EDITOR’S LETTER

H

ello everyone and welcome to our first issue of EorzeanHQ! If you’re wondering why you’re seeing a new shiny logo instead of our usual TMP on the cover of this issue, let me explain!

You may be aware of a situation that occurred almost a year ago that stained our reputation as The Moogle Post, and within the FFXIV community. We have been working tirelessly and slowly to repair our image ever since that time. However, we had a dark storm-cloud looming over us with many people; even to this day. It has made things challenging for us to grow beyond what was expected of us, despite the fact that none of the people involved in the incident are here any longer. This looming cloud has caused us to lose many opportunities with content creators and contributors who would have otherwise wanted to join us. That being said, with our rebrand...it’s not JUST a name change. It is a promise to be better—to be high quality. So we hope with pruning these dead branches, we can once more be a positive influence of the community, and one which you can be proud to be a part of. We are really excited about what is to come. For one thing, as you can see a complete overhaul of our magazine! I would like to formally like to introduce our talented new editors Milee, Aleterasu, Nusha and Amara who made all of this possible, they have been working extremely hard to bring this issue to you and I think it’s our best issue yet! I am so excited to share what is in this magazine so let me give you a quick glimpse - we at EorzeanHQ are all about the community and how creative you are, so we are pleased to feature Nora Rappy, a housing genius straight from Japan who was kind enough to give us a sneak peek into his creative process. We are also bringing back cosplay; we sat down with Tsukimi, who wowed us with her detailed Au’Ra in real life glamour. We hope you enjoy this month’s issue as much as we did creating it!

WRITTEN BY MAYAH EDITED BY ALETERASU & NUSHA

ALL PRIDE IS HIGH QUALITY

LGBTQ+ EORZEA

H

YDAELYN has spoken. “Trans rights are human rights!” she declared. Or at least, Naoki Yoshida seems supportive of transgender people, and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. Not only is this wonderful news, but it’s a step in the right direction for our world. Yoshida plans to reduce the amount of new gear that is gender-restricted, and gradually remove the restriction on older items. This is great not only for glamour reasons (if the Twelve only knew how much we want a female Miqo’te to wear the Bohemian’s Coat), but also for roleplayers who want their character to be visually portrayed to suit their gender identity and self expression needs - without feeling like they have to sacrifice their character’s sex with a Fantasia.

If you live in an area, a home, a country, or otherwise that is not supportive of you, always know that at Eorzean HQ, and within Eorzea, there is no homophobia to be found! So be the Warrior of Light you want to be. Be the lesbian botanist, the NPC-like gay character, the bi-sexual adventurer, a trans inn owner, or queer raider. Never let anyone put you down for who you are or who you love.

We just said goodbye to our summer starter, June. Since it was Pride month, we’re sure the positive viral social media, fun-filled parades in multiple countries, and blogs do a good enough job to remind all of us in the LGBTQ+ community that we are amazing, valid, and beautiful. And by the twelve we are.

Best,

If you want to read more about Yoshi-P’s views on gender-restricted gear or other topics, teleport here. Post-Pride Glams coming at ya!

EORZEAN HQ

We’ve survived some absolutely horrendous oppression throughout history. The first ever Pride parade on Saturday, June 27, 1970, was organised to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of the previous year, and with that, the LGBTQ+ movement had begun. It’s grown larger throughout every generation to become everything it is today, and that fire still burns with the passion of a thousand Phoenixes.

NORA RAPPY E-HQ is thrilled to feature Eorzea’s most influential housing designer: the man, the myth, the legend Nora Rappy! His houses are and have always been some of the most innovative and creative works of art that FF14 housing fans flock to see, learn from, and cherish. Many top housing designers point to Nora Rappy as the origin of virally popular housing concepts. Nora Rappy, who is gracious to all of his guests and visitors, was very kind to take some time out of his busy schedule to let us interview him. We were thrilled for the opportunity to get to know Nora and ask him some questions about his art, for his creations are truly masterpieces!

6 | NORA RAPPY INTERVIEW

E-HQ Hello Nora! Thank you so much for taking the time to have this interview with us. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Nora Hello! Thanks for giving me this opportunity.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe your design style, what would they be? Fantasy / 空想 Worldview / 世界観 Entertainment / 娯楽 (Or if I need to express more directly...) Fantasy / 空想 Natural / 自然 Modern / 近代的

Do you plan your layout before you start building? I don’t think about the arrangement of furniture in advance, I only envision a style in my head. Actually, I don’t even know myself what kind of layout I’ll have by the time it’s completed.

