future of the channel? Do you have any special ideas in mind or are you planning to just keep it simple? I have tons of ideas, I have voiced some of them, I just have a hard time finding the free time to do everything! I’ve kind of a goal in my head have any of these visions and ideas created and ready to roll out when hit 1000 followers, I think that would be an excellent milestone and due date, so to speak. Basically, I would love to create a few pixel art intros of my own design, based off of my favorite classic video games, except, this time with llamas, to replace the “borrowed” stock llama photography I found, I’d also like to work on creating custom stinger transitions in SLOBS as well as a few nicer BRB screens to mix things up.

Excuse me, time for a few questions? Claire

Gladly! How do you like the expansion so far? Did it grab you and was it better than Stormblood? I just loved the story! I did not expect a few scenes, that’s what made it so exciting! What was THE surprise moment for you? The story of Tesleen! That she suddenly changed, that came unexpectedly! Yeah, I doubted for a second that the game is 12 years old, I thought it was a bit scary! I see you play astrologian, are you happy with the healer changes? No, not at all! In the beginning, it annoyed me so much that I considered changing my main! You’ve taken the peculiarity of the cards to the astrologer, the MP consumption is also quite high and with that you have to be clear. You’re not the only one I hear about that. That’s a pity, did you find another alternative for you? Since I like to play healer, White Mage. I do not get along well with the scholar, but that was the case even before the expansion.

Then I hope that our Whitemage brings back the necessary healer fun! Thank you for the interview! 163 | EORZEANHQ

Sure, I’m just waiting for the house to be vacated, so I have time! You are a Viera, one of the new races. How do you like it, was the Fantasia worth it? At first I was very skeptical, but they quickly convinced me! I like the feminine body and the more subtle emotes. The only downside is for the character creation options. I hope you will adjust that with the next patch. At least for the already bought and earned hairstyles! I hope so, it would be a shame if the selection in the breed remains limited! I already interviewed a healer today and you also seem to be White mage Main, happy with the WHM in Shadowbringers? Yes definitely! They really picked me up with the changes! Do you have a personal highlight in the expansion? Oh that’s hard to answer! The story has kept me breathless from start to finish, and the new areas and dungeons are breathtakingly beautiful! Especially the forest Rak’tika, there’s just everything: The feeling of being in the middle of the forest in nature, the music to it, oh I’m just so excited every time! That’s just La-Hee! And thanks for the interview! Yes, yes!

Excuse me, time for a few questions? Dazai

Always! You have successfully mastered the latest addition to Final Fantasy! What did you like, what did you like most? The extension has inspired me since the first hour and my highlight was definitely the fight against Hades! As a longtime Ascian fan, it was very exciting for me to hear the stories of the Amaurot! If you liked Hades as an antagonist, was there one of our heroes who stood out for you? Do you have one or a favorite? Ryne was such a great character! Despite the dark future, she experienced a strong personality change within the expansion and felt that I was the most connected to her! Yes, especially before the fight against Hades, it has also moved me a lot! Of course, there were also new armour and glamour to get hold of! Have you already found something really nice for your Viera? Unfortunately, I could not completely change my Viera, because the collectors and crafts trades are not yet sufficiently leveled. However, there are really beautiful clothes especially from the quirks of the Qitari and the new Eden Raid which are so beautiful, especially in female characters, that you just have to have them! What about you with the latest challenges? What do you think of the new bosses, dungeons and exams? My absolute favorite dungeon is currently the Crystal Gem! You can see the technical features inside the tower and can combine many elements from the past to the current events, especially with the music I always get in a good mood when I hear them! That’s one of my absolute favourite songs! Thanks for the interview Dazai! Gladly, that was fun!
