TRAVEL NEWS: What’s blooming in travel this spring

By Isabelle Labrosse

As countries worldwide are loosening restrictions and globetrotters are eagerly getting back to travel, here’s the latest from some of our partners.

AIMING FOR THE SKY

The sixth and final of Princess Cruises’ Royal-class ship, Discovery Princess, has sailed for its maiden season on March 27, cruising the Pacific coast of the U.S., Canada and Mexico, as well as Alaska. The 3,660-guest ship features unparalleled amenities and accommodations, including the over-the-top Sky Suite, which hosts up to five guests on the ship’s 18th deck. But the suite’s heightened location is not its best attribute. It also features a 92-square-metre, wraparound balcony offering a dazzling 270-degree panorama. Of course, the experience wouldn’t be complete without exclusive amenities such as champagne upon arrival, reserved Princess Theater seating and a dedicated suite experience manager.

WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN

In an effort to support communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19, Intrepid Travel has recently reintroduced its Women’s Expeditions with new destinations and experiences, enabling authentic encounters with women relying on tourism to support themselves and their families. A few highlights of the reimagined expeditions include a night in India’s Thar Desert with traditional food and dances by local women, a lesson on the art of henna with Bedouin women in Jordan and a meal at a restaurant providing culinary training to underprivileged single mothers in Peru.

FROM CLASSIC TO LEGENDARY

In 2022, Collette is offering 40 new tours as guests return to travel. Visiting trendy destinations such as Portugal, Ireland, Italy and Iceland, the new tours suit different travel styles, whether you want to explore with a small group (like going off the beaten path from Italy’s Amalfi Coast to Puglia); take part in classic guided travel (like a journey across Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria, including the legendary Oberammergau Passion Play); or focus on one destination (like a five-day immersion in Savannah’s southern lifestyle).

FLOWER POWER

Having recently launched its 2022 European season, AmaWaterways is ready for a blossoming spring as travellers are looking to experience exclusive events. This year, one can’t-miss event is the Floriade Expo, a once-in-a-decade horticultural happening held in The Netherlands. From April to October, guests cruising to or from Amsterdam will get to visit Floriade as a complimentary excursion to their itinerary, including the new Best of Holland & Belgium and Rhine Castles & Swiss Alps itineraries. Themed “Growing Green Cities,” Floriade will look at ways to foster greener communities, with stunning gardens, innovative sustainable gardening exhibits, live entertainment and food stalls.