Can you tell us about the process you go through when you decorate a house? We love the attention to detail you put in every single one of your builds. Thank you! First of all, I hide any unused space to determine the shape of the room, etc. Then I try out various ideas that I want to create. For example, beautiful windows and cute kitchens, etc. What I make depends on my mood at that time. When I have finished making individual pieces, I will assemble it whilst imagining freely from there.

Can you remember the very first house you have ever decorated? What did it look like? My first decoration was an altar to Haurchefant in my apartment, because I was playing “patch 3.4” just then. It never occurred to me at the time that I would end up crazy about housing.

What inspires you for your creations? I like fantasy RPGs, movies, and anime, every time I see such works, I want to decorate a fantasy world in my Housing.

What is your favourite house so far? Saint Mocianne’s House - This is my favourite house because I and the owner both love nature.

HQ ARTICLES | 25

What was the most challenging build you have done and why was it challenging? Wizard House - I stuffed this house with all my favourite things and my ideas. I was able to reproduce the world view I wanted to create.

What do you do when you run out of ideas or get stuck? At those times I try something different to change my mind. This is why I work in a variety of styles.

You are always setting new trends for all of FF14’s housing community. Do you intend to be a trend-setter, or are you just building for your own enjoyment? I don’t really see myself as a trend-setter because I just always enjoy freely for myself without thinking deeply. That won’t change in the future.

What other things besides Housing do you like doing in FF14? I’m hardly interested in anything except in relation to Housing...

26 | NORA RAPPY INTERVIEW

Are you working on something new currently? I don’t have any particular plans right now, but someday I hope to create a venue for user events.

Have you already planned a new design for the future and if so, what theme are you thinking of? I always have a lot of design ideas I want to make; fantasy, country, natural, modern, Japanese style etc. but there’s never enough time to do it all.

Do you have any advice for people who are new to Housing? You need to master a lot of skills if you want to make great housing, but I think it is most important for you to find a lot of your favourite furniture.

Rear-ly important notice! By Sheria Barnes Alright folks, in this month’s combined How to git gud and Last Bastion, we will be focusing on Positionals for Tanks and DPS . For those who are unfamiliar with the concept, positionals are attacks that have an increased damage potency if you use them when standing at either the Rear or Flank (side) of an enemy. This article will cover both melee dps positional attacks, and the role that tanks play in helping those dps use their positionals.

31 | LAST BASTION

HQ ARTICLES | 32

THESE ARE THE SKILLS To keep things simple at the start, let’s begin with Melees (hurray). Tanks are Melees as well if you want to be precise, but they have no additional bonuses from attacking certain spots of the Boss. So, let’s just take the Monk as an example here. Monk has the biggest skillset in terms of positionals, with 6 skills in total being affected by positioning.

Combo 1

Bootshine (Rear) >>> True Strike (Rear) + Snap Punch (Flank) >>>

+

Combo 2

Dragon Kick (Flank) >>> Twin Snakes (Flank) >>> Demolish (Rea >>>

33 | LAST BASTION

>>>

ar)

HQ ARTICLES | 34

We are going to focus on the fact that these skills receive a bonus for executing them at a certain position. What does that mean? Basically, if we execute the skill from the optimal position (Flank/Rear) we get a bonus on the skill, in the form of higher damage potency or a guaranteed critical hit. These Bonuses vary for each Melee you play, Samurai for example gets more Kenki if either Gekko or Kasha are executed from the correct position, Ninja has Trick Attack which gives the target a vulnerability-up debuff if executed from the rear and Dragoon has higher Potency on his 3 positional attacks. Have a look at the following graphic right, you will see what this is all about. (This is the circle that appears under targeted NPC’s, Enemies, Players etc)

35 | LAST BASTION

>>>

HQ ARTICLES | 36

37 | LAST BASTION

I often spot Melees doing this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not incorrect because you get the potency bonus, but there is no need to run from Hongkong to Moscow for your positionals, here is what you can do instead.

HQ ARTICLES | 38

IMPORTANT NOTE Never delay your gcd to hit your positionals. If you can not reach the flank for your Snap Punch in time, DO NOT save your attack until you are at the flank, hit the Front or the Rear, wherever you are. Delaying your attack destroys your whole synch with your group’s raid buffs!

What you’re seeing here is exactly what you should think of when doing positionals. If you target something, you see the circle below your target which indicates its positionals. You can simply dance around the green line between the Rear and the Flank, with almost no movement necessary at all! Pretty neat isn’t it? So in general, you don’t have to run a marathon around the boss to hit those juicy positionals, dance around them like a little ballerina! That’s all I have to say for DPS today, let’s jump to Tanks. As I already mentioned, Tanks don’t have any positional advantages in terms of potency, but they can help DPS hit their positionals. Whenever I play with a Tank who thinks he has to dance with the Boss, I get very upset. Tanks tend to not care where the Boss is facing at all, especially when said Tank has never played as a Melee. What I’m trying to tell our Tank friends is the following: 1. If the Boss is moveable then never, ever, make them rear face the wall, as this makes it (almost) impossible for dps to hit positionals. 2. STOP moving the boss for NO reason at all. I am saying this because a lot of Tanks tend to move with the boss for no particular reason. If nothing is happening that requires you to move, then Don’t. 3. Try to always make the Boss face the same direction in a fight, this will make it way easier for everyone else to orient themselves during a fight, especially when you are newer to said fight. For example, try to always make the Boss face towards the North, that way your Party always knows in advance where they need to be on the map to hit their positionals. So the perks of keeping the Boss steady in one place, and not running around like a headless chicken are: 1. You clear fights faster when because your Melees do more damage due to the Positional bonus. 2. You can orientate way better on the battlefield if you stay still with the Boss.

Alright folks, I hope you enjoyed this edition about Positionals and that you’re looking forward to trying out some of these tips in Shadowbringers! If there is anything regarding this topic that I may not have covered today, feel free to contact me on Discord! SHERIA BARNES

TSUKIMI Hey, I am Tsukimi Yiandrew! This is also my name in XIV!! I’m a part time cosplayer for almost 2 years now. So still pretty new overall. Since my full time job is quite time demanding I don’t get much time working on new cosplay often (in fact I still spend just as much time playing the game as making costumes). Moving forward I might as well just become a FFXIV cosplayer /laugh

43 | Tsukimi

Can you tell us about the process of making a costume? We love your attention to detail and love the high quality of your craftsmanship! Aw thank you!! First I take a ton of references photos in different lightings and from all angles. One of my secrets is normally I take 2 groups of references: in game lighting and a Moogle Shade one with strong AO. This helps me to see the details later when I make my costume. Sometimes I’d like to combine more than one sources. Like Au Ra, it’s actually a combination of both in game and concept from the art book.

Then I start planning the costume. Breaking things down based on materials/usage. So at this point I am not really thinking about what real life material I will be using, but more like what the game is trying to say. In the Au Ra starter, I simply broke it down to dress (leather+fabric), armor (metal) and scales/ tail/horn (organic). This process helps me to identify what materials I will need to buy later. I wouldn’t say so, I just kinda like to draw characters related to sadness or sorrow! Pretty emo, but hey, it’s just how my aesthetics work!

Step 3: Buy source materials. This is a ton of shopping around especially for fabrics. I like to think about the lore and usage throughout the crafting process. Often ask why something is here. For example, the dangling beads on the belt, I used bone and fake red corals because of where Au Ra live (it’s really not that important but I thought it would be cute lol)

Step 4.

Patterning and planning. Now I can actually For the most part it’s the typical costume making pro tape myself to make patterns or directly print out fro images. With more interesting shapes, I like to make passes till I’m happy. This is my typical way of doing w items. However, things like the tail, it’s a ton of plann I actually started. I knew I want a more flexible tail bu like hard bones. I looked up lots of different types of tails online and see what people have done. It helped options. Unlike the rest of the cosplay, this tail took m patterning till I was finally happy with the bone struct

work on it. ocess. I’d duct om in game e a few paper wearable ning before ut still looks joints and d to know the me 3 rounds of ture.

Step 5. Making and adding random details that makes sense. Normally once most

things are planned out, it doesn’t take much time the get a decent cosplay put together. However it sadly takes just as much time if not more to add those tiny details. These details normally help me to bring out the texture of an object, and now it’s time to think about how it might look if it’s in real life. For example, I added lizard/ dragon type of scale details on my horns and tails where in the game it’s hard to see (ya I’ve totally seen a dragon in my life /laugh), but I painted it based on elephant tusks. Always having real life references help to make things more believable. there are tons of tutorials out there on YouTube and Ins. Not all of them gonna be Useful 100% of time so you will need a ton of mix and match, and experiments.

Tsukimi | 46

47 | Tsukimi

We know you’ve cosplayed from Final Fantasy XIV, but have you cosplayed from any of the other Final Fantasy games? Hmmm yes and no /laugh. I was actually cosplaying Yuna at Vegas Fan Fest 16, but I didn’t really make that one. In fact, because of that experience I decided to actually get into cosplay and make my own costume. Yuna didn’t fit too well and the quality was meh.

What has been the most challenging part of costume making for you? Was there anything you thought might be easy to make, but ended up being more difficult than you expected? I think overall in all my costume is putting everything together in the end like rigging. You can plan things well separately but it’s always a beast to have them all together and still have mobility. For example, I made the tail rig for Au Ra almost perfect (at least I thought) the first time and tested on my mannequin. It holds pretty well. Everything seemed to work. A week before I need to wear it, I tested on myself wearing it, then everything changed. Even small walking motion would give just enough force at that specific to bump off the tail since it’s attached with magnets. So I had to redo the rigging last minute. Same thing happened to Rathalos. Though I could have tested earlier, but I think you will never know how each part will play together until you finish all.

HQ Cosplay | 48

What classes do you play in the game? I’m an AST main /coverface but really used to play all casters so know a bit of everything. But recently I’ve been learning NIN. Almost there lol

What events are you planning to attend in the future? I normally go to local cons (UT) which is kinda sad that one of the biggest one is not super XIV friendly. I did plan on doing AX but this year it conflicts with SHB launch. But I will try travel for cons in the future now that I graduated. Oh and... Fan Fest. Lol always Fan Fest!!!

Do you have any other Final Fantasy XIV project in mind? Are you working on something else currently? Yes. I actually started AF3 AST last year but felt like there are some skills that I didn’t have at the time so I paused it. Making Au Ra starter is because I wanted something light that I can just put on for a quick cosplay. Plus I can reuse the Au Ra part. Also I’m thinking maybe doing a crafter AF gear (not sure which) to run cosplay repair station at fan fest next year lol maybe

49 | Tsukimi

HQ Cosplay | 50

6 | LUMINISCENT

Lastly, Which cosplay has been your favourite to create and why? Probably Au Ra actually. Even though I have finished the AST and it was fun and I believe it will be much more interesting to make a globe that actually works lol. Au Ra, however, has surprisingly has many details that I didn’t noticed when I jokingly said “I will just make a quick starter gear” and I used many different source materials that I’ve never used before. I had to learn leather tooling. In fact, I still want to finish making that little leather bag on the back of the belt. For the other cosplays, I was mostly learning how to craft but this one is the very first one I felt like I was able to combine different techniques I learned before and experiment a bit:3. Again, I haven’t been doing it much so there is still a looooong way to go XD

Thank you Tsukimi for answering our questions! And if any of our readers want to be featured in future issues, please don’t hesitate to send me a message. Happy Cosplay!

This month, EHQ is happy to feature Luminescent, an Russian freelance artist with a dreamy elegant style that’s sure to draw your attention! In this interview, we discuss their artwork, influences, and beginnings.

LUMINESCENT

FAN ARTIST Q&A Written by Faye Tell us a bit about yourself! Hello! My name is Daria, I’m 27 *cough* soon 28 *cough*, I’m Russian, and I currently live in the UK where I work as a tattoo artist--which is my dream job, so I’m very lucky! Haha! I believe I started digita l about 3 years a go and I fell in love with it! How did you first start your first FFXIV related art piece? My first FFXIV-related art piece was a commission! I was doing commissions through tumblr and someone requested their character. That’s also how I got into the game! Do you create artwork related to any other games or media? Yep! I always draw my characters from different games, and since I was doing commissions I used to draw a lot of characters related to other games - which is pretty fun!

HQ FANART | 74

THE WORLD Digital Artwork 2018

VEENA VIERA PORTRAIT Digital Artwork 2019

Do you have any formal training in artwork or in visual media? Not really! It’s something that I’ve been doing my whole life. I’ve actually studied computer applications with multimedia. Art is something that I always loved. Even though I’m not amazing at it and I lack knowledge of a lot of things, I still enjoy it. How would you describe your visual style? Hmmm, hard question. I don’t really know to be honest! I love Tarot cards (especially the Dragon Age tarot pieces), but I also like many semi-realistic pieces. I’m quite far from realism, but Tarot style is something that I really admire, so I’m kinda trying to blend together the styles that i love .

75 | LUMINISCENT

What inspires and motivates you? Music inspires me a lot. I can’t draw without music. Several artists that I really love are a huge inspiration to me as well, so whenever I don’t feel motivated to draw, I always look at their work and motivation comes back. What is your favourite subject matter to draw? Characters and Tarot illustrations!

HQ FANART | 76

Does your artwork have a deeper meaning? I wouldn’t say so, I just kinda like to draw characters related to sadness or sorrow! Pretty emo, but hey, it’s just how my aesthetics work! Who are your biggest influences? Vetyr is probably my biggest inspiration, and Fleshwerks - I love their art. Music-wise I like listening to Owsey when I draw, Above and Beyond, The Birthday Massacre, and Lana Del Rey! Which is your favourite piece you have created so far? “The Sun - Tarot” that I did as a commission for a friend! Do have any future art projects planned? Yes! I plan on working on a Patreon! Do you have any advice for people starting out in drawing and digital art? Don’t start directly with digital. Holding a pencil and working on paper feels completely different and you can actually “feel” what you are drawing. Digital is easier because you can erase your mistakes, but traditional will help you understand values and learn from your mistakes. What has your experience with commissions been like? Any horror stories? Thankfully, every person that I’ve worked with was very pleasant and easy to work with! That’s also a reason why I’m grateful for doing digital art. Describe your ideal weekend in five words! Pizza, Modding, Sketching, Movie, Gaming!

What pray tell could inhabit this place? Our visitor made their way up the small steps surrounding of the quaint wagon adorned in hanging herbs, potion bottles, and elaborate fabrics. They enter to see a woman toiling with a cauldron, with a carbuncle upon her shoulders. She raised her head knowing of the new presence in her space, and nodded speaking, “Ah, you’ve finally made it. I have just the thing you’ve been looking for”. The Traveling Seer was inspired with the use of the Scions’ Traveling Gear that our dear Taru made for us after the latest patch, and the mystery behind anyone with a wandering soul.

TALIM

Please introduce yourself, and tell us a bit about you. Hi, my name is Talim and I’m still quite new to all things FFXIV. Just like many others, I love the /gpose function in the game and I like editing my pictures with Photoshop to give them a bit more life! Also, I have recently started working on a YouTube series called “Warriors of Light”.

How long have you been playing FFXIV? I have only been playing FFXIV for three months. I had tested it before, when it came out, but didn’t really get into it at that point. But now I love the game and I love the community, too. It is such a vastly different feeling to what I’m used to from other MMORPGs. I remember, in the first week of me playing, randomly a Miqo’te girl came by and gave me three minions. Just like that, for free. Of course there are exceptions, but in total I think people of the FFXIV community are much more friendly and polite.

What is your favourite aspect of the game? I’m a big fan of the FFXIV story and that you as the character are the hero of it. This is what inspired me for my YouTube series. Haven’t you ever dreamt of being the superhero that saves the day?

What lead you to try /gpose and video game photography? It all began by me starting my journey in Eorzea together with my three best friends. Every little success was recorded with a /gpose photo. Coincidentally I saw screenshots of other people and wondered why they looked so good! I wanted

What lead you to try /gpose and video game photography? IIt all began by me starting my journey in Eorzea together with my three best friends. Every little success was recorded with a /gpose photo. Coincidentally I saw screenshots of other people and wondered why they looked so good! I wanted that, too. This is how I came across moogleshade.

Do you have any formal training in photography or any other visual media? I have always had a creative side. A long time ago I wanted to make this my job but in the end it always stayed a hobby. My knowledge and skills came purely out of interest and enjoyment of creative work.

What is your favourite subject matter to take photos of? I like it when pictures display emotion. I want it to look as real as possible and give the viewer a specific impression. Is the picture heroic, sad, happy, affectionate? I think this is what makes us look at pictures a little longer.

What is your favourite image or collection you have created so far? That would be one of my very first pictures, that I have taken wearing the Garlond armor. We had just arrived in Ishgard. If you have followed the story, you’ll know how and why you had to go there. This was the first picture where I said: “Yes, this is the emotion I want to show!” 167 | TALIM

How would you describe your visual style? I love vibrant colours. The picture has to grab your attention. Although, all in all I would consider myself being a little more chaotic than others. I never hold on to just one specific style. I just always try to find something fitting for the picture I am taking.

Do your photos have a deeper meaning? That depends on what sort of screenshot I am taking. If it’s for my character’s story, a glamour or a picture to remember. I think every kind of picture can tell a story and have a deeper meaning. You look through your gallery and feel like you’re looking through an old photo album.

Do you use Reshade when taking screenshots? Do you have any favorite presets? Most of the time I use Faye’s Warfare preset. It is clear, it highlights the character and enhances the colours wonderfully.

Do you create your own presets, or have any favourite shaders? Yes, so far I have created three presets. My first one is called Colorpunch, because I really love vibrant colours. It’s meant to make pictures look playful and happy. After that I created Color Me Softly and Summersnow, which I made just for my ingame wedding.

171 | TALIM

Do you have any favourite screenshot locations? Indeed I find myself coming back to two locations that I use for my screenshots. The first one is the entrance to Gridania where the Warrior of Light starts their journey, just right next to the adventurer’s guild. This is where my first Preset was created, perfect for the surroundings there.

Do you use any external programs or applications to edit your screenshots, such as photoshop? Yes, I do. I use Photoshop most of the time. I don’t like rough edges around my character, so I often work on removing those, as well as adding more light reflections to the eyes.

What inspires and motivates you? I like to think of things myself. I keep getting lots of ideas, especially when I listen to music. I always want to realize them there and then. I think all of us try to improve constantly and taking that one screenshots that we can proudly use as our desktop background!

Who are your biggest influences? (in the FFXIV community or outside) There are a few gposers that I like a lot! Yurian Bey is one of them. I like how he keeps true to his style, he is very recognizable. A big influence on me was my best friend Duckey. He plays with me on Shiva and always helps me improve by giving me honest and helpful critiques. I’m very thankful for that.

173 | TALIM

GPOSE PROFILE | 174

Do you have any future creative projects planned? Yes, at the moment I am working on my YouTube series Warriors of Light, Episode 1. It is a challenge for someone who doesn’t know a lot about video editing software, to make all ideas become reality. But it is very important to me that what I create has a purpose, a message so to speak. This is why I take my time and work on my projects until I’m satisfied enough to upload them. And then of course I hope it is something that people like. I’ve got a lot ideas for future videos, luckily a few of them less complicated to do, but let’s just take one step at a time!

GPOSE PROFILE | 176

THE MIST • PLOT 30, 2ND WARD • PHOENIX On the sunny shores of La Noscea lies a coastal town paved with bright white limestone and trimmed in exotic bursts of color. Lanes of cut stone lined with carefully cultivated flora gleam as they wind up the seaside slopes, dotted with brightly-colored villas, set against the backdrop of lush verdure. This pristine paradise, carved into the edge of the tropical jungle, meets the sandy shore with a low retaining wall. Sapphire waters gently lap up onto the white sands, where sun-seekers frolic and splash.

SWAN LAKE

The Mist offers respite from the troubles of daily Eorzean life, a shining beacon that invites adventurers to forget about saving the world and enjoy the simple pleasures of sun and sea.

179 | EORZEAN ESTATES

Climb the paved stone steps up from the beach, near where the wilds of the tropics meet the coast in a rocky cliff of seaspray and palm trees. At the top of the steps, tucked into a pocket of lush greenery and vibrant flowers, lies a coastal bungalow surrounded by a flourishing floral hedge. “Seek peace and privacy within me, the house seems to say.

183 | EORZEAN ESTATES

Blazing tropical heat gives way to cool relief once inside the front door. The front foyer is clean and striking; a plush rug with an exotic motif serves both form and function before the door. Fresh-cut flowers in makeshift shabby-chic vases adorn the wall above a repurposed wheel cart-turned-table. To the right, an enclosed but well-lit staircase leads to the upper floor.

SWAN LAKE | 184

Custom built-in shelves house an assortment of knick-knacks, as well as a guest book propped up on a stand, its crisp sheets of paper ready to be signed. Directly ahead, the central living area sits upon a raised floor. Ascend a few low steps to a sitting room with a luxurious white sofa and modern, boxy coffee table.

185 | EORZEAN ESTATES

SWAN LAKE | 186

Silky tulip stems grace the table in delicate golden vases. Alongside them is spread a Riviera-style luncheon, including a tall glass of chilled fruit juice, freshly squeezed. Modern track lighting illuminates the windowless room, though the wide openings into the side rooms allow plenty of natural light to stream in. A panoramic win-

187 | EORZEAN ESTATES

dow to the east catches the eye; a stunning view of the ocean extends beyond the horizon, wavecaps glittering in the gleam of a low-hanging celestial orb.

SWAN LAKE | 188

189 | EORZEAN ESTATES

Modest candlelight supplements the heavenly glow over the bar and suffuses the room in a comforting warm glow, matched only by the afterglow of having a glass of fine Eorzean red after a long day of adventuring.

SWAN LAKE | 190

To the other side of the sitting room lies the library, featuring a west-facing bay window with tiered seating. Deep navy walls accent the deep mahogany wood, as inset bookshelves line the walls laden with a lifetime of reading material.

191 | EORZEAN ESTATES

The smooth wood of the window seat is softened by throw cushions and plushies, a stack of oft-read favorites in easy reach of this comfortable perch. The simple symmetry leaves room for an active imagination--mayhap a gentle tug on one of the shelved books will trigger a bookcase to slide aside, revealing a secret door to private chambers beyond?

SWAN LAKE | 192

Further exploration of the contemporary beach house leads to the smooth-walled staircase to the floor above. Turn the corner into a simple hallway at the top, revealing a single doorway left unopened; the latticed paper door slides aside to reveal a breathtaking bedroom balcony. Half-walls enclose the sleeping space on three sides, with solid wood pillars to support the roof above.

193 | EORZEAN ESTATES

The tropical forest without envelopes the chambers in its steamy embrace. Through the verdure, a waterfall can be seen. The peaceful sounds of the running water from the jungle and waves from the shore can only mean that this room is the most ideal place in the world for deep, relaxing sleep. A plush oversized mattress sits on a modern platform bed frame, down comforter folded neatly across the foot of the bed wards against the rare cold spell in these tropical climes. SWAN LAKE | 194

195 | EORZEAN ESTATES

Through the east window, the ocean is visible yet again, heavenly orb casting its glow into the glittering waters of a deep claw-foot bathtub steaming in the corner of the room. The blissfully hot bath soothes away all the aches and bruises that come with the title Warrior of Light. What the water does not heal, the balm of tranquility will. Come adventurer, rest your weary soul in this coastal lodge. It’s waiting for you, there on the sunny shores of La Noscea. SWAN LAKE | 196

EXCUSE ME -- It’s us, your EHQ Reporters! Today, Talim of the Light DC is here with you all to ask questions about who you are and what you, the community, think about Shadowbringers. Who lives with us, here in Eorzea? Come and find out with me; let’s get to know our wonderful community!

199 | EHQ EXCUSE ME?

Talim

Excuse me, have you got time for a few questions? Haru

Sure, go ahead. Earlier you approached me just because we’re playing the same class. Have you had good experiences with the FF14 community? Yes, I love hanging out in Limsa Lominsa. Sometimes I just /tell people. In my experience people in this game are very friendly, though of course every now and again you’ll find a few black sheep. I totally agree. So, are you looking forward to the new expansion? Yes, I’m very excited about continuing the story. I’m looking forward to the new jobs, changes and new things. I’m especially looking forward to the new Ultimates, because I enjoy raiding. But the best of all is the music! I love the FF14 soundtrack! Ah yes, I love it, too! Which one is your favourite? Oh, that’s a difficult choice. I’d say the orchestra version of Ultima. Thank you for your time! COMMUNITY | 202

Talim

Excuse me, have you got time for a few questions? E’viloh

For you guys, always! Oh, how did you hear about us? A while ago I found the guides on your website. Since then I’ve always been excited about the variety of topics in the magazine. We’re happy to hear that! What do you like most about FFXIV? Is there anything you particularly love? Yes, first of all I like the story. I have fallen in love with the different characters very quickly and I’m looking forward to the main story continuing in Shadowbringers. Then, of course, I’m looking forward to leveling up. This character right here is an alt, on my main character I have all jobs on level 70 already. Oh, how come, did you feel like trying out another race or gender? My main character is an Elezen. A few months ago I made an alt to experience the world of Final Fantasy again from a fresh perspective with my girlfriend, who’s completely new to the game. Aww, that’s sweet! Well, I wish the both of you lots of fun together in Eorzea! Thanks a lot!

COMMUNITY | 204

Talim

Excuse me, have you got time for a few questions? Sora

Sure thing! Are you the sort of person who sticks with one race for life, or are you more of a Fantasia addict? I’ve used Fantasias before. Originally I was a Miqo’te. I liked to play different alts in other MMOs before, so I like to change it up a bit, but I keep gravitating back to my Miqo’te, although, I love the look of my Au Ra a lot, too. I agree, also your outfit looks great! It looks very mystic. Does your Au Ra like shopping for glamour? Yes, I love it! I keep looking on the market board and on websites for nice things to discover. I am very satisfied with my current outfit, although I could probably wear something new soon. For me, glamour is the real endgame, especially in FFXIV. So you like to keep up to date! Do you prefer class outfits or more casual glamours? Since healers often wear white, I’m always look for armor pieces I can dye. As you can see, I prefer black and purple. It looks amazing! Thank you for your time.

COMMUNITY | 206

Talim

Excuse me, have you got time for a few questions?

Elvalas

Of course! Why have you decided to play a Lalafell? Originally I was a male Miqo’te but I lost a bet and had to go Lalafell for three weeks. It’s now been three months. I like them now! Yep, they are so lovely and photogenic! So, are there any jobs you like and dislike? I personally get on with Red Mage very well, it’s a fun class and I like the story surrounding it. At the moment I can be found playing as a Warrior a lot, since I wanted to try tanking. After I had leveled all three tank jobs up, I liked Warrior best. The Dark Knight wasn’t really my preference. Also, I haven’t leveled Machinist to 70 yet. Oh yes, Lalafell Warriors - I love this combination! Thank you for your time and I wish you lots of success for the future! I thank you.

Talim

Excuse me, have you got time for a few questions? Backspace

Yeah, of course. You seem to be quite a new player, what were your first experiences like? I have started playing this game with two friends. We were a trio made up of a Gladiator, an Archer and a Conjurer, so getting into the game was fairly easy like this. Together we had the motivation to do those “Go there and kill that”-quests. I can remember our first Primal fight, Ifrit. We were pretty surprised by what happened in this battle. And I had no idea what was ahead of us. I hope in a positive way? So, were you the one starting the game as a tank? Do you still like it or have you found interest in a different class, maybe one that you’d prefer as a main for Shadowbringers? Of course in a positive way! There are so many cool fights, so many great and unique classes. So many good-byes to Tataru before you start new adventures. I already have Paladin, Ninja and Astrologian on level 70, next followed by Dragoon. I’m not sure which class I will play in Shadowbringers. I’ll wait until I know what all the changes feel like. How about the new races, Hrothgar and Viera? Do you like them and are they worth a Fantasia to you? I do like both concepts a lot, but since I don’t play female characters, I will not be a Viera. The Hrothgar are quite appealing to me (Kimahri ftw!), but I think at the moment there are not enough options for hairstyles. I hope that more will be added in later patches and if that’s the case, I think it will be worth a Fantasia. Thanks a lot for your time! No problem!

HAVE YOU GOT ANY QUESTIONS FOR YOUR FELLOW EORZEANS? HARD CORE RAIDER OR CASUAL? CRAFTING AND/OR HOUSING? WOW REFUGEE? WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS? Maybe you’ve got a story that you’d like to share with the community! Tell us on the E-HQ Discord and our reporters will be there, no matter if in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul’dah or in the Chocobo stables.
